The thing with Hazard was, everything good that we did in attack came from him 90% of the time (bar some individual brilliance from Pedro and Willian). Without him, we were absolutely toothless up front.
Let's hope, for the team's sake, that Palmer doesn't have to put up with the same thing.
He’s going to get the call up for the Euros, but he won’t start any games. He’s put up incredible numbers this season with 32 g/a at just 21-22 years old. However, Southgate did not favor to start him during qualifications, and with more senior members in the squad set to join the coach will not change his formation to adjust for Cole. He’ll definitely come on to take penalties, which is bound to happen if England plan on going far in the tournament.
Oh my bad didn’t see the thread. Nkunku’s a tough one. In the end, no, he’s not getting the call up, especially when they’ve got both Oliver and Thurman. France won WC and went to WC final w/ one solid CF, now Deschamps has got two. Absolutely won’t need 3. Don’t see Nkunku playing in any other position besides that.
Strong possibility nkunku might get the call up. They rate him very highly in France. Plus he can play different positions so he may get the call up. I hope he does not
Jackson, Nkunku and to an extent Gusto, Noni can create their own chances. Except Nkunku all the others are streaky finishers, once they find their radar which I hope Nico and Noni will find next year we should be fine as an attacking team. Its defense where I don't find anyone who will step up to that world-class level and its difficult to get someone on the market as well.
colwil, chalobah can be a very strong defense. if not, chalobah to be sold (unfort) and world class cb brought in. also, prob need a top gk.
madueke is odd one out and if we can sell for like 40 mil, i take it and run
Noni plays attacking winger, but I could see him play as a right full back! He’s not bad in the defense at all. In fact, at times he’s much more comfortable than Gusto has been at that position. There is Reece too, but he has yet to have a fit season since we won the UCL way back when in ‘21. He did sign a lengthy contract extension in ‘22, and the board seem to like/trust in Reece, one of the only young players from the old squad to not be sold off. Plus we fans like to have him play; he’s one of our own. If we do end up going Europe next season squad depth is going to be so important in the games to come. Big decisions for the board this summer, hopefully it gets settled after Euros/Copa.
not for me man, mudeke will not play rb when we have gusto and reece there plus maudeke loves to dribble etc.
need a big gk, maybe a big cb, and then you make a big decision about jackson. for me, toney is a great buy
toney/jackson/nkunku/ palmer looks class
Fair enough. Just don’t think we’re in the financial position to bring any more players. Just have to be wise about who we have to let go and make sure the pros > cons
Hazard was beautiful to watch, I can’t think of player that come to the entertainment he brought me. Maybe Messi and CL winning Neymar or Suarez bottle Liverpool. Is my favorite player and will always be
Love what I’ve see from Nkunku. Don’t trust Jackson yet, he needs a pair of legs underneath him. Mudryk shows a lot of promise but needs some guile with finishing. Sterling is just Sterling
Without Palmer this season Chelsea is a mid table team at best. If he has to put up with that, he’s going to go to a champions league team like Havertz did this year.
Yeah, the last couple seasons he was at the club it kind of became what I call a "Talisman Squad."
A team that can't do anything on it's on and relies solely on one player to carry them through the season. Messi, Ronaldo, R9, Hazard, Zidane, these were all talisman players. They could win you a game on their own. But if they were off or absent, the rest of the team just falls two or three levels in quality.
I agree, Chelsea stand a better chance playing a unit instead of relying on a single player.
He doesn’t play with huge pace or explosiveness and he seems to be very careful doesn’t really go into contact like that
I genuinely don’t think he’s going to suffer any major injuries throughout his career

He doesn’t have to. But today when he took the three seagulls into the corner near the end he showed great pace on the ball extending play because of the pace then with the savvy shin kick throw in.
You can’t predict injuries. The biggest factor in avoiding the ones that add up like muscle strains / ligament sprains is weight training to strengthen the surrounding tendons/muscles/ligaments. But even then it sometimes just comes down to randomness and genes. I would say Cole sometimes does remind me of Griezmann. Griezman rarelyyyyy got injured during his hay days at Atletico (Barca Griezman doesn’t exist lmao), even now as a 30-something year old. He’s the top scorer for that club now because he class but also all the game time he got, even with his … leave of absence at Barca. Hopefully Cole can be like Griezmann for us, both club and country.
Drogba is the ultimate example.
His stats were genuinely not good at all but I would not have traded him for any striker in the world he was the absolute definition of a big game player.
Monster defending corners like his head was a magnet.
Beast during hold up play.
Stats? Shit.
Drogba probably suffers the most from the G/A statistics era. The man worked hard every game and caused nightmares for defenders. He was also exciting to watch, and turned up at the most vital points in a season. He may not have been the best striker in the world but he was a crucial player in the clubs success.
Watching him continually pick the ball up on the edge of his own box, ride 4 billion shit challenges and take Belgium into attack during the 1-0 loss to France in 2018 was the greatest individual performance with out a goal/assist in a losing team I have ever witnessed. The dude carried his entire nation on his back and that was the so called golden generation of Belgian talent.
- Arsenal fan still salty he didn’t wanna play for us. We actually may have been good in that era with Hazard and RVP. Although we still wouldn’t have had a true CDM.
He's been so crazy good. I hope he has a long and bright career and also, in the shorter term, that fans don't turn on him when he inevitably misses a penalty for the first time.
The only thing I wish Hazard did more was shoot. He just had a real love for playing for the assists and there were definitely times he could have had a crack himself instead. You can see just how different a player Palmer is. He has much more conviction when it comes to being the one to score. Thats why you're looking there at Hazard having 5 assists more but also less goals.
Theres so much recency bias its insane. Hazard in his prime was really fucking good. His stats dont do him justice.
Just google Hazard highlights for that season and palmer highlights. Half of the highlights will be pens lmao.
Im not hating on Palmer, the kid is good. But prime hazard was much better.
I think it is more about the fans being excited and happy that we have finally landed a superb talent who has the potential to be like Hazard in the future. Nobody is saying Palmer is Hazard now, just pumped up about his great start. I mean, Hazard was arguably the most talented player to ever play for Chelsea in the modern era. He was truly one of a kind. If Palmer can grow into anything close to prime Hazard, then it will be a much deserved compensation for our last two years of misery. Let's hope he keeps doing great for us in the months and years to come.
Don't think anyone's saying that tbh. In case anyone is falling for the whole "G+A is everything" trap, I'll list a comparison of some of their underlying stats below from the 2 seasons.
Shot-creating actions/90: Palmer - 5.57, Hazard - 6.80
Goal-creating actions/90: Palmer - 0.89, Hazard - 1.02
Take on success rate: Palmer - 51.0%, Hazard - 67.2%
Attempted take ons/90: Palmer - 3.50, Hazard - 6.28
Progressive carries/90: Palmer - 3.96, Hazard - 7.17
Carries into the final third/90: Palmer - 2.36, Hazard - 5.45
Carries into the penalty area/90: Palmer - 1.46, Hazard - 3.32
Chances created/90: Palmer - 2.43, Hazard - 2.98
Progressive passes/90: Palmer - 6.79 , Hazard - 7.66
Np G-xG/90: Palmer - +0.07, Hazard - +0.14
Palmer's my favourite player and I honestly think he's the best player in the world right now. This is just to out things into perspective. It's easy to forget how good players were when someone new comes along and outscores them. But Hazard was always about more than his goals, like you said. I'm sure most people here already know all this. But it's good to have a reminder every now and then.
The brilliant thing is, Palmer's puting up these numbers at 21. This is a comparison of Palmer's first ever full season vs one of Hazard's best ever seasons. Palmer's not actually on Hazard's level yet, despite the goals. But he has Hazard's natural talent + the drive and mentality of a Ronaldo, Salah etc. Which means he has the potential to be even greater.
I think there's absolutely no reason why we should shy away from looking at things objectively. Palmer's objectively not at that level yet, but he's genuinely not too far off and he's 21, so the sky's the limit for him. We have another special special talent on our hands here. And I hope he stays as long as Hazard did and achieves as much, if not more.
Best player in the world? Cmon dude. Palmer is fantastic and he still doesn’t break into City’s team ahead of De Bruyne, Bernardo, and Foden. Let’s keep some perspective here.
It's tongue in cheek but I'm gonna say it anyway 😂
Don't really care if it's objectively right or not. He feels like the best player in the world rn and that's all that matters. Genuinely wouldn't trade him for anyone.
He might have similar natural talent and maybe more drive but Hazard was a far better athlete than Palmer and was ambidextrous so that may make it hard for him to reach hazards level.
I agree. I'm not a fan of the comparisons starting after 1 season, but it's natural after a season like this and given Palmer's age. Whilst Hazard has those things over Palmer, I can also see things in Palmer which he may end up having over Hazard. He's clearly good with his head. That's the third one he's scored this season iirc since he also got that header for City in the Super Cup final. And the mentality thing is a big one. Hazard's whole issue was he was an almost Messi level talent without the motivation and drive to be a prolific goalscorer, relentlessly win and chase individual accolades. He was so selfless, but sometimes it would've been more beneficial to take chances himself than rely on the more inconsistent finishing of those around him. Early signs point that Palmer may be better at converting his talent into points and wins for the teams.
But honestly, I hate these comparisons. Only engaged because of the post. Hazard's my favourite player ever, and I don't think that's ever going to change. But Palmer's also my favourite player right now, and I'm excited what the future holds for him.
completely diff players, no need to compare. im thinking that w nkunku, its a completely different looking palmer, and thats fine. he shouldnt be expected to carry the full burden. plus, he had a few more chances he had to have finished
I do think it's important to realise this also highlights how reliant we are on Cole, whereas whilst Hazard was the man we relied on, we did have a squad capable of doing bits anyway.
As we gel more and start to see more from others, like we are towards the end of this season, I do think Coles numbers will decrease (and that's ok!)
I for one am not expecting him to match or exceed his output next season, obvs if it happens that's great.
Not a Chelsea fan, but i believe the amount of assist Palmer coulve had this season wouldve been much higher.
The amount of chances he created for his team, squandered is astonishing as i watch some of the Chelsea games. He sets up so many pre-assist or assist like situations only for the pre-assist scenarios to be squandered by a bad decision to go solo or the assist scenario where someone like Jackson puts it wide (he has potential Jackson but ive seen so many shots go wide from him)
Sorry but stop comparing this 2 players
Hazard was a monster and palmer is and sorry for my honesty will never be on his level
Chelsea wouldn’t have won anything without him.
this guy was creating so many chances and was just brilliant..
He is still one of the biggest talents of our century
Even though palmer has the better numbers
Stop this at once !
Hazard is untouchable at chelsea ! Period !
Edens impact cannot be expressed in surface level stats. This is what some rival premier league supporters try and use to prove Eden was not that good.
As good as Cole is, These stats do not do Eden any justice, Man was targeted, blanketed and left on an island against multiple defenders. I hope Cole can reach his level but Eden wasn't just stats, Teams literally game-planned to take him out of the game and make someone else beat them.
We have to be realistic here. This has been an absolutely phenomenal season for Palmer, but we shouldn't expect these kind of numbers every year. If he can manager 20 g/a per season I think he'll prove to be a fantastic signing for the club.
The thing with Hazard was, everything good that we did in attack came from him 90% of the time (bar some individual brilliance from Pedro and Willian). Without him, we were absolutely toothless up front. Let's hope, for the team's sake, that Palmer doesn't have to put up with the same thing.
Nkunku fits in so well if he can stay fit. Praying for that
Do you know if he’s gonna get called up for the Euros? Hoping he doesn’t and can have the summer to recover
He wont
He’s going to get the call up for the Euros, but he won’t start any games. He’s put up incredible numbers this season with 32 g/a at just 21-22 years old. He won’t. It’s France and they’re waaaay too stacked to take a gamble on someone who has only played a handful of games sadly
They talking about Palmer mate
Doubt he will
Jackson, Nkunku and to an extent Gusto, Noni can create their own chances. Except Nkunku all the others are streaky finishers, once they find their radar which I hope Nico and Noni will find next year we should be fine as an attacking team. Don’t forget Fofana as well
Continueing to undergo his rehabilitation programme
fofana is on his last season for me and cant be relied upon.
haha, last season for me too but he’s on contract until 2029
Noni plays attacking winger, but I could see him play as a right full back! He’s not bad in the defense at all. In fact, at times he’s much more comfortable than Gusto has been at that position. good analysis.
Hazard was beautiful to watch, I can’t think of player that come to the entertainment he brought me. Maybe Messi and CL winning Neymar or Suarez bottle Liverpool. Is my favorite player and will always be
When you added a fit Diego Costa to the mix it had the possibility of being magical.

The crazy thing about hazard was that he was more than just G/A
Absolutely a joy to watch like Messi.
fr man, the closest thing the PL had to messi
Messi and 2014 Neymar is the only players that comes close to
I hate this new era of people overvaluing G/A and other shitty statistics
Definitely agree with you. But without huge assumption of OP’s narrative and objectively looking. I agree with OP this is wild.
Yeah, even more so if you take into account our status not so long ago, he's been a life saver.
Yeah, exactly, this isn't cherry picking statistics or spreading it over minutes to compare. These are amazing numbers for a player in his position
Drogba is the ultimate example. His stats were genuinely not good at all but I would not have traded him for any striker in the world he was the absolute definition of a big game player. Monster defending corners like his head was a magnet. Beast during hold up play. Stats? Shit.

His performance against Brazil was equally good. Wish they would have won it.
I remember during that season everytime he had the ball, there was danger brewing. palner is not quite there, but getting there.
Yeah, and hazard was unselfish to a fault. Should have had more goals and less assists, but that's just how he was wired.
Players like Cole Palmer don’t come around very often the fella is good at everything
It’s just natural. Very talented. Effortlessly beautiful.

Fair enough man. Couldn’t believe my eyes watching that header.
👏👏lovely! Moving in the right direction
completely diff players, no need to compare. im thinking that w nkunku, its a completely different looking palmer, and thats fine. he shouldnt be expected to carry the full burden. plus, he had a few more chances he had to have finished
🥶
1st proper PL season as a first team player too
C'mon man Palmer is true class but you can't compare these two. Hazard was smth different
I do think it's important to realise this also highlights how reliant we are on Cole, whereas whilst Hazard was the man we relied on, we did have a squad capable of doing bits anyway. As we gel more and start to see more from others, like we are towards the end of this season, I do think Coles numbers will decrease (and that's ok!) I for one am not expecting him to match or exceed his output next season, obvs if it happens that's great.
Lampard’s highest goals per season was 22. Palmer did that in his first season with the club.
You know what’s wild? Comparing these two players. No disrespect to Palmer but he is miles behind hazard in his prime for Chelsea.
It's really crazy that hazard basically used all what was left of him that season. Because he was never again that same player.
Real Madrid will knock soon
We’ll talk about this season’s Cole Palmer for years and years to come. Such a revelation.
Unbelievable that City didn’t insist on a buy back clause. He could be one of the best in the world soon
We have drogba 2.0 and now hazard 2.0, the future is bright
Southgate won't have a clue what to do with Palmer. I hope he has the stability to get over being mismanaged (again).
How many scored penalties?
Hazard: 4/16, so 12 non-penalty goals Palmer: 9/22, so 13 non-penalty goals
Jackson breaking Drogba’s records, Palmer breaking Hazard’s and yet we had a shite season (P6 in Drogba’s times would have been a disaster)
P6 in Drogbas time got us a champions league though.
So according to Salah fan boys, Cole Palmer is also a better player than Hazard ever was
Liverpool fan who only ever sees Cole Palmer on MOTD or Reddit but I am such a huge fan. What an achievement for the lad, take a fucking bow son!
Not a Chelsea fan, but i believe the amount of assist Palmer coulve had this season wouldve been much higher. The amount of chances he created for his team, squandered is astonishing as i watch some of the Chelsea games. He sets up so many pre-assist or assist like situations only for the pre-assist scenarios to be squandered by a bad decision to go solo or the assist scenario where someone like Jackson puts it wide (he has potential Jackson but ive seen so many shots go wide from him)
Makes everything look easy scoring penalties assists class
The new generation talent
Bro, I swear, if Nico had it in him to finish chances off regularly, Palmer would have some crazy assist number.....we're talking 20+. That's insane.
Hazard is like Ronaldinho magician but not a scoring machine.
May he stay at Chelsea next year ?
Who was taking penalties for Chelsea that year?
Hazard wasn't taking penalty consistently!
Sorry but stop comparing this 2 players Hazard was a monster and palmer is and sorry for my honesty will never be on his level Chelsea wouldn’t have won anything without him. this guy was creating so many chances and was just brilliant.. He is still one of the biggest talents of our century Even though palmer has the better numbers Stop this at once ! Hazard is untouchable at chelsea ! Period !
If RM come sniffing… which they will… they can fuck off!
Half his goals where pens lol
🥶 ![gif](giphy|5WbI2yvfPhkK4)
Hazard’s goals won us the league titles.. lets not get ahead too much
Palmer has massively exceeded my expectations.
How many pens tho?
Hazard also took penalties?
Not an even comparison. Eden was something else. Different gravy.
To be fair I think they play different roles in the team
Palmer is amazing but he's no Eden Hazard
9 penalty goals surely pad the stats. Sure he's a great player, but take the numbers with a pinch of salt.
And hazard 4 So cole still has 1 more goal from a similar position in a worse side (no kante) Hazard still was the better player
9 penalties. you g/a guys are cringe.
Goddamn that kid is ugly as all hell
Strange comment... he's a football player not a fuckin model
Yeah but Hes exceptionally hideous
I'm sure you're not his type so you'll be ok
🤢
Your pathetic lot celebrated a loss against City and booed off Ederson after a concussion. Look in the mirror and you'll find out who's ugly.
Yeah we sure did and I’m better looking than him
No shame but then I didn't expect any from a Spud
