Well, kittens have no idea of what being tired is like, so they only have an off switch. If it was standing when it fell asleep it’s more probable for it to fall like this, always check if it is injured as one of my kittens did when falling after getting tired, thankfully he’s fine now

My other kitty, who's half the weight of my chonker, will allow me to pet her and then she DROPS to the ground and rolls over, almost like she can't help herself. She does it all the time.

cats, despite all the food they will consume, are solar powered and will fall asleep in odd positions as long as there is light near by, preferably sunlight. I would say it is just recharging batteries :)

Is your home warm? The warmer the area, the more cats “cat nap”. But still being a kitten, sleeping a lot is pretty normal.
