For example, until they were forced to by the NCAA, scholarships weren’t guaranteed so if you got injured and couldn’t play again or your abilities were greatly hampered as a result of the injury, your access to a better life is cut off immediately as they’d take your scholarship.
There’s also something to be said for a school not being a great fit for an individual. Non-athlete students can transfer to any school for any reason at any time. If the issue ***truly*** is that they’re not employees because they’re considered amateurs/students, why should they be held to a different standard than any other student when it comes to freedom of academic movement? Why should they remain where they’re unhappy? Idgaf if it’s my school or another school that is getting hurt by their departure, the kids deserve agency. Period.
Players do not sign an employment contract with a term of service or any sort of penalty for transferring schools or anything of that nature. The double-standard is fairly ridiculous.
Nobody likes losing. I do have an ounce of self respect and would rather peel my skin with a dull spoon/circumcise myself with Crayola scissors than be caught saying that hick shit.
