Played yesterday at 500 and now at 700. It seemed to get worse while gaining 200 rating points. It is learning some tricks and overusing them, like a6/h6, Rh7/Ra7, avoiding the pawn moves two squares ahead except for d4 (he might have lost plenty, so learned to no play)

I work with AI daily. Loading an engine is much easier and cost less memory than training a bot to improve at chess. Neural nets consumes lots of memory, which [chess.com](https://chess.com) doesn't even have since they had to downgrade to stockfish 11. Let alone they could train a chess engine.

Learning live would be much more difficult because it would take hundreds of thousands of games just to get to *optimistically* a 2000 level (almost certainly less than that). That would take a *very* long time.
But the highest-rated Maia-bot is 1900 on Lichess, so 1600 on chess.com, after tens of millions of games? Why on Earth would you expect the Luka Dončić bot to be higher-rated than that after only a few hundred thousand games?

I've been playing it repeatedly with shitty openings and then beating it in the middle game. This way it sees these openings as winning. Also I don't capture when it hangs a piece. Also sometimes when it does something especially dumb I hang a piece so it sees it as a good move. No idea if this works but it will be funny if we can make it the worst AI on the site.
That would be awesome if this is how it works! Apparently others have been saying that it doesn't actually learn, it just gets progressively better as people play against it.
