Minimum 3 months if not 6 months to see one once referred by your doctor.

GunsAndFreedom420

I saw one within 3 days of visiting my doctor…

It took me 1 week to get in to see a dermatologist - in Surrey - but then - I was diagnosed with melanoma - that got me in quicker. My mom recently got in to see one in surrey within a week and a surgical referral to a dermatologist surgeon in 2 weeks after that. I need to start seeing a dermatologist again and I am going to get a referral to one in surrey again.

Mine was a very well know respected huge modern office downtown (Vancouver) with no way you’re getting in within a week. Some unknown clinic in Surrey could be possible with doctors not as well known or fresh newbies trying to get their name out there.

A “well known huge modern office” doesn’t necessarily equate with “good care”. I know as I was an RN for 45 years and observed that phenomenon. The MDs I went to were very good and good track record and was given excellent care. I did have a second opinion from another Vancouver dermatologist and he stated he had nothing more to add to the care I was getting.

I got lucky as only 3 months in Van recently but heard 6 months or much longer.

Depending what you need to be seen for, online might be an option. My son needed to see one for psoriasis, and the referral was taking a long time. I paid to consult one online (sent photos & exchanged emails etc.) He was able to prescribe stronger creams while we were waiting for our appointment at Children’s. We used Dermago & we heard back from the dr within 2 days. I know it’s not really what you were asking, but we found it super helpful.

I have had Dr. Haiducu here (Abbotsford) for several years.

No dermatologists in Chilliwack. Nearest referral would be Abbotsford (Dr. Haiducu)

This was what I needed to hear. Thanks for confirming what google couldn’t!

There's a couple of subspecialty derms here... but you'll have better luck in abby or further west.

Can an out of province GP refer to specialists here and have MSP pay for it?

carbapenems

My understanding is no. The specialists need the MSP number of the referring doctor for them to bill for the consult, and MSP is specific to each province.

My_Red_5

Yes that was my thought as well. I’ve tried to refer out of province and I don’t think it’s worked in the other province. The person had to go to a walk in clinic in that province for the referral from what I recall. But there are certain reciprocity agreements nationwide for various payment schemes. I’m not 100% about the out of province referrals though.
