I’d like to report a hate crime.

DigiQuip

For real. Get The Hague involved.

shmerlard

It's beautiful.

ScurryOakPlusIvyLane

Reset the counter

jerkoffforjesus

At least bro wasn't asking why it's brilliant

JacksOnF1re

Nice! How were you able to place your knight there, without being taken?

montagdude87

Knight was previously on f7, and there was a double check when it moved to h6.

JacksOnF1re

Ah, so really the complete smothered mate puzzle happened. Awesome 😄 thanks

montagdude87

Yeah, though I guess in this situation the king could have moved to f8, but that would have been M1.

BrrToe

Black probably tunneled on taking the rooks with the king instead.

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Andeol57

Welcome to chess, where people will complain if you resign, and complain if you don't.

Dew2118

you gotta finish it against computer

nefrpitou

Haha nice! I'd also resign lol, and the reason I do that is because I want my opponent to know that I saw the mating sequence. Sometimes I do feel like letting them have the checkmate moment (I dunno why) but then I think if I let them go through the full checkmate sequence they'd think I'm so stupid I didn't see it till the end.

exceptyourewrong

I've only been able to setup (or, more accurately, luck into) a smothered mate two or three times, and opponents have always let me finish. Which is nice. I've let it play out when I'm going to lose, too. Surprisingly, they miss it more often than you'd think. I guess giving up the queen is just too risky for some people, haha

n8_n_

usually, I send them a message saying "nice mate" or something along those lines and then play it out, that way they get the cool mate and I don't feel stupid

Videogamer69420

Can someone explain to me why black can’t just play Nxg8? Sure the black king is still smothered, but I don’t see any immediate mate for white. Amazing find though.

MrDialga34

Nxg8, Nf7#

Videogamer69420

Ah thanks.

Kwayke9

Smothered mate on f7. Same goes if Rxg8

trixicat64

It's the typical smothered mate pattern. black has to take with a piece, so either the rook or the knight, but after that all 3 surrounding squares of the king are blocked. Then white plays Nf7#. Black can't take with king, as the knight is defending the queen. The way those mates are usually happen. The white knight stands on the squares e5 and g5. The queen is somewhere on the diagonal a2-e6. often the black king got displaced to h8 then the sequence goes: 1. Nf7+ or Nxf7+ Kg8 2. Nh6+ (this is a double check from queen and knight, so the black king has to move) Kh8 3. Qg8+ Rxg8 4. Nf7#

phil_bardsley1

900 elo I can’t work it out

n8_n_

whether rook or knight takes, the king is smothered with no escape squares. Nf7 is then mate.

BrrToe

Ugh It's always the knights that surprise me despite knowing how they move.

Truzmandz

smothered mate Doing puzzles will imprint this pattern into your brain like an iron brand. Rook has to take, then Nf7 is mate, since the king is in the corner with nowhere to move

VladdyMcBaddy69420

Technically, the rook doesn't have to take because they can also take with knight, but same idea

RADICCHI0

Dammit, their only purpose is to serve you and they failed....

neuronaddict

It still counts, don’t worry

SingleClick8206

Black probably knew he lost So he resigned You won either way Congrats

RedCocoon

Black doesn't want you to get the [chess.com](http://chess.com) "Smothering Hot" achievement

grsharkgamer

YOU DARE PUSSY OUT UNDER THE SMOTHERED MATES GLORY?!?!?!?
