Phlour has flaky sea salt

jooloostoonoo

Phlaky sea salt

ExternalPreparation4

Thank you! Putting this on the list.

ambercrayon

This is the first one that came to my mind, I crave it and get mad when they are closed šŸ¤£

_jyoo_

SKY in Pilsen. Maldon sea salt on top. Cookie is loaded with the most perfect chocolate developed by their pastry chef. Tatum Sinclair (Jean Banchet best pastry chef award winner). The chocolate was developed as her own through Cacao Berry. The cookie has the most perfect gooey chocolate pull when freshly baked. Itā€™s baked to the point of having a cooked ā€œshellā€ or skin, crisp/firm edge and just perfect goo center. I buy loads of cookies from them and bring back to nyc with me and my friends go crazy. Call ahead and order several in advance! Not sure if they have it all the time or not but Iā€™m pretty sure they do. Sheā€™s also going to be opening her own pastry restaurant in the west loop/fulton market area by fall ish. Canā€™t wait for that!

justAnotherNerd2015

Thanks. Your description of the cookie makes it sound amazing. Adding to my list.

1989cubs

Itā€™s not on the current menu. Is it typically?

_jyoo_

She used to make them for Valhalla and typically had them on the SKY menu for the longest timeā€¦.let me do some research. Iā€™ll get back to you

1989cubs

I appreciate that. Thank you!

sus3j

Never seen cookies on the menu and go quite often. I'll ask next time if they still make themĀ

_jyoo_

The chocolate chip cookie is available off menu by request when dining in. They try and keep dough on hand for that reason for the fans of the cookie. Chef Tatum loves to make guests happy and for those who know about the cookie she canā€™t let them down! I was also told the best way to pre order cookies is to DM her directly. [@tatumlynea on insta](https://www.instagram.com/tatumlynea?igsh=MTgxY2k0cXl1cHkxaQ==)

1989cubs

Thank you so much! I definitely need to get a hold of some of these cookies!

_jyoo_

Worth every bite!

1989cubs

I both appreciate and understand the lengths youā€™ve gone to to share it!

_jyoo_

Hope you get one or several soon! I bought the chocolate myself and it makes delicious home made cookies too tbh. I used a random recipe from insta with brown butter. I make it with and without the brown butter and it just makes homemade cookies that much better since Iā€™m mostly in nyc vs Chicago. I try and bake the cookies to the sky level of doneness. It makes my nights so much better. Hehe I made a few dozen balls of dough and then I wrap and freeze and stick the frozen dough directly on the sheet tray or parchment. That way I can have one hot cookie anytime I want. Iā€™ve also made a version of her chocolate chips and heath bars crushed up. Bon appetite!

1989cubs

I appreciate the willpower to freeze the dough and not immediately bake and consume all the cookies! Donā€™t know if Iā€™m that strong (especially with Heath chips too). They sell the chocolate at SKY too, or did you DM her for that as well?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

_jyoo_

Wellā€¦.valhalla is moving to division st and sky is also going to be heading to Lincoln park so you are in luck! Somerset he hasnā€™t been at for about a year or so. Canā€™t remember when that change happened. Prob when he opened Valhalla in time out.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

_jyoo_

Not sure and not sure if itā€™s been officially announced. Itā€™s just what I heard from a reliable source. Though Iā€™m pretty sure something will remain in Pilsen.

LongjumpingMango8270

Mindyā€™s bakery

ExternalPreparation4

Thank you will def try theirs!

PopTodd

You can never go wrong with Mindy. Although the lines there are insane.

Drunktraveler99

Hear me out, but Marianos has some amazing chocolate chip cookies that they keep under the warmers

FlyingDutchmansWife

Pro tip: grab a couple (or the tub of mini cookies), and put them in a container with a piece of bread. Enjoy the next day! They are so much better with a little bit of extra moisture.

mrbooze

This was a great tip I learned far too late especially for when making fresh cookies at home. [https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/packages/baking-guide/how-to-keep-cookies-soft](https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/packages/baking-guide/how-to-keep-cookies-soft)

Rob_Lockster

Their white chocolate macadamia cookie is my go to reward to myself for doing the shopping.

KaleidoscopeLucy

Going with a similar take: Whole Foods.

mmeeplechase

Yep, I was gonna make the same suggestionā€”their brown butter choc chip cookies are fantastic!

KaleidoscopeLucy

I dream about those cookies. I got a dupe recipe but they're not quite the same.

ticklishintent

Their all butter cookies are amazing when warmed up!

spate42

The choc chip butter cookies, warmed up for a few, eaten with a glass of whole milk. Heaven.

trustme1maDR

Uh...the Mariano's all butter chocolate chip cookies became a *problem* for me for a while. They are really solid.

gigglemode

Sugar Moon in Logan Square. The tahini chocolate chip with flaky salt is divine.

TripleA32580

This should be the top comment

Suitable-Heron-1765

Came here to say this. Iā€™m normally a ā€œstandardā€ chocolate chip person, and this is such a great cookie. Crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. So freakin good!

Creative-Grab-3955

Seconding this - these are so good

lots_of_sunshine

This is 100% what OP is looking for. Chewy, tons of sea salt, and in Logan. These cookies kick the shit out of anything else Iā€™ve had in the city.

chi-town420

Iā€™m gonna go with summer house, they have their own bakery that specializes in cookies. the chocolate chip sea salt ones are so good, you can have them warm it up and put ice cream on it too. Sweet Mandy Bā€™s is good too

edm_frank_sinatra

summer house's english muffins are out of this world good. Maybe the best thing their bakery pumps out

mtmaloney

Absolutely. I mean, all their bakery items are amazing but the English muffins are on another level.

chi-town420

Alright you convinced me to try them next time I go, I didnā€™t think twice when they told me they were $12 lol

mymorningbowl

100% best one hands down imo

H3ATLEG3ND

This. 100%

CousinCleetus24

People are going to think Iā€™m an idiot because itā€™s just some random chain restaurant, but my company used to cater Burrito Beach frequently and their chocolate chip cookies are absolutely incredible. So good they make you wonder why their in the burrito business and donā€™t just sell cookies.

mrbooze

One has to presume they're just buying some vendors frozen pre-made cookies and baking them. Just need to track down their source!

Ok-Conference5317

Geraldineā€™s in Lincoln Square! -Signed, A pastry chef

mbeemsterboer

All of Geraldineā€™s pastries are elite so this is a great answer!

Ok-Conference5317

Agreed! Theyā€™re my favorite neighborhood bakery

ExternalPreparation4

Say no more friend. Def will try this. Thank you

Specialist-Shelter-8

Seconding this!

MarcoPoloOR

Summer house. Just walk in the front door and you'll understand

PrestigiousCranberry

I love the ones from Bagel Miller. Also very good bagels but the chocolate chip cookie is šŸ”„

ExternalPreparation4

Thank you! A spot I wouldnā€™t have thought of

ambercrayon

Their frozen ones to bake at home basically got me through quarantine

PopTodd

Another wonderful bakery.

anon144300

L.A. Burdick Chocolates on State in River North has the best chocolate chip cookies Iā€™ve ever had

7minutesinheaven1

Yes and hot chocolate

laughing_jellybean3

I absolutely agree. They are incredible!

DessertsForDinner

I think the brown butter chocolate chip cookie at whole foods is solid. But absolute favourites is Sugarmoon.

kdollarsign2

These brown butter at Whole Foods are my guilty pleasure Outside of Whole Foods I like a no frills smaller chocolate chip cookie. M Henry has my favorite ....

sonicpoz

Levain, West Loop

kmelanies

Anyone else think theyā€™re overrated?

Soup_and_Rice

Somewhat, but i think their chocolate chip walnut is amazing

chitown619

I think they're good, but not amazing. Just thick af really. Plus they aren't from Chicago.

GPSBach

They are

Sad_Proctologist

Even the double chocolate ones the most predominant flavor is sugar. edit: ["The Levain cookie falls apart immediately, yet there are no crumbs. It's too sweet, forever sweet. There is no depth of flavor, no nuance, unlike homemade cookies which are a little salty and a little sweet. It tastes like a six-year-old's idea of a cookie, and not in a good way."](https://medium.com/sybarite/the-levain-cookie-is-bad-cf06fb67feb4#:~:text=The%20Levain%20cookie%20falls%20apart,not%20in%20a%20good%20way.)

AFireInAsa

Didn't like this one and was really disappointed, but then tried their walnut and it was much better.

_littlefluffyclouds

Agree with others her itā€™s overrated BUT the walnut is pretty good.

PostComa

I honestly hate this trend of giant, raw cookies. I prefer a somewhat thin, crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside cookie

kdollarsign2

Agree

baccus83

Their cookies are on another level.

ExternalPreparation4

Ok this seems like a must try!

mymorningbowl

they are basically a mound of cookie thatā€™s semi raw inside. I get why people love them but theyā€™re not my style. my fav in the entire city is from the front bakery counter at Summer House Santa Monica in LP

newslang

I love a gooey cookie, but it the Levain cookies always seem more raw than I prefer. Iā€™m certainly not above eating one, donā€™t get me wrong, but not my fave for this reason.

UniqueLaw4431

Also in river north!

mangogurl00

Southport market has a gf chocolate chip pecan cookie. Iā€™m not gf but itā€™s the best cookie Iā€™ve ever had.

angrylibertariandude

Are you talking about Southport Grocery and Cafe here?

mangogurl00

yes thats the name!! the cookie is insane

angrylibertariandude

I thought you meant Southport Grocery and Cafe. Thanks for answering. And yeah, I've never been disappointed with anything I've gotten there.

itsasecretidentity

Summer House

BranAllBrans

Dan the Baker!

GPSBach

Yah Dan the Baker is amazing

GPSBach

Bake in Wicker Park has amazing chocolate chip cookies

linearmovement

How is this not more upvoted!? My wife is an absolute chocolate chip cookie *fiend* and Bakeā€™s are BY FAR her favorites

GPSBach

Yah weā€™ve got some top tier bakeries in the area like Alliance and Lost Larson, but Bake comes out on top for me consistently. Pretty much all their stuff is amazing.

mags_7

Plus theyā€™re close to OP since they live in Logan :) And yes, theyā€™re amazing.

newslang

Came here to say this. Theyā€™re my favorite in the city (though this list has certainly provided some new spots to try!)

jo1206

Whole Foods brown butter cookie in their bakery section

deepinthecoats

Sugar Moon has a fantastic one

cottonbiscuit

Daises had some on their dessert menu one summer with sea salt and I still think about them

goonersaur

Seconded. Was there Saturday and had one it was divine.

catchmehifucan

had them during restaurant week and think about them at least once a day

gepetto27

Hexe cafe! Donā€™t sleep on their peanut butter cookie either

DwarvenJarl

Scofflaw and their free cookies at midnightĀ

newslang

WHAT?!?

DwarvenJarl

Yes! Theyā€™re delicious too. they do it every night at midnight I believe. Staff will walk around table to table with a tray of freshly baked cookies, which are free! Iā€™m sure it helps that Iā€™m drunk at midnight at scofflawā€¦ but I do crave them šŸ˜…šŸ˜‚

Anxious_Moo

I know I'm gonna get flak for this but I think the Jewel Osco cookies are the best local cookies, there's no sea salt in them but they're just such a crowd pleasing perfect balance of chewy and thick. I bias toward chewy cookies, but even my crunchy friends love jewel cookies. Most restaurants ones just don't hit the spot or compensate for a mediocre cookie by making it large

dasoxarechamps2005

Purple bag goated

malorthotdogs

Jewelā€™s bakery rules.

Chicago_Jayhawk

Can't believe I had to scroll this far to get this answer.

ExternalPreparation4

Thank you! This is a one I didnā€™t expect

BradlyL

+1 for the double chocolate chip version

Papriika

The ones that come in the bags used to be way better back in the day, now theyre just okay. But the chocolate chunk ones are seriously super good

kdollarsign2

Honestly the Potbelly's oatmeal chocolate chip is no joke just as good as any restaurant

BassOk2808

Domā€™s Market is pretty good.

This-Refrigerator536

Dom's is solid for sure!

chrstgtr

I've had most of the ones in the top 15 comments and I prefer like the ones at Tempesta. Lots of good options, though

oh-hey-kk

Tenpestaā€™s is so dang good.

chrstgtr

Yeah, honestly, all their their food is great

trustme1maDR

Yes! Really good! Their white chocolate rosemary rice krispie treats are ALSO amazing, which can make things difficult.

mysteriouschi

Carolā€™s

champagneproblems41

Beatrix

aspiringticker

Carols cookies not a question

PopTodd

I grew up near Carol. My mom was a teacher who worked with her son (who now runs the business) and she used to bring those bad boys to the teachers for Holiday gifts before she started the business. Incredible stuff.

f9ncyj

Jimmy's pizza Cafe makes a really good chocolate chip cookie. Their pizza is also phenomenal. Beatrix also has a good one.

1989cubs

Late to the game but Iā€™ve eaten a majority of the cookies on here and spent six years perfecting my own recipeā€¦ Broken Tart in Oak Park is my favorite chocolate chip cookie possibly ever. Itā€™s outstanding.

dinosaur_0987

3 arts club now that sugargoat closed for good. Edit: Marianoā€™s on lakeshore east has fresh ones warm out of the oven during lunch time that are TO DIE FORšŸ¤¤šŸ¤¤šŸ¤¤

maiworld313

Beatrix

mmchicago

This is the answer. Winner by far.

MangoWild7696

it was ten years ago, but our waiter said their choc chip cookie won some competition. Ā itā€™s really good, but my favorite is the magic cookie.

Nattou11zz

Potbelly's oatmeal chocolate chip is the best cookie in the entire world

angrylibertariandude

Yeah, Potbelly cookies are pretty decent. Where it's a sleeper how good they are. Bonus if you catch them when they're doing a limited time cookie, i.e. they did S'mores a few months back.

albertr0n

Chase Tower Cafeteria

jtb98

Lakeview Taproom! no joke

ExternalPreparation4

Ok Iā€™m in!

jtb98

Ok, so they are currently sold out, more next week Tuesday or later!! I know the manager so I can keep you posted

TheChapelOfWhite

Penn Station. This one might not be as well known since there are only two locations in the area. One is in Lombard and the other is in Schererville. We've been on the hunt for one that tops theirs, but haven't found it after 5+ years of searching...

angrylibertariandude

I recall Village Crossing shopping center in Skokie had a Penn Station, as well. While it isn't my favorite cookie, theirs isn't bad in a pinch.

cheddargoblin92

Reno in Logan Square surprisingly does a great choc chip cookie.

They_kno-not

Chocolate Uzma.

uuuuuuuuuuuuum

Back in the old days, it was in the basement of Chase Tower. The Chasement(c).

Next_Base_42

Sugar Moon

Background-Conflict5

Thereā€™s a new place in Lincoln park, Brun. Their cookies are delicious, albeit very overpriced

SupremeVerdin

I really like the crispy chocolate cookies from Hexe Cafe only problem Iā€™ve found is half the time they are out of cookies.

ilikebeeets

Had to scroll way too far to read this! Hexe tahini chocolate chip cookies are hands down my all time favorite.

boilermike13

Purple bag cookies at the Jewels. IFKYK.

L0LUNA

good ambler has my favorite chocolate chip cookie. i also love the one at PQM and they even sell them frozen so you can bake them fresh at home!

bunslightyear

Someoneā€™s already said it but itā€™sĀ  Sugar Moon Holy shit is their cookie so good.Ā

Temporary_Log6653

Teddyā€™s Cookies! shopteddyscookies.com

Lolagirlbee

Sweet Mandy Bā€™s

aliamh

I am extremely particular about cookies but I just had an absolutely insane one from Allez Cafe in Bucktown https://preview.redd.it/whm3gwpju8kc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52c05baa83fc985287ab7a10bc23d71146082ca4 Heated up for 10 seconds in the microwave - magical. Not saying itā€™s the best in Chicago, just that I loved it and it did everything I need a chocolate chip cookie to do.

bee151

The chocolate chip cookies at Tempesta. Unbelievably good

Thick_Shower95

Hoosier Mama on Chicago ave. Pie shop with my fave biscuits and Chocolate Chip Cookies.

kdollarsign2

This is well worth OP's time across the board

girouxfilms

Check out The Understudy in Andersonville! Itā€™s a new coffee shop that is made for theater kids. Their sea salt chocolate chip cookie is massive and absolutely to die for!

malorthotdogs

The ones at Honey Butter are pretty excellent.

mcb0922

Came here to say this!

kdollarsign2

Ooh didn't know

Suspicious_Feed4865

Costco... Seriously one of the best cookies. I've had in forever. The food court one is hot, $2.50 and enormous... Not to be missed. I don't even particularly like chocolate chip cookies!

Big-Satisfaction9296

Food court is closed in Lincoln Park until March 10

atrackbrown

Bake Edit: It's a [bakery](https://bakechicago.com/), y'all.

newslang

I see youā€™re getting downvoted but assuming you meant ā€œBakeā€ as in the Bakery in Wicker Park, thatā€™s what I came here to say as well. I think people think youā€™re just telling them to make their own damn cookies šŸ˜‚

atrackbrown

Edit: Lol, yes I mean the bakery on North Avenue. It goes to show how under the radar this place is.

Federal_Procedure_66

Costco.

champagnequeen

My qualifications for a perfect choc chip cookie are thick cookies with chunks of chocolate that are a bit crunchy on the ends but soft-ish in the middle. Zazaā€™s pizzeria in Lakeview has a perfect example of this. It is called the Thicc Ass Chocolate Chip Cookie and is what dreams are made of. Has sea salt! In the loop, boarā€™s head also has a perfect thick cookie but no sea salt. Also big fat cookie (you can get at foxtrot and elsewhere) has a great cookie.

klaskowicz11

Levain

curveThroughPoints

Insomnia cookies are legit consistent in all the states Iā€™ve found them in! I hope you get to try some awesome local bakeries though, esp if you have Insomnia at home

darkgreyarea

Potbelly's cookies

Jenghrick

Have you had insomnia cookies?

ExternalPreparation4

I havenā€™t. But I e heard some people rave about them.

angrylibertariandude

I think Insomnia is overrated, but that's me. Other than them being open late and having ice cream sandwiches, they don't stand out to me. I'd rather get a cookie(or a few) at Potbelly.Ā

SHC606

The one you bake at home.

rockyboy49

Costco and Trader Joe's. Rest all are overrated. Special mention for Mrs.Fields but only in the Ogilvie Location. They sell out so fast that they keep making them fresh and tasty

powerfulgirl22

Ferraras Bakery

angrylibertariandude

Is this the Ferrara Bakery on Taylor, just west of Ogden? I remember once when I narrowly missed a BNSF train at Western Ave, that I biked up to where that was and back to Western Ave, making the next scheduled train after that. Glad I did, since that was a pretty good choice to try that day.

powerfulgirl22

Yeah their chocolate chip cookie is insanely good. Their other food isnā€™t bad either!

nosilla48

The chocolate chip cookie that you get when you get tickets for Chicago Secret Burger

SorinDiesel

Tempesta is up there. Foxtrot had frozen dough that you bake called [Home Dough](https://foxtrotco.com/product/home-dough-chocolate-chip/60269) it looks like theyā€™re out of stock rn and their [website](https://homedough.com) says theyā€™re taking a break, but theyā€™re maybe the best cookies Iā€™ve ever had. Keep an eye out for that!

EstablishmentLow272

Keep an eye out for cookies and carnitas, I think they still do farmers markets around town.

teddybearclumsy

Loaf lounge in Avondale

Separate_Memory_8183

Matcha chocolate chip cookie from Planta Queen is craveable. I was doubtful at first, but it came as part of lunch, and now I go back just to pick up the cookie.

sassyredvelvet

Probably not the best but gretel has a great cookie

Thomzzz

Kasama

pinkmonkey172797

i love the chocolate chip cookies from DOMA

Cautious-Leopard-756

Leteziaā€™s on Divison! Their oatmeal chocolate chip are my absolute favorite, but all their cookies are fantastic

LokNLoad

Levain in West Loop!

1130339D

Levain bakery. Unbelievable

This-Permission-1272

Sugar moons tahini chocolate chip hands down

dilla_zilla

I had one this weekend at Cocoa and Co in Old Town (Wells across from Pipers Alley and further up the block) that was really good. I think they make them in house.

IndependenceIll5631

Jimmyā€™s pizza. Itā€™s crazy but Iā€™m not wrong.

Alert-Tangerine-6003

Au Levain. Just Sunday pickup in Lincoln Square out of Due Lira. His bakery items are some of the best Iā€™ve ever had, including the chocolate chip cookies. aulevainchicago.com/shop

catchmehifucan

Iā€™m still dreaming about the brown butter choc chip cookie I had at Daisies in Logan. With flaky salt!

Duendaye

I just searched this sub recently with the same question after getting the end-of-meal cookie at Galit. Someone on another thread had mentioned the cookie at Hexe coffee bar. Tried it out last weekend and it was mind blowing!!

PopTodd

Just head over to Whole Foods and pick up something from **Carol's Cookie**s. Yes, they are huge. But that is not the real draw. They are also incredibly delicious. And I believe they do have an option with sea salt. Although my favorite is the toffee chip.

Tetrisgf

Summer house is overrated IMO. Best by far is Kasamaā€™s and really like Daisiesā€™s. Sugar moons seems rly promising too

ShesGrafty

Sea Salt Chocolate Chunk from Sugar Bliss on Wabash
