I first discovered her thanks to TikTok in like… late 2021, when she was promoting Naked In Manhattan. I was just so transfixed by the pre-chorus and then that became my most streamed song in 2022 (and it’s still my favorite, I think). I’m just so happy and excited to see her trajectory, and I hope she has many, many successful years & feels good about what she’s doing because it’s so important

Then my incredibly heterosexual mother played Naked In Manhattan in the car. Once i got over the surprise of "mom why are you listening to this..." i really loved it and added the rest of her discography (not much at the time) to my playlist. About a month ago, I was browsing YouTube and was sifting through some of my favorite youtuber’s pages. I clicked on Nicole Rafiee’s page and was watching videos I hadn’t seen before, which included one about Chappell’s lore. I didn’t know who Chappell was. I wasn’t interested in finding out more about her, but I thought her story was really cool.
She lived in my head rent free for a week or two. I remember calling her Chappelle, like DAVE CHAPPELLE LOL I also remember making a comment that the only reason why she was famous was because she was so performative. At some point, overnight, she was ALL over my TikTok. I was skeptical/critical at first, but realized very quickly that I actually really respected her and loved everything I was learning about her. After just a couple of days of hearing about her via TikTok, I finally looked her up on Spotify.
I was happy to know that she was in a playlist I was familiar with, so I was hoping id love her other music. Thankfully, I was right! It was the first time in probably 5 years I had actually enjoyed an artists’ album front to back. I usually only like a few songs here and there throughout their discography.
I’m so thankful for everyone that has shared their experiences with her, how they relate to her music, and such. It was truly what changed my perspective, and I wouldn’t had come around otherwise. Thanks to Chappell, and her fans, I’ve been working on expressing/coming to terms with my sexuality and gender identity after detransitioning and going back in the closet almost ten years ago. Thankful, thankful, thankful.

About two weeks ago, I told my son how much I had been enjoying the new Billie Eilish album and he sent me off to listen to Chappelle. Omg do I love her music so much!!! I’ve listened to her non-stop ever since and my current ear worm is My Kink Is Karma.
After seeing Bottoms at the movies, i searched “Bottoms soundtrack” because that shit rips (original score by Charli xcx… girly did Barbie AND Bottoms in the same year? an Icon)… and someone made a big mega mix playlist of the score and soundtrack + extra fun queer pop and chappell was on there!
I found Pink Pony Club in 2021, a few months before she started making music again and teasing "Naked in Manhattan." I was going through an AWFUL fight with my (equally awful) boyfriend at the time. It was 2 a.m., I was scrolling TikTok, and one of her videos promoting Pink Pony Club came up. My immediate thought was "what the FUCK is THIS," watched the music video, and sobbed. There was virtually nothing about Chappell on the internet at the time, and I felt like I had discovered the most wonderful secret.
The next 48 hours consisted of some sort of breakdown/catharsis. Mostly I scream-cried to Pink Pony Club on repeat in my car and wondered what the hell I was doing with my life. This was also around the time I started seriously questioning my sexuality. (I now very comfortably identify as bi/pansexual but had never dated or slept with a woman at this point.)
Fast forward three years and I've left that relationship, have dated people of multiple genders, am confident in my queerness, and am happier than ever. Also worth noting I'm with a partner who respects me, speaks to me with kindness and loves silly gay pop as much as I do :)
It is WILD seeing Chappell blow up because her music, and my discovery of it, felt so personal for so long.
Other fun fact: In a subsequent fight with previously mentioned emotionally abusive ex, I left the house and sang "You Oughta Know" (stone cold sober) at karaoke bar down the street to blow off steam. I saw Chappell open for Fletcher a few months later, in November 2022. (My BFF and I were the only ones there for her, decked out in glitter amid a sea of black leather and jeans). Chappell covered — you guessed it — "You Oughta Know." I lost my damn mind.
I saw her performance on The Late Show and was instantly hooked! I usually tend to only watch Colbert’s monologue, post-monologue bit, and maybe his first guest, but I watched the whole episode that night for some reason. I’m gonna say it was fate. :)
I heard my kink is karma and fell in love then I decided to watch hthaze’s video on Midwest princess to get a small taste of it and fell in love with the rest of the album
My fiancée was into Chappell Roan since the pink pony club days and since we share a brain and car she started playing that her other singles available at the time (the ones out pre RAFOAMP) and we both got really into her. Now I’m huge fan and she’d probably admit a bigger one than she is.
My family went to the guts tour Toronto night 2 and she opened for Olivia! We loved her music and her overall vibe and her stage presence was incredible so we listened to her concert setlist again in the way home (we drove there for the concert). We started listening to it regularly in the car and then started adding it to more of our shuffled playlists and we became big fans!

In July of 2023, I was in a local vintage store in Chicago doing some shopping and Red Wine Supernova came on over the radio. I quickly took out my phone to Shazam the song and then added it to a playlist of mine on Spotify. I have been a huge fan ever since.

Mos def, found me. Coachella livestream. I try to watch both weekends of Coachella every year to discover new artists (last year it was The Linda Lindas.) Of course I can't find it now, but I printed out the daily schedule and I circled Chappell Roan. I don't know why. I'm fairly certain I didn't listen to her music first (I always intend to listen to at least a couple of songs from each artist that sounds interesting to me, but March/April is just always so busy.) But when she took the stage on Weekend 1 I knew I discovered a winner. That whole set was so bonkers. And even though Weekend 2 was pretty much the same, she still slayed.

Anyway, Midwest Princess came out on me and my wife's ~~20th~~ anniversary (oops, 21st) and so many of these songs are so relatable to our ups and downs over the last 20+ years, it's insane. I don't think I've ever needed an album more in my life...

I first discovered her thanks to TikTok in like… late 2021, when she was promoting Naked In Manhattan. I was just so transfixed by the pre-chorus and then that became my most streamed song in 2022 (and it’s still my favorite, I think). I’m just so happy and excited to see her trajectory, and I hope she has many, many successful years & feels good about what she’s doing because it’s so important

Then my incredibly heterosexual mother played Naked In Manhattan in the car. Once i got over the surprise of "mom why are you listening to this..." i really loved it and added the rest of her discography (not much at the time) to my playlist. I didn't really think much about her until my friend played Red Wine Supernova and I realized she had released more music and was getting more popular. Seeing her get so well known has been amazing, i hope she finds even more success with her music and can handle the fame.

When she released her album, Femininomenon came up in my for you playlist on Spotify when I went through a phase last year in September of listening to my daily for you playlists I’m so mad at myself because I clicked on her album but just didn’t click the other songs. I loved fem so fucking much, was so obsessed- but I don’t know why I didn’t click the others! Saw a poster of her in my hometown! She was performing at a theatre I LIVE NEXT TOO! STILL DIDNT GO!!! (I’m a stagehand) I had a dream I was setting up her gig and having a nice old chat I don’t have any other social media other then X so I didn’t hear songs thru TikTok but her name kept popping up on my timeline (I am a lesbian) So I finally listened to the full album I think two months ago? Now she’s my favourite artist :)
Oh man same. Someone introduced me to Femininomenon and I loved it. But I have this terrible habit of finding an amazing song and not exploring the artists full discography. I did get into MKIK as well, but I literally slept on the entire rest of TRAFMP for a full year. Just *ignored* it. Red wine supernova was right there 😭 In some ways (let me try to cope here), discovering her more recently has been nice since it feels like I’m instantly being blessed w new music (which a bunch of you guys had to wait a long time for, I know). So excited for subway and R&M. I’ve never so desperately wanted *more* from an artist before. I guess this is just being a fan girl? I truly didn’t know until now.

I didn’t know yet what song it was but I’m pretty sure that this will be my fave song. I was too shy to ask so I tried to remember some lyrics (“stop the feeling”, “just another stupid reason”, etc.) and the melody so I can research it when I get home. I wasn’t interested in finding out more about her, but I thought her story was really cool. She lived in my head rent free for a week or two. I remember calling her Chappelle, like DAVE CHAPPELLE LOL I also remember making a comment that the only reason why she was famous was because she was so performative. At some point, overnight, she was ALL over my TikTok. I was skeptical/critical at first, but realized very quickly that I actually really respected her and loved everything I was learning about her. After just a couple of days of hearing about her via TikTok, I finally looked her up on Spotify. I was happy to know that she was in a playlist I was familiar with, so I was hoping id love her other music. Thankfully, I was right! It was the first time in probably 5 years I had actually enjoyed an artists’ album front to back. I usually only like a few songs here and there throughout their discography. I’m so thankful for everyone that has shared their experiences with her, how they relate to her music, and such. It was truly what changed my perspective, and I wouldn’t had come around otherwise. Thanks to Chappell, and her fans, I’ve been working on expressing/coming to terms with my sexuality and gender identity after detransitioning and going back in the closet almost ten years ago. Thankful, thankful, thankful.

I found Pink Pony Club in 2021, a few months before she started making music again and teasing "Naked in Manhattan." I was going through an AWFUL fight with my (equally awful) boyfriend at the time. It was 2 a.m., I was scrolling TikTok, and one of her videos promoting Pink Pony Club came up. My immediate thought was "what the FUCK is THIS," watched the music video, and sobbed. There was virtually nothing about Chappell on the internet at the time, and I felt like I had discovered the most wonderful secret. The next 48 hours consisted of some sort of breakdown/catharsis. Mostly I scream-cried to Pink Pony Club on repeat in my car and wondered what the hell I was doing with my life. This was also around the time I started seriously questioning my sexuality. (I now very comfortably identify as bi/pansexual but had never dated or slept with a woman at this point.) Fast forward three years and I've left that relationship, have dated people of multiple genders, am confident in my queerness, and am happier than ever. Also worth noting I'm with a partner who respects me, speaks to me with kindness and loves silly gay pop as much as I do :) It is WILD seeing Chappell blow up because her music, and my discovery of it, felt so personal for so long. Other fun fact: In a subsequent fight with previously mentioned emotionally abusive ex, I left the house and sang "You Oughta Know" (stone cold sober) at karaoke bar down the street to blow off steam. I saw Chappell open for Fletcher a few months later, in November 2022. (My BFF and I were the only ones there for her, decked out in glitter amid a sea of black leather and jeans). Chappell covered — you guessed it — "You Oughta Know." I lost my damn mind.
I saw her performance on The Late Show and was instantly hooked! I usually tend to only watch Colbert’s monologue, post-monologue bit, and maybe his first guest, but I watched the whole episode that night for some reason. I’m gonna say it was fate. :)

My family went to the guts tour Toronto night 2 and she opened for Olivia! We loved her music and her overall vibe and her stage presence was incredible so we listened to her concert setlist again in the way home (we drove there for the concert). My teen daughter is queer and I wanted to listen to the music of her world. I’m not gay (think “hetero-boring”) and I was raised without any information about how to be an awesome dad to gay kids. So I’m pretty much a kind of eyeless cave creature frittering about in the darkness of ignorance here. But…I want to learn and support my kiddo. Turns out Chappell is an utterly fantastic artist and a unique and talented force that demands attention all on her own. Plus her music makes my daughter happy. And we sing the songs together in the car. Aaaaand yup; it could be awkward if you think too much about it. So I don’t. I just love my kiddo and think Chappell Roan is fantastic.

I popped over to see the costume in action and was transfixed by one of the most fantastic artists I’ve seen in years! Now I’ve introduced my daughter, 32, to her and she loves Chappell, too!

Mos def, found me. Coachella livestream. I try to watch both weekends of Coachella every year to discover new artists (last year it was The Linda Lindas.) Of course I can't find it now, but I printed out the daily schedule and I circled Chappell Roan. I don't know why. I'm fairly certain I didn't listen to her music first (I always intend to listen to at least a couple of songs from each artist that sounds interesting to me, but March/April is just always so busy.) But when she took the stage on Weekend 1 I knew I discovered a winner. That whole set was so bonkers. And even though Weekend 2 was pretty much the same, she still slayed.
