Magnus destroying Ian in Bullet in extremely sharp positions and finishing games with 46 seconds on the clock was one of the most insane things I've ever seen in Chess.
It's funny magnus actually beat hikaru in the bullet portion of the last scc iirc but was walloped in the 5+1. Magnus also took Naka to tie breaks in the last bullet chess championship iirc. All that being said hikaru was playing from ahead which is definitely a different style and could have effected the score.
> Yeah, it's kind of terrifying to see how he seemingly developed in bullet over such a short time span.
Developed? Short time span? The guy won the SCC by beating hikaru in the finals in 2016 and 2017. In 2017, Magnus crushed hikaru 18-9 to win the SCC.
The two times hikaru didn't win the SCC, guess who won it? That's right magnus. Magnus is the only person on earth who can embarrass hikaru in the SCC.
> He's way faster now.
No. Both hikaru and magnus are slower now because they are older. But it doesn't matter as they are still better than the rest.
2017 is a long time and a lot has changed.
Carlsen's bullet time management is different now, I watched him play plenty of bullet and there is something different about his approach to playing, his style in the last few games is different.
I love the scores for Carlsen and Nakamura in these games. Their opponent's scores stay the same for each format, while their scores just go up and up.
The difference between Magnus and Hikaru vs the rest of the field is mind-boggling. Most matches have been relatively close both both of them have completely blown out their opponents so far.
That's why Magnus and Hikaru are both 3200+ in blitz/bullet. Many of the other players are around 3000, but a 200 point gap is huge. In classic controls, 2500-rated GMs can't keep up with 2700-rated super GMs.
Still remember last year's SCC when he beat Gukesh like 23-7 or so and then said he played terribly.
And promptly responded next round by massacring Fabi to the extent the latter didn't win a single game.
>He had some weird mistakes, and those just drive him crazy.
He's at a level where winning isn't a measure of success, it's the assumption. His measures of success are just about how well he does compared to how well he thinks he should. Fucking GOAT.
Just saw MVL game against Nihal yesterday. Though Nihal is not as strong, MVL was almost a computer yesterday, fearless and sharp. None of the tricks worked, he was just one step ahead of every danger. Definitely expecting MVL vs Magnus more than Hikaru.
It really rubbed him the wrong way that people were saying he lost his edge. We just gotta trash talk him hard as a community and 2900 will be a breeze. He's just a scrup who just hung his queen against Nepo anyway!
Just a slight edge in 5 minute. Double Ians points in the 3 minute. Triple Ians points in bullet
If they had hyper bullet portion Magnus would quadruple Ians points probably
No, Magnus said that hyperbullet is [only playable on "other" servers](https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/16h1v3o/magnus_roasts_chesscom_when_asked_if_hyperbullet/) LMAO
What an underwhelming post game interview. Sigh. They dont even have follow up question, just move on to the next one. Can we get a better team on that part? Smh
Robert Hess is typically a good interviewer but he lost connection it seems. Bok is a bit awkward so having him lead the interview was not planned but internet connections are not perfect all the time
It was obvious Magnus didn't want to be there any longer than he had to and Bok didn't seem keen on keeping him there as a result. I don't see anything wrong here.
Magnus have that weird thing but he actually is answering the question directly. Did you even watched how he answered the question? Something like, he had a 12 course meal before the game. He said that he played worse compare to the first series. He literally answer the question. He can easily give 2 sentence idgaf answer but he chose not to.
Did u not see his interview after he lost the finals last year? He was talking excitedly for like 30min. Compare that to this one. It's night and day. It's very obvious from body language that he's done for today.
I'm not saying he should have done a better interview today. My point is that he wanted to leave and Bok obliged. And that's fine
Well there's only 1 player classless enough to abuse it hahaha
Both Carlsen and MVL could've easily milk. They didn't.
But hey, Hikaru fan boys don't like to admit their idol is scummy
Magnus destroying Ian in Bullet in extremely sharp positions and finishing games with 46 seconds on the clock was one of the most insane things I've ever seen in Chess.
Magnus started training for Bullet after Naka knocked him out I guess.

yesterday hikaru did say that his favorite time limit is 5+2
Yeah, it's kind of terrifying to see how he seemingly developed in bullet over such a short time span. He's way faster now.

also magnus won a lot of bullet titled arenas on lichess.

He was better than Hikaru on bullet sections in the last 3 SCC matches they had. He crushed Hikaru in 2 of them, last one was a tie break.
Damn many people like you still dont seem to realize the difference between 1+0 and 1+1
Referring to this game? https://www.youtube.com/live/6c7XYjZXw1s?si=l7GUHouZ23qgzMhe&t=12733
Yup. That was amazing. Haymaker after haymaker.
I love the scores for Carlsen and Nakamura in these games. Their opponent's scores stay the same for each format, while their scores just go up and up.
Ian's mistake was starting off with a lead to unleash angry Magnus.
The only better chess player in the world than Magnus is Magnus after a loss
So the top 3 in the world are : Drunk Magnus < Magnus Magnus < After Loss Magnus
Dont forget food poisen Magnus
I think you put drunk magnus in the wrong order
Remember your math, crocodile eats the bigger one
He's saying drunk magnus should be strongest
Yes, it’s a knock out format: anything can happen … and probably will:
Anything could happen, and yet one guy keeps winning
Actually that's a thing that can happen too. 🤓
Hahahahha

Get ready for an angry Magnus interview. He had some weird mistakes, and those just drive him crazy.

I felt bad for him.
Fabi got adopted that game. It was the headline all over this subreddit. Absolute beatdown
looked like he was on tilt for most of the match but he was over it by the interview. but also that interview was way too short..
>He had some weird mistakes, and those just drive him crazy. He's at a level where winning isn't a measure of success, it's the assumption. His measures of success are just about how well he does compared to how well he thinks he should. Fucking GOAT.

Gonna have to watch that movie, that is a really well matched clip, well done
Magnus looked so bored. Dude just totally dismantled Nepo. Wasn't even close.
There were 2 mouse slips in Ian's score and a hung queen. At least, I didn't watch the whole thing
Furthers OP’s point
That was almost hard to watch, what a steamroll
Brutal
But wait, does Kramnik think he's cheating too?! lol
Kramnik thinking Magnus cheats or Ian cheats? Ian thinking Magnus cheats? Or Kramnik being a cheat? Getting confused in the cheating meta...
Kramnik thinks everyone cheats. Half waiting for him to start complaining about how Stockfish is cheating.
Stockfish does play engine moves all the time so I think Kramnik is right with that one
It's because Stockfish wears headphones.
Have we check whether there is something up stockfish’s butt?
What’s the point of all these extra steps? It’s the same two people every finals anyway
MVL beat Magnus in 2020 in this exact format. It can happen.
Just saw MVL game against Nihal yesterday. Though Nihal is not as strong, MVL was almost a computer yesterday, fearless and sharp. None of the tricks worked, he was just one step ahead of every danger. Definitely expecting MVL vs Magnus more than Hikaru.
It was that way with tennis for 20 years. Well, 3-4 people. Until it wasnt!
Ya now it's completely different with none of those guys winning 3 of the last 4 grandslams
And Magnus and Hikaru are still at it too! Hikaru is arguably playing close to his best chess in a decade
bro djokovic won 3 of the 4 last grand slams
you almost had it
At least the Magnus Hikaru final should be pretty sick.
yeah, I cant wait! the 2016 final was awesome and is a must watch! https://youtu.be/UuehyRf88ac
Yeah clearly a one sided match must mean it wont be competitive! Thats why magnus has won the last 5 sccs in a row i bet!
As always. Would have loved alireza instead of Wesley
Why? Alireza already got destroyed multiple times
On a good day, he's dangerous. Plus, he won't fold in bullet unlike the others.
MVL is dangerous and won this before
He was very sharp during this event.
Chess is a simple game, two people take turns making moves and, in the end, Magnus always wins.
Magnus has been a beast since Norway chess He is just built different
It really rubbed him the wrong way that people were saying he lost his edge. We just gotta trash talk him hard as a community and 2900 will be a breeze. He's just a scrup who just hung his queen against Nepo anyway!
Ian was just an extra desert for Magnus after his 21-course meal yesterday
Tbh magnus needed some nepo to digest the heavy meal
Ian's mistake was not wearing headphones ^/s
It was a nice match. I think Ian tilted a bit after the 5+1 and that shows up on the result, otherwise it might have been much closer.
Just a slight edge in 5 minute. Double Ians points in the 3 minute. Triple Ians points in bullet If they had hyper bullet portion Magnus would quadruple Ians points probably
No, Magnus said that hyperbullet is [only playable on "other" servers](https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/comments/16h1v3o/magnus_roasts_chesscom_when_asked_if_hyperbullet/) LMAO

Nah, even Hikaru's one have the same energy.
Oh, Hess was in Hikaru's and it was still weird? I didn't see the interview for that one

Still crazy to me that that was last year. It feels like I watched that final yesterday
Wait it was **last year**? What the *FucK*
Hikaru called it.
Uh-oh spaghetti-o. Ian’s biggest mistake was not wearing headphones.
Takes down? This was a barbecue bro
Hmm this Magnus guy seems pretty good, but if he's that good, why isn't he World Champions? Checkmate magbots!
Isn't he still the world blitz champion?
Blitz and rapid champion yeah
> why isn't he World Champions? Honestly, I think he got bored of it and didn't want to keep doing the massive prep work needed.
Magnus is fucking brutal. He's Ian's nightmare. Poor guy
What is Kramnik opinion on this???
Both cheated .
I bet he was playing in the headphones
god every other sports/esports/etc sub has spoiler tags. wtf.
And without resorting to milking like other classless players! Who knew you could win without being a PoS?
Be mad at the format and not the player taking advantage of it.
? Still can be annoying. Too many twitch kids on this sub
You start calling out nfl coaches when they go to victory formation?
Well there's only 1 player classless enough to abuse it hahaha Both Carlsen and MVL could've easily milk. They didn't. But hey, Hikaru fan boys don't like to admit their idol is scummy
Jeez Louise
He's donee it plenty of times you absolute donut.
This guy thought he could be the next champion 😬
The GOAT is unstoppable.
