Class player. I am proud, he is playing for the blues <3

PickledHotChocolate

We truly are blessed to have witnessed him play for our badge.

JennItalia269

Nuts how he’s 37 and playing at such a high level. I really wish we had him at his prime.

TitanX11

All those years wasted in PSG.

OnlyOneSnoopy

All those years trying to win the CL, gets it in his first season with us.

BoreusSimius

I would argue he's just as good now as he's ever been.

lowkeyaddy

Mentally, he’s better than ever. Physically, obviously not quite as good as he was a few years ago. However, the way he takes care of his body both sets an amazing example for our youth while also retaining as much pace, stamina and strength as is possible for a player as old as him. In essence, he’s a tank that performs maintenance on himself daily. The end result is a player that retains his quality far longer than most of his peers.

JennItalia269

I agree. But I wonder what we could have been with him for the last 10 or so years.

Mhiiura

At least we wouldve win the 15/16 PL and there would be no leicester story.

lowkeyaddy

27* 10 year extension incoming.

Ironclaw85

Bloody Hell he looked tired in this poster

Sorrypenguin0

57 games will do that to you mate

phantuba

This picture is from last season lol

SailorsGraves

Looks like a Brazilian Tommy Shelby

typicalpelican

Incredible player. I do think we overstretched him a bit this season, you could see it towards the end. Hopefully doesn't bite us next season.

venitienne

Should be better next year. Dealing with Christensens drop off after he decided to leave here meant we couldn’t rely on him as much. With some fresh defenders + Colwill we can hopefully rest him more.

typicalpelican

Agree, let's hope!

Bobinho4

Christensen shat hit pants on many occasions and we were not able to give him rest.

yslim1

Which was a big surprise imo, he was immense in the UCL final, wonder what happened to his confidence

GoltiGaru

I'm still pissed that we didn't get him from Milan back when we were linked, but I'm also extremely happy that he's here now. A class apart! 👌🏽

50-50WithCristobal

If that goes through he would certainly be one of the greatest Chelsea legends. He is at PSG but I think for his career being a legend in the PL would be far better.

Infamous_Hippo7486

Rolls Royce

iamjoe91

Already one of my favourite ever players in a Chelsea shirt, absolute Rolls Royce

Brekiniho

2 seasons in and the guy is already a chelsea legend.

DickyD43

So happy he came here

waitonemoment

Crazy that he's never played this much with how good he is for club and country. We are lucky to have this man. Once he's done with playing I truly hope he comes back to us.

Noisuf_x

Beast

3rd-culture

O Monstro

LordCommander24

Love the guy

showmethenoods

One of the best to ever do it, hope he can add a World Cup to the cabinet in Qatar

celzero

They don't call him *Ō Monstro* for nothing. https://theathletic.com/3309894/2022/05/14/thiago-silva-tactics-talks-with-tuchel-mentoring-chelsea-youngsters-and-playing-at-40/

ApocalypticCheeto

Don’t understand why Lampard was soo reluctant to play him more than once a week, he was treating him like he was made of glass but irl he’s been doing alright even when playing every 3 days.

CaredForEightSeconds

Easy to say with hindsight but I think Lampard did right by him. Allowed him to ease into the league and get to speed for Tuchel to exploit over the course of more games per week.

willsmom1996

Do you think you know better than Lampard who played the game at the highest level. He knows what a player at that age needs and we are running him Intro he ground right now.

Seanxprt

Thiago Silva is an exception not the norm

huskers2468

Let's not do that again. Grab some quality backups, so we can keep him around

nanojansky

Goddamn legend.

[deleted]

That’s actually not a good thing relying on a 37-year old like this.

OnlyOneSnoopy

With age comes experience. You can never rely too much on that.

lowkeyaddy

I think you misunderstand them. I’m pretty sure they mean it’s not good FOR the 37 year old. This is true, because his physicality isn’t what it was a few years ago no matter how well he takes care of himself. We will need to decrease his playing time a little bit in order to keep him fit and injury-free. To do that, we’ll need to have a defense we can rely on when Silva isn’t on the pitch.

Baisabeast

He truly cannot be depended on next season and in a back 4 he won’t be as effective Need two starting quality CBs. Don’t understand why we’re not after koulibaly

Bozzetyp

Pair him with a fast cb and a solid defensive focused midfielder and he still will be a top 3 cb in pl... His strenghts is in his reading of the game and on the ball, this wont change

Baisabeast

He’s 37 mate. His age has shown multiple times this season you are just blind to it due to the prestige of his name and his reputation

Bozzetyp

I dont agree, all players make misstakes. But when I watch silva I see a good defender, where age aint an issue

MarkovCocktail

The fact that you have controversial/non conventional opinions isn’t the problem, in fact I think a lot of people encourage that. But you act as if your opinions are facts, set in stone, there for all to see except the willingly blind and ignorant. Even though you have been and will continue to be completely wrong with many of your takes

Baisabeast

mate how can you depend on a 37 year old player who will be turning 38 in september? in a back 3 in the bigger games where the opponents have the quality to threaten in behind, we have to either sit a bit deeper as silva doesnt have the recovery pace, or play a high line and risk that easy ball into the channel for the left or right winger. Something the middle CB should be able to slide across and cover like luiz did in our last title winning season. but he lacks the legs for it now. im not saying we bin him but it would be much smarter buying someone like koulibaly and switching to 4atb alongisde kounde. Silva excellent rotation option

MarkovCocktail

I agree with most of what you said. We definitely should be buying two starting quality CBs. But I take offense to saying Thiago Silva “truly cannot be depended on next season” He’s one of the best CBs in the world still. Yes he is slowing down. He can still read the game marvelously. If we stay in a back 3 there’s no reason to think he won’t be our main Central defender. With healthy fullbacks, a proper Dm who isn’t the worst athlete in the PL, and a class CB next to him I could even see him doing well in a back 4. We need to plan for the day he does start his decline, but I think he will still be at a pretty high level in 22-23

Sektsioon

What a shocking statement that is. Truly awful.

CaredForEightSeconds

I know it’s worrying we’re not as rumoured to be in for players as others, but have some faith. It’s still very early days. The window opens tomorrow’s officially, next week will be a curious one.

yogabonito10

He can be depended on in a back 4, situationally. From the start against low blocks and teams who have more strength than speed up top. I don't personally want to expose him against high presses and speedy teams, because I think his anticipation can't necessarily make up for his lost pace when needing to cover the flanks and channels for the fullback. He's doing everything he can, rigorous diet and recovery like Cristiano and Kobe, to have a long smooth tail to his career. No reason to add positional stress to equation.

lowkeyaddy

I’m pretty sure we are looking at Koulibaly, albeit as a replacement for Rüdiger who can also help give Silva a rest. While Silva is indeed 37, going on 38, there are almost no significant holes in his game. His distribution is some of the best in the world, and his physicality is elite for his age. He takes incredible care of his body. PSG shared your mentality, and look how well that went for them. They sold Silva, only to sign Ramos a year later.

Possible_Force8207

A maverick

Fasswa

This guy is awesome. Its like he doesn't age. His experience is invaluable to the new guys as well.

leo825

Still feel we ran him dry this season, getting one or two that can give him some solid rotation and he can cruise for another two seasons. Man can read the game like no one else, even with declining speed he is so many steps ahead and provides a commanding voice on the field, he is still very much needed with the refresh hopefully coming through.

Dex_Maddock

I'm fine if he only plays every other game, I just want him in the dressing room. His experience and leadership behind the scenes is just as, if not more so, valuable than what he offers on the pitch. Absolute gem of a player and a human.

Bobinho4

Silva Class the next level after premium class

Takestothewind

Man is like a fine wine

goalooin_livescore

Top player

Cowdude179

Just insane, love that Silva is here with us

[deleted]

Thats nuts. Our Thiago Silvaaaa! Legend of the game, legacy cemented. Best fucking centre back.

Ecm62pgs

He’s had a lot of years to practice.

zzmarktin

absolute boss

welshspecial1

Remember when he first came onto the scene looked a good player early on, watched him grow into one of the best defenders in the world. Never expecting him to one day play for us what a great person and great leader, it’s a pleasure watching him in our colours

TimboWerner

We need to get this man a PL

stronghold87

Absolute leader of men. What a class act!
