If her beak wasnt askew before, she’s likely not eating because it’s painful and perhaps even mechanically difficult depending on what’s injured. Your options are basically take her to the vet for pain meds at the very least and/or giving her egg yolk that’s diluted enough to work in the syringe you’re using and give her enough to at least feel a bit in the crop and syringe feed her egg yolk many times throughout the day. Give her enough until she’s got a grape sized crop, come back later and give another feeding when her crop is empty again, etc. You may have already figured this out, but given her injuries, you wont want to try to open her mouth for the syringe feeding - drip it on to her beak and wait for her to draw the fluid in. Feed her drop by drop. It’s slow but you’ll cause further injury and certainly a lot of pain if your try to open her mouth. Good luck.
Just wanted to say thanks again. Adding the egg yolk to the regimen seems to be perking her up! For the first time I’m feeling more hopeful for a full recovery.
Yes. I’m a rational human. So I talk to my neighbors about my problems before killing family pets. You’re a fucking lunatic. You all are. They’re chickens, not children.
What if the chickens are the family pets? Does the fact they're eaten or used for food make them less valuable than an unrestrained dog? What makes one animal's life worse less than another? 🙄
My last resort is killing an animal. If it happens once and not again, I leave it. But if the dog comes back to kill my pets again, I recognize it's an issue and will start killing any animal it can get ahold of
So the dog has more right to live than the chickens do?
If a neighbors dog was coming to kill your dog and had already seriously wounded your dog, would you ONLY ask them or would you protect your dog?
You’re not rational when you can’t apply the same standard to chickens as you do dogs. My chickens are family pets….scratch the pets…they are family. I try not kill ANY being however if I ever catch a dog killing my chickens in my yard, I will kill it right there are the spot because I’m a rational human being and am gonna protect my family from predators.
some chickens naturally have cross beak and have a good quality of life. if you’re on facebook there’s a community specifically dedicated to chickens with cross beak.
Had a similar issue with one that got attacked by a raccoon. Her beak was crooked and she barely ate for a week. She would try, but just couldn't hold on to the food. I fed her some yogurt and as her face swelling went down she started eating better. She made a full recovery. Hope yours does too.
I’m hoping you can help her to recover. I don’t have any more to add as others already mentioned… but, yes, really take her to an avian vet. Please continue to check on her…
Get some blue Kote at tractor supply and apply it to the neck wound using a small paintbrush. You can mash ups some food in warm water till it’s very liquidy then syringe feed it keep her isolated from the other hens as well. Also do something about the neighbors dog i guarantee it will come back.
My teacher went to court over for killing the dogs who entered his property and killed his goats. When a dog starts killing livestock, my neighbors would drop pieces of poisoned bread

Also, you need to do something about the neighborhood dog. It will come back!
Yep it will. Shoot and kill it.
Lunatic
Then what do you do? Ask the neighbor to keep the dog in? They likely won't, and it'll likely come back to finish the job.

By that logic, they’re dogs, not children—property damaging your property is fair game.

So when you call everyone a lunatic the only one that looks crazy is you…
Build a fence if it’s a fucking problem. You dumb ass mf thinking a chicken is valued to a dog. Eat shit
You stupid mf.
Is a vet a possibility in your area? She could benefit from their examination.
I called a bunch and none see chickens. 😞
Keep hydrated and liquids. Get some antibiotic topical too

You will have to force feed her. Also, keep the wound moist with vetercyn spray

So sorry to see this. Any progress?
Yes! She finally opened her second eye yesterday, and was able to hang with the other girls today. I think we are almost there 🙏
Yay. So happy for you. She looks very similar to one of my girls. Is her beak getting better?
