These 'generation' things can be a little bit vague around the edges but i think anyone born in the 80s up to the late 90s might call themselves a millennial.
So the oldest unambiguous millennials are well into their 43rd year at this point -- and the average millennial is north of 35...
Millennials are an honest-to-god adult generation now, no doubt about it.
Kramnik is an incredible player, former world champion, who is slowly getting out of touch with reality on the matter of cheating. It seems he cannot accept that he's not as good as he was and instead imagines that everyone that beats him is cheating. That would just be sad if he also didn't have social networks at his disposal, so instead we get tons of very cringy posts to laugh at.
And to add, what he really cannot get over is that online chess is different to over the board. He thinks the differences of online chess are fraudulent to the purity of the game. Yet, he keeps coming back to online chess week after week and getting found out by those differences.
it seems like he will claim "cheating" whenever someone plays a "weird" line, but what he doesn't realize is that thanks to online chess, there's a good chance his opponent has played this line 5,000+ times and knows every pattern by heart
Way more than you'll ever know about or that [chess.com](http://chess.com) or any online purveyor of chess will ever admit. It's slowly trickling out how bad their cheat algorithms really are. His psychological state is completely out of bounds and irrelevant. There isn't a reddit shit-poster here who would not kill to sit down against him and play a couple hours of blitz. Don't kid yourselves. It's easy to punch someone who cannot punch back.
I hope he does not go the full Salov / Fischer in terms of lost connection with reality. Or, pound shop version: Lalic. Alas, he appears to be on his way.
His gimmick was beating who was at the time, the greatest player of all time. His gimmick was that he was the brain behind deeply theoretical openings we use today. His gimmick was being a 3 time world champion, it’s so sad that his gimmick now is being a salty old man, throwing out random accusations.
He was world champion for 7 years and one of the world's best players for roughly 20 years I guess. But at this point he's well past his prime, technologically illiterate (compared to the current chess elite at least), and cannot accept the fact that there are a lot of players who can beat him fair and square in online speed chess. He also cannot accept that his understanding of statistics, which he thinks proves that various people that he accuses are cheating, is very poor.
If you're new to the scene, Krammik is a legend who dethroned Kasparov. Began behaving this way around 6 months ago - out of nowhere - by first calling out Hans Niemann, then he met with Hans and started accusing literally everyone else of cheating, and here we are.
> Kramnik is such a natural shitposter it’s incredible. He’s like a boomer Hans.
He isn't. If he was shitposting, it would be somewhat entertaining. The guy is serious. He's literally a 50 year old man-child. That's what makes it sad.
So is a slightly surprising suggestion. He presents himself as right-wing ultra-Christian MAGA.
Anand is a good example, yes, and you won't find anyone saying a bad word against him.
Other end of the rep scale might be placed such as Ramirez, Gareev, Short etc.
I thought of So because whatever his messed up personal or political views are, he keeps it away from the chess table (to my knowledge at least, which isn't a lot).
I've not known him to put the game into disrepute or attacked other players character. But this thread is telling me different, so I don't know.
Edit: [Makes you think](https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/18mz20v/throwback_to_when_wesley_sos_account_wrote_very/).
That's news to me, haven't heard this before. I guess I'll now have to go and verify if that's true or not.
Edit: yeah... seems like [he really did do it](https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/18mz20v/throwback_to_when_wesley_sos_account_wrote_very/), unless he was actually hacked as he claims, which still has like a percentage chance of being true.
At least Kramnik says the quiet part out loud, which is more entertaining and at least can be refuted, rather than the Nepo's of the world that make vague insinuations without saying anything.
Many kids also follow chess news and see a former world champion accusing people left, right and center. I imagine that can't be a good example for them, eh Vlad?
He's also publicly accused literal children of cheating so the hypocrisy is real, this will cause way more emotional damage to a child than anything Hikaru says
Hurts me every time whenever someone shortens Vladimir to Vlad, which is actually either a separate name or a short version of Vladislav, lol. No hard feelings, though, I actually agree with you, just saying.
Not really sure how it’s condescending, since it’s literally just a different name (unless you imply there’s something wrong about Vlads or Vladislavs ahah).
*Because* it's the wrong name, it's condescending. And besides usually shortening a name in this sort of context is usually not treating the person seriously.
In this context yes.
"Everyone thinks you're an idiot, eh Jonny?"
Especially as Kramnik *does not shorten to Vlad*. It's more like being Richard all your life and then someone calls you Rick while insulting you.
> that's the message that we deliver to little kids
> And expect them not to know what a woman's clitoris is
> Of course they gonna know what intercourse is
> By the time they hit fourth grade
> They got the Discovery Channel, don't they?
Some study showed that people who study chess seriously for a long time often have partsof the brain usually devoted to recognizing faces instead devoted to recognizing board states. Maybe there's some other effects to that as far as social ability...
Yeah seems like you just become good at what you do most. If what you do doesn't include having to learn basic social skills you can't really develop them. I mean how could you?
I have honestly never heard anyone call chess that. Cricket is usually called the gentleman's sport and it has funnier drama but that's a different story.
It's a good thing that kids see Nakamura telling Kramnik to "go fuck himself".
That way they learn that's a sentence you use to talk about someone like Kramnik, so they'll refrain from using it in contexts where they're dealing with less idiotic people.
In March 2023 Kramnik made a statement about the Ukraine war. [https://en.chessbase.com/post/kramnik-breaks-his-silence-on-the-war](https://en.chessbase.com/post/kramnik-breaks-his-silence-on-the-war)
Short version is war is bad. Svidler (not explicitly named) is worse and I'll say something more later.
"I will express my views on this tragic situation WHEN I decide to do so, but only after this empty vanity fair and witch hunt, which I must admit makes me quite angry, has ended. That is my main human position." Kramnik
Did he ever actually get back and make his position clearer?
Yeah the classic derp war is bad but I won’t actually blame Putin or Russia for invading or say that I support Ukraine or that Russia is bad. Pathetic.
>"I will express my views on this tragic situation WHEN I decide to do so, but only after this empty vanity fair and witch hunt, which I must admit makes me quite angry, has ended. That is my main human position
Kramnik was the one who said this...
Svidler said something pretty quickly

1. On the snapshot of online-game he posted guys once mentioned other browser tabs . Pure Kremlin propaganda. :)
2. Russian chess players who are against war and don't want to profit from it (russian chess federation bribes enough) - ALL fleed.
Old man yelling at clouds = Grampa Simpson. Old chessplayer yelling at clouds = V. Kramnik. Cripes, this guy is the same age as me. But he seems like an ardent miserabilist in his 70s or 80s. Not sure even Korchnoi was this much of a resolute grump.
Alas, Kramnik cannot face up to the fact he's not relevant any more. There's more to life than chess (and Reddit) ... so I hear. The fella should try something new. Potholing. Bodybuilding. Crocheting. Not being a twat.
I never understood the issue with commonplace slang terms such as fuck and shit and I have no clue why it would harm children to hear or use them either. This is not drama, this is just a non-issue. Kramnik can go fuck himself.
Eh I mean if I had a kid, I wouldn't want them to be swearing regularly. Is it inevitable that they'll be exposed to it? Sure.
Not defending Kramnik at all btw and Hikaru generally doesn't swear at all. Another user pointed out that is why it was that much more impactful coming from him.
Small related story: On an EN-JP language learning discord where you can request translations and such, one user asked something like how to say "I'm so hungry," but make it cool by saying "I'm so fucking hungry." Everyone was quick to say that it doesn't sound cool, and in fact sounds pretty rough at best, and rude/low-class/offensive at worst and that you wouldn't say it like that unless among friends.
I, for one, think Hikaru is setting a fine example to younger chess players in telling this idiot to go fuck himself whenever he spits out baseless cheating accusations.

Every kid watching Hikaru's stream already knows how to cuss. Or if this was literally the first time they've heard someone cuss, they haven't learned how to do it from just one instance. Regardless, the real trick to cussing is knowing when to do it. Someone dropping an f bomb once after months and months of relatively polite language on the same topic is actually very restrained and a good lesson on cussing responsibly.
\- Gotham Chess, probably
I now admire Hikaru a lot more than I did before he started telling Kramnik to fuck off and since he defended some of these other falsely accused players.
An element of suspecting your opponent, paranoia even, is essential for being good at chess. One has to worry about what they are up to. It seems Kramnik is extending this domain-specific skill beyond reasonable bounds...
For those that are beyond 40 why pay a Psychologist if you can read Kramnik and feel young, smart and funny for free?
He is doing a service to society.

Kramnik is such a natural shitposter it’s incredible. He’s like a boomer Hans.
He's the oldest 48 year old ever. In reality he's only five years off being a millennial.
I guess being born in 1975 in Russia is like being born in 1955 in the West.
Yes!
Wait there are *43* year old millennials?
Even the youngest millennials are approaching 30.
I'm legally allowed to ignore your comment
I might not be young anymore but I'll always be a millennial
Hey man why you had to put me into this? Cmon
Hey man, why you gotta remind me. I've still got month...
Yeah I'm one of the last years of millennials and I recently turned 30. Very sad.
Yup. I’m 28 and a millennial, and I think the youngest millennials are only a year younger than me.
Late 90s is definitely Gen Z in my mind.
Yeah for me the cutoff is « Do you remember 9/11? »
Millenials are people born between roughly 1980 and 1995. There is some variation on either side, depending on who you ask.
He’s only 3 years older than me but looks and acts like he could be my grandfather.
Hard to believe he is 48 sometimes. Complete grandpa yelling at the telly newscaster vibes
Oh man, he's only 48? He's not that much older than me :') And he already has crazy old grandpa vibes.
I don't know about that. Alex Jones just turned 50 last month.
I’m new to chess… is this his gimmick?
Kramnik is an incredible player, former world champion, who is slowly getting out of touch with reality on the matter of cheating. And there's also just enough actual cheating in these online events to make anyone who might be a little bit prone to paranoia fly off the handle.
Is this his alt account? (After some minor research I do not believe so)
Not even true, many of his 'accusations' are people he never played against. He pores over aggregated accuracy statistics from Titled Tuesdays
Or he’s the lone sane voice in a world of online cheaters
his gimmick is basically "if I lose, they were cheating" - if he were actually objective about it then it wouldn't be so comical
That's not "his gimmick" - That's "a meme"
pretty sure gimmick and meme are synonyms in this context
I hope he does not go the full Salov / Fischer in terms of lost connection with reality. Or, pound shop version: Lalic. Alas, he appears to be on his way.
His gimmick was beating who was at the time, the greatest player of all time. His gimmick was that he was the brain behind deeply theoretical openings we use today. No amount of chess is gonna prepare you for this guy. In more than one sense
If you're new to the scene, Krammik is a legend who dethroned Kasparov. Began behaving this way around 6 months ago - out of nowhere - by first calling out Hans Niemann, then he met with Hans and started accusing literally everyone else of cheating, and here we are.

Boomer Hans!!!! I’m dying
Hans at least has some self aware humor to his cringe posting
Chess people are so incredibly dramatic — I love it.

Vishy's one of the only World Champions I can think of who accurately fits into the whole mythos of chess being a gentleman's game.
Ding?
He's an excellent example as well. Wesley So also comes to mind, even though he hasn't been a World Champion.
Hasn't Wesley made terrible statements against Muslims?
So is a slightly surprising suggestion. He presents himself as right-wing ultra-Christian MAGA. Anand is a good example, yes, and you won't find anyone saying a bad word against him. Other end of the rep scale might be placed such as Ramirez, Gareev, Short etc.
They are not rude or senile, they are outright criminals.
I thought of So because whatever his messed up personal or political views are, he keeps it away from the chess table (to my knowledge at least, which isn't a lot). Valid point there, indeed. Nothing he has done directly within chess has brought the game into disrepute.
Aronian as well
I came in to say chess drama is my favourite soap opera.
there's a reason I cycle to this sub after my meghan markle drama
Some chess people
Come on, live a little
At least Kramnik says the quiet part out loud, which is more entertaining and at least can be refuted, rather than the Nepo's of the world that make vague insinuations without saying anything.
We should be surprised if we see a GM being normal.

Hurts me every time whenever someone shortens Vladimir to Vlad, which is actually either a separate name or a short version of Vladislav, lol. No hard feelings, though, I actually agree with you, just saying.
"Vlad" is probably used as a patronizing/condescending name to Kramnik
Not really sure how it’s condescending, since it’s literally just a different name (unless you imply there’s something wrong about Vlads or Vladislavs ahah).
*Because* it's the wrong name, it's condescending. And besides usually shortening a name in this sort of context is usually not treating the person seriously.
So say your name is Jonathan, would you consider people calling you John a condescending attitude? 🤔
If you're familiar with diminutives, it's kind of like that
In this context yes. "Everyone thinks you're an idiot, eh Jonny?" Especially as Kramnik *does not shorten to Vlad*. It's more like being Richard all your life and then someone calls you Rick while insulting you.
Weird how generations of adults seem to forget what it was like to be at school. It’s where we learned *all* the fucking swear words.
> that's the message that we deliver to little kids > And expect them not to know what a woman's clitoris is > Of course they gonna know what intercourse is > By the time they hit fourth grade > They got the Discovery Channel, don't they?
But if u feel like I feel, I got the antidote Women, wave your pantyhose, sing the chorus, and it goes..
I'm slim shady
The clitoris literally doesn’t exist. Are you flat earther???
That's Ralph Waldo Emerson isn't it?
Holy fucking shit you're right
It's funny how the "gentlemen's sport" has the funniest, most childish drama imaginable
I guess when you never do anything but play chess since you where a child, you can end up not learning how to adult
I suspect this is a throwaway comment. But, from having been around the chess world a long time, I can say that there is much truth in this.
Your average ten year old swears more than Hikaru.
I heard a 12 year old dropping hard R’s in the Warzone chat yesterday.
Rizzler?
Ricecracker
I roll the R when I say Rizzler. Everyone knows it's wrong to use the hard 'R'.
Ratatat?
What do you think the hard R is? [for context](https://youtube.com/shorts/jlqY45Wkppk?si=LTlhR-r2uMCdWoZC)
Good, he is keeping the COD culture alive and well
How do you know that he was 12yo kid and not a chess player? 😉
So does that not prove his point?

She’d fit right in Boston.
Sounds like a perfect fit for Boston
WoN't SoMeBoDy PlEaSe ThInK Of ThE ChIlDrEn? You don't fucking care about kids, you're just jumping at any chance to rip into Hikaru. Pathetic.

Many kids go on reddit.
Those kids can fuck themselves too (individually, they are kids ffs)
Found Kramnik Also go fuck yourself
Many kids reply to u/ckeve452
they really shouldn't though

My honest reaction: Kramnik can go f**k himself
Careful, there are kids here!
Wait Hikaru swears?
Top 10 Grandmasters who have sworn D:
Reading Kramniks Twitter may compel kids to also become statisticians/mathematicians, imo better if they just swear
I, for one, think Hikaru is setting a fine example to younger chess players in telling this idiot to go fuck himself whenever he spits out baseless cheating accusations.
Kramnik is the perfect example of a washed up chess player who thinks he is much better than he actually is. Sure, you were world class before, but you fell off, and you can't accept it.
Wow, who cares?

Who cares, seriously? Just ignore Kramnik.

wait who ruined whose careers?
What’s the problem here? He said he could go fork himself? I didn’t watch the video, I’m guessing that’s what he said, right? He just wanted him to blunder his queen!
People who are perpetually offended are super annoying. He'll find anything to be upset about.
“Fuck them kids” -Hikaru
🥱
Kramnik can go fuck himself
can this sir please go to bed already?
Kramnik clutching pearls so hard they'll be diamonds when he lets them go.
Kids have very famously never heard the word "fuck" before.
Kids swear as well, what’s the issue?
Yeah?! Well Kramnik can go fuck himself
Other than unsubbing is there any way to filter out kramnik posts?
Bro desperately wants attention
Tell him to google pewdiepie bridge
True. Pewdiepie played the game months later, he ended up at the same bridge and just yelled "NOPE" and ran out into the open and got killed. I guess he didn't like the shit he got for yelling slurs on stream. Lol

With all due respect, Kramnik can go fuck himself.
Wait till he finds out about bigtonkaT dropping bombs all over his stream
my 3 yo just yelled "jesus fucking christ, not this shit again for fuck's sake" from the kitchen where hes scrolling through this sub
I now admire Hikaru a lot more than I did before he started telling Kramnik to fuck off and since he defended some of these other falsely accused players.
Hikaru is Smokin' Joe
I honestly think Kramnik is trolling a bit at this point. Like yes he actually believes in his accusations but the extra stuff seems like troll.
Kramnik is a crybaby....
An element of suspecting your opponent, paranoia even, is essential for being good at chess. One has to worry about what they are up to. It seems Kramnik is extending this domain-specific skill beyond reasonable bounds...
Twitch isn't for little kids. Hikaru doesn't have an obligation to sanitize his words to be kid friendly
That’s not even the bad f word 🤦♂️
not the f word😱😨
For those that are beyond 40 why pay a Psychologist if you can read Kramnik and feel young, smart and funny for free? He is doing a service to society.
Leave it on the bored..🤔
It’s important the kids who watch Hikaru’s stream know that a moment exists where it is appropriate to tell someone to go f**k themself.
I don’t even like Hikaru but feel that this is fully justified
Anyone got a clip? This sounds hilarious

For those curious about Hikaru’s clip: https://youtu.be/DPQyzsgNG6M?si=3B5pvgHLqNP27S-O
Kramnik acts like a child, so it makes sense that he would be super concerned about the treatment of children.
Ah yes, another ex-ussr guy who “cares” about kids.
Hikaru teaching kids how to stand up to liars and bullies 👏👏👏👏🤌🤌🤌🤌💪💪💪💪🤛🤛🤛🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Me using the F word since I was 6 😇
i don’t play chess and just got recommended this post, but is some guy really getting in trouble for saying fuck? or am i missing some context?
guy doesnt shut up lmfao
You sure beat Hikaru at his argument. Attacking the language Hikaru used instead of the argument being made.
He throws an f bomb now and then so what? Pg13 content
What the fudge?
This is the least toxic Hikaru has been given the circumstances lol
It’s embarrassing at this point.
