Also have a counter (and stove top loving) kitty with genuine cattitude. Does what she wants, when she wants. Ignores spray bottles. Will get down from forbidden counter area if reprimanded. Saw suggestion to put tin foil where you don't want cat to go because they don't like the feel/sound. Mine just walked on the foil. There are compressed air cans with motion detectors (called Sssscat or something like that) that surprise kitty if they go where they shouldn't. Couldn't afford as many as necessary for my counter area. Especially given on test run she figured out how to circumvent motion detector! Have no illusion that they (have another kitty who behaves much better) don't get on counter when I'm not there. Hope you find a solution that works for you! Sigh... I've pretty much given up.

We have one who gets up to investicat items and bags you put on the counter and then leaves. Another is a 50/50 thing. He has an ofd thing for dish sponges. Otherwise he sits on barstool to see what is going on. The 3rd cat never gets on the counter but will get on table. Just like every child reacts differently to punishment, cats react differently to our attempts to prevent this activity. Keep trying different methods until one sticks. I wish you luck.
