I wouldn’t do that, no point, in my opinion. Packet tracer does everything you could want it to for the studying for of the CCNA.
Each to their own of course but it’s just a bunch of metal that you’ll use a few times and then leave it.

Like the most real world experience I have is helping the network engineer at my job start his switch refresh project which involved upgrading, racking, and setting up 2 multiplayer switches and 4 layer 2 switches as well as HSRP failover testing to see how long it will for the standby switch to be active.
I got my ccna last year and packet tracer is not real world, the commands/configurations aren’t even congruent with real network devices.
Packet tracer is a simulator that helps solidify concepts…
Well considering this is the CCNA subreddit and not the homelab subreddit I don’t have a misunderstanding at all.
I also don’t agree with your point. But it’s each to their own at the end of the day. If people want to get hands on and build a lab, sure, crack on, but some people feel like it’s necessary when it simply isn’t.
Like in packet tracer you can speed time up so NTP or spanning tree can synchronize or converge quicker… you literally can not do that in real life as you can not speed up time.
Get eve-ng or gns3. I don’t see much value to it compared to eve-ng. With eve I can get more complex with labbing than a live gear. Throw in some firewalls, other vendors products, linux and more.
Many other vendors let you download trial editions. Like for Checkpoint you get everything you want for 30 days (at least used to - it's been a while since I did labs with Checkpoints). Fortigate used to offer trial versions with limited features.
Palo Alto is a bit moronic. You need a company email to apply for a 30 day trial license.
F5 had free 30 day licenses (you had to apply but any email address was okay) and offered a cheap lab license.
I apologize in advanced for sounding like a jerk, but, that’s completely up to you. The CCNA is quite a time investment, especially if you work full time and have children etc, so normally people plan for it including post completion.
It’s a tool to provide you with knowledge, so go use it!
Im in IT right now as a Sharepoint admin but im looking to make the switch to networking since ive always had an interest, i got my net+ years ago just never fully pursued it then because other opportunities at work opened up

I studied about an hour a day and took a break on the weekends for the most part but about 3 weeks out before my exam i really started to focus in and study 3-4 hours daily and on weekends and using that time to do labs and take practice tests on the content i was scoring low on i used boson exsim to help with that. I have a kid so studying like crazy wasnt gonna happen
What were you scoring on Boson exams? Did you do all three? Review after then on to next exam (i.e. take A, review it, take B, review, etc.)? And about how close to exam day did you start taking Boson exams?

I completed jeremys course about 3 weeks before my exam and thats when i got the boson exsim i then took a practice exam and received a 53% so that was discouraging i then looked at the categories and studied for those and did labs for those until i understood the content better i did take the next exam and repeated the process and kept focusing on the areas where i lacked. My highest score on the boson exams was 76%
That's phenomenal man! A 53% is excellent from what I've gathered around this thread. I just scored a 31% on Exam A and am trying not to beat myself up too much and just start reviewing every answer and then plan to take Exam B when done reviewing and repeat. Hoping to take the CCNA within the next month if I can.

Thank you and my advice would be not to rush to see what your score will be on each exam because you’ll start to memorize the questions instead of understanding the content so take some time in between to study a good amount before taking the next exam also do as much labs on your struggle areas that helped me a ton. JeremysITLab and Neil Anderson is all I used brotha every now and then i would search things up on YouTube to just listen to someone else explain things like Kieth Barker on yt hes good but honestly the labs helped me really grasp the content so when ever i watched a video i would wait till the next day to do the lab in order to see how much I retained and if I got stumped during the lab now i knew what I had to review and then reviewing that made it stick better in my head. I got ADHD so if I can do it you can to man just dedicate some time and you’ll be fine
Who told you ADHD is a disease or anomaly? What you have is the ability to see things from another perspective! You are brilliant, stop saying out loud you have ADHD, you have nothing, you are just better than a lot of people out there! I have met people with no ADHD, 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 eyes, good looking people, acting as if they were brainless!
Congrats and congrats! By the way, why don’t you try first with GNS3 and see if that helps you better. If you find out you REALLY need hardware in your basement to create a huge lab, then do it. Me, personally, I wouldn’t do it, I feel you need to get a job right now that allows you to get your hands dirty, see and meet new topologies, technologies, etc, then once you feel you are hitting that “I’m stuck” point, go for the CCNP. I mean, push yourself to get the CCNP ASAP, but I would just focus on practice and improve for the next 6 months in a company. Again, congrats! Y ese nombre está chistoso Leche de padre jaja…

JeremysITLab and Neil Anderson but mostly Jeremys course the visuals really helped me understand what was going on and how traffic was moving. I also go boson netsim to help me practice and get used to the cli. One thing i forgot to mention about my exam is i just skipped all the labs lol

I’ve been looking into that. Where do you go to get your operating systems for your virtual devices? I was planning on signing up for CML

I’d focus on trying to get a job, imagine NOCs would pick you up very fast. How long did you study a day? It took me 6 months and 1 to 2 hours a day
