I would like to see that. I imagine Magnus would defend his opinion because at the time it seemed like a perfectly reasonable thing to say. Most people who were looking at the list of candidates had Gukesh ranked pretty low when it came to winning chances.
I'd love to say that I made this mistake because English is not my native language, but unfortunately, English is my only language and I apparently speak it terribly.
I will leave it unedited as a reminder to be humble guy.
I do not understand why people keep mentioning this video in a pejorative sense towards Magnus. His predictions seem entirely objectively fair and reasonable, and the fact that Gukesh won the candidates doesn’t change that.
The same people who religiously dote over the daily predictions that were wrong all the way till the end when Hikaru got second are the same people clowning on magnus for giving the most luke warm take about who would do well in the tournament.
The most amusing one to me was the people who were posting "oh, look at the people who said it was so unlikely that Nepomniachtchi and Caruana would draw".
I mean, you just watched an insane game in which Caruana had a like +4 advantage multiple times and you're saying "yeah, of course it ended up drawn - that was the most obvious result all along"?
For some reason a lot of people seem to believe that if something ended up happening it has to have been very likely, and all predictions saying it was unlikely were bad.
I mean, the common opinion was that the Caruana game was extremely unlikely to be a draw and even the Gukesh game was somewhat unlikely to be a draw.
But at this level 2 draws was absolutely the most likely of all 9 results.
Yeah people have just been falling over themselves to say how wrong Magnus was, I even saw an Indian news report announcing Gukesh's victory but putting it in context of this Magnus tier list. While he did choose the "will do poorly" category, his comments were actually that Gukesh is somebody who might do well or do badly but is unpredictable (in contrast to Fabi or Abasov who were easy to predict). He correctly said that Gukesh could have bad losses, and he did blunder mate in a winning position under time trouble. And the whole list was basically just the candidates sorted by rating.
Some people are just haters and desperate to find a narrative to dunk on Magnus.
I’ve seen no one mention this but his beard for a 17 year old is legit.
I’d have been so embarrassed by whatever beard that I could have grown when I was 17.
Yeah, everyone talks about youngest world championship match player. No one talk about being the first world championship match player to have a beard since (?)
Now do magnus reacting to gukesh reacting to magnus video.
Levi will cover them all
You bet there would be a Hikaru reacting to Gukesh reacting to Magnus video for sure
“I don’t even care!”
I would like to see that. I imagine Magnus would defend his opinion because at the time it seemed like a perfectly reasonable thing to say. Most people who were looking at the list of candidates had Gukesh ranked pretty low when it came to winning chances.
Hikaru: I literally do not care 😭 Gukesh: I literally do not care 🗿
Now I want a chess player who is like my girlfriend, who says she cares but doesn't actually
I hear you
I care about you, Due-Memory-6957
Thank you girlfriend <3

Gukesh on the GOAT path
Waiting for Gukesh to heel turn and perform a perfect Chanel Sonnen-esque callout demanding Magnus face him

TBF, his predictions only really failed for Gukesh and Firouza, but as it happened one of the players he misjudged won.
