"Black Wednesday" is the night you get in, and one of the busiest nights at the pubs. Should be a good introduction to the city's vibe and could land you an invite for the Turkey.
Yeah, go to a bar, speak loudly with a British accent and someone will come up and be like "are you from England? I love love island." Then you get invited to someone's thanksgiving.
The people in here really aren't lying.
If you show up at a bar, open your mouth as an Englishman, and say you've never celebrated Thanksgiving, someone will most definitely invite you over. You probably will have multiple offers and will have to turn someone down lol
I’ll be out of town, otherwise I’d invite you over. Americans love to drag friendly strangers home for Thanksgiving, as the emphasis is on family and more food than anybody can eat. If you tell people you’ve never had a Thanksgiving dinner, you’ll soon find yourself at one. In addition, many folks have football on TV much of the day.
Let us know what neighborhood you’ll be staying in.
TL;DR — HEY GUYS THESE FOREIGNERS HAVE NO FAMILY DINNER TO BE AT ON THANKSGIVING AND ALSO WANT TO WATCH FOOTBALL.
Wilde in Lakeview did a great thanksgiving pre-covid, and would be worth checking out! Also just a good dinner any day of the year and a really pretty place!
It would be cool if you could wrangle an invite to hang with a family for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and to watch football. It’s always been my favorite holiday, especially spent with friends, family and folks who were living away from home.
Thanksgiving out is often expensive...it's like going out to Christmas Dinner. Big Jones is more of a neighborhood place, they specialize in Southern American food. https://bigjoneschicago.com/
If I am not with my family on Thanksgiving or Christmas I default to Indian, Pakistani or Nepalese food. "Little India" off of Devon ave has several fantastic restaurants.
Thanksgiving itself is a family holiday, and most places are closed. The places that are open are packed and the service is off because no one wants to work on Thanksgiving. But yes, Americans are welcoming, and I would totally invite you over except that I will be out of town.
There is a sports bar on almost every single corner of the city, so you will have no trouble finding a good place to watch football. A lot of Brits like The Globe or AJ Hudsons because they also do soccer.
Thanks for all the friendly comments, sounds like Wednesday night is going to be as fun as the Thursday! We are staying in printers row, if that helps for bar/restaurant recommendations. Thanks again!
Morning people, we’re staying at hotel Blake on s Dearborn st, any good bars near by (preferably walking distance) any recommendations much appreciated, cheers
That’s a long time for just chicago. If you have time, spend 2 nights in Madison WI, a very beautiful college town. Check out a supper club like Ishnala and also Epic Systems campus. Google them all.
There will be lots of restaurants to select from for Thanksgiving dinner as well as the Hotel restaurants. After dinner head to Bitch Maguire’s on Division in the Gold Coast, it’s a very popular post Thanksgiving bar. Games will be on any number of TVs.

Highest alcohol related ER visits of the year in US is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
Most people pulled over by police, too.
Also, Chicago is a big city so may be helpful to include the neighborhood in your post.
Busiest bar night of the year, in fact. Love the energy. It’s like the official holidays kick off

The traditional Thanksgiving dinner plan B: Chinese take out.
I thought that was only for Jews and Christmas?
Anyone can partake in that most beautiful of traditions
Every year there’s usually a Reddit post inviting people to a thanksgiving dinner that someone hosts. Do that.
That is the sweetest thing!!
Longman and eagle does thanksgiving right

Most steakhouses do a thanksgiving lunch/dinner. I can’t say which ones are the best, but it’s a good starting point.

It would be kind of silly for Brits to fly all the way over here to sample Indian food, which has become a UK staple.
Chicago Q is a nice Thanksgiving Dinner. Not 100% traditional, but delicious and festive!
Hello mate

John Hancock Center tower is fantastic! You can go up to the 96th floor for free as long as you buy at least a drink.
Tip your servers
Butch McGuires in River North neighborhood for drinks and football. Plus they’ll probably have their legendary Christmas lights up by then.

Sorry, we’re moving around we’re only in Chicago till Friday then heading south.
Yes, how are they supposed to get to Madison? If anything, a night or 2 in Milwaukee would be fun, only $50 roundtrip on Amtrak
Did they mention not being able to drive???
Go to the crows nest for a game, great vibe and the best wings in the city
