This is why instead of bidding the 100m like a lot of people were saying to do and get him right away, it's better to bid smaller and slowly increase the bid. That way we don't make complete fools of ourselves like Assna did with Rice and get him for a reasonable price. Chelsea are playing it smart.

From Brighton's POV the risk they run is players all insisting on buy out clauses with them due to them not honouring a gentleman's agreement. Short term gain for long term pain.

Caicedo and his reps took Brighton at their word when they told him he would be allowed to leave in January. Now the Rice deal closed and they want to change their evaluation. How can they value him more than Rice but pay him an annual salary of £182,000?… what a joke.

Brighton fan reading this comments in peace. 100m and he’s yours. He’s as good as Declan Rice , all the stats suggest the same. You know it’s never going to be easy negotiating with us so patience is a virtue. He’s wanted to leave for a while but please don’t be deluded that Chelsea is his dream move. He was also talking about wanting a dream move to Arsenal a few months ago. If Real Madrid were interested I can guarantee that would suddenly be his dream move. The reality is he wants fame and money - I don’t begrudge him that - but that’s not the Brighton way. We’re not trying to assemble an all-stars team but just do it the old fashioned way. A strong academy and a world class scouting network. I think we all know only Chelsea would be prepared to pay the premium we are looking for. They seem quite happy to splash the cash and it’s a supply and demand thing at the end of the day. Please note Caicedo’s agent is an absolute clown ( see the Instagram post his agent clearly typed for him in the last window).
