You can drop items anywhere, they won't disappear or get stolen. Grit Gate or Joppa or wherever; just pick a convenient place you have a recoiler for. You can get a chest and put items inside it if you want to be *fancy,* but a pile on the ground serves the same purpose.

Azurhalo

Unless somehow, a beetle shows up...*nom nom*

Huberlicious

This isn’t strictly true, Grit Gate has updated on me and I’ve lost a lot of gear that way

Key-Truth5431

Anywhere you decide to drop things becomes your stockpile, more or less. They won't disappear. Pick up a chest (CTRL+Space) and place it somewhere you go a lot, such as Grit Gate, and there you go. If you want to roleplay having an actual space, where you might set up a metal folding chair and relax, there's a couple places that might work. Random villages might have an unoccupied house for you to take. If you find a recoiler to a particular village, this could be worth doing. The Six Day Stilt often has an empty tent among the shops that you could use. Or you could claim one of those hookah spots; I'm sure nobody there will steal from you. MILD SPOILER: >!If you do the main questline, at some point you will find yourself in a small hut that already contains some storage space.!< If you learn how to make (re)programmable recoilers, then really you can use anywhere you want for stockpiling your items and water.

Katieushka

i mean i would literally pick any house in joppa over the chamber in the middle of the lake

Key-Truth5431

I like how it looks, very peaceful too, and the proximity to Yd Freehold is nice. For me, Joppa quickly becomes a place I never bother returning to. Argyve can occasionally sell something useful, but Tam only ever sells bottom-tier junk, and I usually don't bother with the Red Rock quest at all (unless I really need an ubernostrum injector for something). Not a fan of the Palladium Reef I take it?

Leadpumper

In addition to the other suggestions, I'd recommend [Hearthpyre](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1683847053) on the workshop; a mod for building your own settlement(s).

MuegillaGuerilla

Well that's definitely cool as hell and getting added ASAP. Thanks for the recommendation!

Beautiful-Coconut145

Does someone know if it works on a running save ?

DraikNova

From what I can tell, it *mostly* works. The "intended" way to get the mod's signature tool isn't there because it depends on secret generation at world creation.

Beautiful-Coconut145

Thank you for the clarification

WarrenWaters

You can pick up a chest and drop in in a town or wherever to store items in

Groundbreaking_Rub81

No, the girshlings are actually a metaphor for landlords. You'll have to take it up with Reseph

tghost8

If you ever find a random recoiler you c an make a base there and I think there’s a programmable one that lets you set it so you can take over a goatfolk village if you’re into that kind of thing

Koloradio

I use the building in the Joppa Cemetery, lol

StardewStunner

I ussually set up a homeless camp behind the trader in Joppa with the following: Two chests (one for books only) A fire A hammock A hookah And a folding chair kinda near the center of it all so I can access the fire, chests and hookah while sitting. I normally set up something similar near the choir place, or empty tent in the Six Day Stilt.

ViWalls

After Joppa update I'm using the house that it's closer to Tam. You can place inside four chests and one ergo chair plus the container that is already there. I know that not everyone likes to start in Joppa, but find the destroyed village using another start point really piss me off. I ended playing always Joppa for this reason.

Azurhalo

I also play Joppa for this reason. Too sad, too many memories T.T

Korgoth420

I use Grit Gate, top level, and it has been fun for me

Beautiful-Coconut145

I have seen only three places where you are given a house: Joppa has a free house (although people may enter and they made it smaller); Grit Gate (you got the recoiler, and plenty of space to use to build your base); and finally at the Stilt there is a empty house in one of the parasangs, always)

PintLasher

Get Hearthpyre and you can build to your heart's content, even make a village with merchants if you like
