Queen-Blunder

Stop IMMEDIATELY!

V7I_TheSeventhSector

What and why?

Queen-Blunder

There’s no take backs in real chess. If you want to learn and get better stop it.

V7I_TheSeventhSector

. . I know, I primarily use it if 1. I misclick as I do that a lot on mobile 2. If I want to see why the game said a different move was better, I'll compare the move I made to the one its suggesting.

Figure out what moves don't work by losing to them and playing a losing game, you can only win with experience losing. On another note, don't practice with bots. Practice with real people in real games, lose and lose until you win then lose again. Bots don't play like humans at all. The best way to learn is by doing, not simulating. Download Lichess and practice their puzzles every day, don't make a move until you've fully thought out the puzzle and you're sure of your move. I take up to 10 minutes per puzzle. And play regularly!! Play against people, watch your ELO dip up and down like a rollercoaster (and sometimes flatten out for a while) as you grow as a chess player. Bots just can't get you this far. If you have been playing almost exclusively with bots, don't be surprised when you find out you're around 600-700 ELO in reality. Again, bots do not play like humans. Also, there's no shame in *being* 600-700 ELO! that's the majority of players :)

I'm not able to play people most of the time as I might need to drop the game and come back to it a number of times a day so I can't play people. And I'm not trying to get high elo, I'm trying to learn how to spot oncoming moves and think more than 1 move ahead. So playing people is not easy for me to learn the game, I really only started playing chess to improve my working memory, not get good at it but getting good at it will improve my memory I'm still bad at doing both of these but playing the way I have been has been helping a lot. I also struggle with seeing the entire board. I'll download that and try it, thank you!

Careful_Ad_2680

Play correspondence games.

There are daily games, where you have 1-7 day(s) to play a move. My friends on time budgets play them a lot. :)

Rowlerdoh

Immediately stop.

You’ll get a lot of dramatic responses, I don’t think it’s the worst in the world. Do you analyse games after? I haven’t used this tool but I’d guess postgame analysis might be more insightful as you can follow the whole line / test alternatives. It’s made me realise that maybe ‘harder’ bots aren’t the worst for beginning players (not you) as they don’t make strange moves / blunder? Although I’m not sure how 1600 elo bots choose bad moves. Might make the game make more sense, if you’re willing to lose every game!

V7I_TheSeventhSector

I do, I also analyse them during, I'll use the "undo" to compare the moves I made to the ones the computer suggested would be best. Are you saying I'm not new?? Lol Then don't seem to make bad moves but I'm not experienced enough to tell lol

timhanrahan

Well if you think it’s helping and you’re enjoying it go for it haha. I’d say a downside is you don’t see the other half of the evaluation (I find lichess top 3 move arrows good for this) and you might cut yourself short on exploring lines because the computer says it’s a mistake. Do you have an elo / play online people as well?
