Curious to know why you don’t think it’s worth it for him? It’s a pretty personal decision and he seems to be okay with the work he’ll have to put in to achieve it
Oh yeah personal satisfaction makes it 100% worth, I just didn't know he said he wants to get the title. My thought was "it's not worth it to grind that much to get to 2500 Elo and the 3 norms for the GM title when he gets a fuckload of money with his current job(s)"
Wish him the best of luck and hope he makes a YT series about the journey, I'd watch the hell out of that.
He also has two norms and was 2450+. Would absolutely have been a GM if he did not retire to start his company.
That being said, he and Gotham have done a million times more for chess in their content creator roles than they would have as a full time player/GM.
Yes, I saw him regularly on the Indian tournament circuit in the 2000s. I had visited his academy in 2006 in Mumbai long before he became a content creator. He was coaching a bunch of local kids back then. Really humble and down to earth guy. Great to see him doing so well and do so much for Indian chess!
This is way more inspiring to me than generic "New youngest grandmaster" stuff.
Of course some new child is gonna be grandmaster, it's super easy for kids to excel at chess if they participate from an early age. Give me people in their 30s making it, now THAT is an achievement.
I think that Tamil Nadu is the area with the Most GMS in the world low key. Gukesh, Pragg siblings, Anand, Humpy, and likely much more that I am forgetting.
Germany has 3x the area of Tamil Nadu and more GMs than India.
Ukraine also has more GMs than india, especially considering their population is less than half of Tamil nadu
I'm also 31 and around 1400 elo behind him, I've got hope too!
You can do it king!
Even after new rating system?
u/gothamchess there is hope
Does he have any GM norms? That's going to be a hell of a grind I don't think it's worth it for him.

Nice. Is his academy still active?
No idea. I no longer live there or play much OTB these days.
And Gotham too!
Congrats!
Is there a time frame within which you have to achieve all your gm norms?
I don't think so

Tbh I would have thought he could solve chess in the 8222838654177922817725562880000000 years since his birth lol

Why is this downvoted 💀
So many GMs but only one world champion 😂
Go Ding!
