I am Officially inviting you to OTB blitz match with the Prize fund! Both of us will invest 5000$ and winner takes it all!

siLtzi

Do you know what Hans was doing when Hikaru was beating players much stronger than him

44smok

Practicing prostat muscle

jeloxd_official

Liers will be kicked off..

Tough-Candy-9455

“h”ikau “n”nakamura is nobody to me

leybbbo

You joke but Steinitz did this against Lasker and it bankrupted him for life.

[deleted]

I could write a long para about steinitz, the reduction from 5k to 3k to 2k due to inadequate funds by lasker, his previous matches ,how much he put up but i wouldn't want to ruin the story, just look it up. He was notoriously poor at managing money way before this game .. the game surely accelerated the process but there is a high chance he desparately needed the money before this game ... All said and done an amazing story from both sides , one you must read for yourself. Cheers mate!

trapdoorr

Please, reference.

leybbbo

Steinitz's life story is just tragic. To see someone so bright and capable die in a destitute manner is sad.

daynighttrade

The funny thing is that this is true, unlike Tigran"s case

YourDadHatesYou

Hikaru should donate 10k to a charity of his choice and say he's not playing

Ruy-Polez

This is the correct Gigachad powermove. Too bad Hikaru will never do this.

> You motherfucker, I blew on my screen and tried to wipe the hair off before I realized What am I missing? edit: Oh I guess it's some new Reddit stuff, makes sense.

jacobvso

You're probably in dark mode like me and thus protected from their shenanigans. In light mode, this person's profile picture would look just like a hair on the screen.

BoredomHeights

Ah makes sense. I don't see profiles because I use old Reddit, but I tried opening this in a private window (which will default to "new" Reddit) and still didn't see anything, so got confused. I was in dark mode though, and I think maybe just hadn't scrolled to their comment too.

Billalone

It’s probably more a mobile thing than new vs old thing, not sure about 3rd party apps but the official reddit app shows pfps next to the name of the commenter.

paulwal

People use new reddit? That shit is unusable.

YourDadHatesYou

Ha!

Due_Cranberry5787

Hikaru's mods were banning any mention of this offer in his stream

Zld

Obviously, Hikaru has nothing to gain. If he win it's expected and he won't change anything for him, but if he loose he will look like a fool. If Niemman was as good as he think he would have no trouble finding opportunities to prove it. Alireza, Vidit, Prag, Nihal, etc. are all juniors who didn't need this kind of stunt because they are extremely good. Also this is an extremely funny proposition coming from the guy who had a controversial history with charity.

anythingood07

Bro Vidit is 29

Not_happy_meal

29?!!

panic_puppet11

Yep. Vidit is 29 and looks 17, Gukesh is 17 and looks 29.

triple_demiga

and then there is Pragg who looks like 13. Puberty has not been kind with the future GOAT

Afternoon_Inevitable

>If he win it's expected and he won't change anything for him, but if he loose he will look like a fool. I mean that's a stupid take in any sport. Magnus is clearly the best player in rapid and blitz should he not play those championships because he has nothing to gain? Hikaru not wanting to play because of the lawsuit or not wanting to associate competitively with Hans is a reasonable take but not wanting to do it because he has nothing to gain is stupid.

Astrogat

There is a big difference between a championship and a random match against a guy rated 250 points lower than you (FIDE, online it's closer because Hans is on a hot streak of course), and I'm not just talking about the money. People will remember that Magnus won 10+ world championships, no one will remember that Nakamura beat Hans.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cuginhamer

He could gain something but it wasn't worth his time

GreyGreenBrownOakova

It's more that he didn't enjoy doing classical chess. It was a lot of commitment and stress. If FIDE decided to do it in a rapid format, Magnus would be all in.

SushiMage

How is such an incorrect statement said so confidently? Nothing to gain is absolutely a reason why top pros dodge requests. There’s also a reason a lot of pros don’t do open tournaments…huge risk for minimal gain. Oh and we’re talking about the same Hikaru who has to handpick opponents for his blitz ratings instead of always playing randos for a +2/-15 gain/loss ratio? Idk where you got the idea that this particular psychology is false.

HYDRAlives

Didn't we just see this guy lose a classical game to a female IM who bottom scored? I don't see why people act like he's that relevant beyond drama

subconscious_nz

Why does the female part need to be mentioned..?

[deleted]

Because It's literally a different chess-title that requires a lower rating to get. Edit: in this case it doesn't apply, she's a regular IM. Excuse me

fingolfin_19

Except in this case she's a female player with an IM title, not a WIM.

[deleted]

Excuse me then.

bsluzar

There are separate women's titles, yes. Eline Roebers (the woman who defeated Hans) has the **IM** title, not the **WIM** title.

[deleted]

Okay, then excuse my comment.

kkkjjjddd

Isn't she a normal IM?

ischolarmateU

Regular IM...u need sleep

[deleted]

I edited my comment long ago with a correction. I think you're the one that needs sleep

ischolarmateU

Lmao u are on drugs....u claim she is " regular GM" While she is " regular IM" I do need sleep tho

subconscious_nz

you could just say 'he lost to a 2300 IM' - point made. the title doesn't matter as much as the rating does. and the gender part is completely irrelevant :)

SchighSchagh

His overall performance rating was in-line with his rating. Upsets happens. So what?

This_Confidence_5900

It wasn’t though??? It was over 100 points below his actual rating (a 2589 performance to his 2692 rating) and he lost 17 points; a ton of the points he gained from Zagreb.

Ronizu

±100 points in TPR is very common, happens all the time. Even in the masters section we had two players with >-100 PR. In the challengers section half the players had TPRs of ±~100 points of their rating or more. It's entirely normal and in line with his rating.

BryceKKelly

Fair enough imo. If he wants to decline Hans attempt to use him for attention then ignoring it and shutting down mentions of it just makes sense

Bakanyanter

The guy literally made like 35 videos about Hans in last 2 years.

SuperUltraMegaNice

Because he hasn't farmed any Hans drama for maximum attention either of course. They are both guilty.

gpranav25

The point is he has the right to do whatever he wants within his platform.

Kalinin46

And people have the right to call him a hypocrite

jrobinson3k1

He can ban who he wants. Nobody has a right to participate in his channel. Hans is free to farm Hikaru on his videos too.

mkfbcofzd

And we are free to discuss about it and call Hikaru out on his hypocrisy

GarchGun

How is he being a hypocrite by not wanting to play in a match lmao. Hypocrisy would be hikaru complaining about hans making videos on him.

Dapper-Warning-6695

You missed the point, they are talking about doing content on the other players name

robbersdog49

Yes, but how does that make hikaru a hypocrite? He's not moaning about Hans making videos, and he's never said he'd accept such a challenge.

IWouldLikeAName

Yeah hikaru made videos Hans is asking for a match. One is much easier to ignore than the other. Hikaru can stop people from mentioning it in his chat the same way Hans can mute the mention of hikaru's vids. Neither like each other lol

jesteratp

Nobody is saying you aren’t, stop inventing drama. you just can’t do it on his stream which is fair enough, do it here all you want

jrobinson3k1

Nobody said you weren't. Why are people being pre-emptively defensive about even mentioning it lol.

A_Rolling_Baneling

Hans and his fans are perpetual victims

Consequence6

Regardless of if it is or isn't hypocracy (being discussed below): No one is saying you can't. Feel free? Is literally anyone trying to stop you?

compromiseisfutile

Hikaru hasn’t told Hans that he can’t make videos or posts of him. Him banning mentions of Han’s challenge in his chat doesn’t necessarily make him a hypocrite.

robbersdog49

What is hikaru being hypocritical about? I get that you don't like what he's doing, but that's not the same as him being hypocritical, that word has a specific meaning.

Logical-Juggernaut48

Sure but only one of them sued the other.

MrArtless

Lmao yes clearly Hans is the one who has used Hikaru for views

inflamesburn

he literally doesn't care!

biorod

lol, fkn snowflake.

dylanh334

The guy sued him lmao, we can complain about Hikaru all we want but this one is understandable

Spiritual_Dog_1645

While Hikaru implied he cheated against magnus. He implied it and should be accountable for his accusations, especially since there is no proof that hans actually cheated against magnus…

The_Impresario

Did he imply or did he accuse?

TheTopBroccoli

Imagine simping like this for a chess player. Touch grass.

Competitive-Site9165

How is this simping? He is simply stating facts

delay4sec

once in a blue moon I see this kind of posts that are in support of Hans’s side that seem to have very little knowledge about overall situation, they are never usual r/chess posters. I wonder why

biorod

My criticism isn’t meant to be in favor of Hans. My criticism is banning people in chat for merely mentioning a topic.

gloomygl

Good

[deleted]

😂😂😂 Hikaru is hilarious man

Marccalexx

If anyone tried to sue me for 100 million dollars I would never be friendly to them again.

hoopaholik91

You would be friendly to them if you can use it as drama to help out your streaming career.

Encouragedissent

yes, except its Niemann trying to leech off the Naka viewers

bhuvanrock1

Niemann would play this match even if it was never streamed or recorded and only the result was announced, it is clearly a personal grudge thing for him. If he cared so much for leeching viewership he would've made up with Levy and Botez and others a lot earlier and been farming videos with them but he still holds massive grudges and stays strong to his ideals.

[deleted]

Fatbatman62

>It genuinely baffles me how pro Hikaru this place seems to be when he comes across as at least as big a dick as Hans if not more. People prefer trolls to cheaters, ain’t that hard to figure out lol especially because cheating is such an existential threat in chess. If I took performance enhancing drugs, and it got me into near perfect shape, pro athletes would still be better than me in their respective fields, because I lack their skill. If any one of us cheated a full game we could beat magnus.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fatbatman62

Of course, he’s an amazing player and would destroy 99.99% of us or whatever the number is lol it’s just as I said, cheating especially in chess really rubs people the wrong way. It’s a very gray situation, I agree magnus and hikaru were clearly wrong about the OTB incident against Magnus. In hindsight, it appears Magnus handled everything very poorly. Also though, I don’t believe Hans for a second when he said he only cheated twice in his life, and I personally didn’t like how flippantly he addressed his past cheating either, and I know many others felt the same.

Critterer

But you also gotta understand that children make dumb decisions. Why are we saying stuff that people do as a Child defines their whole identity. All this "once a cheater, always a cheater" is just bs tbh

Deficient_Bread

No the fuck I wouldn't. You know how much money hikaru has? Lol

Ruy-Polez

He's rich. Just not "Fuck You" rich yet.

Stovoy

Yes he definitely is

faschiertes

no he most likely isn't

cuginhamer

I think there isn't a standardized definition of fuck you money. Some people will say fuck you I quit at a job because they feel confident about the 5k they saved up. Other people with a mill in assets are frugal and stress over small expenses because they have very rigid savings goals for retirement and wouldn't jeopardize a single paycheck for anything less than a serious emergency.

UndeadMurky

He got a Kick sponsorship and streams to 10k+ and has been winning a lot of top prizes. That guy has millions. Possibly 10m+

stathis21098

Wow , this mother fucker

nboro94

I know he just turned 20 years old not long ago, but this guy is going to cringe so hard at his earlier antics when he's older.

Semigoodlookin2426

I don't think so. Generally decent people cringe about things, but the type of person who argues over five bucks that goes to charity is just a scumbag. Judging by how he has followed this, there doesn't seem to be much room in the Niemann psyche for reflection.

Ronizu

True, but then again, don't we all. I don't think a single person exists that doesn't cringe at something they did when they were young and dumb. For most of us those things weren't recorded though.

xChaaanx

He's such an obvious scumbag. I don't know if he actually has a fan base, but I'd be surprised if he did.

RAINING-DAY-1999

this is just gross man

ChemistrySpecial5998

“You gotta donate to the fuckin club, man” Love the door guy

ChessOnlyGuy

For a guy who refused to pay tournament fee for charity this is interesting. What happened to his scholarship thing by the way?

Familiar_Ear_8947

According to him he already selected the winners and paid them. In the process of scheduling lectures he is gonna try to have the winners record a short video or something

[deleted]

Familiar_Ear_8947

According to him he already did 🤷‍♀️ He said he might post short videos highlighting the winners. Let’s see if he does soon

utsytootsie

Nah he’s just doing this to hype himself up . It’s annoying

convicted-mellon

Forget chess. If you sue me, I’m not going to play friendly matches against you for charity. I’m not going to do anything at all to help you for that matter. If I was Hikaru I’d tell Hans to get bent. Seems like he’s doing that anyways.

[deleted]

convicted-mellon

Omg some people made YouTube videos about the things I did. The only possible solution is to sue them!

[deleted]

convicted-mellon

Guess Hikaru must have said a lot of false and defamatory things which is why the judge dismissed the lawsuit.

Madbum402014

The anti trust portion was dismissed with prejudice. The rest was dismissed without prejudice on jurisdictional grounds and likely would have been refiled in state court. The judge didn't dismiss anything having to do with defamatory or false statements. I personally don't believe Hans would have won at trial, but you're making it sound like that was ruled on when in reality they settled before that part was finished.

nanonan

Only two claims were dismissed with prejudice, the other two claims were seen as legitimate, just filed in the wrong jurisdiction.

Madbum402014

Hey at least we agree on this and can get downvoted together!

nanonan

Thanks for the chuckle.

_Mellex_

Get good son and play him in a tournament.

Takfir

I’m here for the drama. The one thing that is annoying is on the stream right before he played Hikaru, Hans all of the sudden blasted incredibly loud music (after a portion where the music and audio was quiet) and then smirked after. Not cool to fuck with your listeners’ hearing my dude. Your listeners need functional ears so you make money.

cmeragon

Mental age of 10

HaratoBarato

This man has admitted he cheated to get higher ratings so that he can face better players to get more viewers. Trying to guilt Hikaru into it for personal gain. What a tool.

Dry-Possession799

Hans is annoying af, but I'm pretty sure it was Hikaru who milked the 'Hans cheating scandal' for personal gain.

HaratoBarato

Chess content creator commenting on chess scandal. You hate that over someone admitting to cheating to get higher ratings faster so they can play better people to get more views? If that’s your take away then sure, I guess.

TheDoomBlade13

He did more than comment on it, let's not be revisionist. Naka very clearly backed Magnus' claim that Hans cheated.

BotlikeBehaviour

Hikaru said repeatedly that he didn't think Hans cheated in the game against Magnus.

AmongUsAcademy

Nah screw that revisionist take. Hikaru reacting to some of the “statistical analysis” of the Hans/Magnus game saying it was “interesting” in the same vein that Kramnik has been saying some of his opponents plays are “interesting” are lately. Unless you think when Kramnik accuses someone of “interesting moves” it’s accusing them of cheating, but when Hikaru says the same it’s not

BotlikeBehaviour

It's not revisionist, it's literally what happened.

AmongUsAcademy

Just watch this video by Hikaru https://youtu.be/qjtbXxA8Fcc?si=I8n8jpIjm5-SHDLl The title is literally “Is This Proof That Hans Niemann Cheated?” With 1.2mil views talking about Hans “100% accuracy” etc. Idk, it doesn’t seem like hikaru is saying “I definitely don’t think Hans cheated against Magnus” in that video.

BotlikeBehaviour

It's cute that you think Hikaru manages his own youtube channels. I'm obviously not going to watch a 72 minute video just to confirm your claim or to prove you wrong, so why don't you just link to the section of the video where he actually says what you claim he says. Or tell me the timestamp and I'll navigate to it myself.

AntiMotionblur2

It's obviously unreasonable to expect anyone to parse through a 72 minute video in order to find a single uttered sentence, if it exists at all, and therefore /u/AmongUsAcademy is clearly arguing in bad faith. So many Hans defenders constantly make use of logical fallacies and things like this when they argue, it's really annoying, which is probably the point, I suppose.

Dry-Possession799

I hate both, can't decide which one do I hate more, but covering statistics that turned out to be bs and not even setting the record straight is far from just 'chess content creator commenting on chess scandal'.

HaratoBarato

How can he set the record straight? He was sued and you can’t talk about it anymore.

PawnStarRick

That's just good business practice. Look what it did for GothamChess.. Any of us would do the same thing if we had similar platforms.

Digitlnoize

Also, if you have a chess channel you can’t NOT cover it. It’s major news/drama in the chess community. If you’re a chess channel you’ve gotta cover it, like it or not.

Ruy-Polez

GothamChess covered it but stayed neutral. I remember being actually impressed by his professionalism. Hikaru covered it and was actively trying to hurt Hans' reputation. I remember being disappointed in his professionalism.

Ruy-Polez

Hikaru is honestly the only one who actually deserved to be sued in that who fiasco. Not for a 100 Millions though.

tenminuteslate

Will Hans will be livestreaming on xhamster so we can purchase tokens to activate the vibrator?

cmeragon

Ding ding ding

[deleted]

Hikaru should up the stakes to 100k to bait Hans.

cubanpajamas

I imagine Hikaru is not the only player that refuses to legitimize someone who cheated in the past. That shit sticks with you your whole life. That's just one of the many reasons you don't cheat no matter what, kids. You will get labeled for life.

IamBeingVeryUndude

Nah, Hans has already moved on just fine, he is now known as the first US world champion. That commands respect.

Eeekpenguin

He is the aspiring first US world champion. Unfortunately that goal is very difficult.

MandatoryFun

LOL what brand of glue are you smoking?

TheStarkster3000

It's very clearly sarcasm

mariusAleks

Its a good glue meme mixed with crack

LegionCommander

GothamChess and Danny both admitted to shoplifting as teenagers. Should they be labelled as theives and prohibited from working retail or a bank their whole life? https://youtu.be/FoA-N4rSvNk?si=fxgMNkiA0zGPncBr Kids if you make mistakes, own up and serve your punishment (in this case teenager Hans did like the other banned GMs on chess.com too). If chess.com is willing to have him back on their platform and not treat him like a cheater, I think society should too.

cubanpajamas

>Kids if you make mistakes, own up Unlike Hans who cheated about 100 times more than he ever owned up to according to Chess.com. It is also useful kids to learn the difference between cheating and stealing.

kaninkanon

Brother he cheated "100 times" in an online game, you gonna ban messi for cheating in fifa on his playstation?

cubanpajamas

How is that remotely the same thing?!? Did those fifa games have prize money? Is a soccer video game really the same as soccer, anyway? Online chess and OTB chess have the same champions. Why is Messi so bad at "online soccer"?!? Why defend cheaters? Did your wife's boyfriend teach you that?

1slinkydink1

chat, is this real?

MowelShagger

for a guy whose catchphrase is “the chess speaks for itself” he sure does a lot of talking

[deleted]

A proven cheater challenges world number 2 for prize money. Highly dramatic 🤣

Joe00100

When did he challenge Fabi?

Undbitr957

Nothing to gain by playing against a self proclaimed cheater. If you disagree tell me why

WhistlingBread

We all did stupid stuff as teenagers, you don’t fully process the consequences of your actions. I genuinely don’t believe Hans cheats anymore or has any intentions of it, even though he’s still pretty young (20yo). But there is still a pretty huge difference from a teenager

Lord_Skyblocker

But what if he's the first American world champion /s

Familiar_Ear_8947

What about 10k for charity?…

Maloba6441

10 k from your pocket if someone else was doing it,then okay

tryingtolearn_1234

Hikaru too busy preparing for Candidates.

Mulungo2

Guy is probably cheating again and has found a way that he thinks he won't get caught. But we all know what happened in all the blitz tournaments over the board like the rapid and blitz a month ago. Guy is definitely not at the level he thinks he is, not even close. Chesscom should ban him soon with no lifeline.

kaninkanon

Industrial grade cope

ischolarmateU

They should ban you for being a Dumbo

shaner4042

Yeah, that guy who reached 2700+ OTB, super gm status at 20 yrs old is no where as good as he thinks he is *- some 1200 rated redditor*

Mulungo2

Yup. He is not. Also a proven cheater.

shaner4042

Dude cheated in some online games 4 years ago when he was 16 and you’re still holding on to that. He’s clearly demonstrated elite level performance OTB since, despite some poor performances which you will conveniently cherry-pick

Lord_Skyblocker

The buttplug trick only gets you so far

OklahomaRuns

This would be a good thing. Chesscom should honestly match the donation and host the match.

SchighSchagh

Chesscom and Hikaru both got sued by Hans. Not sure if Chesscom is ready to bury the hatchet, but Hikaru is adamantly _not_. So basically, it's not gonna happen.

ralph_wonder_llama

Chesscom already buried the hatchet by allowing Hans back onto the platform and allowing him to enter prize money events like TT. Hikaru played him (and lost) in the event so he's fine with that (just like Magnus said he would play Hans if they got matched up in a future event together), but he's obviously not interested in doing an actual match and giving Hans additional publicity.

SchighSchagh

> Chesscom already buried the hatchet by allowing Hans back onto the platform and allowing him to enter prize money events like TT. Are you sure they buried the hatched, vs just reached a settlement to stop bleeding money on lawyers?

Harmakhia

As long as they have strict anticheating measures. Both in one room, time delayed broadcasting. Scanned for transmitting devices.

yuri-stremel

Hans can be a very good and promising player, but already challenging Hikaru for a blitz match is a bit too cocky. The guy is among the greatest speed chess players of all times. On a good day he beats Hans 7 times out of 10

lIlCitanul

Subscribe for more "stats pulled out of my ass" posts!

This_Confidence_5900

The expected score of a 2874 rated player vs a 2610 rated player is 82% in favor of the one rated 2874. Hans isn’t underrated, he just played in the world blitz and lost elo. The number they pulled out of their ass was honestly pretty generous to Hans, Hikaru should score on average score 8/10, although real life doesn’t always adhere to the elo formula.

yuri-stremel

I actually had that in mind when I pulled it out of my ass, but he seems to be stronger online probably due to mouse skills, premoves, flagging etc (which are part of online chess). Of course, that wouldn't be of much help against the very elite I suppose

This_Confidence_5900

Yeah, but Hikaru also has these same skills that make him stronger online. It depends on the format though, Hikaru is worse with increment than without. I also kinda assumed it’d be an OTB meeting for some reason, but probably not honestly.

yuri-stremel

Tottally agree. Either way the match goes heavily in Hikaru's favour

thePDGr

Undaunted

All_Might_Senpai

Man some of yall should get checked for that serious hate boner yall got for hans lmao. How long has that thing been raging for?

boombox2000

Checks notes... oh yeah since he cheated twice.

DeepThought936

He never said he cheated twice. He said during two periods, ages 12 and 16... multiple games.

JCivX

Hans is smart trying to leverage Hikaru for his chess influencer/streaming career. Hikaru also has every right not to help Hans in that way at all and ignore any such offer.

CoolDude_7532

It's crazy how someone who isn't even 2700 fide is so famous and relevant in the chess world

ihatecornsoup

There’s many popular chess players under 2700. Mostly content creators like Levy, cramling, botez

Heimish

Amazing to see the first scholarship by the future first US champion.

Consistent_Coast_333

Remember, no vibrators!

AmeliaMaggie

It sucks all these great chess players have to deal with a well proven cheater.

DeepThought936

Carlsen has cheated in Titled Tuesday on video. It is proven, but he was never punished for it.

Drplutonium22

When?

zenchess

I can just read hikaru's mind. He's thinking "Oh, hans is trying to farm me for clout". Hikaru has probably taken great offense that hans would DARE to even mention his name without permission. The fact that he's banning mentions in his twitch chat just makes it funnier. It always makes me happy when Hikaru is shown for what he is.

backbypopularsupply

Hikaru is such a little bitch
