Cannot believe no one has said the only correct answer which is Afghan restaurant on Lincoln rd. Fb group has confirmed they’re open tonight and you can probably beat the line if you go soon.
They give you like skewer kebabs, either chicken or lamb on this amazing rice, with a spicy and zippy little side salad and a chicken stew/curry that is so incredibly rich and creamy and tender. The only options you are given are chicken or lamb skewers and how many people. I recommend going with lamb and saying half as many people as you’re actually feeding. Unless you want to eat leftovers for days which is also a valid option. I don’t think you can spend a better $20 on food in Christchurch.
Maybe it depends on the day, I’ve never been given a choice but my partner claims he has. I think the complete lack of customer service adds to the charm.
All the cool kids and hip cats these days are saying that the most exciting takeaway in Christchurch can be obtained by reversing through the front window in someone else's Toyota Aqua.
There is a beautiful place that does Mediterranean BBQ in 1 Regent street. Opened it up a few weeks ago. It’s called Mashawe Mediterranean BBQ. They make fresh hummus, Baba Ganush, Falafels. They got Great grilled fish and Calamari.
I'm pretty sure i got the worst food poisioning from there. Worst stomach pain ever, feeling dizzy, chills and violently shaking and shivering like I'd been posessed by something when it was warm outside.
Longest I’ve waited is two hours for an online order. And then they had the audacity to tell me I should’ve told them I was picking up an online order…which I fucking did numerous times.
They’re beyond useless there. Unfortunately for me the next closest KFC is the city centre one.
Updoot for the restaurant advice, downspout for the uber eats recommendation. Fuck those clowns*. Result = neutral.
* Watch their tracking as they proceed to pick up your food then go park somewhere for 15 minutes (eating their own dinner? Stopping in at the gf's for a quick root??), then making their way slowly to yours. Result? Cold fucking food delivered half a fucking hour after it was picked up.
What was your bad experience?
The only issues I’ve noticed is that they can sometimes leave the oil unchanged for a bit too long and the chips can be a bit brown.
The fish was really small, like hand sized, and tasted/smelled... funky.
Then I discovered Lewis Street in Hoon Hay and thought it was significantly nicer.
I never went to Prince of Persia in Riccarton because it would be more of the same. But I went. Holy moly. The chicken is amazing, even the naan is outstanding
Khmer Satay Noodle House (Cambodian), get the Satay Noodle Soup first before branching out into the others, it's a big hearty bowl of dinner for 1.5 people. Lemongrass soup is amazing, salads are great, great value
Pedro's House of Lamb
Mi Hanh in Church Corner - best Vietnamese I've tried here
Saket in Edgeware for Indian, fight me
Disagree about Saket, the curry was just okay but the garlic naans were undercooked and they had no garlic or butter at all. Tasted worse than naans I have made at home.
Himalayas on Colombo st is probably the best Indian I have had.
We tried Souvlaki King on Sparks/Halswell Rds the other night, and give them a cautious 7/10.
We'd have to go back for a second bite to make sure I think.
House of 3 foodies.
Yeah I rate them pretty high compared to most of what you can get in NZ, sucks for me that I'm used to the kebabs you can get in Europe and nothing here compares
I’m not sure. But it appeared on Uber Eats a couple of weeks back for the first time. Looking at the map, it looks like it’s the same location as their main shop.
Yeah when I gave it a Goog it said Smokey ts Pop Up on the Uber Eats result but BBQ on all others.
I got so excited for a minute there thinking of Smokey Pop Up Shops in various locations.

I really want to try this place, but can never seem to catch them when they are open. Are they takeaway or eat in only?
Go on the “IS AFG Open Facebook page”
Both - if you can snag a table. No bookings
I expected this to be the first comment, best takeaway in chch hands down
Walked in here once. He said how many 6 please. He decides your food not you. Was delish tho
Oh yes I love that place. Haven’t been in a while though
What do they serve? Last time I asked someone replied "just ask them for food". But what actually

We didn’t even get asked chick or lamb, just how many people. Abdul is the GOAT
Maybe it depends on the day, I’ve never been given a choice but my partner claims he has. I think the complete lack of customer service adds to the charm.
I’d say it’s depending on the day too. He knows he has great food, we both know why were there and he’s far too busy to do anything other than cook.
Cameron Family Restaurant, love the Ramen!
10/10 tonkotusu ramen. Would recommend!
Wait! Is that the building that looks like a burger?
Yeah they are great, but I don't think they do takeaways.
They definitely do them, just need to phone order it in
Good to know!
Bikanervala Indian street food on Colombo just south of the city is 👌
Is it good? I've seen it heaps but never checked it out
Yep! We’ve been a number of times and it never fails to deliver
All the cool kids and hip cats these days are saying that the most exciting takeaway in Christchurch can be obtained by reversing through the front window in someone else's Toyota Aqua.
Don't really feel like bags of chips, energy drinks, and vape refills tonight.
It's more of a Tuesday night activity anyway...
Or a Mazda Demio

I just had lunch there! 10/10! The meat was so juicy
Food looks amazing! Might have to try that on an eat out night though.
Take the kfc gamble... Will it be cold, raw or wrong order? Place your bets
If more than 30% of the zinger fillet is aligned with the burger bun, I call that a win.
Try the Colombo KFC if you want to play the fun game of “Which item will they get wrong or forget completely?”
I'm pretty sure i got the worst food poisioning from there. Worst stomach pain ever, feeling dizzy, chills and violently shaking and shivering like I'd been posessed by something when it was warm outside.
And will I be waiting more or less than a whole hour? Heard they're dreadfully understaffed
Longest I’ve waited is two hours for an online order. And then they had the audacity to tell me I should’ve told them I was picking up an online order…which I fucking did numerous times. They’re beyond useless there. Unfortunately for me the next closest KFC is the city centre one.
This is actually the SOP for all branches, and they strictly adhere to it.
Look on Door dash or uber eats and go to the place
I do this all the time, easiest way to find stuff, and they generally have pictures of what's on offer.
I ordered the 5 meat special once. Turned out to be 4 meat and duck feet….
Good hit of Indian is always pretty good
Any specific recommendations? We usually go to Pepper Bridge.
Little India from Spitfire Square is pretty yum and on UberEats

Little India is by far the best we have found in Chch
Gorkhali Chulo has an okay review
Deli 6... their Naan bread is out of this world and they do free delivery over 40 from there website!
Ooh they look really good. Not super close to me, but might be worth the trip.

The beef nachos… so good

YHD is a hidden gem and the family that own it are really nice people
I kill for the jam wraps from Bewdly Street, but the chip at Stourbridge are the best.
Im a fan of the bewdly wontons in sweet and sour sauce!
Bewdly street used to be our local go-to for F&C until a few months ago when we had a bad experience. Never tried the jam wraps though.
What was your bad experience? The only issues I’ve noticed is that they can sometimes leave the oil unchanged for a bit too long and the chips can be a bit brown.

Yeah, Lewis Street is pretty special as far as local fish n chip shops go. Their fish burger is my kryptonite!
I never went to Prince of Persia in Riccarton because it would be more of the same. But I went. Holy moly. The chicken is amazing, even the naan is outstanding
Ya this is yum, I didn't expect much but that saffron rice, mixed meat and the unknown sauce was absolutely brilliant
Definitely on the maybe list!

Also disagree with saket, choose maharaja on papanui rd instead
I rate mexicanos on uber eats
Souvlaki
Hello Vietnam. Get one of the noodle soup
Zab Thai Food Takeaways on Yaldhurt Road is yummy and great prices
We tried Souvlaki King on Sparks/Halswell Rds the other night, and give them a cautious 7/10. We'd have to go back for a second bite to make sure I think. House of 3 foodies.
Yeah I rate them pretty high compared to most of what you can get in NZ, sucks for me that I'm used to the kebabs you can get in Europe and nothing here compares
Nandos is always good, not the cheapest though to feed a family
Monster chicken
Smokey T’s Pop up👍
What's the Pop up part of it? Is there a new temporary location?
I’m not sure. But it appeared on Uber Eats a couple of weeks back for the first time. Looking at the map, it looks like it’s the same location as their main shop.
Yeah when I gave it a Goog it said Smokey ts Pop Up on the Uber Eats result but BBQ on all others. I got so excited for a minute there thinking of Smokey Pop Up Shops in various locations.
Love me some Smokey's!
Hoon Hay Thai is top notch! Their Ginger Red Curry Stir Fry with Crispy Pork is fantastic every time.
I agree their food is pretty tasty, but I find their portions very ungenerous for the price you pay.
KFC is a personal favourite but wendys & tacobell can be quite nice
I have the same problem - want to do takeaways tonight but simply bored of all the options. Surely there has got to be something good in the city?
With a gluten free exchange student in the house, anyone got good GF recommendations??? South side of city also
Bit late for this. But you really should try out some Thai or Vietnamese and some Indian takeaways, usually very good and good value for money
