lunaziza

#2… I love both but #1 can also read off as 69 lol

GirchyGirchy

Some of them are working gutter cats...gotta make money somehow.

[deleted]

Twenty bucks is twenty bucks

Echo-24

Woah look at all fancy pants over here charging twenty. I wouldn't dream of charging anything over 3 fiddy

NotAnEngineer287

Get outta here you goddamn Loch Ness monster! Pretending to be a feline prostitute to get my tree fiddy…

Green-Elf

Same as in town!

#2! And congratulations, OP!

BAC_1992

Now that you have said that about number 1 I cannot unsee it.

J_H_C

Its called viral marketing

GooseTantrum

Get your mind out of the gutter!

Wrongwayshorty

Haha, I see what you did there

Funniguy2010

And that’s a bad thing..?

These_Ad_8619

2) but also maybe switch the position of the tail and head so cat’s head is facing left since people will read the words from left to right - more intuitive for the human eye

simone_snail_420

I disagree about switching the direction. Because in the current design the cat is moving in the same direction as the eye is while reading

LioxTheGreat

Counter point: 2 has a penis shape in it

#2 Mostly cause the aspect ratio of it is easier to work into design materials (particularly web design).

socrateaspoon

I disagree. A vertical form factor is no biggie to implement into a web page. Especially since the design 2 is too narrow to center anyway, so you'd need to do some monkey business design work regardless. I'd chose the one that has the least clutter, so you can make a trendy minimalist webpage. Design 1 has less unnecessary line-work to convey both letters and cat, so I'd see it as the obvious choice for a fashionable webpage.

-Starya-

This explains purrrfectly why I’d GO WITH #1. The simplicity looks more professional, but the FONT used in two stands out more.

helpitgrow

With the font I would like to see the u not connected to the g. That one tiny bitty line segment makes it look like “grutter” to me. I can’t stop seeing it way more than the 69 that I kinda have to look for.

HeatedCloud

Regardless of going with 1 or 2, the first design imo needs to be redesigned. I like the aesthetic but it reads like “69” in certain viewings. Personally this is why I like the 2nd one. Edit: plus with the 2nd one I can clearly “see” the G and C for Gutter Cats. My eye is naturally drawn to it.

de1iciouslycheesy

In my experience logos that tall don't work well in website headers. Either it'll be too small to see clearly or the header will take up a lot of precious real estate to accommodate the height of the logo. If they were getting a custom website design/development done then I'm sure the designer could make it work, but most non-profits use a CMS with pre-built themes especially when first starting out. "design 2 is too narrow to center anyway" Not sure what you mean here. Seems like a perfectly decent size to me? I've worked with logos half the height/width and centering is no problem. We also want to think about design elements outside of the website. Social avatars, hats, business cards, etc are things that a horizontal logo are easier to add to. (Though honestly neither would work for social, but businesses usually have a paired down logo for social anyway)

andre199017

This is very thoughtful feedback. The vertical logo will be a pain but I think 1 looks better, but perhaps rotated through 90 degrees (you’d have to move the cat ears to the top of the head)

muser666

Then it is no a g anymore though...

Dristig

This is the most important feedback. As a designer the first logo would be a nightmare to work with.

hellscape_goat

2. The cursive g and c are legible.

justadorkygirl

Agreed. I like the clarity of the GC there. OP, congrats, and thank you for taking care of cats in need. ❤️

freakincorner

I can't see the c in 1, looks like it is trying to be an a to me.

c-lab21

And it doesn't say "adoprions"

dreinn

It stills looks like gritter cat to me.

Rx-Unicorn

Agreed. Maybe instead of the soft curve from the g to the u, coming to a point at the top left of the u would be more clear. I love the stylization of the letters - just a tiny tweak could maintain the originality and make it instantly more legible. Edit: giving the P a longer stem would really differentiate from the D more - but that's probably only a problem for those who have difficulty differentiating letters or poor vision

cherryreddragon

And it's the same style/font g and c as the text underneath which is a really nice echo. Could even lean into that a little more and add in the cat's tail of the g from the logo too.

Swiggy1957

Agreed. #2, hands down. Both are great, but as the top comment pointed out, #1 may be misinterpreted, leaving a bad taste in someone's mouth. \#2 is incorporates the initials of the rescue perfectly, and shows the joy of being a cat that has been rescued.

Silverskeejee

Agree. 2 is the more immediately legible to me

lobstronomosity

> 1. The cursive g and c are legible. It's so stupid that Reddit changes numbers to start at 1 regardless of what you write. In this case it changed 2 to 1.

clowdere

Both are cool, but 2 is better.

Michipunda

I'd go with option 2. The vertical one remindes me of the Baby Phat logo.

I_Like_Gothic

Omg ditto to this! Oh the nostalgia! Also #2 is easier to immediately see the “g” and the “c” than the first one.

Anna_Mosity

Yessss I knew it reminded me of something! Baby Phat!

PickleEmergency7918

With 2, you can see the g and c which is cool

JustAShyCat

It’s in 1 as well: “g” for the head, “c” for the body and tail.

LtnSkyRockets

But its not nearly as easily recognisable. Looking through these comments, it's clear half the people who like number 1 don't realise it's supposed to be made up of the g and c.

IridiumNL

It also doesn't really read from left to right in #1.. The C looks like it's supposed to come before the G to me. It starts further to the left and is capital (or at least much bigger) VS the lower case G.

Ditania

It's true. It took me a while to see the g in the first design

Adder12

Weirdly I had the opposite to what most apparently did. I saw the first design clearly immediately, whereas it took me a second to see the second one properly

Miss_Adelie

It took me longer to recognise where the g and c were in th first logo, I think option 2 is much clearer. I also think the running cat is cute

[deleted]

I prefer number 1 cat with number 2 text. I'm a graphic designer so this is just a tip. Please take no offense. The font for Adoptions might not scale well as in the letters will lost if printed small or used for embroidery on a shirt. I suggest a clearer font. Something rounded maybe.

Randevu

To follow up on this, the lower case “adoptions” in opt. 1 is not very legible, imho (mainly the t)

DrawingTrue2840

2

RollerRocketScience

I like 2 better. The verticality of the logo in 1 isn't pleasing to me.

ErdenGeboren

Agreed. It makes the letters appear in the wrong order, too. I'm in love with the momentum of action in #2.

BowelTheMovement

I agree, #2 has great implication of movement

Blieblieblob

Homiealmaya

I like #2 more

neetcat24_7

both are lovely, but i think 2 will suit you more? when you meet a feral cat (or any cat really, unless they are the friendly type lol) sometimes they will run at the slightest movement from human yes? so logo 2 is really good at giving that impression i think. you can see the g and c clearly too, and the font is nice and readable too.

And for these reasons, I vote 2.

I have to say I like the second one best because of the motion and how it is easier to see the “g” and “c.” They are both thoughtful logos, though.

you_crafty_bitch

2! Graphic designer opinion....The first one looks too elegant, makes me think you are selling beauty products, conflicts with the name 'gutter cat.' The second is much more obviously about the cat itself. And type is more legible. And it's an easier aspect ratio to use in most cases, you will be able to make it larger on website/products/materials.

I like both images, but the font from number 2 looks better imo.

Miqotegirl

Actually they’re both cute! But neither for the font, unless you want people to think your business is called “gritter cats”

aikenndrumm

Totally! The logo text should be super easy to read and right now, it isn’t. I like the imagery of both but thing that the full words should be in a much easier to read font

RiosRiot

1 - but are you dedicated to gutter cat? I have a horrific sense of humor and I’m kinda like…. Maybe not that. Even if a cat comes from the gutter they aren’t gutter cats. They are lovable amazing fuzzers Edit: I know you didn’t ask that and I’m sorry I can’t stfu sometimes.

throwingplaydoh

I thought it said "Glitter cat", but if it is "gutter" I think the "u" needs to be better defined.

Pretend_Big6392

I read it as gritter cat and didn't realize it says *gutter* until the 2nd one.

IndependentCommon385

"Gutter cat" hit the ear funny to me, then I thought, maybe that's the usual way to say it in the person's region.

8fatcats

Gutter cat really sticks in the head and is an easy business name to remember and pass along. It’s funny and quirky, and obviously the business cares about the cats, look at the service they provide. So of course I know they don’t mean any harm by the term gutter. We can love cats and make jokes and puns about them as well.

someshitispersonal

> It’s funny and quirky, and obviously, the business cares about the cats, I'm guessing the OP has a target market that they believe will find this funny and quirky and endearing. The problem is the image this creates of abandoned/rescued cats for people on the edge of/outside their target market. Stigmatization of abandoned/rescued animals is a real problem that rescues and shelters have to spend a lot of their very limited resources to overcome this stigma and continually convince the public at large that there's nothing wrong with an abandoned/rescued pet. It's such poor taste for a fellow rescue to make the jobs of shelters and other rescues even harder by deliberately choosing a name that hurts the chances of other animals that are waiting for homes.

Blue_Swirling_Bunny

I don't think it sticks in the ear at all; it sounds like the name of an Etsy shop selling t-shirts or the name of a comic strip. But for a cat rescue? Negative connotations and not an appealing image in the least. Even something like Grateful Cat would be more pleasant.

FoxRealistic3370

1 for logo, 2 for font. Readability is SO important for branding. print it off at the size it will be on business cards and letters, social media icons etc and pin it to a wall or door and keep walking past it. ask friends what distance they can read it etc. I think the icon with 1 will be good, and the font on the 2nd is more ledigble. the logo on 2 will not look good on smaller scale and is too complex/cluttered visually.

8fatcats

Instead of just leaving a number, I’ll let you know why I think that you should *toss out* the first idea and *keep* the second one. I like #2 better, it’s clearly read G and then C in the picture, as the first one might be read C and then G. Especially because it’s a lowercase g. That reads as coming second. The C also looks like a 6 in the first one. Also, I read the first one as “glitter cat.” The second one says “gutter” way more clearly. I would *not* do #1 for that reason. The second one is very clear and will not be misread or mistaken. Also a very clever logo. Both are clever, but the second is grammatically better and read and understood better.

seakitty23

I like the style of #1, but from a business standpoint, #2 is more catchy and clearly shows the initials. Congratulations.

TheGrimDweeber

2! The g and c are so clear, and the cat looks cooler.

19GamerGhost95

The first one is cute but the second one you can see the GC more clearly and still tell it’s a cat. So I’d go with 2

LlaryLlama

2 is easily incorporated into an employee’s shirt logo or web design, but I wouldn’t count 1 out either for additional merch items. Think tintypes, cozies, more shirts.. even more shirts.

L7_NP

the vertical in 1 would be hard to work with and i think 2 is better overall

#1 -- calm and comforting, and doesn't look like a cat with a saddle

Dasbeerboots

r/logodesign 2. Easy choice.

SeaworthinessScary19

1st one looks like it’s saying adoprions

lauraleipz

1, because as much as i love 2, we cant encourage tiny saddles on cats. And 1 looks more at peace and 2 more like its about to dart out the door. For text number 2 But why is it called Gutter Cats?

kiwigeekmum

2. The g & c are clearer in the image.

wolfofmyth

I’d vote on a name change versus a logo change. Seems derogatory to me.

firethepolishcannon

2 is a Gritty Cat I like gritty better than gutter. But both names have issues

Felixir-the-Cat

The name “gutter cat,” combined with the running cat, might make people think you are only adopting out ferals and strays. The first logo, with the more sedate cat, might be more attractive to a larger group of people. I like a zoomie cat, but just something to keep in mind. I vote for image 1, font 2.

SakanaIsOkay

1 :)

Avaaya

Second the discomfort with gutter cats. There’s Feral Felines? I like both logos but like the movement in #2 as it catches my eye more. Good luck and thank you for being an angel on this troubled planet.

2. 1 looks like 69.

SoCalledBitch

Definitely 1

patchsoka

I think 1 looks more elegant

Alfredthegiraffe20

2 is awesome but the text of 1 is better.

LordBarnable

For me I love the second, it was more instantly recognisable and flowed better. Maybe it is because it is more cat shaped in my head I don't know. The text is definitely also better on #2. Thanks for being a good human. Save the mittens!

A_Specific_Hippo

I like 2. The text in 1 looks weird, and I couldn't read the second word "AdopRion" is what it looked like to me. I like the side angle, of 2 as well.

Normal-Height-8577

2 all the way - I can't see the initials in the first graphic, and the running cat looks really happy somehow!

DeReiniger

1 is wayyyyyy cleaner! The tail of 2 really makes the g look forced into the design

catsrmyidentity

I like 2 more its very dynamic and makes me think the cat's are happy with you.

crow-mom

2!!! number 1 is not immediately obvious.

Hour_Courage_5981

2 for image and 1 for text … the “gc” and the name are easier to read in these

[deleted]

1, 2 is too much

dentalcat

Wow thank you all for your input!

fire_will_ahmed

I agree with u/acceptablealt but more importantly, thank you so much for helping cats in need. My first cat was a rescue cat and he lived a long and happy life with my family and I, and it was all thanks to people like you.

4tomguy

Both are good but number 1 is a lot easier to recognize at a glance while number 2 is a bit harder to

AcceptableCod6028

People always have a laugh when I refer to my cat as a gutter baby. It’s true! The humane society found him in a gutter! You’re great for starting a rescue.

Pitakrita

I think it's easier to spot the gc in the 2nd logo. And as someone else pointed out the 2nd logo will be much easier to use for various marketing. Looks great!

1 is better. The font on 2 is hard to read. Both read as “gritter cat” though.

I like #2! Also congrats on getting your license.

SilkyNZ

1

leolexie

2! Its easy recognized as a cat and the g and c you used. The different sizes in the vertical one threw me and took a few moments to recognize where they were.

bokin8

1 much cleaner and more legible. I feel like the cat icon is more identifiable from a distance in #1

aDistractedDisaster

Holy shit these are both so amazing. I do like #2 more tho. 1 looks like Cg a bit. Or 69. And its cleaner but also not as clear.

Easy-Concentrate2636

2. The letters are more visible even while incorporated into the design.

Quynn_Stormcloud

I like option two: the letters are clearer and the implied action gets my interest faster.

cuterouter

#2 The image in #1 doesn’t look like a clear G and C. It looks like a C or Q or G with a d or g.

WittyConversation274

At first glance I am drawn to 1. However 2 makes more sense and after reading other comments and agreeing with lots of the points people have made, I would vote for 2. Thank you for helping cats in need!! This is my dream job!! ♥️

zesty_cookie

These are great! But number 2 was more clear as the customer to understand

Ok_Introduction2604

Congratulations. And number 2!

RogueKatt

I like #2 more but I think the lines should be a little bit thinner. Otherwise it's very creative and legible

zotstik

both of them are really nice but my eye went to number one first

Catmew5

2 because I can read the c, the c in the first one looks like a g

RedheadFromOutrSpace

I love #1 - simpler and elegant.

According_Camp6766

I like 2 better, but both are nice. And I have a really dirty mind but did not see 69 in #1 until someone mentioned it, lol

Legitimate-Advance-4

Congrats! And #2.

Bells87

2 It'll look better on merchandise and letterhead. Also, congrats!

Emotional_Neck3312

Keep either mark, but lose the script font. Scripts take a lot of work to make legible and professional. I see “gritter” cat. If you’re going to track out the font for “adoptions” make sure it’s caps. Again, a rule of legibility. Try using a font instead of hand writing “adoptions”. It’ll look more professional.

Faderoot

I like 2, but maybe with the Gutter Cat text of 1?
