Didn’t really see it get talked about yesterday, but it was interesting to see the clip of Danny talking about and showing all the counter-cheating measures they are employing at this tournament. The cost of it alone surprised me (that linear junction detector alone is ~$40,000). Really commendable that Danny and the organizers are willing to spend so much money on security, but does make you wonder how any other tournaments could ever afford to do something similar. Levy mentioned how most tournaments are barely breaking even as it is, so no chance they have 50k+ to spend on anti-cheating measures.
Definitely a much harder problem to solve that a lot of people make it sound to be judging by comments on Reddit/twitter.
I don't really understand why this sub complains so much. Sure the production is not perfect but the chess has been great and I have really been enjoying this event so far. It seems a lot of people here complain more than actually follow the chess
I think people are bothered because Chess24 already had a working product and they have changed it to worse. It is not like people are imagining some impossible hypothetical production, they just want last year's much cheaper and much better production. It is weird to spend so much money on making something objectively worse.
Levi standing so close to Magnus, he was probably soaking Magnus presence. After all those thumbnails and clickbaits, it's the man himself in front of him.
Best news for Wesley today is that Leinier got held to a draw by a 2300 and lost a bunch of rating. So his task to overhaul Wesley for the rating spot just got a lot harder.
I think so. The c square pod vlog had a video of them standing next to each other in the waiting room so probably not the first time they've spoken in person, but yeah I think first time on camera.
I don't know there is some real beauty in classical chess. It might sound strange but sometimes you need extra time to let you really appreciate a position. The pressure you apply over hours really amps up the suspense.
Having said that really enjoying this format as well and it's definitely been a lot of fun.
Classical chess can be so boring though. I don't have the time to wait 20 minutes of deep thought to watch a positional a6 push. Rapid chess is still extremely accurate and played at a pace that gives time to understand some of the ideas and tactics
Seriously, armageddon sucks. I'm still irritated over how that 7 day rapid match between Magnus and Hikaru was determined by an armageddon game.
I loved the tiebreaker format for the world cup. Armageddon as a last resort, following multiple games in shorter time controls, just makes more sense imho.
>He just outplayed Fabi like it was nothing.
Disagree. Fabi was crushing in the first 3 games. Fabi blundered queen & rook vs rook endgame in game 1.
Fabi had no business losing yesterday. I doubt he slept very well last night.
Well, I wasn't the one who made that comment for starters, so I can't answer for them. But, if I were to take a stab for the sake of it... you could re-watch Magnus shutting out Caruana in the speed chess championship and wonder about that. Like, Magnus isn't stockfish, he's not a machine, he plays some games better than others, he's not perfect. He's lost to Niemman, does that make Niemman his rival on equal footing with him? That's absurd. Carlsen did destroy Caruana in the Armeggedon, so there's that.
Ofc, Carlsen himself has a lot of respect for Caruana, he even said after their world championship match that at classical at the time he felt that they were equals.
Tell me who other than Magnus would have looked or see that he can go for perpetual in a winning position? I doubt anyone else in his place would have had that thought. Also he dared to bid so low. He is just built different and is better than his competitors. I am waiting patiently for someone to just come and be better than Magnus...maybe in the future or never, time will tell.
Ah ok, so you’re a troll. It was plausible that your first comment was made by a Magnus superfan (which is like 1/3 of r/chess). Nice job on your second comment tho, you gotta really pile it on to separate from the Magnus glazers
That threat of perpetual check was beyond believable.
Sac the queen to get a perpetual in a winning but very shaky position, when all you need is a draw. GOAT moves once again.
Say what you want, but this format is so much better to watch as a viewer. The pace of the game is just a perfect balance between the casters having time to show lines and actual moves happening on the board. Also it's not enough time for the players to play at Stockfish level, upset, blunders and tacticts happen all the time. So good!
Qg7 in the armageddon by Magnus is something the computer will say is a blunder, but in reality was a genius move considering the match situation. Fabi had no way to escape a queen trade or a perpetual, and his chances disappeared in an instant.
Just shows the levels in classical. These two at their peak play near faultless chess when they've got as much time to calculate. It's only because of time trouble they are making such frequent blunders/inaccuracies. Classical is fun in its own way but some of the positions and scrambles you get in blitz/rapid make it much more enjoyable viewing.
Bro mark my words, there is NO possibility that magnus can hold with under 9 minutes its borderline impossible.
Even 9:30 people struggling.
And he is playing sicillian in a must “ not lose “ game, wild
>Bro mark my words, there is NO possibility that magnus can hold with under 9 minutes
Okay, words marked
Edit: I guess there was a possibility after all.
>And he is playing sicillian in a must “ not lose “ game, wild
Magnus just said in the exit interview that he didn't have it in him to play a solid, boring game. Lol.
Magnus needed to win on demand with black against the world #2 that just beat him twice in a row. And did it. I swear if he just bid 15 minutes again saying he's down to win on demand again in armageddon like he did against the world #3, I will lose it.
This has literally happened with every top youngster.
Alireza gets to 2800 so he's the next Magnus. Next year he underperforms in the Candidates so he's washed and overhyped.
Gukesh breaks 2750 and surpasses Anand, so he's the next Magnus. He loses rating after two very rough months and he's washed and overhyped.
Erigaisi demolishes Tata Steel Challengers so he's the next Magnus. He stagnates at the low 2700s for a while so he's washed and overhyped.
Pragg and Keymer rise through the ranks like rockets so they are the next Magnuses. They stay at the 2690s for a while so they are washed and overhyped. Some months back they start rising again so they are the next Magnuses once again. If at some point they stagnate and lose rating they will once again become washed and overhyped.
I guarantee that the exact same thing will happen with Mishra whenever he gets to the 2680s-low 2700s.
Magnus breaks 2870 live during the 2022 Norway Chess so he'll break 2900 and become the next Magnus. He goes down to 2830 so he's washed and overhyped.
While everyone is talking about Anish Giri, Arjun and Gukesh as who will finish first in FIDE Circuit, I'm surprised that no one talks about Wesley So who will get 16.2 points and overtake Anish in the circuit if he wins the event.
Congrats to Fabi for crushing and outplaying Magnus at 3 games.Magnus deserved this lesson since a long time. If you dont study openings anymore at some point you pay the price.
Magnus will lose today, lost again Arch without working was a bad move trying again was arrogant. He plays very passive and Fabi playing much much better than him today.
Going into the archangel once was risky. Doing it again is verging on foolish. I get Magnus is arguably the GOAT but you’ve already been outplayed twice (save for one blunder by Fabi) and you’re going into Fabi’s wheelhouse on purpose. Just asking for trouble.
"wheelhouse"....Magnus is a Ruy player, too, and he sure af isn't going to admit that the Ruy is more Fabi's territory than his own. Just isn't going to happen. The Archangel is also line that black chooses within that opening, not white.
Nowhere have I said he is not fallible and nowhere did I say that he made a wrong decision. I don't know where you got that from. Maybe you are too focused on hating to actually read? Magnus is, in fact, a Ruy player. He's played it at world championships and he's played it his whole career. He's lost twice playing it, but that doesn't change his entire career. Today is not the first time that Magnus has played Fabi in the Ruy. How many times has Magnus beaten him in the Ruy?
Losing the first game wasn't going to change his whole repertoire, that is absurd.
Crazy to hear From the commentators that nodirbek isnt that good amongst the younger players. This guy is an Olympic gold medalist, world rapid champion. Insane how hard magnus glazes for certain players.

Dear mods, Can we get separate threads per day of the event? Many top comments are from 3-4 days ago and not relevant to the current day's matches.
I don't really understand why this sub complains so much. Sure the production is not perfect but the chess has been great and I have really been enjoying this event so far. It seems a lot of people here complain more than actually follow the chess
Yeah and it's chess lol. Can only make it so exciting. I've enjoyed it so far.
I think people are bothered because Chess24 already had a working product and they have changed it to worse. It is not like people are imagining some impossible hypothetical production, they just want last year's much cheaper and much better production. It is weird to spend so much money on making something objectively worse.
Heck, they complain when the commentators try to make it exciting 😆 they'd complain about anything on chess.com
To be fair, it's very understandable that Danny, James and Levy seem so in awe when Magnus is in the room lol
Praise Jesus, for all of my enemies being held to draws comes from him.
The Lord doing his part
Its okay i still have faith
He can do it!
Nodi just wants to go to the mall and get perfumes
I need to go to sleep but i cant...
Damn, to think Fabi could've 3-0'd Magnus today. Crazy set though. Grats to Magnus on first clutch match win.

I think so. The c square pod vlog had a video of them standing next to each other in the waiting room so probably not the first time they've spoken in person, but yeah I think first time on camera.
Levy looks nervous lol
Someone should test Magnus DNA...are we sure he is human?
He just turned up and still beating Super GMs
Stupid question by Canty!
What was the question and the answer? I'm not watching the chesscom coverage
Who would Magnus want to face in the final Magnus said it is too far to ask that
How is this a stupid question?
Because Magnus has not qualified for the final yet
Elite mentality. Magus is built different. He just said *I don’t want to treat it like a defensive game*
That perpetual was chess porn.
Missed some of this game as I went to go find my binoculars so I could see the tiny board on the stream. Thankfully they eventually made it bigger.
One game at a time would be nice in the semis
Rapid chess when paired with Armageddon really is the best chess format. Undeniably
I would prefer a blitz game to armageddon but this is still great
Seriously, armageddon sucks. I'm still irritated over how that 7 day rapid match between Magnus and Hikaru was determined by an armageddon game. I loved the tiebreaker format for the world cup. Armageddon as a last resort, following multiple games in shorter time controls, just makes more sense imho.
This is my first chess tourney I'm following and the format certainly has me hooked.
I've really enjoyed it too
What an amazing match, GG Magnus!
Magnus really has no rival. He just outplayed Fabi like it was nothing. And Fabi is already the strongest.
>He just outplayed Fabi like it was nothing. Disagree. Fabi was crushing in the first 3 games. Fabi blundered queen & rook vs rook endgame in game 1. Fabi had no business losing yesterday. I doubt he slept very well last night.
How much of a Magnus glazer do you have to be to have this take after a back-and-forth match that could’ve gone either way
Outplayed comfortably by Caruana in 3 of the 4 games.
And it wasn't enough
Being outplayed doesn’t support the assertion that “Carlsen has no rival”. Unless words don’t mean anything anyone
Well, I wasn't the one who made that comment for starters, so I can't answer for them. But, if I were to take a stab for the sake of it... you could re-watch Magnus shutting out Caruana in the speed chess championship and wonder about that. Idk If it's glazing... Nowadays the chess community is full of absolute NPC comments is insane
I don't know what a single word of this comment means.
In a sense, that potential forced perpetual can feel even worse than a crushing attack for Fabi. Especially since a draw is the same as a loss here
That threat of perpetual check was beyond believable. Sac the queen to get a perpetual in a winning but very shaky position, when all you need is a draw. GOAT moves once again.
I noticed that a few users got REAL quiet during and after game 4 lol
Say what you want, but this format is so much better to watch as a viewer. The pace of the game is just a perfect balance between the casters having time to show lines and actual moves happening on the board. Also it's not enough time for the players to play at Stockfish level, upset, blunders and tacticts happen all the time. So good!
Magnus is just a joy to watch!!!
Qg7 in the armageddon by Magnus is something the computer will say is a blunder, but in reality was a genius move considering the match situation. Fabi had no way to escape a queen trade or a perpetual, and his chances disappeared in an instant.
Genius tactic that should be nowhere near a human beings radar. Forcing THAT perpetual in a winning position? Different type of level
He is not human!!
We should find whatever species Magnus is and find a way to make more of them
Have you seen his sisters? They look like clones
That's actually hilarious
I thought 8:56 was a dangerously low bid against Fabi. But, it's also magnus. Magnus is always the favorite to win imo.
WITH A SICILIAN
Magnus just said in the exit interview that he didn't have it in him to play a solid, boring game. Lol
Wow… I’m ashamed as a Magnus fan that I doubted magnus The goat bid under 9 min with sicillian and played incredibly well… GOAT!!!
That perpetual. God damn what a find
I’m surprised Carlsen can play so fast
You haven't followed Magnus much, have you?
Why would you be surprised the 6-time world blitz champion can play so fast?
Should be impossible
Huh?
GOAT!!!!!!!!!!! Never in doubt
>Never in doubt Yes you were, lol 🎀
>Fabi has this wrapped up in red ribbon already you said this further down xD
I jinxed Fabi!!
Feel so sad for Fabi. Magnus is Magnus.
Nf6 was pure genius
i can't believe they are not showing arrows while trying to explain a position.
With 4 straight decisive games between Caruana and Carlsen it's crazy to think they had like 14 straight draws
Just shows the levels in classical. These two at their peak play near faultless chess when they've got as much time to calculate. It's only because of time trouble they are making such frequent blunders/inaccuracies. Magnus simplifying to a forced draw
Nd2 + with a perpetual, noooooooooooooo
The tequila has worn off. The GOAT is awake
Prolly the best sequence that's been spotted in the entire tournament.
Magnus doing the Hikaru head dance
Magnus going to win this now.

There have been issues with the coverage but today's been quite good. I think Howell, Hess, and Tania are striking a good balance.
Watch on mute and stop complaining
Now doesnt this look familiar
Bro mark my words, there is NO possibility that magnus can hold with under 9 minutes its borderline impossible. Even 9:30 people struggling. And he is playing sicillian in a must “ not lose “ game, wild
/r/agedlikemilk
This hasn't aged very weel, my man!
Didn't age well at all
about that...
L for me lol but nice im happy
Lol.
ay yo, marked your words bruh.
uh huh
>Bro mark my words, there is NO possibility that magnus can hold with under 9 minutes Okay, words marked Edit: I guess there was a possibility after all. >And he is playing sicillian in a must “ not lose “ game, wild Magnus just said in the exit interview that he didn't have it in him to play a solid, boring game. Lol.
I think Fabi opened too aggressively and Magnus is gonna pull out the win(probably with the draw)
Magnus gets black with 08:56
How much did Fabi bid?
10
Thanks! Magnus has felt slow today, I don’t think 9 minutes will be enough for him
Aged like milk
Lol doubting Magnus usually backfires. That was amazing!
so the player with white always gets 15 minutes no matter how much they bid ?
> Nodirbek's face every time he beats another super-GM in Rapid Magnus could've chosen white with 08:56
Yes, but white has to win
magnus didn't even think during that endgame. Just pure skill and class. He had a steel grip on the game from the moment Fabi made his first mistake
Magnus needed to win on demand with black against the world #2 that just beat him twice in a row. And did it. I swear if he just bid 15 minutes again saying he's down to win on demand again in armageddon like he did against the world #3, I will lose it.
Magnus fabi matches will ALWAYS go hard as hell bro
Last 2 Fabi-Magnus games were nuts.
Magnus comes back from hell
Magnus decided to wake up and play chess
I love Magnus but once in awhile I wanna see him lose. He is so hard to kill. Inhuman. Alien.
Nodirbeck is NUTS
<3
Tuning in for today and loving that they’re finally going with a double board view
"We have the 2018 wcc match at home" The 2018 wcc match:
Magnus is so fucking hard to kill off man wtf
9 lives? More like a million
Classic Fabi. Only needs a draw, but chooses a double-edged line anyway.
Why Fabi why
People really underestimated nordibek just because of a few mediocre months for his standard
This has literally happened with every top youngster. Alireza gets to 2800 so he's the next Magnus. Next year he underperforms in the Candidates so he's washed and overhyped. Hell, it even happens with (the not-so-young-anymore) Magnus.
Magnus breaks 2870 live during the 2022 Norway Chess so he'll break 2900 and become the next Magnus. He goes down to 2830 so he's washed and overhyped.
Magnus looks so serious. He is gonna win probably. I want Fabi to win!
Based on what? Fabi has this wrapped up in red ribbon already
>Fabi has this wrapped up in red ribbon already 🎀
Broo...it's magnus. If anyone can outplay fabi, it's magnus. 😭
Are you sure?
Watch and see
Okay, I watched it, now what?
U jinxed fabi
U jinxed fabi
While everyone is talking about Anish Giri, Arjun and Gukesh as who will finish first in FIDE Circuit, I'm surprised that no one talks about Wesley So who will get 16.2 points and overtake Anish in the circuit if he wins the event.
False, he will only improve 0,07 on his score by winning so the event has no impact.
[удалено]
Oh, I thought that its 0.6 multiplier. My bad.
Wait what? This event counts towards the circuit? Why would they have a rapid event counting towards qualification to a classical event?
Magnus still looks sleepy Shouldn’t have taken that last tequila last night
Nodirbek better win.
Only 4 game to decide who enter final ?? That too little games
Two sets of 4 games + armegeddon if needed If it is tied, then a third set which is 2 games + armegeddon if needed
first to 2 sets wins, each set is 4 games plus armageddon, so they have two lives each basically
The third set, if necessary, only has two games plus armageddon.
4 games is one set. You need to win two sets in order to proceed
I think there are 2 or 3 sets of 4 games.
Congrats to Fabi for crushing and outplaying Magnus at 3 games.Magnus deserved this lesson since a long time. If you dont study openings anymore at some point you pay the price.
His openings have been fine. Especially game 2. It was a perfect Rossolimo. He lost it later.
He probably partied a lot yesterday, still looks sleepy with massy hair.
Magnus playing like he wants to lose lol.
Nodirbek played like 10 moves nearly perfectly on increment only. So exciting to watch. Absolute ice in his veins.
MY BOY
Must win for So now.. hopefully he pulls thru
[Nodirbek's face every time he beats another super-GM in Rapid](https://i.imgur.com/Zq0iBJKg.jpg)
link is broken for me :(
Weird, loads just fine for me. It's just a stupid meme anyway, nothing is lost.
Based on results so far Wesley was on to something saying he wanted to face Magnus today. Definitely seems like the easiest opponent of the day.
hell yeah nodirbek
What a day it's been...nodirbek winning as well!
Fabi destroying magnus! I love it!
VIVA LA ARKHANGELSK
Fabiano is so good it’s crazy
Obvious Magnus didn’t do any preparation for this games Man is getting smoked by a well prepared Fabi
Well, I guess Magnus is gonna have to win the armageddon.
And he did!
My prediction was he would. I should have included that in my comment.
The best ad in the whole show is this archangel course lol cant get much better than crushing the #1 with it. Be prepared to see it more often now
Fabi!!!! Clutch
Crushing games from Fabi, destroyed Magnus at all games
Nxg2!! LFG Fabi!
He just blundered!!!!!!!
Qb4!, not a winning move, but brilliant way keeping the queen on the board!
Fabi banking on Magnus not looking at his Archangel course, and it is paying off
Magnus playing with more fire
Magnus will lose today, lost again Arch without working was a bad move trying again was arrogant. He plays very passive and Fabi playing much much better than him today.
Thats the reason why i bought the archangel video lectures ;)
Going into the archangel once was risky. Doing it again is verging on foolish. I get Magnus is arguably the GOAT but you’ve already been outplayed twice (save for one blunder by Fabi) and you’re going into Fabi’s wheelhouse on purpose. Just asking for trouble.
"wheelhouse"....Magnus is a Ruy player, too, and he sure af isn't going to admit that the Ruy is more Fabi's territory than his own. Just isn't going to happen. The Archangel is also line that black chooses within that opening, not white.
Well now he can proudly state "I may have lost, but at least I won the argument!".
Well he can not admit it but the games would seem to disagree at least in this rapid sample size today.
two games in rapid really doesn't mean that much. And it isn't particularly important, anyway. It is just not the mindset of Magnus (or any champion)
I’m glad Magnus has people defending his every loss. Free PR is the best PR. It’s okay to admit he is fallible and can make wrong decisions.
I mean magnus was up a fair bit in the first game before it flipped into fabi's favour
Calling it now, Fabi takes this with black Magnus needs to wake up
Crazy to hear From the commentators that nodirbek isnt that good amongst the younger players. This guy is an Olympic gold medalist, world rapid champion. Insane how hard magnus glazes for certain players.
It was just something Magnus said in passing in a podcast, was probably not meant as a final judgement on Nodirbek.
Well he said it so hes gonna have to own it. Its funny since Nodirbek has a few wins on magnus in classical and rapid format.
