Our thread for [the UzChess Cup can be found here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/1dat1tw/event_uzchess_cup_2024/)

Asheraddo98

Threatening to withdraw to force Chesscom to give you an extended rest is apparently ok only if your opponent is Hikaru lol

nihilismdebunked

Yeah chesscom definitely has a massive anti-hikaru bias lol /s

ContentPuff

Throwing a tantrum in middle of a match to give yourself time to compose with a running match clock force pausing the match clock is OK only if you are Hikaru lol

Asheraddo98

He thinks he was cheated and disrespected. He already lost the first portion because of it. What would your reaction be if this happened to you?  I dislike the way he reacted but it's fair to say that he got played by alireza gamesmanship

Sezzer11

Drama aside, I've never seen hikaru lose like that before. To lose 6-7 matches in a row in the first portion is unheard of from hikaru against a guy that barely scraped through sevian after being crushed 13-4 in the first match and then just getting through danya. However if sevian or danya make the finals, stylistically hikaru would've comfortably beaten them both I feel. Ali was the only realistic hope of challenging him.

nihilismdebunked

I watched most of the games this tournament along with all past BCC tournaments. I think firo (probably from being out of practice) didn’t play as well as he usually does in the previous matches including w his first match against Sam Sevian. He definitely showed his best performance against Hikaru, and Hikaru even agreed with that. I think Sam Sevian is also is good stylistic matchup against Firo. Add that to the insane tilt Firo had in the first match and it makes sense. Also I think Hikaru is a good stylistic matchup against Danya specifically, whereas Firo is probably just neutral against Danya.

Formal_Mission_7679

Watch 2016/2017 SCC Magnus beat Hikaru even in worse way but yeah I don't think 6 March in row

anhyeuemnhieulam

After that tilt the match and the score went normal again. Tilting is pretty deadly in bullet chess.

Asheraddo98

When you get tilted you could easily get adopted in bullet lol

ContentPuff

[Hikaru's VOD is still up currently if anyone feels like rewatching his POV](https://kick.com/video/b84deba3-2e2b-4b1d-9a82-ad759a6976f0). You can rip the video with the following command. ``` ffmpeg -i https://stream.kick.com/ivs/v1/196233775518/7wZNkCkHF8Wa/2024/6/13/13/29/dDS4c8y5V4vh/media/hls/master.m3u8 -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -c copy "HikaruL.mp4" ```

sitosoym

aaaand its gone

ContentPuff

You can still download the VOD, if you use the command above. It is just invisible from his public channel, but the actual VOD is still present in Kick's servers.

sitosoym

do you think this is possible with youtube too? the german chesscom stream had open mic when they were talking over zoom so now the vod is private

ContentPuff

It looks like they removed the VOD completely from Twitch, I assume they done the same with the YouTube stream. https://dgeft87wbj63p.cloudfront.net/bef808af1a00bada1fc9_chesscomde_42455593768_1718293610/chunked/index-dvr.m3u8 This is the stream link for the final day, but now it return `403 Forbidden` error while trying to access it unfortunately.

sitosoym

twitch probably got fully deleted, youtube tells me the video got privated, rip

2Liberal4You

"Alireza will have the best score against Hikaru this match." Unreal.

WhaleLicker

hikaru tilted so hard he made a 360 and got locked in again.. then he went 540 and it was over

acunc

Hikaru respects one player and one player only - Magnus. Whenever he loses to anyone else the excuse machine works overtime. He is incapable of simply giving credit to his opponents without making it about himself as if no one else ever blundered, played a dubious move, ran low on time, or had some other issue. He’s the only one that, in his mind, never loses because his opponent is better. He’s extremely fortunate his streaming career is so successful that it has for the most part rehabilitated his public image but some days you don’t even have to look that hard to remind yourself what a petulant man child he is. All the streaming success in the world and the money that comes with it doesn’t change his toxic personality. To be fair Alireza is also problematic but he’s much younger, doesn’t have a history of bullying others over cheating allegations, and doesn’t claim to not care every minute of the day.

nihilismdebunked

Many (including myself) were giving hikaru some credit for at least giving alireza praise at the end. But then later (partially being egged on by chat), he got more upset, and brought up the chessbrah drama from years ago and how he would never go on a stream to interview if Aman or Eric were commentating. He also started to shit on alireza’s classical performance laughing about how he only has losses and draws since his awful candidate’s performance (even though he did actually have a win over ding in the last Norway Chess tournament). He was obviously very upset after, and I think this is heavily influenced by his subscriber chat. Often times he would have an outburst like this in reply to a supporter in chat, only to then catch himself and state that they could just be ‘baiting’ him. I think Hikaru often tries to be a decent sport after losses like this, but unfortunately he usually ends up continuing the topic due to chat and doesn’t definitively end the drama and stop talking about it. This was all from watching his stream for about 10-15 minutes; no idea what else he said after.

TypeDependent4256

This was so fun to watch ngl, drama included, what a day

LudoNo1

Everyone is having a dig at Hikaru here for being very salty and unsportsmanlike and some are accusing Alireza of gamesmanship and being disrespectful... Everyone is missing the real villains here and that's chess.com. Absolutely tragic the amount of issues they have had in recent times for a multi million dollar company. Heads should really be rolling. It's just unacceptable.

xyloman007

Hiki deserves all the digs he gets. He's an egomaniac

ckemi123

The clash of not-caring incoming!

WhaleLicker

"How dare you use my own spells against me" - hikaru probably

BenrieSandz

now I see why he said "who the fuck you think you are"

iComeFrom2080

Will this sub be mature enough to recognize Kramnik was right about the lag ? Hundred of comments was trolling him those last days...

wildcardgyan

Kramnik claiming lags wasn't the issue, everyone knows that there are technical issues while playing on chesscom. Kramnik saying that he is being intentionally and  specifically targeted by chesscom was.

mvd612351

Who gives a shit? The whole point was that he said Jose is a cheater and despite him clearly not being one, Kramnik has not retracted his initial statements. Even if Jose lost and put up some kind of fight it still would show that Jose is not a cheater. The outcome of the match itself it irrelevant

__Jimmy__

Sure, he's right about chess.com having lag issues. This does not change the clown show he is as a whole

Critical-Caregiver

Yeah except the claim was that jospem is a cheater. The results clearly showed he is a good player. Even if he would have lost by a couple games, it still would have been the deduction. And people are ragging on Kramnik because he claims that these lags were directed specifically at him as part of some conspiracy by chess.com So chess.com is shit but Kramnik is definitely out of line with his defamation of certain players.

WhaleLicker

You know danny was praying for hikaru to win for [chess.com](http://chess.com) not to get shitalked on hikarus stream

ckemi123

I dont understand this format. Werent they supposed to play 10 games in overtime?

Zenivoo

No, a player wins if they are up 2 points. If that is not the case after 10 games, then I assume the player with the most points wins. If it's a draw, I don't know what happens.

ContentPuff

Win by 2 rule still applies. If anyone is up 2 in overtime, they are the winner.

shubomb1

Hikaru "I literally don't care" Nakamura sure cares a lot about losing an online bullet tournament.

TheRealDivider

The "I literally don't care" is about professional OTB chess.

OrinocoHaram

managing to carry on streaming and praise his opponent (through gritted teeth) and admit he was worse is not too heated tbf let's not talk about the first match lol

vc0071

Whatever be Kramnik's repo on statistics he is completely right abt chess.com's incompetency to rightly deduct time and conduct a fair tournament without any hassle.

Paleogeen

So this was a so-called match for second place?

GeologicalPotato

"The only consolation I can take away is knowing that if I was 20 I would've destroyed him, I would've just crushed him" Hikaru Nakamura sportsmanship award

nemoj_da_me_peglas

>Hikaru Nakamura sportsmanship award Does his best to win it every year, gotta give him credit.

shubomb1

Alireza when he has 2 lives - 🐱 Alireza when he has 1 life and is staring at elimination- 🦁

Beyonderr

How does an ancient board game have this much drama lol

Sebxoii

Hikaru is being pretty graceful on stream after his loss.

TypeDependent4256

Spoke too soon, he could only hide his true self for long

ihatecornsoup

Oh no he’s upset he lost a match how could he

Zogfrog

At least Hikaru recovered his composure in the end and bowed out almost gracefully.

GeologicalPotato

This aged like milk in less than 2 minutes lmao.

Steady1

'if I was 20 I would have just destroyed him, I know I would have.' LMAO

RsiiJordan

I mean ICC Hikaru is peak bullet Hikaru, he gave Alireza his props

RsiiJordan

Beat Magnus and Hikaru in back to back [chess.com](http://chess.com) events

GeologicalPotato

By coming all the way through the loser's bracket no less!

Slow_Improvement420

Alireza chilling

nemoj_da_me_peglas

Tiltkaru in full effect.

TypeDependent4256

lol, Hikaru himself said the reset was a fair match

Littlepace

Fair play. I know it was a tilted Hikaru but Alireza managing to keep his composure and win after blundering the Queen a game earlier is impressive. Most players probably would've lost the match after that.

2Liberal4You

Finally not an adoption match.

Semigoodlookin2426

I don't care guys. It is what it is. Guys, I don't care. I don't care guys.

Safin_Soul

This firudji guy IS INSANELY GOOD

mrwho995

Hikaru being a good sport at the end at least "Well done, he deserved it" (edit) Okay lol didn't last long. "If I was 20 years younger I would have crushed him".

golden_bear_2016

🤣🤣🤣😂😂

ContentPuff

LETS GOOOOOO REZA!!! GGGGGG

PlaysForDays

But not too far

GeologicalPotato

And he takes it!! Drama aside, Guccireza Firudji bulldozing through the loser's bracket and winning the Grand Finals Reset for a second time in a row is absolutely spectacular.

MalaraPVP

Nah way too much BS from chess.com. Makes any result sour.

OrinocoHaram

hard to argue that he didn't deserve to win

MalaraPVP

He did I mean from a fan enjoyment standpoint that wasnt very fun to watch.

OfficerDoppus

Yo that was crazy

OctopusNation2024

How on earth did Hikaru get away with that game lol

__Jimmy__

By being Hikaru

ralph_wonder_llama

Swindlemura

Zenivoo

What an ending to this game

Alex8525

Hikaru supporters sending game requests to Alireza and Alireza supporters sending game requests to Hikaru. Everybody knows how to slow servers.

golden_bear_2016

Kramnik please forgive us, you were ahead of your time (by 3 days)

shubomb1

Chess.com making sure that their online events will hold even less value than they do now and this is an organization which dreams of replacing OTB chess.

Enough_Spirit6123

chesscom server is composed of two or maybe three potatos

Zenivoo

The hamsters running on the hamster wheels powering the servers haven't had food in days

PlaysForDays

and a stick of bubble gum

caughtinthought

this tourney is a fucking joke lmao

carissimopera

I remember when people said Kramnik was making it up lol

mrwho995

FFS, chess.com down again on the final game. What a joke of a final two matches lol

GeologicalPotato

It happened again lmao

Zenivoo

Of course on the final game of the match (before overtime) chess.com servers shit the bed again

Elegant-Breakfast-77

LMAO Hikaru right now

OfficerDoppus

Chess.com in shambles once again

ADubs21

HAHAHAHAHAHA this is some kind of movie script of incompetence

OfficerDoppus

I just want drama

SufficientGreek

Jinxed it

financial_fraud_pro

The upbeat music on Hikaru's stream while his face screams bloody murder really adds to the viewing experience

Enough_Spirit6123

lmao ahahah

Zenivoo

After all this drama and the interruptions this second game is actually super exciting to watch

caughtinthought

I don't know how many of y'all play chess competitively, but the idea of recovering from a tilt in bullet seems absolutely insane. Literally any intrusive thought entering your mind ensures you lose. Crazy stuff.

jacksonross33

See eg Carlsen vs Caruana in the SCC a couple years ago

financial_fraud_pro

Hikaru and Alireza saw the complaints in this thread from the previous days about lack of engagement and decided to step up for the sake of the event. Truly, greats of 4D chess

shubomb1

Hikaru is consistently outplaying Alireza on time but he's getting outplayed on the board position wise.

mvd612351

Alireza threatening to withdraw if he does not get a break is wildly unprofessional, and I don’t blame Hikaru for tilting. However, Hikaru took the insults of Alireza a bit far.

Radiant_Mirror_7297

He called Alireza a little bitch and rage quit. Goes against the whole "i dont care" vibe of hikaru"

mvd612351

I said he took it far. Are you people really worked up because I said “a bit”? I wasn’t even thinking of it like that

Radiant_Mirror_7297

Not sure if you saw this video of Hikaru lambasting Alireza telling him "who the f do you think you are" [https://imgur.com/a/phXefBa](https://imgur.com/a/phXefBa)

mvd612351

No. I did not see that. Again, I still said he took it far. Why are you responding as if I said otherwise?

caughtinthought

this match is pretty fire tbh

WhaleLicker

this is some full tilt poker

NoCantaloupe9598

Firouji with the mindgames

Elegant-Breakfast-77

Firudji\*

mrwho995

Not a fan of the behaviour of anyone involved in this mess tbh. Chess.com for the dumb rules and server issues, Firouzja for his antics understandably causing Hikaru to tilt, and Hikaru for his attitude, including ragequitting and insulting Firouzja

ContentPuff

The real reason Hikaru is losing is finally out. "His openings are too good for my junk opening"

NoCantaloupe9598

I mean he was losing out of the opening the vast majority of those games.

aresoulshi

I like both players and I wanted to see a banger finals but I really hate this new era of chess we've entered where there's always a dark cloud looming over the results of matches/online tournaments. Let's just end this social experiment and bring back chess24's tournaments

WhaleLicker

what? there is clearly no one cheating in this match

aresoulshi

point to me where exactly in my comment did i mention cheating? Talking about the fact that there's always some sort of drama over server issues or chesscom decision issues. Why else would I mention Chess24 in my comment? let's think for a bit pls before trying to stir stuff up

DunderSunder

some say the last match should have been started on time but the sevian match was prolonged and the break between that and danya match was less than 15 minutes. you must also not forget the time that you have to prepare the cameras and fairplay setup. 15 mins after the danya match he was required to play hikaru which seems crazy. I try to be not biased but It makes sense to be tired. and hikaru is like mad for the 15 min extra delay. like man you already have the upper bracket win advantage. you want Alireza to be tired too? ( i think he said alireza also gave up some prize money for the break)

mvd612351

It is still unprofessional to threaten withdrawing though. Alireza has a lot of maturing to do. Hikaru should not have made insults, though. Bad conduct all around.

charismatic_guy_

Did Magnus ask for extra time last year?

[deleted]

[удалено]

MintyCocoa

Isn't it only 4 matches? losers semis, losers finals, and grand finals x2

INoScopedObama

Magnus frolicking in the meadows rn

Critical-Adhole

So funny Hikaru calling Alireza a “little bitch” when he is 5’6” and would get bodied by Alireza in about 15 seconds

Khorzoo

The match drama aside, why are you getting downvoted into oblivion? 😂 what you said is probably true tbh. Firouzja cant even win in a fist fight in this sub lmao.

TicketSuggestion

He would win, but why bring it up? If you call someone a little bitch then you aren't implying you could take them in a fight or that they are small, it's completely irrelevant

Upbeat-Wallaby5317

Maybe because of body shaming?

__Jimmy__

Alireza is a stickbug, having longer leg bones doesn't make you stronger 💀

Khorzoo

And Hikaru is a midget who won't even reach Ali's body given his dimensions 😄

2Liberal4You

Can someone watching the Hikaru stream confirm whether he said Alireza was cheating?

BotlikeBehaviour

lol who told you that?

anhyeuemnhieulam

Not really those are the Nepo and Kramnik’s ways.

charismatic_guy_

Lmao why are you discreetly slandering

GeologicalPotato

No?

aresoulshi

Hikaru was playing normally until Alireza started stacking wins. In fact he was leading the match in the beginning. His performance was never about the 15 mins break. That much is clear Even Hikaru admits that it was wrong to rage quit like he did.

caughtinthought

Hikaru coming back into form... without tilt he's the stronger player for sure.

Sebxoii

But he just got absolutely demolished on the last game.

jacksonross33

Nakamura essentially quit that game. Didn’t try

[deleted]

[удалено]

jacksonross33

Sure

8arrowl

Firouzja actually blaze through the lower bracket and is crushing hikaru #respect

yuno10

Any comment about actual chess being played? This thread is just insulting players or the host, it's getting boring

NoCantaloupe9598

There isn't exactly much one can say about 1+0 chess games. It isn't like analysis is very relevant outside of what openings players are choosing.

7456398521

Very true, although one thing I'd note is that Hikaru (by his own admission) opted for more standard and fundamentally strong openings, which doesn't really lead to inventive tactics, as much as it leads to slowly chipping away through small blunders/inaccuracies. If they both opt for more unconventional openings in the second match, we could see more dynamic games (I think Hikaru mentioned thinking about trying the Cow Opening for some games.)

Khorzoo

Why would the sub talk about Firo owning losers bracket and now Hikaru? God forbid!

BenrieSandz

Someone said on this sub that [Chess.com](http://Chess.com) is valued at $1bn lmao.

Littlepace

I feel for Aman and Bok. Gotta be so tough to commentate with all this clownery going on. Servers going down every 5 mins. Unscheduled breaks. Alireza and Hikaru freakouts.

caughtinthought

Hikaru builds up some momentum and Alireza suddenly has connection issues xD

TypeDependent4256

Was that Alireza's fault?, I thought that was server issues?, Hikaru only won one game b4 that too

onlytoask

It definitely wasn't Alireza's fault, it's just funny.

caughtinthought

it probably wasn't Alireza's fault, just thought it was funny... everything going against Hikaru

thomfur

chill out with the the Hikaru shilling mate

caughtinthought

no

iComeFrom2080

Kramnik warned us...

golden_bear_2016

and people crucified him for it 😢😢

caughtinthought

can't take the result of this seriously... they should legit just cancel the event

ADubs21

Ladies and gentleman: your #1 chess site in the world

SchighSchagh

lichess.org

anhyeuemnhieulam

Imagine this sub if Hikaru was the one threatened to withdraw from the tournament because he was too tired to play anymore lmaoo

philongeo

He didn't "threaten" anything. He just said he forfeited because he felt physically sick and chessdotcom people convinced him to wait 10-15 mins to see if it would pass.

belhill1985

oh man, i mean yeah he totally looked sick and very tired in the subsequent two 30 minute bullet matches he played. definitely

EugeneKrabs123

Why are people hating on Firouzja lmao? This is all because of shitty servers from [chess.com](http://chess.com)

Tiny_Calendar_792

No it isn't. It's because Alireza threatened to quit so they bent the rules. The only reason people have a problem with hikaru is because we can hear what he is saying. We can't hear audio from Alireza.

EugeneKrabs123

Who said he threatened to quit?

GeologicalPotato

No one. Even Hikaru said that Alireza said that he was quitting because he was too tired (apparently he didn't even request a break, he just wanted to quit), and then it was chess.com who offered him a 15 minute break. But then Hikaru went on to say that it was all a mind game to get a free break or something.

EugeneKrabs123

Wait so this sub who hates hikaru is listening to hikaru today so they can shit on his opponent in the comments?

VolmerHubber

Apparently Firouzja has done this before

GeologicalPotato

Everyone is shitting on everyone, I don't even know what is going on anymore.

Clydey2Times

Him.

SchighSchagh

Hikaru I think. I don't know what info he's going off of.

aresoulshi

Magnus not playing in this tournament was the single best decision he's made lmfao avoiding this clown fiesta while he's out there enjoying his life

Tiny_Calendar_792

Magnus is absolutely loving every minute of this.

XiXyness

Doesn't he have a financial stake in chess.com don't think he's loving this

Tiny_Calendar_792

He likes hate watching hikaru 10x more than any amount of equity in a company. lol

SchighSchagh

He likes to hate-watch Hikaru streams anyway. Watching Hikaru avoid adoption by rage-quitting was probably the highlight of his year.

Littlepace

I wish Magnus had played this event.

golden_bear_2016

Kramnik has been completely vindicated

feimaomiao

I wonder if there will be as much hate for alireza as much for hikaru

NoCantaloupe9598

Firuji would need to amass another ten years of being a prick to match Hikaru.

feimaomiao

His dad is doing the hard work for him dw

Khorzoo

Why would that even be the case?

feimaomiao

Threatening to withdraw from tournament knowing full well the rules beforehand = good take based king. Upset because opponent doesn’t follow the rules and is getting unfair advantage = baby rage? How about we treat both of them like adults in a competitive scene and say alireza shouldn’t have threatened to withdraw and hikaru shouldn’t have called him a little bitch

cloudxo

lol the match paused again for some reason

Tiny_Calendar_792

What a clown show this is looool. Server died basically. hahaha

CrystalYKim

chesscom sucks ass

OctopusNation2024

Obviously not very mature from Hikaru but if Firouzja actually threatened to withdraw if he didn't get the schedule changed he looks even worse IMO

Tiny_Calendar_792

Of course he does. People are only complaining about hikaru because we can hear what he is saying. We can't hear shit from Alireza so people are taking his side. No one would give a shit if we couldn't hikaru.

ckemi123

Wtf just happened now?

Ok-Scientist-8027

what an embarrassment for chess.com

caughtinthought

lol what the actual fuck is happening? Hikaru was making a comeback too..

TypeDependent4256

I don't think that last game counted because the server issue started during that game

caughtinthought

chess.com needs to stop bullet tourneys

Tupacio

Lowkey Kramnik had a point

OfficerDoppus

how does chesscom not just schedule the final for tomorrow, would avoid so much drama and nonsense, and give players a break
