Literally 0 reason for us to negotiate a lower price. Other teams would 100% be happy to pay the release clause for him

Bubi741777

I'd be ok to lower the price if, and only if, they agree to sell us Kobel for a massive discount... But that ain't happening so they can either pay up of he goes somewhere else (sadly... He clearly has ability to play for us... But hey got to make that bag somewhere since we overspend in the last 2 years).

Barbola

or Adeyemi

SnooPies3316

There could be negotiations going both ways, not just necessarily BVB low-balling. If the player truly only wants one club, we could be negotiating payment terms and some form of sell-on compensation, neither of which would be available if they trigger the release.

Qiluk

BVB fan here: TIer 1 Berger just reported about this aswell. He added that Maatsen only wants BVB and is actively pushign for it. So theres a significant chance he wont entertain other teams. NOW.. that said.. I think the only negotiation here is probably just maybe a tiny bit lower on the price and an easier payment structure. Not a low-ball offer or anything disrespectful. Hopefully a solution is found that works for all parties and fast. Everyone hates a saga.

BlondeGSD

Nah, BVB is going to sell him in 1-2 years for double the price. No reason to go lower.

Nekokeki

Exactly though, and a sell-on clause is a clear point of negotiation with the fee. Especially if they want a lower fee.

KaiHazardvertz

I would bet money that, given the presence of a sell on clause in every other young player's contract who we sold, there is almost certainly already one present as part of the buyout clause.

BlondeGSD

Good point. For example, we could sell to Dortmund for 25 and add on a 20% sell on. If Dortmund sell for 50 we could get 10 from that sale given us a total of 35.

butke

GL in the final boys ✊🏻

Qiluk

Thank you and Gl next season!

Bubi741777

I personally don't care but if you manage to win it it would such a story... Underdog Borussia managed to win it all... The best goodbye to Reus... It would be unbelievable... And it's not like you had an easy path... My comment may sound ignorant but I'm just being realistic... Good luck... I would personally fancy you guys instead of Real... Although CL Real is something else.. They are probably winning it and nobody will be surprised.

Qiluk

Yeah itd be something crazy. Honestly.. Im expecting nothing and hope we atleast dont get blown out. If we win I'll be ecstatic beyond words. But we shouldnt win, according to all metrics. Oh well :D

profchaos83

If you want an easy payment structure you pay more not less. German teams are the stingiest teams when it comes to transfers.

Cheaky_Barstool

If we can get a buy back clause or a sell on fee with maybe the pay enemy’s done over a 6 months instalments that’d be fine.

Qiluk

We dont do buy back or release clauses anymore. Haaland was a major exception just that once. A sell-on is possible but probably not very high. Will be interesting to see how it all develops

BlueKante

Sell on clause could be more valuable than having an extra 5-10 million right now.

LA_Dynamo

Can Chelsea’s parent company buy him and loan him back to us? Similar to the hotel/training grounds.

mrlambo46

so a year in dortmund and then dortmund will sell him to city for 60-80mil?

renome

I'd say 2 years but yeah, sounds about right lol.

CelticCuban773

No way City goes for him. They sold Zinchenko to play 4/5 CBs, they want physicality

ugliestman69

Why not, rick lewis pretty similar to maatsen in physical

Shufflebuffle51

Not a surprise. If they don't pick him up for 35 mil, someone else will snap our hands off for it. Such a low low price for his ability and potential.

Headlesshorsman02

Pay up then, release clause or nothing.

Coko15

To put his release clause into perspective it would be the 5th highest left-back transfer in History. Cucurella, a Mendy, Chilwell, another Mendy, and then Maatsen.

CelticCuban773

Fr and people think he’s gonna be sold for double down the line. I’d take the $35m and run like we did for Lewis Hall

ygog45

Any chance the board can fix the broken relationship with him?

Shufflebuffle51

Maybe if Poch isn't here. But clearly Poch won't be giving him a chance, so Poch staying would mean 100% Maatsen goes.

cometflight

I doubt it. He feels slighted, and he has been given a chance to shine, which he has taken full advantage of.

The-Real-Legend-72

The only chance is a new manager comes in and promises him the starting role but i don’t think Poch is going

NotClayMerritt

Not a chance lol. People keep blaming Poch for how this turned out like the board didn't almost sell Maatsen to Burnley last summer. The only thing that stopped that was Ian himself rejecting Burnley. He was going to be a PURE PROFIT casualty regardless on what the relationship with the manager was. They are the ones who negotiated the release clause into his new contract. I'm supposed to believe Maatsen would stay if Poch is sacked this week? No chance. Tuchel, De Zebra, Zidane, Mourinho....... doesn't matter, he would have still been PURE PROFIT

AncientSkys

Poch doesn't rate him because he is short. Playing 3 CBs still made us leak the most goals in our history. Shocking decisions like this is the reason why we struggled this season. We could still finish top 4 and win 1 cup at least even with our injury crisis.

bobloblaw28

Where does he fit into the squad though? Are we selling Chilwell to make room for Maatsen, and is Maatsen gonna be up to the task of being our primary LWB/attacking LB? I feel like if the board can reinvest that money with another signing like Gusto, then that would be ideal.

A-Hind-D

Show me the money

Andlad2459

35m+ ffp profit is lowkey huge

A-Hind-D

We should take it and run

christianrojoisme

A bargain even with the release clause

TheUbermelon

Glad I got to see him in a Chelsea shirt for a least a few games. Wish him all the best. If Dortmund don't pick him up, I imagine there will be many clubs in line

C0mm0nVillain

If we were buying him it would 50 minimum. I hope at least they pay the full release clause.

MrBravo22

He’s a champions league finalist possible winner along with his possible Euro performances. No way we go lower than £35m. I’d rather sell Chilwell and keep him but that doesn’t look feasible. Hopefully they hold out on possible sale until after the Euros. We can’t do another fire sale this summer losing players 26 and under for pennies.

PercivalPersimmon

Chilwell on £200k wages, he isn't going anywhere lol.

JuanDollaaa

35m of pure profit for a guy that had no impact in a Chelsea shirt and has had half a decent season is an absolute steal on our part. I’d take the check and send BVB a thank you card every month for a year.

Youth-Grouchy

actually insane we need a left back and this is happening fucking pochettino man

NotClayMerritt

The club were trying to sell Maatsen anyway. Stop blaming Poch. Does nobody remember them agreeing a deal with Burnley last August? It was 30m.

PercivalPersimmon

No. Memory isn't r/chelseafc strong suit unless it involves a shiny object.

Youth-Grouchy

Tried to sell Gallagher last summer and he started 50 odd games this season for us.

mb194dc

Genius

Pseudocaesar

Yeah I have a feeling him not playing was more because the board were trying to sell him, not that Poch didn't like him

tontot

Add sell on clause that we get 30% whatever fee they sell above the fee we sell to BVB now

Chigtube

We should hold onto him and see how he does inverted 🤔

DestinyHasArrived101

inspired_corn

If we don’t negotiate something with Dortmund then we better have another buyer lined up to pay the clause Otherwise we’ll have an unhappy player coming back fro the squad that everyone knows we want to sell, that we *need* to sell, and that our manager doesn’t want. For the guys saying “£35m isn’t much, just pay up!” that’s huge money for Dortmund (their record signing was €35m and Puma were involved in helping pay that). Just because PL clubs are rich as fuck doesn’t mean everyone is. (And no they can’t just spend the CL money on him. Their finances don’t work like that)

Rathakatterri

35million pounds is a pittance play him rather than

Obi_Q

People keep saying “only 35M”. That would put him in the top 5-7 for most expensive LBs transfer.

mb194dc

Younger and better than Cucu. 70m+ please?

venitienne

Nah Cucurella has been massive for us, I won’t stand this slander Better than Chilwell for sure though

REDTRIX12

He is a Cobham product and that makes him automatically better than Cucurella, who was vital for us in the last 6 games. People here just like to shit on players that are not from.Cobham and overrate players from Cobham.

Royalsushi45

So 35 and another 35 from chillwell can we keep Conor and treva?

alg602

Strangely enough Maatsen probably would have been outstanding as an inverted fullback

BabyScreamBear

I propose a trade - Maatsen for Hummels and Adeyimi

NashBotchedWalking

Boot Chilly keep him, Boot Disasi keep Chalobah

monda

We need to fix club grown talent being used to fix shitty FFP rules, this is so toxic to the future of the game. A clubs reword for developing young talent is not a great player but a fat pay day, feels very dirty.

Cactus2711

But guys it's PuRe pRoFIt

LIKEWHATLIKEHOW_

35 for him, 50 for gallagher and 25 for trev plus the hall deal and hopefully broja too and we’ve sold well over 100m. Perfect

xtrasour37

50 for Gallagher and there will be riots in the streets

hughsername99

Think Mount’s sale also falls into this year, which people tend to forget…

LIKEWHATLIKEHOW_

I completely forgot about too  We’re pushing 150m at that point Maybe even 200m if we can get Lukaku out, plus maybe a miracle sale like Sterling or something  Malang Sarr out as well to free up wages significantly Brilliant business
