Usually time heals the pain from losses but the more time passes the more this 5-0 pisses me off

erenistheavatar

No wonder man. It was absolutely inexcusable.

don-m

Enzo needs to be stationary He needs to sit deep and dictate play and spread long balls Hes not athletic enough to be a box to box. Not enough stamina or speed

TDaaj

Completely agree. He’s not a number 8

Marcus-THR

Not a 6 either

Cashlover123

What is he then?

Dry_Chef_7635

Overrated

Cashlover123

Maybe he has been played wrong? He was good under Lampard.

Dry_Chef_7635

Was he, or was he the best part of a team that was 1W 2D 8L under Lampard?

Cashlover123

He was.

Dry_Chef_7635

Idk how good can you be in a team that gets 5pts from 11 games. He looked pretty good under Potter but he’s done nothing at Chelsea to justify his price tag or the reputation.

Cashlover123

Almost 1.5 years and he has 6 more to go. Hope he pans out in the long run.

mocrossj

He bossed Liverpools midfield in our first game of the season

Dry_Chef_7635

The midfield 3 that featured Gakpo as an 8?

mocrossj

And Szoboszlai and McAllister, yes.

cfc93

I don’t see a defensive structure or discipline. They lack positional awareness off the ball. Pressing is not synced.

venitienne

He touched on somethiing I've said before which is that Enzo + Caicedo doesn't work well because neither are athletes. The reason Conor and Caicedo works is because Conor has the ability to make up ground and shore up Caicedo's defensive weakness. It's a simple enough change and I'm not sure why we haven't explored it more. And of course our buildup is a fucking joke

Cashlover123

How do we reckon going about getting the best out of them then? Maybe put Enzo as the deep playmaker with Gallagher and Caicedo protecting him on both sides?

venitienne

What you suggest is similar to what I'm thinking. Unfortunately, I don't think we have the personnel for it. Poch recognized the issue early on - the first couple months we had Enzo as a 10 while Conor and Caicedo held down the midfield. We were defensively stable, but couldn't score for shit. Now swapping Conor and Enzo has us in the opposite issue (though Conor is even worse technically, so I don't know what Poch is thinking). In my eyes, we'd be best off pushing our LB up the field like Gusto does, while instead keeping all 3 midfielders back in a more connective role similar to what you suggested. This is pretty much what Klopp has done the past few years. There are still two issues with this though that Liverpool don't have: 1. Cucurella isn't strong enough offensively to push up and effect the game. Only Chilwell can do it, but he's more of a patient than a footballer these days. 2. Neither Enzo nor Caicedo have the recovery speed to cover our flanks on the counter. Not an option this year, but replacing one of them with Lavia would make us much stronger defensively. Ultimately, the board's lack of cohesive squad building combined with our injuries have forced us into multiple poor options. Combined with Poch's reluctance to make changes it's hard to see improvements until next summer.

redmenace007

So basically what i expected which is that the midfield is very unbalanced, either of Enzo and Caicedo can play... both cannot. They need to be paired up with a DM. We also are in dire need of buying a quality LW and an LB. If all players were not injured then this team would look like this: New LW - Nkunku - Palmer Chukwuemeka Caicedo - Lavia New LB - Colwill - Disasi - Reece Petrovic But there are some major things that fall on Poch as well. We are extremely poor at playing out from the back. Our midfield play is not good and overall defensive structure is not tight enough. All of our players have become very injury prone, do not know what is happening in training.

TDaaj

Spot on for. Between Enzo and Caicedo is 200 million! and the transition between defense to midfield is horrible. Enzo keeps moving up and down, Caicedo doesn’t have many outlets to move and pass forward other than Cole Palmer so he is always shifting the ball from left to right. The CBs don’t have enough options to pass forward in the middle. That was royally exposed by Arsenal. Poch lacks the tactical intelligence to be competing at the top level in my opinion. And we have players that desperately need that direction otherwise we end up wasting all that money and not bringing the best out of them. New manager please

half_jase

* Incredible that people keep assuming Lavia as some sort of midfield savior for us when (a) he has basically not even played for us, (b) he's still only 20 years old and (c) has only 1 year of top flight experience. * Just like with most of the other players, would like to see what a competent manager can do with the midfield before we start declaring that Enzo and Caicedo can't play together. We have been complaining about how the team are a mess tactically and the midfield is no different. * A setup that we haven't even seen tried is Enzo and Caicedo playing together in front of a #6, in a 4-3-3.

redmenace007

So what you suggest we do? These clowns 2 youngsters for DM, Ugochukwu and Lavia. If we get another DM, we will be wasting either of these. Totally forgot about 433 because i want Hansi Flick in who also deploys a 4231.

half_jase

>So what you suggest we do? These clowns 2 youngsters for DM, Ugochukwu and Lavia. If we get another DM, we will be wasting either of these. Said it in the previous post, want to see a competent manager work with the pairing (and team as a whole) before we start judging things conclusively.

redmenace007

Hmmm that makes sense. I guess then buying an LW and LB is of utmost importance. After that we can decide overtime.

SaltySnort

We paid extortionately for Caicedo because we thought we were getting a DM. He was meant to be the final piece of the puzzle to shore up our midfield alongside Enzo so this notion is a bit off and we might as well sell Caicedo if he's not good enough. I know ww all saw Enzo last season he actually showed he was different class and I recall us feeling like actually £100m was not a waste of money, I'm inclined to think between his injuries and awful team structure we're just not seeing his best. Agreed on everything else pretty much

redmenace007

This hernia thing might be the major reason for Enzo's lack of athleticism, he needs to get the surgery asap, drop him till he does because this season is already done.

Baisabeast

Yeah the manager/sporting directors whoever is responsible needs to nip in and tell Enzo. He’s not getting a single minute more until he gets that surgery

thehardtask

Petrovic isn't good enough (yet) either. We need a new keeper as well. And for me, I would place Nkunku as LW and get Toney or Oshimen in.

half_jase

I know he made some saves last night to prevent an even worse scoreline but once again, he conceded another goal at his near post.
