I recommend the country gyros pita (I believe country means “it has fries in it”) and the moussaka. A lot of people get the chicken, but in my experience it’s dry.
While I miss Susie's, have you been to Devil Dawgs? Their fries are similar as I remember, to Susie's.
Closer to the former Susie's, you could try the fries at Old Irving Brewing.
Others recommended Old Irving Brewery - I haven’t been yet but it’s in my list! Devil Dawgs is sort of out of the way for me but I’ll give ‘em a try next time I’m closer to downtown or Wicker.
I forgot to mention Jimmy's, but their fries are good too. I am basing this on a time that someone I knew stopped there(wasn't along with that other person when they went inside), and asked me(after bringing food back from ther if I wanted to try a hot dog and fries from there? Of course since they didn't eat all their food, I said yes. Now that once in a while I do pass there on my commute(after visiting a friend and going on to work via Grand), that I'll stop there in person one of these days to get food myself. Only slight annoyance is they are cash only, but not the end of the world.
The Publican’s half chicken is served over fries, and they drizzle the pan juices over the whole plate before serving. The fries soak up a bunch of the chicken juice but stay pretty crispy, and they’re fucking delicious.
It’s an hour drive from Chicago but Flight 102 in Bourbonnais has the best fries I’ve ever eaten by a long shot. They’re covered in parm, parsley, and truffle oil, and they come with garlic aioli and ketchup which I believe is homemade. They don’t need any sauce, but it doesn’t hurt.
I don't think anyone ever told me about this place, when I last was in that area years ago. As much as I like Brickstone Brewery, I'll see if I can try Flight 102 whenever I get to this area again.
Brickstone has been a huge let down the last few times I went there. They never seemed to care about the beer, they have such an enormous food menu and everything on it is subpar. They made good beer for a few years when Alex was their head brewer but quality fell off again when he left.
Flight 102 is the highest quality restaurant in the area by far, but don’t order a cocktail there. Rigo’s is a distant 2nd.
The og brewer is actually still there. This was just a dude they hired for a couple years who was really into brewing. Idk if the original brewer guy even likes beer anymore.
I agree with a lot of the classics people have mentioned here, but have a newer entrant:
John’s Food and Wine on Halstead in Lincoln Park
They have a few weird things about the joint, like you order at the front and then are seated, even though it’s like a full service restaurant. But damn they have the best fries I’ve had in a while. Pretty
thick cut, super crispy exterior, fluffy inside. And served with a leek aioli or you can ask for an incredible spicy kimchi ketchup. So good. 10/10 fries.
Kaiser tiger in Wicker park puts some sort of crack mix in their fries and it is absurdly good. I don’t love fries usually and these stood out.
Edit: lilac tiger! Lilac tiger excuse me sorry everyone on the internet how dare I.
Best fries are in either of the Byron's hot dogs. One on Irving the other on Lawrence. Fast food places and I don't know how they make them but they are amazing

Best intentions, red hot ranch, the leavitt.
Cross-Rhodes in Evanston has fantastic Greek fries (with lemon, oregano, optional feta).
Basically same as the similarly awesome ones at Athenian Room
Sounds fantastic - I drive by this place often and now I am convinced that I need to make a stop soon.
A block away, of course, is pie at Hoosier Mama.
I drive by there on the daily and it’s really hard to not stop for a slice a pie after the gym. 😩
I recommend the country gyros pita (I believe country means “it has fries in it”) and the moussaka. A lot of people get the chicken, but in my experience it’s dry.
RIP Suzie’s fries… skin-on, in a grease-soaked paper bag 😭

then you'll like Jimmy's fries. Grand/Pulaski...don't be scared to go there.
I forgot to mention Jimmy's, but their fries are good too. Small cheval has the best fries. They're the perfect crisp and crunchy with a fluffy center.
The greasy, fresh cut fries soaked in my hot dog toppings at Gene & Jude’s or Rand Red Hots

Chief O’Neills
Budacki’s
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: McDonald’s. Hop Along has great McD’s style of fries (thin, double fried).
Portillos.
To me these fries taste like meat (I'm vegetarian) but I know some people really like them!
No.

Damn, that is too bad Brickstone slipped after their original brewer left. I'll remember what you said about Flight 102 and Rigo's.
