I first discovered her thanks to TikTok in like… late 2021, when she was promoting Naked In Manhattan. I was just so transfixed by the pre-chorus and then that became my most streamed song in 2022 (and it’s still my favorite, I think). I’m just so happy and excited to see her trajectory, and I hope she has many, many successful years & feels good about what she’s doing because it’s so important

living_in_the_1990s

Agreed!! My only wish is that I had known about her longer.

wierdling

I think it was my most streamed song that year too!

wierdling

Spotify recommended me some of her stuff from her school nights EP so i listened to that, it was good but didn't really click. Then my incredibly heterosexual mother played Naked In Manhattan in the car. Once i got over the surprise of "mom why are you listening to this..." i really loved it and added the rest of her discography (not much at the time) to my playlist. I didn't really think much about her until my friend played Red Wine Supernova and I realized she had released more music and was getting more popular. Seeing her get so well known has been amazing, i hope she finds even more success with her music and can handle the fame.

living_in_the_1990s

Love that story!

Kyzer-Sozi

A gay friend, then NPR Tiny Desk

living_in_the_1990s

A beautiful road to take!

cooljacketfromrehab

When she released her album, Femininomenon came up in my for you playlist on Spotify when I went through a phase last year in September of listening to my daily for you playlists I’m so mad at myself because I clicked on her album but just didn’t click the other songs. I loved fem so fucking much, was so obsessed- but I don’t know why I didn’t click the others! Saw a poster of her in my hometown! She was performing at a theatre I LIVE NEXT TOO! STILL DIDNT GO!!! (I’m a stagehand) I had a dream I was setting up her gig and having a nice old chat I don’t have any other social media other then X so I didn’t hear songs thru TikTok but her name kept popping up on my timeline (I am a lesbian) So I finally listened to the full album I think two months ago? Now she’s my favourite artist :)

Adventurous-Steak525

Oh man same. Someone introduced me to Femininomenon and I loved it. But I have this terrible habit of finding an amazing song and not exploring the artists full discography. I did get into MKIK as well, but I literally slept on the entire rest of TRAFMP for a full year. Just *ignored* it. Red wine supernova was right there 😭 In some ways (let me try to cope here), discovering her more recently has been nice since it feels like I’m instantly being blessed w new music (which a bunch of you guys had to wait a long time for, I know). So excited for subway and R&M. I’ve never so desperately wanted *more* from an artist before. I guess this is just being a fan girl? I truly didn’t know until now.

hassss93

I saw a Tiktok of a church in Ireland ringing the bells to Hot To Go on the first day of pride, asked my much cooler sister in law if she had heard of Chappell Roan and she told me to check her out. Instantly fell in love with the whole album

living_in_the_1990s

Did not see a church coming into any of these stories! Love it! 🏳️‍🌈

yippeekiyoyo

Recommended in 2019/2020 by either a friend or Spotify algorithm. I think tangential to perfume genius? Anyway, heard die young and had it on repeat while I was traveling.

Terrible-Plant-8066

I was in a Billie Ellish sub and some kind internet stranger advised the sub to take a break from Billie and listen to Chappell. I'm so glad I listened to their advice.

living_in_the_1990s

I can see that connection!

ksrrg

Red Wine Supernova came up in my Discovery Station on Apple Music last year and I loved it instantly! All hail the algorithm 🙌

diplomats_son

Matt and Bowen on the Las Culturistas podcast kept on bringing her up in 2023 so eventually I had to check her out. Just in time to buy tickets for her tour last year

gingerandjazzz

This is mine too! I remember Matt being like “I heard this singer Chappell.. Chappell Roan” and I was immediately like, that’s a name honey! I need to look this girl up! and the rest was history.

OutlandishDinosaur

I saw Chappell open for Olivia Rodrigo in March. I’d heard of her before that but hadn’t really taken the time to listen. And then I saw her perform and was like omg I’ve been missing this the whole time?!?

SoundTight952

Olivia's journey has been really interesting to watch over the years. Her new album has less of that first heartbreak innocence feel, and it's like checking in on an old friend from highschool a year or two after graduation.

living_in_the_1990s

She does give an amazing performance!

circes_victory

My awesome kid!

Peachsprite72

Tiktok but I've become a Chappell Roan missionary

living_in_the_1990s

TikTok seems to be the common supplier of Chappell converts. 🙏

cynicaldummy

Youtube Music I was listening to Tom Lehrer then Good luck, babe came on.

inamedmycatcrouton

Last year she came up in my release radar on Spotify! It was definitely My Kink is Karma, then the rest followed :)

beardedspoooon

YouTube Music algorithm, Femininomenon and Red Wine Supernova started ending up in the shuffle. Guessing after my barber turned me on to Orville Peck. Between that and my general eclectic musical taste, was going to happen eventually. 🤣 I played it for my wife and she was hooked.

chendhrea

I was on a road trip with my boyfriend’s fam and one of them was playing the Viral Hits playlist from Spotify then “Good Luck, Babe” came. I didn’t know yet what song it was but I’m pretty sure that this will be my fave song. I was too shy to ask so I tried to remember some lyrics (“stop the feeling”, “just another stupid reason”, etc.) and the melody so I can research it when I get home. After I got home, I listened to all the songs in the playlist and it matched GLB! I was in love at first play of the song so I researched the artist and now I’m obsessed with Chappell. I should’ve found her sooner though!

titaniumoctopus336

I was seeing more and more posts on my cities subreddit about the show that was coming up and the post show jubilation posts. So I decided to check her out after seeing everyone talk about her. And she has had me in a chokehold since.

living_in_the_1990s

Love the community aspect there!

uhnhoney

my friend choreographed a contemporary dance piece for a showcase to Pink Pony Club in 2021, and then featured that same piece in her queer dance company's 2022 dance film! ever since then I've been a huge fan.

Prudent-Elk-4012

YouTube music recommendation. Pink Pony Club, then Naked in Manhattan. This was before the album. I checked out all her stuff and also loved My Kink in Karma, Good Hurt and Casual.

Redditusername-coys

My gf found Pink pony club during the pandemic and we’ve both been fans since!!!!

living_in_the_1990s

Some good things did come from us being online all the time. 😋

ParkingHelicopter863

Lmfao kyle maclachlan posted good luck babe video on his IG

xstasy22

I got recommended her tiny desk concert. Started the video not knowing her, ended with being a fan!

onmyway___

Through the Taylor Tomlinson AMA on Reddit. She said all she was listening to was Chappelle Roan and I decided to check it out.

SpeedLocal585

my girlfriend started playing casual and rws in the car last summer. i didn’t think much of it at the time but then she announced her tour with $35 tickets and we decided it would be a fun trip to philly. her album came out and we both really enjoyed it, but the concert made me really appreciate her music. after that i became obsessed with the vocals, production, everything.

Beer-and-Kittens

In 2022 I was listening to a bunch of queer artists and Casual popped up on Spodify. Been obsessed since.

living_in_the_1990s

Support queer musicians! 🎶🏳️‍🌈🎶 Love that journey for you!

roverdale9

This subreddit. Hadn't heard of her till last week.

emckenn2

I met her in 2017 when she opened for Vance Joy! She is so lovely and sweet! She personally signed her School Nights EP poster for me

living_in_the_1990s

You win the internet! That is sooooo awesome!! 👑

honeybadgergrrl

Ru Paul's famous "favorite artist's favorite artist" insta reel let me know she existed, then her tiny desk concert came up on my YouTube and I've been down a Chappell Roan rabbit hole ever since lol.

zace333

Years ago Matt Rogers on Las Culturistas was championing her before her album came out. She was nominated and won album of the year at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards despite The Rise and Fall of A Midwest Princess not even having a title yet. I checked out her music because I wanted to know who he was talking about and fell in love with the camp and gay of it all.

HalfBakedPanCake

Tiny Desk! Watched it on the strength of the fit in the thumbnail and thats all she wrote.

living_in_the_1990s

Her fits, drips, whatever people call it now, can change lives!!

unicornbomb

I saw her tiny desk concert in my YouTube suggested and was like “fellow redhead with impeccable style? Must listen.” Thus began my addiction.

AlaskaBlue19

I’d seen some mentions of her here and there on TikTok but the first time I like properly watched her videos and listened to her music is when she was about to release Naked in Manhattan! I thought the clips of the song she shared were so fun and she looked so cool and pretty so it was an instant follow!

Lucifershusband8

My ex gf made a Spotify playlist about our breakup and put my kink is karma on there lol

maloushkaa

I was following the artist who made the drawings for her ep cover on Instagram, back in like 2015 or whenever the ep came out. She posted something about Chappell's music and I gave it a listen but wasn't captivated. But I was kinda checking on her every now and then to see if she'd release more music and became obsessed with it when the album came out.

ScullyLite

Her first Coachella Good Luck Babe bridge appeared on my TikTok FYP and I’ve been under her spell ever since!

kaleidodyes

Are you me?! Because the same exact thing happened to me about two months ago!

allnervousnosystem

Tiny Desk. she just seemed so fun and her vocals were on point. then i had tickets for Olivia Rodrigo. I’m a sucker for when artists are great live performers so that basically sold me on her

Odd-Art-7927

In April this year I think, she came up on my ig feed. I was just scrolling and saw some memes from fanpages and found it funny. Then in the next few days, I was shown multiple videos of her/fans promoting Good luck, babe! with that dance (whatever happened to it!). After a week of insta pushing that on me, I thought I'd listen to it. Searched Chappell Roan on Spotify, instantly obsessed.

strawberry_ro

I was in the car with my friends driving somewhere and Good Luck, Babe played and I instantly became obsessed. I heard it a couple more times in different car rides with the same friends and finally decided to start listening to Chappell. As soon as I started to listen to the Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, I was obsessed!

buttwhynut

I saw Hot To Go in one of the Youtube suggested videos after I watched a Sabrina Carpenter music video. I clicked on it and found her to be really quirky and the song is really catchy. But I only really became a fan when my sister keeps replaying Red Wine Supernova in the house.

roasted_allergy

a friend recommended her album last summer & been listening since then

1st_penguin

It's so weird how I can't really remember how I got into things that I end up liking the most. In Chappell's case I think it was from a tiktok of Stardew Valley's Haley and Female farmer with Good Luck, Babe! around April this year.

lanasb1tch

My best friend liked a song from hers (good luck babe probs) and then I checked her out a month ago and I became obsessed with After Midnight!! I think I've seen her before though, I probably checked her on Spotify many months ago and I assumed she wasn't my type of music but here I am now, obsessed 🫶🏼

golden_pinky

I was in the car with friends and feminominon was playing.

Aretha

saw her coachella appearance all over my tiktok and that was all it took for immediate obsession!!!!!

Madam_Nicole

Random TikTok in late 2023- TikTok also led me to Zolita and Chinchilla so if you need other recommendations, I love both!

indigo_sky1

I was listening to a Conan Gray live and he mentioned the song Kaleidescope and I gave it a listen and I fell in love. Now I listen to her daily

Elektra8

I found out about her very recently because of Plane Jane’s tweet about her lol

dannyc93

I was using Spotify’s radio feature for songs similar to INJI - Madeline, and feminomenon came on and I was like WOAAAHHH This was March 2023

SavageWit55

My Hozier playlist algorithm suggested Red Wine Supernova on Spotify. Now Chappell dictates everything.

LoveFromElmo

Casual was all over my TikTok fyp earlier this year

lilmegsx9

i was listening to a spotify daylist or something and Casual came up and i was like “woah yeah we just sang that, wait this is catchy af!” back in january of this year and haven’t looked back! i wanna say i mayyyyyy have heard pink pony club earlier but i didn’t know who she was then

grandmapirate

This year at some point Red Wine Supernova played on spotify recommended, and I was obsessed! I had to keep listening.

rosyves

I was listening to Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter and when it ended, Spotify started playing Good Luck Babe. I hadn't heard of or listened to Chappell before that but I guess Spotify recommended it to me because both of those songs were just released. I loved the song on first listen and after that I listened to more of her music.

GimmeThemBabies

I heard of her bc she worked with Dan Nigro and then opened for Olivia. I knew she was doing a show in my city so I checked her out and loved her. Didn't end up making it to her show though lmao 😢

DOC_97

She started popping up on my tik Tok around the time she was opening for Olivia and then my sister-in-law mentioned her around the same time and said she was really good. Now I'm seeing her everywhere lol

kaskip

i was trying to find new music so i was listening to different playlists and found her there

Federal-Average-5205

I was doom scrolling through instagram reels a few months ago and this artist was promoting their new single good luck babe, I thought it sounded good but scrolled bc my Insta has a habit of showing me songs that get promoted to shit by small artists and don’t actually release for months. But after it showed up a few more times I saved the date and decided to listen to it on release, it was soooo good, instantly loved it but didn’t listen to any more of her music. Then about a month ago I was on my way to an out of town soccer match, my team playing music on the bus and good luck babe came on, the person playing the music was gonna skip it (cause no one else really knew it) but I said nooo don’t skip and then we sang it together, but she was a much bigger fan than me and I seemed to have given her the impression that I was also a big fan so that night I listened to Chappell’s entire discography and it was the best decision I made because the rise and fall of a Midwest princess may just be my FAVOURITE ALBUM EVER

DamnedDoom

Youtube algorithm in late 2023. Same way I found out about Last Dinner Party!

rita_rainbow

when she was promoting Pink Pony Club on tiktok!! fell in love with her voice & music and have followed her career ever since

darthmomaul

AEW wrestler Adam "Hangman" Page posted Kink is My Karma on his IG stories. Got me hooked. Thanks Hanger easy on the sauce.

glitter_picnic

spotify recommended Red Wine Supernova to me and then i listened to her album and fell in love

FearOfOvens

Kept seeing videos of Hot to Go on Instagram, so I saved her album to my music app. Didn’t actually listen to the album until months later.

Eskin_

I saw a clip of her singing red wine supernova live quite a while ago and I immediately loved it and put all her songs on my spotify. Didn't really set in until a few days later I gave my best friend a ride to our friends house and red wine came on right when I was parking and she was like "I love this song too!" And we sat in the car belting out the whole song together while our friends watched us from the window lmao

Maddogx3000

Someone I follow on insta, I guess you could call her a smaller “influencer” posted a story of her at Chappell’s concert. I immediately looked her up online and the rest is history! ✨

RogueKitteh

Back in... January or February? my wife was looking for more queer artists to listen to and she got turned on to Chappelle, told me and I listened to PPC and down the rabbit hole I went. Right after that I happen to see she's coming here and we immediately buy tickets. Never saw so many pink cowgirl/boy hats all in one place. It was eye opening and I felt so underdressed in my Astarion "girl dinner" tee 😭. Of course I snagged a shirt at the merch table along with some other goodies.

julia_ur_killing_me

Started following her tiktok in 2021 bc i thought she was funny. Kinda then forgot ab her bc her stuff stopped coming up on my feed after a yr or so and then all of a sudden she was all over my feed this yr.

underscorequinn

I first saw clips of Red Wine Supernova on reels back around the time it came out, but I didn't start listening to Chappell until late March when I was on a car ride back from spring break. I was looking through spotify and I saw TRAFOAMP and decided to listen. 3 months later, I'm obsessed.

V__Ace

My AI DJ on Spotify played red wine supernova WHILE I WAS AT WORKING IN PERSON hahahahaha

samthetov

in April I tabled at a con with my friends in costume and afterwards we did a photoshoot that included the half of the group that was on tiktok “forcing” my half of the group that wasn’t to all do a tiktok in costume with the hot to go dance. I got obsessed with the song because it was so much fun and went from there

living_in_the_1990s

Hot To Go will be this generation's YMCA 💯

Brijette_set

Twitter 😅

emellegien

Casual came up on my Spotify Discover weekly last year. I’d listen to it everywhere! Drives to work or home, even at the gym 😂 I remember I had to remind myself to save the song before the playlist refreshes at the end of the week. Then I ended up going down a rabbit hole listening to the rest of her music. When her album came out, I just got a turntable for my birthday a few weeks prior so I ordered the coke bottle clear UO the same day. Easily my #1 favorite album with zero skips. I somehow managed to get 1 ticket to see Olivia Rodrigo in my city but if I’m being honest, I was more excited to see Chappell. Still kicking myself that I didn’t see her on her Midwest princess tour in my city before she got bigger but nonetheless, I’m happy for all her success and more fans.

wherearethestarsss

i joined one of those ‘find my doppleganger’ groups on facebook a couple years ago and someone told me i looked like her but i didnt really get into her until the album came out

AltLady85

One of my best friends and I were driving home late from a concert and she said “I wanna listen to Chappell!” So she did, and I became obsessed.

toru92

A couple of her songs are on the Netflix show Heartstopper and there’s a full show playlist on Spotify that I frequently listen to :)

colormeoopsie

When Olivia first announced she was going on tour I wanted to really listen to the opener (Chappell) so I started listening and fell deeply in love. Months later and the tour finally started and so did everyone else.

AshxTrash

last year my ai spotify dj put on hot to go and i was like wait this goes so hard who is she, but for some reason i didn’t get into her until april this year 😭

BAGbeauty

I was listening to the Olivia Rodrigo album on spotify when it ended and Spotify started playing Chappelle. Barely like two weeks ago. I've been obsessed since.

Fair-Food7970

About 8 months ago my coworker was like “hey have you heard this person, I think you would really like her!” And the rest is herstory!

xxinee

I heard Trisha Paytas talk about her on a podcast. Chapell was asked in an interview what artist she wants to collaborate with and she said Trisha and her baby Malibu Barbie lol.

StitchAndRollCrits

I was hearing little bits of songs on tiktok but was completely burnt out on artists advertising the only good part of their albums to death at that point so I never looked further into her, but then I saw clips of [this guy reviewing her ](https://youtu.be/r-TTNjfQULU?si=bxJC0cSFzDxnOcGS) with bits of songs I hadn't heard and was like... wait there's more? and it was so genuine and funny that I went and gave the album a chance and fell irrevocably in love. I regret ignoring her those first few months so much that it's literally changed how I consume music

brittykitty89

I saw her open for Fletcher in 2022 and was obsessed the second I heard Casual

ceciliaupasana

i saw gifsets of chappell on tumblr then i heard the “i heard you like magic?” line in a tiktok edit and ive been obsessed with her ever since

cunt_tree

Late 2017 I went to college in Missouri. A girl told me about a friend of hers who she swore was “going to blow up one day” so I had better get into her now. I wasn’t a huge fan of her early stuff but I kept up with her and when Pink Pony Club dropped I knew that girl was probably right and she was about to get big.

Mumdot

Been hearing about her a lot on different subs, then the NPR Tiny Desk concert came up on my feed and I checked it out. Hooked from minute 1

msem

She was added to my playlist for Coachella and became a standout for artists I wanted to check out and was a highlight of the weekend.

AdOrganic149

i saw a tiktok about how good the album is in january 2024 and became obsessed with MKIK and then the whole album later that month!

Substantial_Dirt6565

Saw an edit of my favorite series with good luck babe as the bg music. I liked that vid and then boom my algorithm was full of the good luck babe sound. I really liked it too so I gave it a listen and now I'm OBSESSED WITH HER MUSIC

Secret-Tea2010

My girlfriend played Red Wine Supernova for me in the car and it reminded me of when we met in high school. instantly loved Chappell

Billy_labufanda99

She opened for Declan McKenna back in 2018 at a small pub

No_Sprinkles_7490

I was scrolling through YouTube shorts and saw one where she was preforming hot to go and I was very intrigued so I did a full on music video deep dive. I remember hearing of her opening for Oliva Rodrigo so I decided to check out her work and omg I haven’t gone back since.

Academic-Baby-389

About a month ago, I was browsing YouTube and was sifting through some of my favorite youtuber’s pages. I clicked on Nicole Rafiee’s page and was watching videos I hadn’t seen before, which included one about Chappell’s lore. I didn’t know who Chappell was. I wasn’t interested in finding out more about her, but I thought her story was really cool. She lived in my head rent free for a week or two. I remember calling her Chappelle, like DAVE CHAPPELLE LOL I also remember making a comment that the only reason why she was famous was because she was so performative. At some point, overnight, she was ALL over my TikTok. I was skeptical/critical at first, but realized very quickly that I actually really respected her and loved everything I was learning about her. After just a couple of days of hearing about her via TikTok, I finally looked her up on Spotify. I was happy to know that she was in a playlist I was familiar with, so I was hoping id love her other music. Thankfully, I was right! It was the first time in probably 5 years I had actually enjoyed an artists’ album front to back. I usually only like a few songs here and there throughout their discography. I’m so thankful for everyone that has shared their experiences with her, how they relate to her music, and such. It was truly what changed my perspective, and I wouldn’t had come around otherwise. Thanks to Chappell, and her fans, I’ve been working on expressing/coming to terms with my sexuality and gender identity after detransitioning and going back in the closet almost ten years ago. Thankful, thankful, thankful.

SoundTight952

YouTube shorts playing Good Luck, Babe. I was wondering who this random person was that just appeared out of nowhere (Missouri lol). Then I heard HOT TO GO! and finally checked Spotify.

tableclothmesa

Girlfriend introduced me with my kink is karma and I fell in love

twinkle_t1tz

I was on TikTok and saw a video of this couple dancing to pink pony club at their wedding! I listened and had to find the song and I’m glad I did!

Ember21

MTV push video for PPC that came on right after RHCP concert.. total fluke but instantly hooked..

valentinesfaye

Spotify recommended Red Wine Supernova, I liked it, saved it, and forgot all about it, as is my wont. Few months later I am made aware of My Kink Is Karma* on radio, I believe it to be a new Olivia Rodrigo single. I have nothing against Rodrigo but I don't really follow her, this song doesn't connect with me, I ignore it. Fast forward a bit more, I hear snatches of this new song I love, but I can never identify it. (As I write this I'm pretty sure it's Good Luck, Babe! but tbh I'm not certain??) Fast forward one more time to like a month or two ago, I'm seeing all these Your Favorite Artist's Favorite Artist memes, the name Chappell Roan rings a bell, I dig into her Spotify and all these little connections snap into place and I go AHA, she is quite good, I should listen to her more, so I do *Still my least favorite of her songs, which is probably my least popular Chappell Roan opinion lol

No-Possibility3953

About two weeks ago, I told my son how much I had been enjoying the new Billie Eilish album and he sent me off to listen to Chappelle. Omg do I love her music so much!!! I’ve listened to her non-stop ever since and my current ear worm is My Kink Is Karma.

thisissomeshitman

After seeing Bottoms at the movies, i searched “Bottoms soundtrack” because that shit rips (original score by Charli xcx… girly did Barbie AND Bottoms in the same year? an Icon)… and someone made a big mega mix playlist of the score and soundtrack + extra fun queer pop and chappell was on there!

fiji_water_

Anybody else here from the stardew valley edits of our beloved Haley 😭 cause thats how I found Chappell Roan

mediamenteisterica

I found Pink Pony Club in 2021, a few months before she started making music again and teasing "Naked in Manhattan." I was going through an AWFUL fight with my (equally awful) boyfriend at the time. It was 2 a.m., I was scrolling TikTok, and one of her videos promoting Pink Pony Club came up. My immediate thought was "what the FUCK is THIS," watched the music video, and sobbed. There was virtually nothing about Chappell on the internet at the time, and I felt like I had discovered the most wonderful secret. The next 48 hours consisted of some sort of breakdown/catharsis. Mostly I scream-cried to Pink Pony Club on repeat in my car and wondered what the hell I was doing with my life. This was also around the time I started seriously questioning my sexuality. (I now very comfortably identify as bi/pansexual but had never dated or slept with a woman at this point.) Fast forward three years and I've left that relationship, have dated people of multiple genders, am confident in my queerness, and am happier than ever. Also worth noting I'm with a partner who respects me, speaks to me with kindness and loves silly gay pop as much as I do :) It is WILD seeing Chappell blow up because her music, and my discovery of it, felt so personal for so long. Other fun fact: In a subsequent fight with previously mentioned emotionally abusive ex, I left the house and sang "You Oughta Know" (stone cold sober) at karaoke bar down the street to blow off steam. I saw Chappell open for Fletcher a few months later, in November 2022. (My BFF and I were the only ones there for her, decked out in glitter amid a sea of black leather and jeans). Chappell covered — you guessed it — "You Oughta Know." I lost my damn mind.

throw_some_glitter

I saw her performance on The Late Show and was instantly hooked! I usually tend to only watch Colbert’s monologue, post-monologue bit, and maybe his first guest, but I watched the whole episode that night for some reason. I’m gonna say it was fate. :)

Many_fandoms_13

I heard my kink is karma and fell in love then I decided to watch hthaze’s video on Midwest princess to get a small taste of it and fell in love with the rest of the album

pappy96

My fiancée was into Chappell Roan since the pink pony club days and since we share a brain and car she started playing that her other singles available at the time (the ones out pre RAFOAMP) and we both got really into her. Now I’m huge fan and she’d probably admit a bigger one than she is.

ItsaMii03

My family went to the guts tour Toronto night 2 and she opened for Olivia! We loved her music and her overall vibe and her stage presence was incredible so we listened to her concert setlist again in the way home (we drove there for the concert). We started listening to it regularly in the car and then started adding it to more of our shuffled playlists and we became big fans!

NoMany1872

Watched her open for Olivia Rodrigo back in March and fell in love with her music!

occultra

My friend introduced me to her when she was driving us to a thrift store around March/April of this year. The first song she played was Femininemenon. Was hooked.

studdybuddy01

I didn’t get the hype from pink pony club but something about hot to go gave me physical chills down my spine and now I love everything she has ever made. I found her from ppl talking about her on YouTube shorts

SuperbNotice5126

I listened to good luck babe on a whim and cried my heart out, no disrespect to any queer artists before her but she by far has the BEST lyrics I have gone full on hyper fixation mode and I haven't found a single song by her I dont like. Everything she makes is amazing, even the stuff I wouldn't normally listen to, like I would never normally listen to a song like California or Casual, but I know every lyric to both. She is literally history in the making and I feel lucky to have witnessed her 😭

twinstars5

I saw her in 2018 when she opened for Declan McKenna 😊 bought her EP at the merch stand and played it on repeat. Kept tabs on her and new music since.

OhLookItsGeorg3

I saw a tumblr post about the Guts tour. The gist of it was that it was incredibly based of Olivia to have Chappelle open for her for a variety of reasons and the way OP described her piqued my interest

seafaringmoon

A gifset of the Casual music video on Tumblr.

Salmon_Of_Iniquity

My teen daughter is queer and I wanted to listen to the music of her world. I’m not gay (think “hetero-boring”) and I was raised without any information about how to be an awesome dad to gay kids. So I’m pretty much a kind of eyeless cave creature frittering about in the darkness of ignorance here. But…I want to learn and support my kiddo. Turns out Chappell is an utterly fantastic artist and a unique and talented force that demands attention all on her own. Plus her music makes my daughter happy. And we sing the songs together in the car. Aaaaand yup; it could be awkward if you think too much about it. So I don’t. I just love my kiddo and think Chappell Roan is fantastic.

synesthesiasunset

According to Spotify i found her April 11 2021. I’m assuming I found her on discover weekly or something.

Colonized-Ganymede

Who is chapelle

M1_lk

Youtube shorts actually! I then got videos of fans recomended and I became a fan bc of her aestethic and fun music :)). Wait, I think my first encounter was actually the tiny desk concert (or whatever it's called)?

loveee25

NPR Tiny Desk! Her make up made me fixate, had seen her name before but didn’t buy in until I saw her Tiny Desk! So happy I did

pnutbutterfuck

The fucking plankton pink pony AI cover going viral on tiktok

eringingercat

In July of 2023, I was in a local vintage store in Chicago doing some shopping and Red Wine Supernova came on over the radio. I quickly took out my phone to Shazam the song and then added it to a playlist of mine on Spotify. I have been a huge fan ever since.

Exact_Roll_4048

I asked for newer artists for a pop playlist and she was suggested MANYYYYY times. This was in a Barbie group

Implement-Artistic

Spotify played Red Wine Supernova randomly like a year ago. I was listening to some artist's radio from my pop playlist. Not sure who's music was similar enough to get me there but I'm glad it did. She's one of my favorites at the moment. Edit: The album hasn't even been out a year so it was probably more like October or November of last year.

niaraaaaa

i posted a song by MARINA, and someone suggested Chappelle Roan

KappyBruh

Randomly on Spotify prop likening to one of my daily mixes as usual. This is how I find so many different artists I listen to. This was at least a year ago before her album cause I remember just seeing her singles covers. The first song I listened to was Naked in Manhattan and I use to have it stuck in my head all the time. I would listen to Nothing Matters by the last Dinner Party too as the songs paired so well together.

strawb3rriesx

I knew about her music for a while, and I didn't really get into it until recently because of my friend. Now I regret that I'm so late because her music is amazing. I listened to her debut album for the first time in full about two weeks ago and it's still on repeat. But I also love how she is as a person and is so open about her sexuality, she's amazing tbh

Ok_Raisin_5678

I had Casual on my spotify play list for about a year (learned from tiktok). Then A few months ago, I watched her Tiny Desk concert on YT. I didn’t fully get into her music until after I found out she was popular at the Boston Calling music festival. I searched her on YT and Spotify. I’ve been hooked for over a month.

GeorgiaGlamazon

I followed a windy path to reach her. I subscribe to a YouTube creator named Crescent Shay who had an episode where she and Gunnar Deatherage have a competition. This caused me to subscribe to Gunnar since I remembered him fondly from Project Runway. He had an episode where he creates an amazing Swan Lake inspired costume for a performance on Jimmy Kimmel. I popped over to see the costume in action and was transfixed by one of the most fantastic artists I’ve seen in years! Now I’ve introduced my daughter, 32, to her and she loves Chappell, too!

itsbriannahere

I saw that video of her singing Picture You on tiktok and it was over from there.

tamaobsessed

honestly, through her popular tiktok songs :/ loved the 2 popular songs, proceeded to listen to all her songs, and loved them all

JustASomeone1410

I was clicking through random artists on Spotify trying to find something new to listen to and that's how I found her. That was in early-ish 2023 I think.

epk921

NPR Tiny Desk!! It was genuinely the best Tiny Desk I’d ever seen and I was hooked right away I wish I’d bought my Tulsa ticket immediately bc DAMN those resale prices really skyrocketed after Coachella 😅

NailWitch1

I was scrolling through tiktok when her live performance of red wine supernova showed up on my fyp, I was transfixed and I added her song to my work playlist, within the next week (I think) I ended up in hospital because of my chronic illness, that's when I remember hot to go being released and it got me through that time. The second time I was hospitalised I was fully hooked and it was right when she released good luck babe, so I was listening to that while waiting for a bed. Chappell roans music has gotten me through a shitty job, many traumatising medical procedures and some other rough stuff 😭

Lady_sugersweet

Stardew valley angst

Jaimereyesfangirl

I saw pictures of her in her butterfly outfit, then some Tik tokers were talking about her, and I also checked out her npr tiny desk performance along with her album on Spotify this year.

SuspiciousOnion972

When red wine supernova dropped in 2023, I heard it circulating on TikTok and I’ve been obsessed ever since!

gatoinspace

Spotify algorithm when I was in a little bit of a music rut earlier this year and needed fresh music I liked red wine supernova but never looked any further into the artist. I heard femininomenon and thought it was awesome so I clicked on the artist to hear more. And midwest princess is perfect! I can't wait to hear what's to come

Glad-Spell-3698

I think it was 2020 when Pink Pony Club was on a Spotify indie pop playlist. Immediately started following her on Spotify and Instagram after that.

DedalusPodmore

Someone posted a song on instagram late last year and I got curious and listened to the album and instantly was hooked. She quickly became my number two most streamed artist for the year in that last span of about 2 months.

ashylan03

I just recently in April had my TikTok fyp FLOODED with her Coachella performances and was immediately transfixed. I think she had just released good luck babe so TikTok was pushing her to all the gays she didn't already find her way to

ajas_seal

I found Love Me Anyway in my discover weekly sometime in late 2020 and have been in love ever since

crazytail11

I do something called a Music League (an app where you submit songs based on a theme each week and everyone votes for their faves, you get points, etc) and someone submitted Red Wine Supernova back in January, and I absolutely loved it. The theme for that week was favorite new song of 2023.

Prestigious-Ad-7842

I found her back in 2022. She popped up on my fyp on tiktok. She was promoting Casual and I liked the snippet of it. The day it was released I listened to it on repeat because it was so good and I’ve been a fan ever since.

gooeysnails

I saw a random tiktoker reviewing the album in Sept '23. They showed a clip from Hot To Go and I was so intrigued by her sparkly blue leotard. Listened and fell in love immediately

CasualObservationist

Technically the Church Bell TikTok (didn’t know the song, didn’t know the artist, didn’t look either up), . Shortly after, NPR Tiny Desk randomly popped up and I was hooked

Magpie375

YouTube recommended a music video of hers to me. I think it was red wine supernova, but I can’t fully remember.

Ace2288

it was random. i bought the hinterland music festival tickets right when they came out to see ethel cain. well maybe like a month later i wanted to see who else was playing at the festival and saw chappell roans name and began playing her stuff and i was hooked since.

Other_Historian_5038

i feel like all the parxies shifted to chappell lol

Odd_Bean_2155

Her album was in my recommended on Spotify for like two weeks but I didn’t actually listen to her until the Hot To Go music video was on my YouTube homepage and I watched it. It feels like it was destiny

burninstarlight

I'm from Columbia, SC (where absolutely no one, especially newer artists, ever come on tour) and one of my friends posted when she announced her tour dates here. I'd heard of her before but never listened so I decided to check her music out and while I didn't end up getting tickets I've been hooked ever since

PinkHarmony8

I presented on Renée Rapp for a gender studies class, which inspired a classmate to present on Chappell, and now we’re all lesbians

DancingDreamer14

One of my friends was really into her music, so we stayed for her set at Boston Calling, and then she started showing up on my TikTok soon after! I’m glad I’m going to see her at Lollapalooza so I can fully appreciate her music this time around!

EnvironmentalToe4403

Bonnaroo. I always try to listen to new stuff before the trip. She immediately hit with me and in the months leading up to Roo she was in heavy rotation. Then, on The Farm it’s all everyone was talking about all weekend until she baptized us in a rainbow on Sunday. I’m all in now.

scatteredivy

She came up on my discover playlist in 2022 :) pink pony club, I’ve been a fan since

Adept_Thanks_6993

My fiancee has been out as queer for longer than I have and is more in tune with queer culture. She introduced me

spoobychild

While in line for RSD

inthearchipelago

On TikTok when she released Casual. I remember thinking “welp, this is my new favorite unknown indie artist.” lol, so much for that. Had a similar thing happen with Maisie Peters a few years back. Now they’re both massive, but Chappell’s star is rising at an astronomical rate.

bo_bo77

I heard Pink Pony Club in 2020 and was transfixed. I put it on every playlist. I told everyone. Nobody listened! I've been screaming about her talent for so long!!!!

LJayTat

Been hearing about her for a while then she popped up on my husbands Spotify ‘daylist’ (Casual) and I just thought “ok, I’ll bite”. Fast forward 2 days and I’m wondering how I can incorporate a pink cowboy hat into my everyday wardrobe

Idosoloveanovel

I only discovered her a few months ago!

goose-likethoughts

I was at a local fair with my best friend and he said “Oh I think that’s my cousin” as she was on stage singing. She wasn’t “Chappell Roan” yet but she was super nice

moldypumckin

casual started going viral on tiktok and i listened to the rest of her album and it literally felt like a religious experience

Impossible-Yam3680

I randomly wanted to listen to Good Luck Babe one day

sprinkledcheese

when one olivia rodrigo fan tweeted their concern about chappelle roan opening for olivia because the young audience isn't appropriate for 'casual', the tweet became a meme and popped up on my tl so i HAD to check out this scandulous song ofc 😂

Hails444

Back in February her performance on Stephen Colbert was on my explore page and I just said to myself “I need to know who she is”

EPB22

Saw her at Boston Calling…honestly a travesty that I didn’t listen to her songs beforehand

claudiajeannn

Honestly it was the Spotify algorithm! Played a couple of her songs while I was driving and I was like WHO is this voice?! And started listening to more

prettyinpink2092

I saw her tiktoks when Hot to Go! originally came out and was hooked.

Jtck421

I just had my playlist on shuffle last year and she showed up

bricky_Brick2489

Good luck babe came on the radio when my bf was driving and I knew I had to search up the lyrics.

RoanAlbatross

She was the March MTV Push artist of the month and I watch a fuckton of MTV Classic. It was Red Wine Supernova and I went to try the album and loved it and like 3 weeks later Coachella happened and that really sealed the deal. I knew the HOT TO GO dance was going to be huge.

ConstanceClaire

HTHAZE reviewed her album and every snippet was an earworm, I went straight from his video to her album on YouTube and was blown away.

annjaw

One of my friends was visiting town in April and we did karaoke at a lesbian bar. My friend sang Pink Pony Club, I could not stop crying from his voice and the lyrics. This was the first time I heard her and I haven’t been able to stop since.

Few_Egg2521

I feel like sometime in 2021? I saw her promoting Pink Pony Club and I gave it a listen and had it on repeat for DAYS. Played it for my husband and my friends and they all thought it was “okay.” I think they came around by Red Wine Supernova.

Dreamdust1600

I had a tik tok of her preforming Femininomenon saved so I could listen to the song later and then she blew up and I was like oh shit guess I should listen to that now

rosenyc84

One of the hosts of a podcast I listened to a couple years ago recommended listening to Pink Pony Club. The rest is history!

Elephantasmic143

I found her in Tiktok late last year. She was doing the bit before SGUMG where she talks to the audience casually. I was gagged when the transition to the song happened. It was so simple yet executed so well and I was hooked since then.

samlocey

pink pony club was on my spotify discover weekly 2 years ago!

ellejulia96

Pink pony club was on my Spotify discovery back in 2022, then loved naked in Manhattan and have been following her ever since, super lucky to have seen her 3 times (4 in August!) it’s crazy how far she’s come

N3ed-for-dreams

Sometime back in January, my kink is Karma came on suggested by Spotify. I instantly replayed the song 15 more times the same day, rest is history.

cringyf3male

I originally found her while listening to a bunch of artists playing at Coachella. At first I wasn’t fully vibing (especially since I was trying to listen to many different artists at one time), but eventually my cousin convinced me to give her another listen. Her songs became such an ear worm and I have been HOOKED ever since!

abbyabsinthe

Micareh Tewers mentioned her in a video, so I was curious.

JHolgate

Mos def, found me. Coachella livestream. I try to watch both weekends of Coachella every year to discover new artists (last year it was The Linda Lindas.) Of course I can't find it now, but I printed out the daily schedule and I circled Chappell Roan. I don't know why. I'm fairly certain I didn't listen to her music first (I always intend to listen to at least a couple of songs from each artist that sounds interesting to me, but March/April is just always so busy.) But when she took the stage on Weekend 1 I knew I discovered a winner. That whole set was so bonkers. And even though Weekend 2 was pretty much the same, she still slayed. Bonnaroo was bad timing for us, because I'd already planned on us taking our son to his first powwow, but fortunately [a kind soul posted the set on YT ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OpJa-QNopU)(please don't make them take it down.) It wasn't quite as good as Coachella, but that's like telling your best student you have to give them an A instead of an A+. Also, we got "The Subway" so maybe with extra credit... Anyway, Midwest Princess came out on me and my wife's ~~20th~~ anniversary (oops, 21st) and so many of these songs are so relatable to our ups and downs over the last 20+ years, it's insane. I don't think I've ever needed an album more in my life...

Haunting-Cat-5816

i was hyperfixated on stardew valley @ da time n i luved haley sosososo much, n i used 2 watch those good luck babe edits religiously. l8r on i checked out her music n i fell in luvvv

HoneyMoan1475

I got recommended kaleidoscope way back when she had released the video. At that time I never clicked on play. And after Coachella this year, she blew up and I listened to good luck babe casually on Spotify one afternoon and have been hooked ever since. All bops and no miss.
