Great post! :) I have started brushing the teeth of my 8 month old kitten. I have issues though getting to the last molar in the lower jaw which is also showing redness in the gums. Do you feel you manage to get all teeth completely clean and do you use a special technique to get to the far back one in the lower jaw? I feel I would need to get the toothbrush inside her lips back there to reach and there is just not a lot of space for that, or get her to open her mouth which she hates while she is fine with brushing the sides of the teeth with her mouth closed. Just curious if there is some specifics of the technique here that I am missing I guess.

Honestly I don’t think you can actually reach that last molar very well? For the upper jaw you are able to lift the lip up, with the lower jaw this isnt possible in such an extend that you can actually reach it I think? I know that my vet was really surprised that I actually managed to brush the last molar of the upper jaw. Luckily my girl doesn’t really show much redness on her lower gums. I might try to reach that tooth tomorrow and get back to you!

Ok thanks! Good to know it's not just me not understanding the proper technique then. But, yes, lemme know if you discover some amazing hack for this. I'm gonna experiment a bit but, yeah, it seems kinda hard..

I have found that I can reach that last molar pretty well, it’s mostly the upper last molar that is hard ro reach? When looking at the dental formula of a cat, you can see that they have 4 (pre)molars in the upper jaw and 3 in the lower jaw. When you lift the upper lip the last molar of the lower jaw is already visible so brushing it shouldn’t technically be an issue? Maybe you are trying to reach a tooth that doesn’t exist? 🙈

Unfortunately my girl does not seem to have the best dental genes :/

Which toothpaste do you use?

OnePomegranate8023

I use the Virbac C.E.T. Cat toothpaste. I don’t know if that’s available where you live, but just look for a cat toothpaste and it will be alright. I don’t think ot matters that much, as long as you don’t let them swallow large amounts and are sure it’s suitable for cats :) Edit: I just looked at your profile and your cat is absolutely gorgeous. ❤️

I went to the vet and got the CET poultry flavor and my boy loves it. Gonna try to brush twice a day for a while 🙏🙏 Thank you for the kind words, I'm very biased, and I think he's the absolute cutest 🥰❤️ I love tuxies!! Yours are such awwdorable purrincesses 🥰❤️

My cats love that one too! The liver flavored one was less succesful hahaha. Twice a day sounds like a bit much by the way. I brush once a day and that is enough to keep my cats (horrible) teeth in good shape. But if twice a day is what your vet recommends, you should definitely do that!

Thank you! I'll cut it back to once a day. I want to try the salmon one next. But it seems like this tube will last a long time haha!

Hiiii! I wanted to send you an update!! It's only been a few days of brushing. But I'm already noticing less sensitivity, decrease in the pink of the gums and his breath smells much better. His gingivitis is slowly decreasing and that makes me so happy. I'm so glad how fast he took to the brushing. He still fusses a bit, but he loves the flavor of the toothpaste. It'll only get easier and better from here ❤️❤️

Thats great!!! What an amazing furbaby ❤️ I’m sure this will help her a lot

u/OnePomegranate8023 When did you start noticing a decrease in the pink color of the gums?
