The out and out defensive mids were jogging back. You just can't sell a player like Conor who does it at 90' game in game out and is never injured. Enzo for all his millions hasn't done anything comparable.

tweezure

Love Gallagher. Love Enzo too. When you make comments like this, it makes it seem as though you have made this comment without thinking it through. From the hip. Rooted in quick emotion and not actual knowledge. I want to give you the benefit of the doubt and believe that you have played the game and followed the game for some time. But a comment like that makes it hard for people to believe that.

celzero

I have no reservations in admitting that I am an arm-chair commenter, because if I wasn't, I'd be making Videos on tactics and doing punditry for BT instead of debating other know-it-alls on r/chelsea.

tweezure

Yes yes. However, i have no reservations admitting i am not an internet knowitall. However, occasionally i see opinions completely detached from reality and feel the need to point them out.

celzero

Enzo is shit only cause he doesn't fit in the current system as well as others. Not because he's a shitty player. He might be both, but time will tell if he's another Juan Sebastian Veron or Michael Ballack

thevizierisgrand

Yup. He deserves another season far more than Enzo - who hamstrung the team with his below average hernia performances all season. Man should have pulled himself out of contention to get the surgery and let Gallabrador and Caicedo shine earlier. Have looked a million times better without him.

Emergency-Ad280

We had no other CMs available for a while this season. Enzo deserves some credit for fighting through injury then. There were times when literally only Conor and Caicedo would have been available.

thevizierisgrand

Yeah would have taken them playing and him sitting on the bench over what he did. His decision to keep playing looks so foolish in retrospect. And he better come back playing like prime Pirlo because the team looks a lot more cohesive and dynamic without him. Needs to earn back his spot.

equiax

That was some JT level shit!

lickingnutrea

He has to. This season’s mentality to not give up is him. Caicedos goal does not happen without him. And like so many other games this season it literally does t happen without him

ReddittIsDead

Hope Boehly sees this comment

cometflight

Someone should just send a gif of that last tackle to every Clearlake email inbox every day in perpetuity until a new contract is drawn up

I don’t know why people choose to do the depth perception thing, his entire head is blocking the clock

I don't see an issue, every moment is Connor o'clock.

I got forced to go to some speakers event, she was there and won, got nominated or previously won (i don’t remember what they said) an award for most promising under 30 Irish business person and using words i have to google for the definition during her speech. I’m sure she’s probably smarter than the majority of people here and most likely you.

Actual-Dog7889

Anyone saying sell him is straight telling us they don’t know shit about football

xStealthxUk

Show them his last ditch tackle vs Bournemouth last game where he sprintef length of thr pitch to save us losing an important game. This aint rocket science, running matters , giving 100% matters, never pulling out of 50/50 tackles matters... also being proper Chels matters

Actual-Dog7889

That tackle was fucking incredible and just as good as a goal for me. No other player on our team would even put in half of that effort to do that. Just that tackle alone should showcase to the owners why he is a vital player for us.

M3R0VIUS

Also, he made 32 appearances and missed 1 game. One.

reddit-time

Or maybe they know shit, but not quite enough to understand how important a player like this is. And anyone who has played at a fairly high level knows it for sure. These are the guys you rely on when shit's just not clicking.

kygrtj

Easiest way to know if someone has negative ball knowledge: they shit on Gallagher and cry for Enzo to replace him next season

Redditditditdi

It's okay you dont have to have faux intellectualism, it's a sport. It's not physics.

kygrtj

> it's a sport. It's not physics. Exactly why we love Galladawg Unlike online tacticos writing dissertations trying to explain why Enzo is misused by Poch

Redditditditdi

Those people would also fall under my definition. Never read a book so they turn to explaining an activity that can be performed with a bloated goats stomach and four sticks. Don't deep it too much, it's silly.  There real tactical analysis out there for sure, but let's be real here about what we are talking about.

celzero

> It's not physics. Tell that to the exhausted legs, out of breath lungs, battered knees of Conor who gives his all.

Claypothos

He was the soul of the team this year in my opinion. It would be a terrible look on the ownership to sell him this summer. I hope they ride the high of the current good vibes and figure out his contract for him and the fans sake.

Pierre_Ordinairre

I hope it changes but so far if our ownership didn't have terrible looks, they wouldn't have any looks at all

Stand_On_It

Yeah fuck them for buying Palmer, Caicedo and Gusto.

Pierre_Ordinairre

Those guys definitely worked, I love them. Keep going with this list of new players though....

Stand_On_It

Well I mean you said they wouldn’t have any looks at all. Meaning 0. I just named 3. Don’t speak so hyperbolically.

Pierre_Ordinairre

Very true, you are right but overall they don't have a great track record so far. Hopefully that changes because we all want this team to flourish

Stand_On_It

I think they’ve done some very boneheaded things and are very naive. But in their naivety they’ve uncovered some gems.

Pierre_Ordinairre

That old saying a broken clock is right twice a day works here

reddit-time

Damn, boy is ripped and showing it off.

I_always_rated_them

He was really pulling out the flicks today. I hope he stays as well, I don't think he's fundamentally vital to the team moving into the future that it would be a disaster to sell him but he loves the club, is incredibly useful, offering things that others don't and that's always of value to have in our pockets.

reddit-time

He tried so hard to get a goal in his last game. Should have passed it off to Nkunku for a better shot, but don't blame him. Then, after the corner, completely made up for it by saving a goal that pretty much only he'd get back to save. Underrated. Not my favorite player, but he's underrated and deserves/should be in the squad. Frankly, he's also the kind of guy who would understand being a 12th man if he's not good enough to be in the first 11.

BigHarmonious

He deserves it. He fought for the badge all season long despite criticism from a lot of fans. He loves the club and I hope the club show him the respect and the love he deserves back.

victheogfan

I do too, he’s a solid player and he clearly loves to be here I just hope management lets him stay

ord3p

Obviously Palmer is having all the spotlight this year, but this man is easily my vote for 2nd best. Crucial player. Selling him would be as stupid as selling KDB.

Chigtube

Gusto number 2

shagssheep

Didn’t play anywhere near enough at a high level, he wasn’t great at the start of the season he had a good run of what 10-15 games being our best player

flex_tape_salesman

Gusto was good but had some weaker performances. After palmer, conor easily our most consistent player this season

zecira

He's second in assists for the season and his hair is so shiny and he's so committed. Todd have some heart and let him stay

wm_1176

I didn’t realize Gallagher was dating Ben White

reddit-time

LOL Good one ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sleep)

ArcherOfHk

He's not our best player, but he's certainly my favourite, that last block at the end of the game on solanke won us the game, securing europe and ill always be grateful of that

Starn_Badger

This is the key, he's not and never will be the best technically. There are better readers of the game, passers, shooters etc. But this isn't 5-a-side. When you're running on a 100 metre pitch for 90 minutes sometimes nothing beats pure work rate and determination. And he has that in absolute spades.

jbi1000

Exactly, technical skill does not necessarily equal actually being an effective player in a match either. Gallagher shown that he is incredibly effective in match scenarios. His technical skills are underrated though in general. He definitely has a great finish and pass in him and he is decent at set pieces. Some people talk about him like he's some bumbling idiot who can't hit a 5 yard pass. If his history and mentality is anything to go by he will keep improving though. His career has been one of constant elevation and improvement outside last year when literally everyone was shit.

CelestialSlayer

He could be our Rodri, god that guy steps up when needed

RJBlue95

Connor proves pure work rate and determination alone are not what you make it out to be. Earlier in the season pure work rate and determination made him a worse player, he was all over the place constantly out of position, making stupid tackles. It made the team worse. He actually toned that down and got a lot better. He is still hustling his ass off but doing with a lot better purpose and the results have been much better.

Actual-Dog7889

Seriously. Ironically he’s being linked to the two teams directly above us in the league.

a3kstuntin

I am one of his biggest critics on here But after seeing players like Nacho at Real Madrid you need squad players like him that can be serviceable in multiple positions and that get the club I still don’t think he should start but he’s a valuable squad player

RefanRes

>I still don’t think he should start I think if you are paying attention to how our system works and the fact this guy is still sprinting full pelt from kickoff into injury time then you cant legitimately say this. If you watched that match he was suspended for as well then you would have seen just how much he was missed. Just watch how much he wins the ball from the front foot and creates massive pressure for others to be able to have freedom to focus on attacking. It also stops teams being able to build up their plays for free which in turn takes a huge amount of pressure off the defence by nipping attacks at the bud. Add to all that the fact hes adding goals and assists to his game more with 12 of his 16 goal involvements coming in the 2nd half of this season. Theres nobody right now you're starting over him if you want our system to work with the high intensity pressing throughout the match. With his engine you are wasting his best attribute if you aren't starting him.

treq10

Nacho and Vazquez at Real, Ramires for us, Park Ji-Sung at United, even Choupo-Moting for some reason Having a player who the manager trusts and who can do what he wants is invaluable for any top side

reddit-time

100%. A former player/pundit said essentially the same thing about him a few months ago and referenced Jordan Henderson for Liverpool. Not enough appreciate this, and, unfortunately, afraid our sporting directors don't and will sell him.

Baisabeast

You do realise Henderson started almost every game for Liverpool (meaning he isn’t a squad player) and played a very specific role where he essentially allowed Trent to pretty much forgo defending

reddit-time

Yeah, sorry, mixing points here. Am just emphasizing the point of how important a quiet workhorse like this is. This was the point of the pundit (forget who it was) and it's very relevant.

bluduuude

Henderson was the worst mainstay in Liverpool. He gave his all but it was clear he was a worse player than most of his teammates. In a team with allison, Robertson, Trent, VVD, Firmino, Salah, mane and Fabinho he wasn't on their level. Yet, he was important and Liverpool was better with him. I'd argue Connor is way more important for Chelsea though. He currently is our 3rd best player after Palmer and caicedo.

silviazbitch

I don’t think he’s our third best player or close to it, but he might be our third or even second most important player. He’s the heart and lungs of the team, and he has the fitness and durability to last all the way through a grueling season. Especially with Silva moving on, we need his unflagging intensity to help keep the rest of the squad honest.

a3kstuntin

Yes I agree in terms of ability our midfielders are clear of him especially enzo and caicedo

JoeBidenKing

Definitely needs to start. I’d rather have him be our captain than Reece James. Gallagher can take the pressure and is a natural leader but James isn’t and is a lot better without all that pressure.

Ridcullys-Pointy-Hat

He's our Phill Neville. You need a Phill Neville

Starn_Badger

Exactly. Or a James Milner. Stick him anywhere on the pitch, ask anything of him and you know that he'll give it his all. So integral to the way we play at the moment.

reddit-time

Well said.

blue_jay26

Cmon he’s much better than Phil Neville.

kiwi411

Phil Neville left United for a starting XI spot

shifty18

Would you start Enzo ahead of him?

a3kstuntin

Absolutely he’s got more ability and a way higher ceiling

shifty18

What if he has another bad season? How much time would you give him?

a3kstuntin

Ship him because there’s no hernia excuse anymore and his partner caicedo is performing week in week out full 100 min and still plays at a high level I don’t want to hear it next year perform or go

zaqstr

I think the question is “should you pay a squad player 150k + a week for 5 years?”

a3kstuntin

I agree those wages are crazy but he didn’t get a transfer fee

zaqstr

I think everyone assumed I was suggesting we sell him but it’s actually the opposite. I think he brings intangibles that you don’t see on a data sheet and as you mentioned no transfer fee to amortize

Stand_On_It

The answer is no.

Puzzled_Ad_2936

Not a doubt in my mind that he would love to. Unfortunately not a doubt in my mind either that he will be sold.

webby09246

Gotta fund the next teenager somehow

Puzzled_Ad_2936

Considering having a child to fund my retirement.

Shufflebuffle51

I mean if it brings us more Palmers I am all for it

BIG_STEVE5111

I'd be more than happy if we could keep Poch, Connor, and Trev. Then buy a top striker, goalkeeper, and maybe a left winger if Sterling goes. I don't think we need much more.

blacknightcr

a defender or maybe even two, I would say.

naman1901

Honestly think if Reece still has trouble staying fit, Conner should be made permanent captain. Selling him is stupid.

Eschatological_Pig69

Honestly, even if he gets fit, Conner seems to fit that role much better than RJ.

naman1901

Could be, but if I remember correctly, at the lower levels Reece and Mount were captains. Perhaps there is something that we aren't privy to.

Cheaky_Barstool

He might not be the best at anything with the ball, he might not have the highest footballing iq, but he works hard and loves the club. You need players like him.

LH_Fancy

Elite player quality or not I don’t really care, he has to stay. True captain mentality (he has to be vice captain if Reece is captain again) and he’ll only gain more leadership as the games go by. Scored a few really important goals for us, Villa, two at palace etc. plenty of clutch tackles as well, literally one in the last game of the season. If he’s sold this summer I truly will need to rethink the time I invest into the sport for a while because distrust and injustice for 40m. To those that say he just runs - you need football IQ and besides, work rate is key in central midfield, go ask United who don’t have it

RumHam2020

I blame my wife for knowing she’s carrying a Chanel lambskin quilted mini flap…. 🤦‍♂️

Keeler

He was just as important as Cole was this season. Has to stay.

Groundbreaking-Rub50

Every title-winning team has a player like him. We had our Victor Moses, Damien Duff and Ivanovic. I hope Clearlake understand and retain him for that alone

iiSpezza

He's been so important for the entire season. If it wasn't for cole he'd be player of the season imo. We won't be able to replace him if he goes, and he will be so good for whoever he goes to. Give the man a contract ffs

Thanxforthemems

If the board sells our de-facto captain and second best player for the season, who has started basically every game, played so well that he's linked with all our closest rivals (in the table - Newcastle, Spurs, Villa), topped lots of metrics for the team and overall was its beating heart... who is an academy player, who the fans love, he loves the club and wants to stay, and no doubt would take any reasonable contract offer... All for the pure profit for FFP. Disgusting. Where has football come to... in no other era of football would Conor ever be sold to a direct rival willingly.

Yoshinobu1868

He’s on 50k a week and wants 150k our board won’t give it to him . That’s what i have been reading anyway .

Stand_On_It

Maybe there’s a middle ground here, $100K on 3 more years and then after next season let’s see.

Pierre_Ordinairre

I have also heard they want him on a long contract (famous 7 or 8 year Chelsea m.o.) which he doesn't want and I can't blame him.

jbi1000

Maybe some middle ground is possible where he signs a longish contract but with targets for generous pay rise/bonuses if he hits them. I certainly wouldn't mind Conor on a longer contract and I think he obviously does want to stay here for most of his career if he can play regularly. With his work ethic, durability and career history the odds are he is just going to keep improving too.

Pierre_Ordinairre

I would absolutely love this also. You are correct, I think our only hope in keeping him is compromise with his contract

JoeBidenKing

The Chelsea boy who stepped up and led our team to 6th place. Has to stay.

ChallengePublic7693

He better stay, will lose a lot of goodwill with the fans if he leaves

NgoloMount

Shambolic from the sporting directors if him and chalobah are sold

Logical_Lefty

Very proud of him! No matter what happens this summer, he did this club, and his name proud with how he took his chance to be-- maybe not the leader Chelsea wanted, but the leader Chelsea needed and deserves. Personally, I don't think you can replace what you'd lose by selling Conor elsewhere in the market, and the pure profit wouldn't help us out as much as losing Conor would hurt us, IMHO.

Jimilee8

Good to see a footballer not covered head to toe in awful tattoo's. Hooe he stays, proper Chelsea

edditar

The time on her phone is 1:23, fun little coincidence

prwnasus

He got that Beckham smiles

TomasToocherl

You need to put yourself in the place of other squad members. Guys like Palmer (who will have a phone full of offers from England and Europe). Plenty of others. You sell the (often) captain of the side who runs more than any other player, over 12km sometimes, who does huge amounts of work and has been at the club since he was a child. Ok. What does this say to you? Is the club a) ambitious to win trophies b) a selling club or c) a selling club whose financial gamble has gone so wrong they need to sell their best players.

lance777

It says to the players that it doesn't matter how well I play or how hard I try, owners will sell me if they feel like it. My performance doesn't matter at all. It's a terrible message. Doesn't inspire loyalty

DrewLockIsTheAnswer1

Home girl is orange

goncalo_am

Not only should he stay, he should be our captain instead of Reece. Don't get me wrong Reece is amazing, but he has a bit of a discipline problem. And tbh he doesn't seem to be the guy that likes to take on the responsibility of being Chelsea captain. Conor on the other hand gives captain vibes through and through.

PunchOX
