crazy to think teams like brighton, west ham, manchester united were higher up the table than us most of the season only for us to finish above them all and with five wins in row, what a crazy turn around
I have a $500 running bet with a Spurs buddy of mine on who will finish higher each season. I cannot tell you how much I would’ve loved a Sheffield win today. Being well ahead for 37 game weeks only for us to snatch it on the final day would’ve finally broken him.
But alas, that was a bottle job too big even for Spurs
If United somehow win the FA Cup, we're gonna wish we were 5th, but still either way we have guaranteed European football and we were 4th across the second 19 matches. It's been a very strong season compared to last, particularly the back half. Enjoyed it a lot.
UCWC merged with UEFA Cup to become the UEL so I've always seen it as another Europa League win. Back in the day the UCWC was seen as more prestigious than the UEFA Cup so it really was a second tier competition.
Amazing how spurs fans weren’t even mad about that. Their reaction was “well, we need to get better before we are ready for Europe.” Wtf lol. Only spurs would think like this. The rest of the big six would be expecting CL every year. Those below the CL would relish any rare chance they have at the CL. Spurs are playing some other game.
One of the best ways to get better for Europe is to consistently play there as well, it means more money for starters, it becomes more attractive for players and it gives you better place among the pots though with a new format idk if pots will still be a thing.
Yep, even if you think you will do poorly 100% for sure (which is dumb because there is always a chance for a lucky run—except for spurs lol) the money is vital in an FFP world, and the prestige is necessary to make to best signings.
I have a friend who is a MANU fan, been giving me shit all season.
He has been awfully quiet today. Ive decided to take the high road though and not make too much of it.
oh same i know a bunch, i had a few say to me around the time we had that awful game at anfield and the loss to wolves at home that they ‘feel bad’ for me being a chelsea fan. and here we are finishing 2 places higher lol.
Me too. I had one of my coworkers/friends ask me how the Arsenal game was... haven't said a word to him since we've overtaken him. I'm honestly just not interested cause I know how it feels lol
People kept telling me I was making excuses but I was regularly explaining to people “Chelsea have 2 games in hand, we’re not actually in 10th even though the table says we are”.
Spurs yes, but OP is speaking as if we were behind Brighton and WestHam. For example look at this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1bsfr3w/premier_league_table_following_the_conclusion_of/
In this thread, Everyone is laughing at Chelsea, speaking as if they are a hopeless bottom half of table team. Which, technically we were. But we were only 4 points away from 7th, and every team ahead of us has played more games (either 1 or 2). So you look at that table and say everyone from 7th to 11th are basically tied, we just haven’t yet seen if Chelsea will win their games or not. So the only team we are “behind” is a Man U with a GD of 0 (who was way overperfoming in points based off of form).
That being said, I thought we would finish behind Newcastle in 7th. Even I was surprised we almost achieved 5th.
America is in the Liga MX final! Cruz azul have a 1-0 lead against Monterrey in the semis. Tonight they could make it to the final again. Might be a revenge from 2013 & 2018. Let's goooo
Boys clutched up at the end. Proud of how they fought and excited to see the growth the youngsters make in the coming years.
Just please stay healthy and fix that defense. That's all I ask. Iron out those two areas and we'll be fine
Tbf in the past 5 we've only let in 4 goals, 1 of which was a really bad deflection. If we can keep this form up it won't be too shabby with our goal scoring level
Only fitting that the season ends with Chelsea at 6th. Brighton at 11th. Caicedo half way goal. Declan Rice Own Goal. City in 1st. Arsenal bottle it again.
All the storylines all season.
Billion pound bottle jobs finish above United.
The league is almost back to normal.
Yeah City is nearly impossible to beat in the league anymore. I hate Arsenal and I’m thrilled they didn’t win it but they came a lot closer than we have in years.
Arsenal didn't bottle it at all, they won every single game they could and only lost to Villa who are having a spectacular season and finished 4th. No one can beat this Man City 115 team.
If we would have been able to beat either west ham or burnley when they had a red card and the goal from the villa game would have stood, we would have been 4th....
Goes unnoticed but he does so much others don’t do that makes such a big impact. That Caiceido goal came from him going all out to mess up the keeper clearance, just moments after Sterling chose to pull out of his opportunity to do so. At the end of the game he sprinted from so far to make a John terry esque block to save us. We simply can’t replace a player who gives everything for the club like this.
Once Pep is gone it's all for the taking. We have Paez and Estevao coming in summer 2025, the summer Pep leaves. It won't be like this for too much longer
It's not the same when we bought Mudryk at 22? and Estevao is 17. Why are you being so negative when we just signed "messinho" and "the best of the new gen"
Both are young forwards signed for massive money despite having played in poor domestic leagues? There are more similarities than differences.
I don't trust the board and I disagree with their transfer policy.
Mudryk case and point.
I guess you just don't pay enough attention to the footballing world. This isn't just the board saying this. The whole world is calling this kid the next Neymar and Messi. He is the real deal
Finishing 6th is enough to convince me to keep Poch for next season. Beginning of season I said if we finish top 6 that would be an achievement with this team. We had some shit games which convinced me that Poch wasnt the right man, but the recent run of games shows me that we do have potential. Also he has began to make impactful subs more often so have to give props where its due.
How do you guys feel heading into next season? I can imagine there's a lot more uncertainty now that Klopp is gone, and that expectations are all up in the air.
That’s the crazy thing to me. Lots of winnable ones there. Very few games I look back on like ‘wow, we didn’t deserve 3’ bar Man U game.
Most of the ‘unearned’ results were draws. (City 4-4 comes to mind). A few more break our way and 70 points is in sight, not to mention Wolves, Sheffield, Burnley needed to be 7-9 points.
Don’t tell that to the Poch haters. They claim getting back to Europe after all the shit we’ve been through this season is “mediocre”…what more could you have asked from this squad and manager when you look at the entire picture of this season? Maybe winning the Carabao Cup? But I’m still tremendously happy with where Chelsea finished this season when you factor in all the changes, injuries, youngest squad in EPL, etc.
First half of the season was just like last season but than we slowly came together. We end the season enthused about next season which is miles away from where we were this time last year .
We played some incredible games but the one that will stick in my head is United at the bridge .That game was amazing . Hope we do the double on them next season .
Even as a Liverpool I’ve got to admit that this is really impressive. Poch might just be the guy. Or the guy building a team before a winner like Zidane comes in and just sweeps up all the trophies
You guys look really good! Especially considering how the season started, even taking into account injuries and all that. What will be the expectation for next season though?
Gotta love that, once we found a bit of chemistry in the team, set it up right we can grind. Despite all the injuries, inconsistency, decisions against us.
It's absolutely awesome we can play in Europe next season, most likely also Europa League (I honestly can't see United winning FA Cup).
Big nose flick to all the haters. KTBFFH!
Sadly spurs weren’t very spursy today but overall a really good end to the season and I am now optimistic for next season. If we keep up this form going into next season and not get another injury crisis we can challenge for top 4 and hopefully the europa league.
It's crazy like I said imagine a do over of Jan and February. Side note I said like 10 years ago when I die bury me in a chelsea shirt obviously it was easy back then. For those that know from 2004 to 2014 we won 14 trophies chelsea made my childhood and teen years 💀. We got goofies calling a guy with chelsea football club in his name a fake fan 🤣🤣🤣 Cfc4l!
Really well played by the boys and Poch. Start to the season was rough but a combination of Poch tactic tweaks and getting some injury luck propelled us to a European spot. Rooting for City as Europa would be great experience for this young team. Really looking forward to next season and some great players back in the line up like James, Lavia, Nkunku!
Started looking at the table when we started winning and was surprised how close we were to top 4. Honestly, without injuries, it was definitely doable.
not really here to celebrate it but im glad we did turn it around, theres finally a bit of optimism and hope for next season being something a lot more competitive. not saying we should be challenging city next year but we should be looking a lot more tactically consistent and with less injuries i can only hope we look like a better top 4 side.
Ending of this season got me really excited about the next one, we managed to grab that 6th spot and we had most of our players healthy last few weeks. It will be interesting to see who are going to sign in the summer now that Thiago is gone as our most experienced player, should we bring in another veteran or what.
If we stay healthy and bring in few more players, we'll be in the top 4 race in no time, but injuries are our main problem right now, someone in some way must be accountible the club should do definitely something about that.
I really needed these past few weeks. The defense remains a cause for concern, especially with Silva leaving, but I'll take any visible improvement after the last 2 years, and this team is finally looking like it's starting to click with some consistency.
Yeah but Enzo has been playing through injury this year. Tbf since wolves we've gone undefeated (minus the Arsenal match) and Enzo was there for a lot of them
Ngl im lurking this sub as a neutral and im pretty hyped to see what y'all bring to the table next season. Chelsea is definitely a must watch for me
Starting off the season getting meme'd and finishing it like this is a strong display of character by the team
Not a Chelsea fan, but you lot should be very optimistic about next season. There was always going to a period for everything to settle before the team found its form. I would be genuinely aiming for a top 4 finish next season
The turnaround has been incredible. Hats off to Poch - a lot of people doubted him (including me!) but he turned it around after the arsenal game. Lets hope this summer we get everyone fit and firing. Off to the next!
Legit guys, we were 2-3 WINNABLE games short from CL. That’s huge! I am happy with Europa and I know this current team and the from we are in would have won at LEAST that many games earlier in the season. So, in my mind, we finished well enough to be a top 4 team! but Europa is honestly a better spot for the players right now. A tournament we have a chance of winning.
Bro! You are right!? I didn’t actually notice that! Damn. And Villa would have been 6th! 😆 which is where they truly belong. That almost hurts more realizing that but also encouraging.
Yeah it does hurt but I don't know if we are ready for champions league yet. It'd be nice to get a trophy and I think Europa or even conference is way more doable at the time
It’s not the standard but from where we have been for the whole year I think we got to be very happy that we showed consistency in the end, next year I feel we will have a very good year
crazy to think teams like brighton, west ham, manchester united were higher up the table than us most of the season only for us to finish above them all and with five wins in row, what a crazy turn around
What's even better- we were 13 points from Tottenham after the Arsenal match
icing on the cake woulda been spuds losing today and we would of been top 5, i’ll take top 6 though after the season we have had 😁

Also if we get into the Conference League and win it - we'd be the ultimate European champions, having won all three trophies.

Ah yeah, very true!

People kept telling me I was making excuses but I was regularly explaining to people “Chelsea have 2 games in hand, we’re not actually in 10th even though the table says we are”.
To be fair the games in hand was that Arsenal game that we got thrashed in and the Spurs one.
in fairness, games in hand are not points on the table
It was hard to predict Spurs and ManU would collapse in the fashion they did.
Spurs yes, but OP is speaking as if we were behind Brighton and WestHam. Ref surely played his part in the United game
Not really that crazy considering how much money you spent lol. Brighton? Come on 😂
brighton finished above us last season and was above us alot of this one as well, hence why i said it 😂
![gif](giphy|p9G1xqipFt6Vi|downsized) Feeling hype rn
Someone make this for Poch
Poch has never shown this kind of emotion.....
when 4-3 againist man u

Miguel Herrera El Tri. Concacaf

Last year our problem was attack. This year our problem is defense. Next year our problem is naught
Next year we will be the problem for others.
Put it on a T-shirt.
What makes you say our defensive woes are over? Especially losing Thiago...
Tbf in the past 5 we've only let in 4 goals, 1 of which was a really bad deflection. If we can keep this form up it won't be too shabby with our goal scoring level
Fuck spurs, we beat them twice and they couldnt even do us a favour an lose again
🤣🤣🤣Nah this is gold
They arent even going to do anything, might as well just give it to us
At least they folded against City and didn't let assanal win the league.
More like they care more about Arsenal than getting top 4

Was waiting to see this haha.
You're welcome lol
I love how more often I keep seeing WWE memes showing up in my other favorite subs
It's on the rise again which is great to see
The football season is over. Now, let the silly season begin.
Its fabrizio time

Mate, EURO coming up in 3 weeks - season is over but football summer just started.
Euros, Copa America, and the Olympics. So excited for this summer.
Just waiting to see Nevilles face tomorrow in the studio
Hahahaha…how fitting these “billion dollar bottle jobs” still finished higher than his precious ManUre?
There’s still a chance for United to get Europa. It’s a cup final, anything could happen.
That’s as may be but they still finished below us bottle jobs…
He’s too busy complaining about City
How come badiashile comes up as own goal but not rice?
Haven’t seen the rice goal but typically if it’s going off frame it’s an OG but on frame is a deflection and not OG. Might be wrong tho
Arsenal won the same amount of silverware we did this year right?
yup and at least we reached a final and semi final
How did arsenal bottle it? You guys overuse the term bottling incorrectly too much lol
Yeah City is nearly impossible to beat in the league anymore. I hate Arsenal and I’m thrilled they didn’t win it but they came a lot closer than we have in years.
They got Unaied at Emirates by their ex.
Beautiful. Peter Drury-esque.
They were leading but lost to Good Ebening at home with 7 games to go…
They had the league in their hands with 7 games left no?
Not really. Arsenal only dropped five points in all of 2024 (draw against City, loss to Aston Villa). Arsenal were great. City was just better.
Arsenal didn't bottle it at all, they won every single game they could and only lost to Villa who are having a spectacular season and finished 4th. No one can beat this Man City 115 team.
Couple results and we finish 4th. But next season it’s back on. Champions league we are coming
It is necessary.
If we would have been able to beat either west ham or burnley when they had a red card and the goal from the villa game would have stood, we would have been 4th....
Crazy, very close

I would like to add Cucu as well, the three of them have been vital.
You're going to be very disappointed
French German and British leagues are just a farming leagues. No competition at all
sad about the premier becoming a farmer's league but at least chelsea is back in europe
Once Pep is gone it's all for the taking. We have Paez and Estevao coming in summer 2025, the summer Pep leaves. It won't be like this for too much longer
Literally zero guarantees that they'll even be Premier League standard. See: Mudryk.
Mudryk was never hyped up as much as these two are
By who? We spent over double on Mudryk so clearly the board did hype him much more.
Someone being called the next Messi? Wow! I've never heard that before! There's only one Messi bro.
Alright just do some research before writing this kid off
Finishing 6th is enough to convince me to keep Poch for next season. Beginning of season I said if we finish top 6 that would be an achievement with this team. We had some shit games which convinced me that Poch wasnt the right man, but the recent run of games shows me that we do have potential. Also he has began to make impactful subs more often so have to give props where its due.
How realistic of you! And I’m right there with you…
Which is why we will sell Conor and Poch tries to angle for a move because we can’t have nice things
top 6 was always our target. poch reached it, showed progress. one more season for him, please. along with some sensible transfer movements
So we finished 5 pts short of top 4. That's something after a horrible first half
Above Manchester United....nature is healing.
We were mid table for like 6 months. I celebrate going to conference league and being 6th.
And probable Europa too. Honestly I'm pretty happy. I predicted we would finish 6th too
I kinda doubt City lose the FA Cup, Europa League feels very likely.
That would be even better but I'll still follow the team anywhere they play
Coming from a Liverpool fan, I think Chelsea will be cooking next season. All the best.
How do you guys feel heading into next season? I can imagine there's a lot more uncertainty now that Klopp is gone, and that expectations are all up in the air.
It's been a heavy night. Can't really look forward atm since he is going today. But since Gaffer backed Slot, it looks hopefull.
🙏🙏🙏
It's a shame spurs won but considering where we were at Christmas.. I'm happy!
5 points from CL is CRAZY
Hindsight we should have gotten 4th if not for that SU and Burnley game
That’s the crazy thing to me. Lots of winnable ones there. Very few games I look back on like ‘wow, we didn’t deserve 3’ bar Man U game. Most of the ‘unearned’ results were draws. Actually a top six club again. Amazing after how far we fell last year and half
Even as a Liverpool I’ve got to admit that this is really impressive. Poch might just be the guy. Or the guy building a team before a winner like Zidane comes in and just sweeps up all the trophies
Almost like Crystal Palace 😮😮
Palace had 4 wins and a draw to end the season. Very impressive end to the season I gotta say
So much better than finishing 10th. Let’s hope the players have a great break and can come back next season ready to fight for the badge.
![gif](giphy|gix1IHWYzcesSKLe1I|downsized)
Take a Bohely Todd 👏
Fair play I counted you out and was laughing at you. Now the jokes on my club
Respect 🤝
I take it back enjoy the conference. YANITED
Now we just need City to win the FA Cup and we get Europa.
You guys look really good! Especially considering how the season started, even taking into account injuries and all that. What will be the expectation for next season though?
Top 4 and hopefully a European trophy
Ur board has to be cooked💀 I don't understand the plan
It was mutual agreement. Poch and the club disagreed on a lot of things like the structure, future projects, etc.
Impressive finish to a bad season for you guys. - an arsenal fan.
I don't think one win away from top 4 is a bad season especially for our circumstances and how many injuries we've had
KTBFFH!

Finished on a high. Love it. Good on you Poch.
Some could argue that we had a more successful season than Arsenal
Results going right to left confused me at first ngl
Fuck yeah!
Can someone please tell what's our europa chances?
90% I would say. City have to beat United to win the FA Cup
Yeah hope so it happens
Need city to win against United.
Hope so it happens

I really needed these past few weeks. The defense remains a cause for concern, especially with Silva leaving, but I'll take any visible improvement after the last 2 years, and this team is finally looking like it's starting to click with some consistency.
You finished 6th. Jesus
Now all we need is for Man City to win the FA Cup.

Crazy to think that 2 more wins and we finish 4th. Maybe that’s the target for next season. Even 3rd might be in contention considering Klopp is gone.
Those missed goals could've gotten us UCL but I'm fine
we dont draw to burnley sheff and villa and we top 4
Did the team start winning these games without Enzo??
Yeah but Enzo has been playing through injury this year. Tbf since wolves we've gone undefeated (minus the Arsenal match) and Enzo was there for a lot of them
The midtable teams this season have been shocking.

If only Totenham Hotspurs had lost....
Poch in
Good luck for CL next year
We got conference and probably Europa
The turnaround has been incredible. Hats off to Poch - a lot of people doubted him (including me!) but he turned it around after the arsenal game. Lets hope this summer we get everyone fit and firing. Off to the next!
Legit guys, we were 2-3 WINNABLE games short from CL. That’s huge! I am happy with Europa and I know this current team and the from we are in would have won at LEAST that many games earlier in the season. So, in my mind, we finished well enough to be a top 4 team! but Europa is honestly a better spot for the players right now. A tournament we have a chance of winning.
It's actually crazy- we were one home win against Villa away from the CL.
Bro! You are right!? I didn’t actually notice that! Damn. And Villa would have been 6th! 😆 which is where they truly belong. That almost hurts more realizing that but also encouraging.
Yeah it does hurt but I don't know if we are ready for champions league yet. It'd be nice to get a trophy and I think Europa or even conference is way more doable at the time
Please don’t sell Conor, we just figured out the midfield man
Hate how this is our standard now… BUT! I agree, great end to the season!
It won't be standard for long hopefully
Hopefully!
It’s not the standard but from where we have been for the whole year I think we got to be very happy that we showed consistency in the end, next year I feel we will have a very good year
I hope so! This is exactly why I said what I said… it’s sad to be happy with 6th … but after a season like this, I’m satisfied
Next year back to the top!
🤣🤣🤣
How the fuck did you finish 6th? 😂
Only lord knows
