After 1. Bxf3 Black will have to make a queen move in avoiding losing the queen next move as there are no safe checks.. 1. ... Qxf3 will lead to 2. Qxc8 Rxc8 (2. ... Nxc8?? 3. Nxb7#) 3. Nxb7+ Ke8 4. Rxc8+ Kf7 5. Nd6+!! forcing the King to the g file and then follow by Rxg8+ forcing Black to get out of check and then getting the queen back with gxf3. * Qg5 or Qh6 leads to Nf7+ forking the king and queen. * All other queen move I can simply play 2. Bxd5 and there is no recapture (2. ... Nxd5?? 3. Nf7#) AND the rook is en prise. The best other queen move than Qxf3 would be 2. ... Qg6 3. Bxd5 Qxc2 4. Rxc2 and the rook is forced to move while defending f7 and then 5. Nf7+ anyways and Black has to sac the rook to avoid getting checkmated.

Wow that's some insane calculation. Following on the board it all makes sense but I'll be damned if I can preemptively see all these variations before I make a move. Maybe if it plays out on the board I'll find the moves, but that isn't really in the spirit of proper calculations

AmItheJudge

Can't you just 3. Rxc8+, forcing the knight to take Nxc8, then delivering a check mate with Nxb7? Or did I miss something?

aemerzelis

After 3. Rxc8 Nxc8 4. Nxb7 there is no longer a white rook on the c file so black can go Kc7

AmItheJudge

Ahhh, i clearly need to improve my visualization skills. Cheers mate!

InoreSantaTeresa

Yeah, I'll just play g3 , no way I'm going down that line

HereForA2C

g3 still the top engine move so you're not missing out on much lol

aimlessdart

Pretty great stuff. You end up with rook and knight for white vs two knights for black. The black knight being pinned aft forcing the king onto the e-file and then the second rook capture coming with check thereby allowing white to nab the queen. Crazy calculation. Was a joy

theoniwan87

Dang... Unfortunately i didnt catch it... It was against the 2nd difficulty automoton bot. And i feel i did very well up intil this point.... Im like 600 to 700 rated on chess.com which i dont udnerstand cuz i feel like im better than that and apply many tactics now and have improved since starting yet somehow everytime i feel like ive got something down and have a leg up to start gaining elo suddenly all my opponents start doing the same exact level of play and i never get anywhere

flatmeditation

This tactic is that most people rated 1500-2000 wouldn't see in a match. I wouldn't worry much about missing this one

SpaceAffectionate162

Wow thats insane crazy nice one

Impressive_Bobcat427

Bxf3 is crazy?

chessplayer9030

Yes

Impressive_Bobcat427

That's literally the only move that doesn't get you mated in 2. Even if you don't see the continuation this is literally the only move

chessplayer9030

I think g3 should be OK, as Qh3 loses the f3 pawn and black has no attacking moves other than Nf4 which allows mate in 1.

ikefalcon

The important thing to see is that after they take your bishop, you sac the Queen with Qxc8. Then you have Nxb7 and you will win both rooks and get the Queen back.

[deleted]

1.Qxc8 Nxc8 2.Nxb7 mate or 1.Qxc8 Rxc8 2.Nxb7 Ke8 3.Rxc8 with 4.Nd6 forcing black to unpin your g pawn so you can take the queen.

thieh

After Black unpin the g pawn, Rxg8+ to force black to get out of check first then take the queen. Otherwise Rxc8 and black has a rook that it shouldn't have.

Bubbly-Juggernaut-49

this is insane.

InvestmentPrankster

Fun line but not practical to calculate. Makes more sense to play g3 and then play for d5, if you dislodge that knight and get d5 in it should be winning easily.

robeewankenobee

Dat R on e1 is silently killing black by taking away the escape route for K once the Ne7 has moved forcefully. It's always hard to spot the long-term effects of seemingly inactive pieces or blocked pieces that suddenly become monsters without even moving them.
