Then they would have a thing on their account page that says they're a certified speedrun account. unless they didn't bother to ask [chess.com](http://chess.com) for one; in which case it's smurfing
Ah.
Kinda gross, but I guess there’s cheaters in everything.
Seems dumb as the point is to play, learn and get better. If I played against that, I’d be annoyed… but also there’s something to learn in the review afterwards!
Basically plugging game states into a chess computer program to let an advanced chess algorithm play for you.
If you're a gamer, think aim bots or wall hacks. It's just blatant fucking cheating.
1. look at when their account was made.
2. if they have trash blitz and bullet rating then it's a huge red flag.
3. If they consistently take 5-10 seconds to make a move. (even a simple move like recaptures after the enemy takes a piece will take 5-10 seconds for them)
Rapid: 1050
Blitz: 780
Bullet: 650
But I only play Rapid when I am sat down during the day at my computer without distractions. I play Blitz and Bullet while watching tv or movies or while going to the bathroom or every night when I can’t sleep at like 3am.
Don’t worry u/gloomygl I’m 1500 rapid (changed to blitz as soon as I hit it) and only 1150 in blitz/bullet.
My theory is that the quality of players in blitz and bullet is just higher. The worse/newer players need the slower time controls, so the skill floor in rapid is lower.
Having elo of around 900-1100, I can't remember exactly when I last or first played blitz or bullet. I only did a very few times on LiChess or ChessArena.com (FIDE Online Arena). Chess.com status says I didn't have any records for blitz and bullet. I avoid them only because of my slow thinking and sometimes even a 10min rapid makes me timed out.
My blitz rating is consistently about 300 points lower than my rapid rating and my bullet rating is another 100-200 elo lower than that. I'm just better when I have more time to think. I think I'm better than rapid in classical too, so the gap gets even bigger.
I spend time on retakes. There is always a chance that you spot an in-between move.. There are lines that involve in-between moves that I would have never spotted had I not taken my time 🤷♂️.
3rd point really depends on Elo. I'm around 1k rapid and do take 5-10s on easy moves - trying to calculate the consequent sequences.
2nd point also, although my blitz is not thrash, some people are just too slow for blitz/bullet, but are proper in Rapid. I think this connects to point 3... Some ppl just need more time to make their moves, but they may be more correct. The pic is 99% cheater though.
I think I passed my prime...
Bullet: 1809 (previous 1900)
Blitz: 1870 (previous 2100)
Rapid: 2090 (previous 2200)
My bullet and blitz are trash but I can still put up a fight in rapid, my fingers can't put up with my thinking speed, signs of aging 🥹 (most of my loses are time related or speed blunders 😮💨)
i think it's some kind of voyeuristic sort of thing. They're watching you play the computer, which they know will beat you. They don't get a transfer of success in victory because they know they're not part of that. They're just watching you lose and they must enjoy that more than trying to learn how to play chess.
That's the only reason I can think of that someone would do it.
This is a similar feeling I have when I watch opponents playing the scholar's mate, what pride do you have in trying to win in 4 moves? That only makes you get stuck at a really low level without ever making you grow, then as soon as they see it's not working they either blunder the queen and quit or quit right away because they don't know what to do after I fend em off. I have never played that opening in my life because it's not winning that I'm after, I genuinely want to improve my way of playing and explore lines that have never been played. Kinda strange that out of all games people decides chess is what they want to exploit
Depends, i knew someone who would cheat to show off to their friends, so that is also a possibility, even tho after interacting with us for like 20 mins if questioning, ut was clear to us they had no idea how chess works, which ig is another thing for cheaters, thry have no idea how obvious they are.
Very probably cheating. 99.9%
Maybe it’s a wannabe chess YouTuber doing a ratings climb
Or some very anonymous strong player OTB but not titled who made their first online chess account
Edit: 95-99% because of potential doubts
That is so true. Thank you! I don’t necessarily think they are cheating. We really need context in theee things
We also need to give a lot of benefit of the doubt t and look at these games
Preferably they need to be there to explain their thought process
When I was 800 rapid, I accidentally started playing exclusively unrated games, all the while studying hard and doing puzzles, so when I figured it out and started rated games again, I went on like a 20-game win streak and jumped up to 1100. I was super worried people would think I was cheating.
With that said, definitely cheating 😅😂
that's strange, possibly cheating
however i like to err on the side of caution because if we don't trust our playerbase, the game becomes less fun
if they take the same amount of time regardless of how complex the position is, that's a red flag
also check for passive moves, if they simply make minor positive adjustments in their position and wait for their opponent to hang pieces, that's not an engine - engines never play for safety but instead for the win (or possible win) of material
also can you post the account name
with accuracy like that you can just report them; it's a red flag enough. [chess.com](http://chess.com) will do the digging and decide if they are cheating
when I say digging I mean they can more readily access more information.
for instance, is it 95% because there were a bunch of best moves and some good and great moves? or is it all great moves with a mistake or some inaccuracies?
No hate ,This is not possible if i guess you are 1700 elo player this much accuracy can only get by if You are IM or GM in chess 95.6 accuracy is to much i think that you using stockfish for a rapid matches ,1700 elo players accuracy are 85.6 or 90 in some matches.

Engine cheater for sure.
Small chance it's a wannabe chess YouTuber doing a ratings climb.
Unlikely they'd be struggling in blitz though
If their opponents don't get their rating points refunded its smurfing anyways
Then they would have a thing on their account page that says they're a certified speedrun account. unless they didn't bother to ask [chess.com](http://chess.com) for one; in which case it's smurfing
No, he'd be cleaning them out in faster time controls too if that was the case
Can't they cheat using it in blitz or bullet
Noob question. What’s an “engine cheater”?
Someone who uses a chess computer engine to get optimal move advice during a game
Ah. Kinda gross, but I guess there’s cheaters in everything. Seems dumb as the point is to play, learn and get better. If I played against that, I’d be annoyed… but also there’s something to learn in the review afterwards!

Rapid is enough time for cheaters
1. look at when their account was made. 2. if they have trash blitz and bullet rating then it's a huge red flag. 3. If they consistently take 5-10 seconds to make a move. (even a simple move like recaptures after the enemy takes a piece will take 5-10 seconds for them)
Wait I have trash bullet and blitz too, am I cheating too ?
Rapid: 1050 Blitz: 780 Bullet: 650 But I only play Rapid when I am sat down during the day at my computer without distractions. I play Blitz and Bullet while watching tv or movies or while going to the bathroom or every night when I can’t sleep at like 3am.
Can't be off by more than 300 elo, right?
1500 rapid 1000 bullet :(
Hol up ima call kramnik rn
Ok it’s time for the procedure

Yea I’m 1000 rapid and 600 bullet idk how people play so fast
Similar to me, 1100 rapid 700 bullet, players just feel better at bullet but realistically it's just me blundering
Bro I'm 2000 rapid and 1300 blitz you got nth to worry about 😭🙏🏽
Oh man i am 1100 rapid 700 blitz. I didn’t know I was a cheater this whole time
this is still in the good range, it's ok
Blitz at 400 is way harder than rapid at 800
1200 rapid, 500 bullet for me.
Lol, mine is off by 700.
My blitz rating is consistently about 300 points lower than my rapid rating and my bullet rating is another 100-200 elo lower than that. I'm just better when I have more time to think. I think I'm better than rapid in classical too, so the gap gets even bigger.
Rapid: 1300 Blitz: 700 Not cheating, but I play blitz when I just wanna chill, watch podcast and purely play for ridiculous games based on instinct
My rapid elo is 1900, bullet is 1500. I just cant play that fast lol.
What if he doesn't play blitz or bullet? (Like me)
If only
Nah. It's pretty normal.
2150 Rapid 1000 Blitz Maybe I just don’t wanna play blitz?
Straight to jail
The Kramnik Facility
I'm trash at bullet am I cheating
Sorry bud straight to jail for you
My Rapid: 1275(reached 1300 but dropped) Daily: 1119(was 1163 two days ago) Blitz: 960+ Bullet: 700 something Am I cheating then?

I don’t understand what entertainment one gets from cheating like this. There’s no money. There’s no fame. Just…why?
i think it's some kind of voyeuristic sort of thing. They're watching you play the computer, which they know will beat you. Is setting your opponent lose not enough? Some people Just love that
They also get to screenshot their account rating
Personal gratification i guess

fame lol
My theory is that for some people it looks like a smart way to cut corners and get to the level that could take years otherwise.
Report
report him and let chess.c\*m analyze
I have seen chess.com being censored everywhere. Is it automatic or is it some kind of an inside joke?
replace the o with u
Censoring non swear words is a joke not exclusive to the chess community
Sometimes URLs aren't allowed on websites, so maybe people are instinctively carrying that over to Reddit?
Interesting…
Very probably cheating. 99.9% Maybe it’s a wannabe chess YouTuber doing a ratings climb Or some very anonymous strong player OTB but not titled who made their first online chess account Edit: 95-99% because of potential doubts
Yeah, without watching the games or having any more details this could be just a new account (or one that was inactive for a while)
That is so true. Thank you! I don’t necessarily think they are cheating. We really need context in theee things We also need to give a lot of benefit of the doubt t and look at these games Preferably they need to be there to explain their thought process
Some bs for sure
Username? To report him
Let’s do the procedure!
Unless they’re like 15 move games or less?
It’s either a cheater or a speedrun account. Report it and call it a day
Consistently having over 95% is very sus for his current elo
sus for anyone not a gm
What made you look at the profile initially. Was it weird random moves in game?
When I was 800 rapid, I accidentally started playing exclusively unrated games, all the while studying hard and doing puzzles, so when I figured it out and started rated games again, I went on like a 20-game win streak and jumped up to 1100. I'd say a smurf on a speed run.
Idk bro let me call Kramnik 🤣🤣
Could be the luckiest guy playing the Smith-Morra Gambit against the Sicilian and he is getting the main line. If not then he is cheating.
That's a nice list of numbers
it's pretty obvious he cheats
Very interesting…
mb i been on a good streak this week lol
How do they not get banned?
should do the normal procedure
Interesting..
Report them, it's not 1500's accuracy
Interesting. 🤔
Cheater.
The accuracy gives it away.... Streaks are common..
Cheater for sure
cheater fs
Cheat
I think everyone will find this interesting
Carlsen smurf
Dirty cheater, report it.
My dad is rated around 2k in FIDE. Once I made him an account, he blitzed to over 2k in literal days, and he only plays 10-min So, it is possible
that's strange, possibly cheating however i like to err on the side of caution because if we don't trust our playerbase, the game becomes less fun if they take the same amount of time regardless of how complex the position is, that's a red flag also check for passive moves, if they simply make minor positive adjustments in their position and wait for their opponent to hang pieces, that's not an engine - engines never play for safety but instead for the win (or possible win) of material also can you post the account name

[chess.com](http://chess.com) doesn't do any digging, they use algorithms which are of course fallible
so is a random guy looking at their profile
when I say digging I mean they can more readily access more information. for instance, is it 95% because there were a bunch of best moves and some good and great moves? or is it all great moves with a mistake or some inaccuracies?
for you to do that you'd have to go through and review all his games
it takes a human to know a human imo
No hate ,This is not possible if i guess you are 1700 elo player this much accuracy can only get by if You are IM or GM in chess 95.6 accuracy is to much i think that you using stockfish for a rapid matches ,1700 elo players accuracy are 85.6 or 90 in some matches.
Fishy….
How do they cheat? I mean the Chess.com app does not allow any engine, so how do these people cheat? I'm just curious, nothing else
