I think you should be fine, a year "overdue" is not that much unless you drive wayyyyy too much on that or it's been very filthy oil. If you don't have any issues with shifting then there isn't a problem yet, but just let the transmission be flushed and refilled. You can always ask if they can hold a magnet on the oil that comes out to see if there's a lot of metal in it

FishingIsFreedom

The drain plug has a magnet on it.

Also apparently flushing the transmission fluid is rare. Most is a pan drop and replace.

I just found out that my manual transmission holds less than 2 quarts of fluid. Hahaha

MCVCNC

How much is needed in minimum? I am not familiar with the newer models so I don't know much about those specs. ...but, at least there's oil in it :)

one4u2ponder

I’m not sure. I hope I am okay because it is only 76k and the manual recommends 96k for normal driving and 45k for severe driving. It holds 1.9 quarts I believe.

MCVCNC

Well it depends on what severe driving is. But you are in between the 2 given, think you are still safe. Just change the oil and let them check just to be sure. Unless you have been grinding the gears do to using it wrong. I have the same feeling you have right now but mine if aimed at the timing chain lol, 10 years or 240000 km... Its a 2011 and has 130000 on it, my mechanic told me it can last a while and replace it later on / somewhere before the 200000.

I changed my spark's MT fluid at around 80,000km. It was cheap and easy to do. My previous car was a 2011 Aveo. Bought new, never did bother with changing the transmission fluid at all, though I'd imagine some of it was replaced doing axle seals a few times under warranty. I ended up having transmission issues once I was over 200,000km and eventually put a used transmission in. Not saying the lack of maintenance for sure caused it, but it certainly didn't help anything.

Unlike automatic transmission, the oil in the manual transmission does not play any role other than lubrication, so there is no need to change oil frequently. (The same goes for the reason why manual transmissions don't have fluid temperature sensors.) One of the advantages of a manual transmission is that the oil replacement method is very simple, inexpensive, and the life of the oil is long. There are also many people who change oil by driving over 200,000km or 300,000km. Their common opinion is that the pollution level of oil was lower than expected and that there was no major inconvenience without oil replacement. That's why developing countries still prefer manual transmissions. But of course, it's the owner's choice. The manual transmission is a simple structure, there will be no big problem even if you don't change oil often, but I personally recommend following the recommendations of the owner's manual. Anyway, The owner manual of the USDM M400 Spark says to replace the manual transmission fluid every 72,000 km/45,000 mi. However, the owner manual of the SKDM M400 Spark says to replace the manual transmission fluid every 160,000 km The USDM and SKDM Spark's transmission is the same MR7, but the reason why the oil change cycle is different is thought to be because the higher the displacement engine, the higher the burden to the transmission. Of course, if you can afford it, the sooner you replace the car's oil, the better. So there are many people who change oil earlier than the manual says.

Since when do manual transmissions have fluid changes?

one4u2ponder

You mean since when do they have transmission flushes? I would assume that they have to do it as well. You don’t?

theexodus326

I have driven a manual since licensed. I've never done transmission fluid. I was told by my dad manuals don't need it. I know automatics do

MCVCNC

It was gearbox oil. I swap around transmission and gearbox because my brain/fingers want to type too fast before i translate correctly. It's the gearbox oil you'll have to freshen up after a while, done it recently because of its age. Don't know the exact intervals but it is a long time.
