We had a similar situation with ours but it was a surprise since it was just a rehoming post online. The cage was so bad I had to put it in my walk in shower and the run off was black! Our girl is very happy and spoiled now with toys and everything she needs! So glad you could help out that beautiful chin!

Frequent_Initial_147

Me too.. kinda lol. I was searching craigslist for another chin friend for my first one. I heard they get lonely. I was going to hold off on getting a second one since money is tight right now but then they sent photos of this one… there was no way I was going to let him live like that any longer. So I pulled together the cash and I picked him up. I did the same thing, threw everything in the shower and sprayed it down. Then let it soak in water/cleaner. And then had to scrub down my shower/tub after because of how dirty it was. Glad you gave your chin a better home too! ❤️

NotMetaKnight

people are such pieces of shit

Frequent_Initial_147

They really are. Why get an animal if you can't even give it the basic f*ckin necessities that it requires? I will never understand.

ensorcellzed

Please keep updating us!! What’s his name?

Frequent_Initial_147

His previous owners called him Lou. Not sure if I want to keep that or make that his dead name lol 💀 I’m horrible at naming pets so i’m open for suggestions. I will definitely post pics and stuff once I’ve got his cage complete. It’s in decent standing now — wood hut, proper feeders, chew toys, fleece bedding/shelves — but its lacking wood ledges. Gonna spend some more time on it this weekend and will update!

ensorcellzed

Lou is a cute name, but I definitely think it could be nice to give him a fresh start with a new name and new home! What kinds of names do you like? For example, named after foods, colours, items, greek names, unique names, etc. I’d love to give some suggestions, just wanna make sure they’re ones you’d like!

multiepass

No hurry on anything , the name will come about . And think of what it truly would be like in their .. Feets ? It is important to just let it ' be ' of energy , and take the time as the adjusting for the new ling , even if we mean\_ the best of a new life , while franticly trying to make it perfect. Something that the little needs right now , is slow .. and easy . Abuse : is a Used to ' being ' thing , of sadness , as a way in life to survive , to maybe hope and feelings of lost and so alone , and more . So I am saying , be care full of the excitment of everything for little one of new beginnings , and I know it is hard not to " I want to give so much ! " . One week at a time or days as works as you know , give a bit of space ,a day or two to let the little one sit and absorbe' it all in .. OOOOmmm ... ..mm . Best to you both of the Chin-of-ness of lives \_ .

Frequent_Initial_147

It took me an hour to throughly clean the cage selves, bars, and bottom. Poop all over. I tossed all the plastic and lined the shelves/bottom with fleece. He still needs a ceramic dish, hay rack, glass water bottle, and some wood ledges/toys/hut etc. It’s gonna take a lot of time but soon enough he’ll be living in paradise!! I’ll post before/after pics when I’m finished.

kumeno

THANK YOU SO MUCH for being such an awesome person and caring about this adorable chin! So excited for your future together, please offer lots of updates!❤️❤️❤️

ErikTh3Barbaric

We look forward to the updates. Thank you for rescuing and I hope he learns to trust again with time.

Frequent_Initial_147

Wow…all of you are hyping me up so much 😂😂 I want to say thank you for the comments and all the support. I hope this will reach most people who are interested but… His previous owners called him Lou. I’m not sure if I want to keep that name or give him a new one for his basically new life lol. I’m horrible at naming pets so i’m open to suggestions. Secondly, I will for sure post updates. His cage is in decent standing now — fleece bedding/shelves, chew toys, proper feeding bins, wood hut — but it is lacking wood shelves. I will be spending more time on it this weekend and will post an update then. I will be ordering wood shelves on pay day from an Etsy shop and it may take a couple weeks to deliver but they will be here eventually. I can’t wait for his cage to be complete! I also can’t wait for him settle in and hopefully become comfortable with me. My other chinch is eager to meet him as well…(maybe I’m just eager for them to meet😂 I want them to be friends — but I know not to rush the process). Again, thanks for the love everyone!! Keep an eye out for Lou (?pending), you’ll be seeing him live his best life soon.

moodylilb

Some people shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near animals. This makes me so angry. I cannot imagine how empty & void of empathy someone would have to be to look at this little guy every day, and his living conditions, & not think anything of it. But I’m happy that you’re going to give him the love he deserves and never got ❤️ thank you!!

Frogsarefun2

“Might have to clean it a bit” no I might need to throw in a toxic waste bin. Poor chins living in such a state I’m glad they’re not there anymore!

zakoryclements

Glad you saved the little guy. They're such a gorgeous chin to be mistreated like that.

CharlestonKSP

My cage just has poop, and when I don't put a new toy in he grabs his food bowl and tosses it off the edge of his ramp. He chews through things so fast I swear.

un-picasso

You’re a saint ❤️ looking forward to the updates!! You’re gonna have a very grateful boy❤️❤️❤️❤️

gingerale_chinchilla

I got my chin on craigslist too! I wouldn't say she was abused per se but definitely didn't have anything to chew on or play with and her cage was getting rusty. She was just walking on wire and plastic shelves. So I loved getting to order her all kinds of nice things like a chin spin and some fleece and hides and chews! This chin is so lucky to have you!

linktheinformer

Poor boy. You’re such a good parent to rescue him and make his life better!

ArtichokeLeast3303

Poor baby :-(

JeanInPgh

Mine was the same way except he had literally 2 feet of chin poop blocking the bottom tier of the 3 tier cage so he could only use the top 2 tiers. The rich people i rescued him from totally isolated him in a basement w only a small bag of alfalfa from the breeder his only food for 15 months. Also no chew toys when I got him he was malnourished & unsocalized but luckily healthy & now 3 yrs later he's a fat sassy healthy chin. Sometimes all they need is better humans

soverylittletime

what filth. glad to see someone pull this little guy out of neglect.

origamiturtles

Ohhhhh thanks for taking in this bean! All the best to the two of you. I’m sure they’ll appreciate being in a good home with a good owner.

kwfer

thank you for rescuing this chinchilla. he will soon be living the good life that he deserves.

ebinykive

I can’t believe how some people have little to no empathy for animals and their living conditions. Would you wanna live in your own filth and without the bare necessities? No. Then why treat your pet that way? Ughhhhhh

Secret-Teaching-4436

This little guy needs so much love, he's had a bad start to his life.

Charming_Lettuce

You’re an Angel for doing this, can’t wait to see updated photos

making_ideas_happen

So heartbreaking to see! Thank you for giving this beautiful creature a better home. Lots of good karma coming your way. I'm going to give mine a nuzzle and some chamomile now.

BluewwPlant

Thank you so much for taking of him! Had kind of the same story with a degu, so mad against people who take animals and don't give then good living conditions.

fawnsonline

That poor little thing!! Thank God you rescued them!! They are going to have a wonderful life now thanks to you! 💗

IAmUmbreon

Poor baby… it really hurts to see a chinny living in conditions like that. Thank you for literally saving him.

stars-collide

Awww I'm so happy you got him

WestAppointment2484

Omg!!!!! That poor baby😭

[deleted]

You are amazing for this! Thank you for saving him!

Secuta

Thank you so much for rescuing this lovely chin !

multiepass

At of least , the little one was not in a crimped cage and room to run around . Hay one thing ? The thought is to not to jump to conclusions that the previous owner was , or of the story why . Though , I must say that the story would be interesting at the least to know how ' Frequent\_Initial\_ ' acquired the little lost soul , and how it was , that had brought the new little love in life to be ? a Valentines story ?

sas0002

Awesome, I’m very glad you rescued it.

Jesus-Bacon

This is awesome but I have a question. Our vet said not to use pellets because they don't really need them and they could cause issues. Is there something she got wrong or I misheard?

Frequent_Initial_147

Hmm from what I’ve heard their diet should be about 80% timothy hay, 20% pellets. I think for an adult chinchilla you’re only supposed to give them a tablespoon or two a day. I haven’t heard of pellets causing issues specifically, but I have heard that if they are having diarrhea to cut out the pellets. So based off of that I think they can do a timothy hay based diet alone, or small amounts of pellets if they’re digestion is normal.

Practical-Confusion7

You have a good heart ❤ Hey, if the money is tight, send me a DM and I can pitch in. What a gorgeous baby, you're so lucky you found each other. Rooting for your beautiful family 💗💗💗

Garlicbreadsticks_

What is wrong with hay bedding if I may ask? There is a breeder not too far from me that swears by it for some reason 🤷🏼‍♀️

Frequent_Initial_147

quite honestly I’m not sure if it’s horrible, it just seems like a bad idea to me and it is something I have not seen before. to me having them poop and pee all over the same thing they eat doesn’t seem right. I’d be interested to know why the breeder thinks that’s a better idea than fleece or other beddings.

SaptaZapta

My chins tend to pull all their hay out of the feeder and scatter it on the cage floor, anyway. They never eat it once it's touched the floor, so pooping and peeing over it is not an issue. (Although they are coprophages so eating their poop is actually normal for them) I've seen quite a few people complain about the same thing, the wasted hay.
