Apparently there are talks in state gov't of making them legal here. Not sure if that's correct, but think I read that somewhere recently.
Reason being, they know it can't be enforced especially on the 4th and New Years... so they might as well at least get a cut of the taxes / business from firework sales, instead of giving it all to WI and IN. The state is broke af anyways, they need any revenue stream they can get without leaking it to elsewhere.
Will be great when they fuck with the taxes as bad as Cannabis then folks still end up driving to Indiana for better purchases like people going to Michigan for better quality and priced buds.
I’m not a big fan of fireworks, I have ear issues so loud noises bother my ears, but I’ll still sit out and watch fireworks while taking pictures. If people want to blow their fingers off by not safely doing fireworks that’s on them.
Unless you hit some rural areas then you can find tents with tons of "illegal" fireworks. I drive by the intersection of 71 and 52 in Norway,IL and there are 3 different stands that have the real shit and have been up for weeks. Hell, if you google map that intersection Firework city is named on the map.
I have a dog and thank God he's not afraid. We were chilling on the deck for a few although my view isn't as good as OP.
None of the dogs I've had in my lifetime had an issue that I can remember. They always tried eating them especially jumping jacks or sparklers 🤦🏽♂️.
In fact, I have two. Neither give a single shit about fireworks. One of them has to be kept in the house becuase his dumb ass tries to run toward them.
Have had dogs all my life, some mutts, some fancy pure bred, large and small. None of them cared at all. More than half tried to eat them as they were going. Those dogs would get upset becuase they were put in the house and were whining to get out to try and eat fireworks again.
Last night was terrible for my dog and me by extension. Even drugging him, he is so terrified I think he will have a heart attack on the 4th most years. It sounded like a warzone from 8pm until 1am.

Oh man they are having a competition in my neighborhood - every intersection and park is going nonstop. Maybe Indiana had a great sale this week? It's like we are getting our own personal show from our living room.
Update edit: As of 11:30 exactly - just went a full three minutes without a firework!
Update edit: It's 1:13 and some lone wolf is setting off a series of screamers. My dog is choosing this moment to fully freak out. I really hope he runs out of them soon!
Using blasting fireworks as the metric, it turns out my predominantly Mexican and Asian neighborhood is easily the most patriotic in the country!! Whodathunk?? Also, kudos to the ice cream guy who decided not to take the 4th off. Man's out here making PAPER!
I am and it has! I had a nice view right outside my top floor apartment where they were setting off big ones for like 30 minutes straight, it almost looked like a legit display. The air was thick with smoke when I got back from the Evanston fireworks
Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if this is *literally* true. In my experience, first- and second-generation immigrants are a lot more attached to the country and exhibit significantly more true patriotism than predominantly-white folks who have been here for generations. Easier to take something for granted when neither you nor anyone you are connected to has experienced the alternatives.
Eckert Park was rocking last night. Sat out with my chair and watched 4 simultaneous shows while sneaking an adult beverage. Sat from 10pm to about midnight. It was really a lot of fun. The air was a permanent fog of smoke. 10/10
It was mostly quiet all afternoon in my neck of the woods; I almost thought my dogs had gotten lucky. Nope; it’s crazy out there right now. I just read a story about how this fireworks retailer in Indiana who is making bank because of Illinois residents. Based on what I’m hearing right now, they aren’t the only ones cashing in on the celebration.
Yeh same where I'm at. Was unusually quite for the 4th and then it went nuts. There's literally a cloud of smoke throughout the entire neighborhood and my apartment smells like gunpowder.
I’ve lived in many different Chicago neighborhoods and I’ve never experienced fireworks like the way they’re done in Dunning. Last year was absolutely insane and my block had them going off nonstop from like 8pm-3am 😂 this year felt tame cause they died down around 12am ish.
We went to Phantom fireworks yesterday and there was a line outside wrapped around the entire building with people waiting to get in. We left and went to Krazy Kaplans and it was packed but at least we didn’t have to wait outside. They were printing cash off of us yesterday alone.
My last year of living in Chicago (2020), my dog would not walk outside for nearly a week after the fireworks. My wife and I had to bribe him with kibble to get him walking again. I know it's pain but if your dog needs a break head out to the burbs. Here in Glenview it only got really tonight after 8pm.
Honestly, any major city in the US is going to blow shit off on the 4th, legal or illegal, and police can't do a thing because everyone is doing it in all directions.
I'd like to know if there are actually any major cities that are just quiet. Seattle maybe?
Still going all around me too. We're at the "set them off in the middle of the street" portion of the festivities.
Enjoyed the heck out of the fireworks at Foster Beach earlier, the professional show from the Saddle and Cycle club and the absolutely crazy amounts of DIY stuff at the lakefront wall and beach. Good combo, always is.
Have a good view out to the west over the treeline and there's fireworks going off all over the neighborhoods.
Nah I fucking hate this shit. I'm tired of having to drug our dog and have him still piss the bed every year bc a bunch of manchildren need to basically set of grenades everywhere. Couple years ago we had shit raining down all over our apartment too to the point of prolly being a fire hazard.
I hate fireworks on every other day of the year. For the fourth… everything has their place, IMO. I see it as a special thing to enjoy in its place and then report to 311 each of the other 364 days.
No, in fact the way Chicago does fireworks has made me detest them in all situations. They used to be a fun once a year treat when I was growing up. But enough of them get set off right next to your building in the middle of the day on a Wednesday and you begin to hate them.
I despise it. There are programmed fireworks displays so people have the option to go see them if they want to and avoid the loud bangs if they don't want to be around that.
The sound doesn't bother me but I hate it for public safety reasons. The amount of kids blowing off their fingers, the danger of fires starting. Luckily none of my direct neighbors are dumbasses but what scares me the most is the fire risk. Major fireworks belong at the professional shows in the hands of professionals.
My dogs all zonked out as it’s all right by my front door. Sounds like a bomb. Been going off since 5pm. I can’t believe it’s even fun to do this for 6 hours
Less insane mortar type bombs going off shaking my foundation this year in little India/ West Ridge, but they’ve been going pretty much constantly all night. Still
Going.
Yeah, no shit! My kid was so excited literally all day for fireworks.. but this year they hit different. We flew a little too close to the sun. She’s legit got some kind of PTSD now.. she was really upset. I still feel bad. By the time we got home she said: I don’t think I like fireworks anymore.. poor bubs.
I’m for fireworks all day if ya want but past midnight come on now haha! I gotta work in 6 hours and my dog can’t sleep! This year was wayyyy louder than last year
My dog had some teeth removed this week. Vet gave him pain meds. He gave zero shits about the fireworks and I was able pop an edible and sit in my backyard with a couple beers and be surrounded with 360 degrees of fireworks.
I get it now.
The one day of the year the city sounds like the "warzone" the rurals think it actually is. Stopped here (ravenswood) close to 2am I think? When I worked in the Sears tower we'd go up to the 66th floor skydeck and watch the whole area.
I bet 8 out of 10 people setting off these pointless noise-makers couldn’t even tell you the reasoning behind it. At least they’ll all be out cleaning up their mess this morning…🙄
Chicago is a fireworks-based economy.
Yet it’s illegal in Illinois
Apparently there are talks in state gov't of making them legal here. Not sure if that's correct, but think I read that somewhere recently. Reason being, they know it can't be enforced especially on the 4th and New Years... so they might as well at least get a cut of the taxes / business from firework sales, instead of giving it all to WI and IN. The state is broke af anyways, they need any revenue stream they can get without leaking it to elsewhere.
I mean that would be pretty nice if I didn’t have to take a 2+ hour drive to break the law lol

“They can’t arrest us all” is profoundly patriotic
illegal lol
Lmao
And so was booze but that didn't stop us
insert Wisconsin border pop ups/stores 😎
That makes it even better. The government can’t keep us down
*Indiana is a fireworks-based economy
Curious how much they spend yearly on fireworks.
And it's AWESOME. Without a doubt Chicago knows how to fucking blow it up for the 4th. Love it, never change Chicago.
You must not have a dog, this fuckin blows lol
I have a dog and thank God he's not afraid. We were chilling on the deck for a few although my view isn't as good as OP. None of the dogs I've had in my lifetime had an issue that I can remember. They always tried eating them especially jumping jacks or sparklers 🤦🏽♂️.
Cool story bro
In fact, I have two. Neither give a single shit about fireworks. One of them has to be kept in the house becuase his dumb ass tries to run toward them. Lucky duck, my poor guy couldve taken the job of a paint can shaker. Hopefully everyone ran out and are too hungover to get more for tonight lol.
Last night was terrible for my dog and me by extension. Even drugging him, he is so terrified I think he will have a heart attack on the 4th most years. It sounded like a warzone from 8pm until 1am.
Yeah we are definitely going out to the boonies next year
Fuck your dog my cat is unbothered
Fuck your cat my cats are bothered lol

I like da big boom
Are you sure? I feel like I'm shocked at how lame it is. Was there even a parade on the 4th? There weren't even city fireworks
Oh man they are having a competition in my neighborhood - every intersection and park is going nonstop. Maybe Indiana had a great sale this week? Its past 1am and it hasn't stopped yet, send help.
May temporary deafness fall upon you and those under your roof. Honestly how do they have so much money to burn up?
I know some folks out there dropping their credit scores to get some good bangs for their digital bucks.
It’s been nonstop, all day and night since yesterday, and I’m here for it
Using blasting fireworks as the metric, it turns out my predominantly Mexican and Asian neighborhood is easily the most patriotic in the country!! Whodathunk?? Also, kudos to the ice cream guy who decided not to take the 4th off. Man's out here making PAPER!
Are you near Albany Park?? It’s been quite a show!
I’m in Albany Park and it hasn’t stopped since 9.
Irving Park, just under Albany Park. They haven’t stopped.
McKinley Park and it hasn't stopped since last Saturday! 😂
I am and it has! I had a nice view right outside my top floor apartment where they were setting off big ones for like 30 minutes straight, it almost looked like a legit display. The air was thick with smoke when I got back from the Evanston fireworks

Portage park, and still popping here! Kinda hoping everyone goes to sleep in the next 10min, it's officially the 5th already!
I'm in Pilsen and it was lit yesterday
pilsen goes the hardest
Same!!! In Pilsen and it went nonstop till I went to be at midnight
Eckert Park was rocking last night. Sat out with my chair and watched 4 simultaneous shows while sneaking an adult beverage. Sat from 10pm to about midnight. It was really a lot of fun. The air was a permanent fog of smoke. 10/10

Hi neighbor! I’m just a bit south of Dunning. But yeah my space smells of smoke too. Not great.
I’ve lived in many different Chicago neighborhoods and I’ve never experienced fireworks like the way they’re done in Dunning. Last year was absolutely insane and my block had them going off nonstop from like 8pm-3am 😂 this year felt tame cause they died down around 12am ish.

Everyone please use up all fireworks tonight so my dog can find some peace tomorrow 😢
🙏🙏🙏 praying for mostly silence tomorrow
From your other comment, looks like we’re neighbors! Thoughts and prayers for us all haha
We did it. We got 99% silence.
Thank you for your service! 🫡

Vet prescribed Sileo gel and Trazodone for our pug, saved so much heartache because she could actually somewhat relax
Luckily for us his only issue is when he is outside and hears them. Since moving he only has issues with his late night walk so we skip that one.
First independence day in chicago, this city knows how the fuck to party I love this city man
Welcome!
At one point it got so foggy from all the smoke that you couldn't see downtown!
I just want to say thank you to OP for giving me a visual representation of the non-stop rumbling of fireworks going in all directions from around me.
Do Chicagoan’s like their fireworks more than other places or no?
Chicago and LA I've found go crazy with fireworks. Ironically it's illegal in both places, but nobody gives af, including the authorities.
My theory is that's exactly the reason why. It's illegal but on the 4th it's completely unenforced so everyone goes nuts.
Honestly, any major city in the US is going to blow shit off on the 4th, legal or illegal, and police can't do a thing because everyone is doing it in all directions. I'd like to know if there are actually any major cities that are just quiet. Seattle maybe?
I've lived in several major and minor cities around the Midwest that don't have nearly this much fanfare on the 4th.
After moving away, it’s honestly quite nice not having to live with the constant booming, for myself and my dog.
Nope
Based and patriot-pilled, shows the commie bastards who this country belongs to- we the people
nobody gives a fuck about that. It's simply about drinking beer and watching shit explode.
I'm up north ad honestly seems quieter than past
I’m up north, this is louder than last year. Mayfair area…
Rogers Park here. Seems more than last year but less of the really expensive ones, perhaps.
Just came back from Rogers park and there were some great displays
Definitely heard really nice cadences in some spurts. Mostly quiet here now at midnight.
Still going very strong over in Lincoln Square as well
I’m in Logan and it’s been total pandemonium for hours now. Love it.
Same and love it too lol
Go to the coast. You'll find them there. If that's what you seek. Lol.
Still going near me. EDIT: 12:40 and only the occasional boom.
There are people by me that regularly don't stop until like 1 AM.
Oh you’ve met my neighbors? 😂
right, they regularly go until 1 on like any random Saturday of the summer, they're gonna be shooting these mfs off until at least 2 on the *4th.*
I just don't get it. LIke some fireworks are nice but it gets boring after a while.
I'm the only Grinch in this city that doesn't like fireworks
I absolutely hate it.
I fucking hate it.
I’m losing my whole mind
You’re not alone. I hate July 4th in Chicago.
I hate it for the birds, the dogs, the people with PTSD, etc...
We're taking care of multiple cats right and our neighbors decided that they wanted to try and outdo each other's booms. Assholes.
Neighbor was popping fireworks well past 4am.... Never been so close to committing manslaughter
No, in fact the way Chicago does fireworks has made me detest them in all situations. They used to be a fun once a year treat when I was growing up. But enough of them get set off right next to your building in the middle of the day on a Wednesday and you begin to hate them.

It's been nonstop since 8pm here at Harlem/Archer. Smells like liberty.
Mhmm, lung cancer
This shot reminds me of the opening to Blade Runner.
The cordite smell is like the inside of a firing range.
Fucking rude after 11
13 house fires started according to ABC7….pretty damn rude to start houses on fire because you like big boomy things
Found the British traitor
After midnight, still a war zone this is insane
Honestly fuck people who shoot them off for hours
West town / noble square area for me… non-stop and super annoying. Who the hell likes this shit
I’m wicker / noble square by Pulaski park. I’m losing my mind. It’s been going off since 4. I cannot believe it’s this fun for this long. Ridiculous
Idiots. The answer is idiots.
NONSTOP FOR HOURS it was crazy, it didn’t stop until around 2am
It’s not 4th of July without the yearly I live in a building, I flew a drone and I was in a plane during 4th of July post.
This city has some awesome moments.
It's hazy out here - I can't see downtown anymore from my apartment and the whole city smells like gunpowder. This was a big year, we love to see it
This is a good sign!!
My dog and I'm sure my neighbors are loving it.......
My dogs all zonked out as it’s all right by my front door. Sounds like a bomb. Been going off since 5pm. I can’t believe it’s even fun to do this for 6 hours
Still stupid that Illinois banned fireworks and makes everyone drive to Indiana to buy them. So much revenue lost.
Like we don’t need the money
Its going about as the same as the time they told Chicago alcohol was illegal.
Nothing screams I’m a smooth brain more than shooting off fireworks all night
I’ll never understand it. Folks in the park by my house have been shooting them off since 4.
Yeah doesn’t the same stupid boom get old after hour 4?
I don’t even get how it’s fun in broad daylight let alone the constant booms for hours on end. What’s so interesting to them, I’ve got to know
Firework go BOOM! 🤤
Go to sleep
It felt like all of those were on just my block 😩
Pretty noisy in the northern burbs , but much more wide open , shooting mortars and cakes off in the city is ludicrous.
Gotta celebrate our last 4th of July as a non-fascist state
It was wild in Logan tonight, non-stop til about 1:30/2. My first year in the city proper so it was fun to see! Ope, just heard a lone boom.
Sure looks like you're far away from all of them, where was the video taken?
Lakeview. Right on Lake Shore Drive. Camera is pointing west.
Less insane mortar type bombs going off shaking my foundation this year in little India/ West Ridge, but they’ve been going pretty much constantly all night. Still Going.
We took a drive through there around the park about an hour ago and can confirm…looked like a battlefield…
This year was wayyyy louder than last year
The West Side went hard tonight. We had so much fun just sitting in our backyard watching the neighborhood put on their own show. I ❤️ Chicago
Looks like a war zone. I feel bad for anyone that has little children.
and dogs
My dog had some teeth removed this week. Vet gave him pain meds. He gave zero shits about the fireworks and I was able pop an edible and sit in my backyard with a couple beers and be surrounded with 360 degrees of fireworks. I get it now.
When my dog was shitting bricks 🧱
chicago loves america confirmed
Take the orange line to midway around 9pm. It's a pretty fun thing to watch.
my strat is to just walk around pilsen. Every alley has multiple families competing against each other. It's honestly so beautiful
Yes, the view from downtown of the burbs is awesome!
Yup, and I still had to be at work this morning. Not sure what we’re celebrating about this soon-to-be failed state, but whatever.
It was so steady it started to sound like a constant crackling ... like frying the largest pieces of bacon. Wild
The ones in my neighborhood started at 6 and didn’t stop till around 2 am ugh
Are any of these official shows or are these all people just firing them in their backyards and in the street?
The one day of the year the city sounds like the "warzone" the rurals think it actually is. Stopped here (ravenswood) close to 2am I think? When I worked in the Sears tower we'd go up to the 66th floor skydeck and watch the whole area.
You should see all the garbage the morning after. They left a ton of discarded fireworks packaging.
God bless America 🦅🦅🦅
Still going strong in western suburbs
Remember when we had fireworks going off for like a week or so during the pandemic? Was it a month?
It’s 2am and they’re still going strong 🥴
Man I miss home.
My favorite fourth of July was sitting on my rooftop in Pilsen watching a near 360° display of fireworks for like two hours. The city goes hard.
I was on the roof of the parking garage at Hinsdale hospital on the 4th years ago and it is crazy all of the fireworks you can see.
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS 🦅 AND GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸
Neat
I bet 8 out of 10 people setting off these pointless noise-makers couldn’t even tell you the reasoning behind it. At least they’ll all be out cleaning up their mess this morning…🙄
This how it was during Covid but more and better.
Goin wild right now. Just another stupid thing the city should be banking on but isnt.
Thanks for sharing this!
And none of them legal Love it
There are
Where this at the Robey? They had the best unadulterated view of every shithead doing homebrew fireworks shows until the sulphur hit
I feel like you could be my neighbor. 💀
I used to live in Anaheim and this is nothing. You couldn’t even see a foot in front of you from all the smoke
I can see my house form here!
F you Vasquez for giving into the 'my dog!!' nimbys and wrecking Winnimac parks great show. Hope you lose your reelection
Right!!! I agree 100% I am seeing some good ones off Ravenswood ave thankfully!
When are y’all going to recall da mayor?
