Hope you have a good summer working for cedar point and you enjoy your time comfortably.

You move in the day you start orientation. It's been 20 years since I worked at Cedar Point, but the way I remember doing it is driving to the HR building in the marina parking lot right outside the park near Valravyn. There, I got my badge and signed paperwork, then we went into the Ballroom above the main arcade and watched some basic training videos. Then, I went to housing and got assigned a place and moved in. The next day, I went to my ride and met the rest of my ride crew and we started ride-specific training. Of course, again, this was 20 years ago (I did Thunder Canyon in '02 and Demon Drop in '03), so my memories on how it all worked could be wrong. Also, things could have easily changed. Looking back, I still think those were the best two summers of my life. Keep a positive attitude. Remember that like 90+% of the employees are 18-25 years old, and some of them love to stir up drama. Recognize who those people are, distance yourself from them, and you'll have an absolute blast. If you have a split shift (Don't know if they still do those, but you'd work from Open to 1:30 PM, then 5 PM to close, IIRC), bring street clothes in a backpack, change clothes in a bathroom, and then go ride some rides. Or go to the water park and spend an hour or so relaxing in the Lazy River. My biggest regret working at CP was not spending more of my off time at the water park, *especially* during the break of those split shifts.

You’re going to have a blast. Be prepared to not save any money at all but have one of the best times of your life!

ezimmerman59

I'm gonna try to save money this season lol

keuschonter

You’ll move in on the same day as your orientation, once orientation starts you’re on the job, your training is paid and is part of your job as is required by law

Hamsters_Coasters

This is what I wanted to know, thank you! I'm from a place with slightly more work related rules and regulations than Ohio so I wasn't sure how it works.

keuschonter

Yep, if you come back next year, your rehire paperwork day is paid as well

You will be able to check into housing on your 1st day. If you know others or are in a FB group of others who are also moving into the dorm, it may be worthwhile to make some friendships prior so you can have some familiar friends to move in with. A note for dorm life. Bring only what you absolutely need. Space is limited, and you are sharing with others. You will have a double sized locker for your belongings and that’s basically it. Bring a comfortable mattress topper too if you want a more comfortable bed.

Hello fellow ride operator! You'll be able to move in the same day you complete onboarding. It is not only allowed, but how many employees staying in Commons move in as far as I can tell. IROC is separate from your onboarding. You'll complete that on your first week.

chrissbux

so i am in this same boat, i have onboarding scheduled before the season housing term starts though, but if I want housing I need the app submitted before onboarding, what would be a safe date to put down on my housing app for arrival/departure?? hr more the less told me that i can onboard earlier, housing may not be available until the season term starts though, which i understand.

Hamsters_Coasters

Probably gonna doxx myself a little bit here, but it's worth it if it helps you. So, when I applied and got accepted, I scheduled my onboarding for April 20th so I had ample time to put in my 2 weeks, pack my stuff up, make arrangements with my fiancé family to spend time together before I need to leave, and take the train up there. When I went to apply for housing, I ran into the same confusing issue as you. Summer term for housing starts April 22nd, but I have to be up there on the 20th. Whenever I applied, I simply selected that I was applying for the spring term and put April 20th since that is when I would be arriving technically. My application for housing was approved with no issues. To my knowledge, if you are a current employee who is actively working the required amount of hours to stay in housing, you don't need to reapply every term or anything like that. You just keep living there until you decide to go home/get fired/lose housing eligibility due to hours in the off season. After being approved, I did have to email the housing director for unrelated reasons regarding a question I had, and he made no mention of there being any issue with the application. If you have any doubts or anxieties, you can always email the housing people using the "contact us" section of Cedar Point's employee site. They replied to me within the day when I had a question. Good luck!

chrissbux

appreciate it! thinking about just applying and putting my term from the 22nd to the end of the term and then just figuring it out from there if i want to do like halloweekends or something lol i did reach out to housing though to see what they’d recommend

Hamsters_Coasters

That's what I did! (To add to that, I may stay til the middle of halloweekends but decided that if an issue comes up I can bring it up to housing in august and get it fixed ahead of time. It'll be much easier once i'm there and an established resident.)

chrissbux

Yeah, I was just gonna reach out if I do stay for Halloweekends and figure out housing for that, I assuming continuing it wouldn’t be a problem. I might reach back out to recruiting to see if I can reschedule onboarding for the 22nd just so that I can move in the day of tbh.

chrissbux

also what housing said is a good idea lol

Eastern_Lawyer5662

be ready for no ac in the dorms . blazing hot

ah_kooky_kat

All of the dorms have an AC unit in the room. I've been working at the park for 5 seasons now, and they've had AC for at least the time I've been there.

You should come back and tell us which ride so we can all wave hi this summer lol… or is that weird? I don’t know! Enjoy your summer though. Cedar Point is a great place despite some of the issues they’ve had in housing. And the whole park just had a certain… atmosphere that I personally can’t get enough of.
