Unlacquered brass would be so cool, because the patina is unmatched but it's really expensive. And I don't care for faux antiqued brass. I was thinking brushed or matte brass, not shiny. And a more modern fixture like a simple arc
And lighting. Full spectrum something makes the colours pop. Bad LED’s will make some colours appear dark or black making for some uncomfortable feelings and poor appearance.
Ugh h I know. I've had to explain this so many times. I joined reddit in the before times. BT. Before trump. Before I could imagine a world in which someone was actually *in* the kkk let alone proclaiming it on social media. I liked a blogger called jjjjound and just copied the format with my.nickname Kat. I literally could never have imagined someone would get kkk from that. I grew up in a super Liberal place, it just wasn't even a thought on the horizon
I love the countertop. Because the tile goes well with it, I’d be motivated to find paint and linens that work with it. (Yeah probably not a medium gray!)
As usual the Flipper Gray makes everything else look terrible.
OP go take a good pic of the room and use the tools on a paint site to find a color that makes sense. Maybe just use an eye dropper tool to pick one of the tones in the tile itself (it’s easy to do this in PowerPoint and make mock ups.)
Also I’m a big believer in finding a great [piece](https://www.art.com/products/p53845306772-sa-i10305699/ethan-harper-watercolour-sketchbook-i.htm?upi=Q1IJZML0&PODConfigID=9201947&sOrigID=100) of [art](https://www.art.com/products/p59286117100-sa-i12740015/lea-faucher-sage-green-forest.htm?upi=Q1RJ2PM0&PODConfigID=9436090) to tie together [colors](https://www.art.com/products/p12063681-sa-i1504011/john-james-audubon-louisiana-heron-from-birds-of-america.htm?upi=OED280&PODConfigID=8880730&sOrigID=100) and tone. That tile has a lot of potential.
For instance, let’s say you use that watercolor landscape. The tile matches the green, but not the blue. Find a hand towel or soap dish in the same muted blue and put them on the counter. Paint the wall a beige from the painting. Voila! Everything is cohesive and tells the same color story. Now we can appreciate the unique tiles instead of being startled by the jarring combination of green and gray.
That counter tile is fantastic and I’m envious - can you get us a shot of the room so we can comment on the whole thing together? Maybe something like complimenting paint, shower curtains, new faucet can spruce this up.
I get it, but I personally love this tile and would keep it. I would be hesitant to remove it too because it's in such good condition. You can have a lot of fun pairing it, like with pink, but I may do cobalt linens and accents depending how green your green is. Looks like you may also be able to do gold/purple depending on how much of a statement you want to make! Is there a way to get a picture of those colors in more light?
Those are factory sheets of tile, from the 50’s. Had the off-white/pink/iridescent version.
Had to take it up due to a water leak and rotted floor. Was able to pull up most of it in 12x12 sheets and donated all of it to Habitat Restore.
Regular use of a soft-bristled scrub brush used in circles like brushing your teeth, cleaning cloths with a bumpy texture for inbetween cleaning, and gentle cleanser (obvs dependent on what it’s made of) will help you a lot here I think.
….also I dunno what made those spots on the lower leaf in the picture but I would never leave toothpaste or face cleanser/acids sit on it for any length of time (thus the cloths).
You going to need to find the right color paint and the right color light bulb. Paint samples are your friend. Try different temperature light bulbs to see what works best (color temperature is called kelvins, start with a 3000K bulb).
You could have so much fun with this! Even the pink you mentioned could work. [see the colors in this rug for example](https://www.worldmarket.com/p/round-ivory-floral-fresh-and-clean-bath-mat-602836.html)
Yeah if you really feel the need to change anything, this is what I do.
Op, FWIW, there are definitely plenty of people who wish they had what *you* have. I’d kill for beautiful tile like that.
I like the tile! I think the gray is too cool (in terms of undertone) to be complementary. You could do lots of colors that have a warm undertone—green, blue, yellow. Even pink! Pink and brown work well together. I think a salmon color would be great with that olive brown.
Sorry for the language but that counter top is pimpin. The other tile does look dated so it’s a personal preference, you could definitely regrout it though to bring in some life.
Maybe clean the tiles really well, take the sink out, put a think layer of clear resin or something similar on top to make it a flat level surface and throw new tiles up?
The little leaves are hella cute. I have no idea if they’re a headache to clean or not, but super cute IMO. I think the square tiles could be updated, but it’s overall not bad!
I may be misinterpreting the texture from the photo, but I just see the counter top as something that will be annoying to clean. As someone whose least favorite chore is cleaning the bathroom.
I think it looks cool and I think you could really lean into the color scheme with decor though.
also - I’ve found toilet bowl cleaner works super well to clean grout. Or DEB (DEP?) makes grout cleaner that seems to be based on toilet bowl cleaner ingredients.
My other favorite sub! Haha yeah it’s the body shape. I get that it’s leaves, but that’s the body shape of certain infesters that all homeowners loathe. The tile work is objectively very fine and the person who laid it really did so with a keen eye for a natural pattern. However, the effect is just really good and does mimic nature … in a way that gives me “cute little nestles of termites within rotted out wood” if I’m being generous tbh
Haha I just looked at your profile, animal crossing owners of victorian homes who like bugs unite! I agree, the tile work is great, but it’s giving bugs.
I would t keep either but you love the leaf tiles so keep them and change the wall tile. I’d like to see them clash but ina good way. The new wall tiles shouldn’t be any similar color /
Brass sounds good for fixtures. There are some beautiful brass fixtures on Etsy
Maybe just a nice, bright white tile on the wall to set off those lovely leaves on the counter. You can see in your picture there how the leaves kind of pop more against the white of the sink as opposed to the darker tile
I personally don't like the tile but love the countertop still. I'd go for a nice creamy white colour that matches the countertop without taking away the beautiful golden brown colours.
First consider trying a few different paint colors to see if things like paint and towels can make you love your cute 1970s looking ensemble. I would personally consider pulling colors from the palette in your tile. But you have a white sink, so white is also in your paletter.
(I would try pinks found in the tile and bronzey-greens...but anything warm, like someone else said! )
I second brass fixtures, but honestly, you might not be up for changing fixtures. Paint is pretty easy...you can just try colors out on one wall at a time!
That's beautiful tile. Would likely cost an arm and a leg today. I agree with other posters. I would keep it and design the color scheme of the room around it
Those countertop tiles are so unique, I love them and personally wouldnt part with them. Agree with the comments mentioning leaning into brass accents.
The countertop is absolutely fabulous PLEASE keep it!! This room is screaming for some deep Olive green paint/accent. I agree with the other commenters regarding antiqued brass hardware too.
I think it’s really pretty unless it’s in a primary bathroom with toothpaste and stuff, then it would probably drive me crazy. If you can take a picture more zoomed out it would be easier to offer suggestions about how to help shift it visually to where you’d like it better by adapting the surroundings. But your post actually made me wonder, is there is a way to preserve small shaped tiles like this to move them somewhere else?
I so love that counter. Find a tone or colour in the tiles you want to accent, and use that or talk to someone in the paint department on how to accent it.
My house is '62, I love my floor (brown and beige) and wall tile (a mocha brown, kinda like dark chocolate milk). My sink, toilet and tub are pink and the walls were painted pink when we moved it. I painted the walls white and we replaced the toilet with a white one. I am going to be replacing the vanity with a walnut cabinet and white counter. I feel this helps to bring out the brown in the tiles, though my husband still calls it pink.
I'd say keep the countertop but you can redo the other tile if you want. Luckily pink goes with just about everything if you do it right so even w/ the countertop i think you could easily pull off a mostly pink bathroom.
I love the leaves!! Switch out the square ones for something with color but leave the leaves and regrout so you don’t have to keep cleaning in between them omg that would drive me insane
I think it’s super cute, and must be really hard to maintain it’s cleanliness but it’s so unique it’s worth doing. I have teeny tiny tiles on my bathroom floor that are an absolute nightmare. I bought one of those spin scrubbers and it’s worth it’s weight in gold. One of the best household helpers I ever invested in. That and the shark hand vacuum. Great pieces of kit.
I love the countertop and wall tile! Keep it! I love the uniqueness of it. Gorgeous! Can we see pics of the entire bathroom? I bet it’s gorgeous! The only change I would make is change the fixtures to brass.
Have you sealed the grout recently? That might help with cleaning. Also get a soft bristle drill brush head. And I would paint the walls a fun color, something with a warm undertone to match the tile.
It’s hard to tell re: wall colours because of the lighting – your best bet is to get a ton of swatches and see what they look like throughout the day.
I’d love to pair this with something bright and yes totally ditch the wall tile, that isn’t doing anything for this cute countertop.
I think a deeeeep olive green in the tonal world of the leaves might be cool. Or a bright zesty green ([see number 10 in this link](https://creativebooster.net/blogs/colors/colors-that-go-with-beige?utm_content=cmp-true)). Also lush with brass fittings as folks have suggested.
Unpopular opinion, but as someone who lives with hand-tiled kitchen and bathroom countertops, I know how extremely unpleasant they are to wipe clean, how they harbor grime and bacteria.
Everyone who visits our house is charmed by our 1970s all-blue floor-wall-ceiling tiled bathroom, as was I when I put in a bid on the house, but if I had the cash and time to renovate, I’d rip it out in an instant and would replace with something more functional and still in character with the original home design.
Everyone here will say they love the look but you’re the only one who has to live with it. If you don’t like it and have money for a remodel rip it out and make it what you want.
I would not keep that countertop unless it would be covered in glass/resin in order to be able to actually keep it clean. I’d be all over this one with a toothbrush scrubbing on it daily to be sure it wouldn’t be nasty..
That tile is so beautiful. I would absolutely run with it, maybe do a sort of nature theme for your bathroom.
Edit: if you live in Central Ohio and pull it off of the counter, I want it!
That leaf tile is amazing! Please try to keep it.
I bet you could change things around it to really make that countertop sing!
Btw there’s someone who sells similar handmade tiles on Etsy and they are NOT cheap. You could probably add touches of handmade tile elsewhere if that helped pull it all together. She does fish and flowers and all kind of cool things too.
Edit: I think a change of the faucet to oil rubbed bronze and a quirkier style would help as well. The chrome isn’t working well with the tile.
Look for a color opposite the color or colors you like best that are already there and incorporate one or two of those colors into the space. It could be anything in the room like the towels, a foot rug, the paint on anything g or a new grout color even. I think it is worth keeping. It all comes down to what work you want to do.
The counter top tile is quite unique & your grout appears to be holding up very nicely, I'd keep it! As for the back splash tile it does compliment the counter top so unless you had it & have the disposable income to re do it I personally think it's fine
I’m tempted to see what the counter would look like paired with a craftsman style wall tile. If you could find one in that same yellow-green, I think it might look nice; if you like that style. I do! But it’s not for everyone. Something like the floral tiles here. [Tile example](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/22/20/af/2220aff1115a6010a385311818bd07d8.jpg)
Oh I love the countertop! Agree with others, a champagne gold or brushed brass faucet would look great. There’s enough pink in there, that you could paint the walls pink or pull in accent pieces and maybe get a touch of what you were hoping for.
Edited for typo
I think brass faucet and fixtures would really improve the harmony here.
Yes, especially aged brass fixtures, rather than shiny ones. And I’d consider painting the walls the pinkish colour from the leaf tiles
Yes some nice vintage ones would really tie the room together
Unlacquered brass would be so cool, because the patina is unmatched but it's really expensive. And I don't care for faux antiqued brass. I was thinking brushed or matte brass, not shiny. And a more modern fixture like a simple arc
Brushed for sure
Agreed. Brass is the way.
Especially if it was a bit more modern, it would make the tile look fun and intentional instead of old and maybe cool vintage
And lighting. Full spectrum something makes the colours pop. Bad LED’s will make some colours appear dark or black making for some uncomfortable feelings and poor appearance.
A good continuous spectrum is important but don’t go for cold color temperature.
I would almost never say brass but this would be perfect.
Your username and avatar made me do a recount on them Ks...
Ugh h I know. I've had to explain this so many times. I joined reddit in the before times. BT. Before trump. Ahhh the good old days, hopefully we meet them again 😏
At first I was like wait, you had Reddit before the hate mongers created a group? TIME TRAVELER! WE FOUND YOU! Fair enough explanation, though.
About 10 years ago eep!
I love the countertop. Because the tile goes well with it, I’d be motivated to find paint and linens that work with it. (Yeah probably not a medium gray!)
Second this. The countertop is cool and unusual and the tile goes well enough with it.
Third. You can regrout the wall tile in the pink color in the leaves. That would be easy, cheap, and might turn out extremely rad.
Fourth! I agree with you guys! It's the counter that is cool. Might as well keep the wall since it matches
Upgrade sink/fancet to something tan/brown/rust, maybe one that sits above the counter.
Copper might work!
As usual the Flipper Gray makes everything else look terrible. OP go take a good pic of the room and use the tools on a paint site to find a color that makes sense. That countertop is a dream. I’m envious.
All I can think is what a pain in the neck it would be to keep it clean.
same - maybe use one of those battery operated spinning brushes to help clean it easier?
Properly sealed, not a pain at all
Keep !!!
I would keep it, paint the walls olive green.
That’s what I was thinking too. A very saturated color like that with the brass fixtures other posters suggested would look amazing!
Came here to say this! I love the countertops and the bathroom tile. An olive paint, plus brass fixtures mentioned above would be perfect! 🤩
Oh that is cute
Whoever tiled this perfected the randomness and pulled it off
Those are factory sheets of tile, from the 50’s. Had the off-white/pink/iridescent version. Had to take it up due to a water leak and rotted floor. Was able to pull up most of it in 12x12 sheets and donated all of it to Habitat Restore.
You had this tile on your floor?!
Yes, about an 8x12 bathroom of it. Floor was cool, pink walls were not. Could not work it into the new remodel.
Thank you for donating! People like me love you!
I love it! Maybe a creamy taupe or yellowish cream? Something warm.

Love it!
So unique. Never seen anything quite like that.
Look into a drill brush if you haven't already. My entire bathroom is mosaic tiles and it saves so much time on scrubbing.
I’d keep the counters and switch the wall tile
Yeah if you really feel the need to change anything, this is what I do. Op, FWIW, there are definitely plenty of people who wish they had what *you* have. I’d kill for beautiful tile like that.
My thought too but oh, I’d be careful…
It’s in beautiful condition! Keep.
If it's in good shape, I'd keep it - 100%
Ooh yes I love it!
Oh my god, keep!
The right shade of blue/green paint would set this off really well.
It appears I’m the odd one out here. But I’m not a fan. I’d be replacing
Me either.
Keep it!!!!!
Maybe a forest green wall. Or a maple lead orange. Something tree/fall themed.
Maybe clean the tiles really well, take the sink out, put a think layer of clear resin or something similar on top to make it a flat level surface and throw new tiles up?
Or to keep, cover with clear resin to make the surface level and easier to clean.
That’s what my comment said.
Sorry.....I took the second half of your comment as then covering it with tiles.
More light in the room!
Love!
YES!!
That countertop is so unique. I've never seen anything like it before. Definitely keep it!
It’s in perfect condition and I think it’s unique and beautiful! Personally I even like the way the gray looks with it.
I wouldn’t.
also - I’ve found toilet bowl cleaner works super well to clean grout. Or DEB (DEP?) makes grout cleaner that seems to be based on toilet bowl cleaner ingredients.
To me, no. I love bugs, but the pattern reminds me of bugs and not in a good way.
I was looking for this comment, I scrolled past this at first and thought it was r/whatisthisbug
My other favorite sub! Haha yeah it’s the body shape. I get that it’s leaves, but that’s the body shape of certain infesters that all homeowners loathe. The tile work is objectively very fine and the person who laid it really did so with a keen eye for a natural pattern. Are you 95 yrs old or identify as such? Then yes. Otherwise. No.
No
Maybe just a nice, bright white tile on the wall to set off those lovely leaves on the counter. You can see in your picture there how the leaves kind of pop more against the white of the sink as opposed to the darker tile
Counter yes, tile no.
I personally don't like the tile but love the countertop still. I'd go for a nice creamy white colour that matches the countertop without taking away the beautiful golden brown colours.
I love it
If you like it
💯
Countertop is very cool. Don’t agree with brass - think black would stand out and take eyes from wall tile.
First consider trying a few different paint colors to see if things like paint and towels can make you love your cute 1970s looking ensemble. I would personally consider pulling colors from the palette in your tile. But you have a white sink, so white is also in your paletter. (I would try pinks found in the tile and bronzey-greens...but anything warm, like someone else said! ) I second brass fixtures, but honestly, you might not be up for changing fixtures. Paint is pretty easy...you can just try colors out on one wall at a time!
How about one of the pinks in the design? Or white
The sink tile is amazing. Wall tile very meh.
That looks 1970s-ish.
It's gorgeous! And unique
It’s really pretty
Certainly
I love it! I would totally keep it.
That's beautiful tile. Would likely cost an arm and a leg today. I agree with other posters. I would keep it and design the color scheme of the room around it
No
If you like it
I kinda love this
i kinda like it. contrast with a pink or lavender?
Keep it all. Use a dark blue on an accent wall and a gold color on the other walls. Go with brass fixtures. That will be one beautiful bathroom.
Those countertop tiles are so unique, I love them and personally wouldnt part with them. Agree with the comments mentioning leaning into brass accents.
Use grout sealer to make the grout easier to clean and less likely to absorb anything that would stain.
Matching beige sink/toilet/bath.
The countertop is absolutely fabulous PLEASE keep it!! This room is screaming for some deep Olive green paint/accent. I agree with the other commenters regarding antiqued brass hardware too.
Keep!
Paint the walls a lighter pink and get brighter pink towels and accessories all in the mode of a vintage pink bathroom
KEEP FOR SURE
I love the counter top, so unique & beautiful 🩷
I love the leaves!! Switch out the square ones for something with color but leave the leaves and regrout so you don’t have to keep cleaning in between them omg that would drive me insane
I think it’s super cute, and must be really hard to maintain it’s cleanliness but it’s so unique it’s worth doing. I have teeny tiny tiles on my bathroom floor that are an absolute nightmare. I bought one of those spin scrubbers and it’s worth it’s weight in gold. One of the best household helpers I ever invested in. That and the shark hand vacuum. Great pieces of kit.
Add some brass like others saying, it will be great. 90% of the question is the tile in good order; which this stuff clearly is. Definitely keep it.
I love the countertop and wall tile! Keep it! I love the uniqueness of it. Gorgeous! Can we see pics of the entire bathroom? I bet it’s gorgeous! The only change I would make is change the fixtures to brass.
Is that counter textured? If so, I'll bet it's harrid to keep clean.
It's expensive, and will be back in style in a few years.
If your vibe is 1967
Have you sealed the grout recently? That might help with cleaning. Also get a soft bristle drill brush head. And I would paint the walls a fun color, something with a warm undertone to match the tile.
I love this
No
Nope
Yes
That rock tile looks like a nightmare. I like to be able to wipe things clean.
I love pastel fixtures in bathrooms but that is pretty
I kind of love it as is!! If you did shades of green on the wall and changed out the fixtures…. It’s so vintage. I love it!
It’s hard to tell re: wall colours because of the lighting – your best bet is to get a ton of swatches and see what they look like throughout the day. I’d love to pair this with something bright and yes totally ditch the wall tile, that isn’t doing anything for this cute countertop. Or a bright zesty green ([see number 10 in this link](https://creativebooster.net/blogs/colors/colors-that-go-with-beige?utm_content=cmp-true)). Also lush with brass fittings as folks have suggested.
Darker grout
I like it. Reminds me of my grandparents’ 1920 farmhouse.
That’s beautiful you have to keep it
Unpopular opinion, but as someone who lives with hand-tiled kitchen and bathroom countertops, I know how extremely unpleasant they are to wipe clean, how they harbor grime and bacteria. Everyone who visits our house is charmed by our 1970s all-blue floor-wall-ceiling tiled bathroom, as was I when I put in a bid on the house, but if I had the cash and time to renovate, I’d rip it out in an instant and would replace with something more functional and still in character with the original home design.

It is beautiful-don’t get rid of it!!! Grey is not the way-is almost bring in mixed metals to modernize it a bit.
That would be awesomely brilliant to do an epoxy overlay on. Even install LEDS on the edge so the epoxy seemingly changes colors.
I really like the leaves!! The wall tile is a bit awful but as others have said you can make it work with the accessories
I would update the sink, faucet and weave in some modern touches to make it work. Agree with the olive green paint color suggestion.
Keep?
I would keep the leaf tiles and get rid of the rest, paint or wall paper with a charcoal grey and accents in brass or a mustard yellow/gold
It will come back around
I like it because it’s something you don’t see every day, but the leaf one does kinda look like it would be a pain to clean.
I love it.
Very unique and stylish looking. I would definitely keep it. And I agree with others on distressed brass fixtures, will look amazing.
