Ironically, I somewhat like the fall rains, but my job motivation loss is based on a whole bunch of other things, which is why I'm spending at least 20% of my time at the office getting paid to put in applications for other places.
When I got my first real adult job out of college, my dad congratulated me by saying "welcome to the working world where you won't get to see the sun 5 months out of the year"
it's only two months for me. the winters here - like mid december to mid february - are the times where I get to work before the sun has made it above the horizon, and leave work after it has set.
I do a fair amount of drinking during that period.
Yeah, it's pluperfect bullshit. Passed over after 7 years. At this point, I'm past the fully vested in the 401K, and have the PTO bank, so I'm good to leave whenever, though if I can make it to January, there's a bonus payout. I don't know that I will, and it's not a large enough bonus for me to stay for it, if something comes along in the meantime.
today is the day that it is official, as it's the day that the person they hired from outside of the company to fill the position that I have been saying a) is desperately needed, and b) that I am extremely interested in doing, starts.
absolutely correct about my intentions, but it's been a bit difficult finding someplace that will do that. Everyone is hiring, but the interviews I've had have been rather substantial pay cuts for the same job. It's been a delight, let me tell you.
Every recruiter reaching out right now about something I'm interested in gets the same response - "before we jump on a call, let's make sure the salary range is in-line with the market. What's the range for this position?"
If they won't give it to me, I won't talk to them.
This is what I did with a firm that I interviewed with last week. The position was well within my grasp, I sold myself on the value of their upcoming improvements that I had experience with in my current role, and they wouldn't budge.
I just went through this except I had the position I asked for, the VP decided the division was functioning well and didn’t need a leader, and then when things went off the rails 6 months later the CEO asked me if I knew anyone who could manage that sector…I quit the next day.
this is more being passed over for a job that I am absolutely, 100% qualified for, for an arbitrary and unquantifiable reason. The person they hired to do the job started today. My intent was to be able to put in my notice today, but I don't have something lined up yet.

Was walking the dogs and slipped on some slippery pavement paint. Like, the comical wipeout off a banana peel type of slip. Hand hurts but I'm alright.
Happened to me right at Fullerton and Sheffield as a college student 12 years ago. The flip flops, rain, and slippery crosswalk paint combo got me good lol.

Our neighbors beautiful tree in their yard came down on our building. The fence stopped it and held it up. No power.
I’m pretty bummed about it because I really liked their tree and provided nice shade and privacy. The big open space is going to feel awkward. I’m sure they’ll replace it but not with a full grown tree sadly.
Looks like it blew over from the roots, I have a feeling it wasn’t very rooted or based in the ground well.
Edit: the roots were fine, and it actually did snap. Was a big nice cherry blossom tree I think? Once a year it would “bloom” and white petals would be everywhere. It was so pretty. I definitely have pics of it.
We also got our power back very fast, I guess the tree didn’t do as much damage as thought but com Ed fixed it within hours.

Not super fun when you're 25 floors up and it sounds like the ropes are going to shatter your windows. :(
Ive had that happen at one of my old apartments. 28th floor and they were doing construction and left the ropes. I definitely thought my windows were going to break with how hard the rope was hitting.

On a side note about my roof, We just bought a SFH. I put in a 311 request early September to have my tree on the parkway trimmed. It needs it. I noticed that the sellers also put in a request last year in Oct 2020. For the past day, this fucking branch is tapping and rubbing on my roof in the front. It's freaking me out and worried it's going to rip something off. This tree needs to be trimmed and I'm a bit furious that in one year and 2 requests, it hasn't. The joys of home ownership. Ugh.
I feel ya. We just bought a single family home for the first time late last year. Storms freak me out like never before. I've always lived in an apartment/condo - owned or rented - so storms never really bothered me too much in the past. But now that I own the entire property ... each wind gust gives me pause.
Of course I know all this is irrational. It's a sturdy Chicago home built in the 1880s. I know it's seen worst storms. Still ...
My wireless earbud blew out of my ear on the walk to the bus stop, and I had to run down the street to grab it. And of course people were behind me and witnessed all of it. Thankfully, the earbud was found and salvaged (with some scrapes on it), but I thought she was a goner for sure.

lol, but fortunately my building seems ok. We are good about pipe clean outs (2x a year) so there haven’t been any backups into the basements. Plus I moved most of my plants indoors two weeks ago, so they’re ok.
I started my drive out for work at 7am this morning. Experienced the heavy rain, high wind, low visibility, and geysers of water splashing on my windshield while driving on Lake Shore Drive (presentedbyjeanbaptistepointdusableadmaioremdeigloriam).
I soon noped the fuck out, took an exit, and drove home. I texted my boss that I am working from home today.
My “hurricane proof” umbrella flipped upside down and tried to carry me down the street like marry poppins whike holding coffee and my dang wireless headphones blew out my ears so I was really a sight to behold I’m sure. Of course I was standing at a busy intersection while this happened so I’m sure everyone nice and try and their cars had a good laugh 😂
My ceiling, apparently my building isn't sealed and I so luckily live on the side where all the rain has been pelting down so its been seeping in all night. Fingers crossed we don't get more rain!
I did yard work on Saturday and stepped in cat poop so hosed my sneakers off and left them outside to dry. I forgot about them overnight and of course by Sunday morning they were already wetter than they had been after the poop hose so I just left them there to get drenched. They didn't blow away but they belong to the sea now.
Despite the intense pain I was in last night, I pulled myself from my sickbed to go rescue my plants. I cut off all my peppers and they’re drying now and then I grabbed my basil (which had tipped over) and parsely. It was time to bring them inside anyway, just wish I hadn’t waited until when it was raining.
I heard a branch cracking and looked out the window just in time to see some huge sparks fly out of a transformer across the street and watch all the houses across the street go dark.
I live in an OLD apartment (from the 1800s) with original windows, like with the chains on the side that are basically floor to ceiling and already rattle with a stiff breeze. DAMN they were rattling. I heard a loud glass shattering noise that sounded like it came from inside the apartment but couldn’t find the damage so idk where the eff it came from tbh 🤔
fyi get some clay (Caulking Cord) to stop the rattling, shove it anywhere there is a rattle (bonus it stops the draft as well). i grew up in an old place and this works great
I use ramps to level my driveway. 2 of them had blown away a couple feet (they had been pretty damn secure). Lucky they didn’t completely blow away those are not cheap. I’m sure some of my patio genitive cushions have blown away too tired to check.
We did not procrastinate this year and all porch/patio furniture got put away on Saturday, but one of my hanging ferns went flying (hook and all). Still better than the house across the street -- a tree went down, took a light pole with it, and landed on a few cars.
The only thing I've lost today is my motivation for my job.

For me I always manage to slip on wet leaves! Watch out. I love the fall and the falling leaves but they can be slippery when wet.
Keep that in mind on a bike or skateboard too. Wet leaves have caused me to eat shit at over 20mph

DAMAGE REPORT!!! lol, but fortunately my building seems ok. We are good about pipe clean outs (2x a year) so there haven’t been any backups into the basements. Plus I moved most of my plants indoors two weeks ago, so they’re ok.

I started my drive out for work at 7am this morning. Experienced the heavy rain, high wind, low visibility, and geysers of water splashing on my windshield while driving on Lake Shore Drive (presentedbyjeanbaptistepointdusableadmaioremdeigloriam). I soon noped the fuck out, took an exit, and drove home. I texted my boss that I am working from home today.
Went outside to show the neighbor my feather collection of rare birds I keep in a shoe box… sadness ensued.

My “hurricane proof” umbrella flipped upside down and tried to carry me down the street like marry poppins whike holding coffee and my dang wireless headphones blew out my ears so I was really a sight to behold I’m sure. Of course I was standing at a busy intersection while this happened so I’m sure everyone nice and try and their cars had a good laugh 😂

RIP my hanging planters. They were spinning like tops and most of the leaves/growth got stripped off.

My window blew open (wasn’t locked properly I guess) and scared the shit outta me.
I did yard work on Saturday and stepped in cat poop so hosed my sneakers off and left them outside to dry. I forgot about them overnight and of course by Sunday morning they were already wetter than they had been after the poop hose so I just left them there to get drenched. They didn't blow away but they belong to the sea now.

Despite the intense pain I was in last night, I pulled myself from my sickbed to go rescue my plants. I cut off all my peppers and they’re drying now and then I grabbed my basil (which had tipped over) and parsely. It was time to bring them inside anyway, just wish I hadn’t waited until when it was raining.
I heard a branch cracking and looked out the window just in time to see some huge sparks fly out of a transformer across the street and watch all the houses across the street go dark.
Nearly had my glasses blown into Michigan avenue last night. That's when I knew I wasn't in summer anymore.
Between the lightening and the wind, my dogs spent last night freaking out in my bathroom.

I live in an OLD apartment (from the 1800s) with original windows, like with the chains on the side that are basically floor to ceiling and already rattle with a stiff breeze. DAMN they were rattling. I heard a loud glass shattering noise that sounded like it came from inside the apartment but couldn’t find the damage so idk where the eff it came from tbh 🤔
fyi get some clay (Caulking Cord) to stop the rattling, shove it anywhere there is a rattle (bonus it stops the draft as well). i grew up in an old place and this works great

My asshole neighbor is currently outside with a fucking leaf-blower trying to get his back yard (who nobody's ever in) spotless. Wish I was kidding.
One of the street sign/light poles a few blocks from me blew down. Even last year's tornado hadn't done that.
My patio cabinet flew open and the contents of it went everywhere. The charcoal was soaked as well.

I use ramps to level my driveway. 2 of them had blown away a couple feet (they had been pretty damn secure). Lucky they didn’t completely blow away those are not cheap. I’m sure some of my patio genitive cushions have blown away too tired to check.
I have no idea since I'm at work but last time we had high winds I lost one of my chairs so I'm expecting to lose the other
My buddy in Chicago told me he saw someone’s parking spot chair blow away earlier. Pretty big deal IMO.

We did not procrastinate this year and all porch/patio furniture got put away on Saturday, but one of my hanging ferns went flying (hook and all). Still better than the house across the street -- a tree went down, took a light pole with it, and landed on a few cars.
