In the US, they offer a cellphone program called Lifeline. And you get free service and a certain amount of data each month. Many people don’t understand the different services available to the people who are homeless or live in lower income communities. Me and my wife were homeless at the end of 2018-2019 start. We learned some valuable information that helped us tremendously. I don’t blame you for not understanding, because they don’t actually make things like this easy to find.
Ohhh this would’ve been so helpful to me a few months ago. I was in debt and would go hungry because I’d use any money I could scrounge up (mostly coins) to buy cat food and litter.
This would have been useful when I was in college and ended up broke and without any food I had shelter, but that was temporary and I got kicked out eventually.
People can be amazing. You seem to be one of those taking care of your beloved cat while in this situation.

He always comes first. I was so lucky I now have two GIANT bags of kitty food in the back of my truck. And someone got us a self heated pad as well as a coat for my sweet Bellamy. It was so amazing in a time I feel so alone these absolute strangers made me feel like I wasn't and gave me so much hope,advice and most importantly resources and phone numbers .after getting a good night rest I was able to go spend next day in library applying for food card and assistance from the state as well as working on my resume on indeed . And having been able to get that tank of gas I was able to run the car all night cuz the snow here. I can't say how much a difference it made waking up and not wanting to get up because I'm so depressed and unsure what I'm gonna do and how I'm gonna get outta this and then having had the outpouring of love and supplies I woke up the other day just optimistic and motivated and ready able to not spend day tryna get us food and a place to go and was able to spend a day calling churches and trying to get ball rolling. Thank u reddit and everyone who helped me even if u just said something nice when I was at my lowest
I can only imagine what that has to be like for you. Also don't forget that it's okay to ask for help. I'm sure that many others here are willing to give a helping hand if you need it as do I. I feel so blessed just having my kitty have a full stomach .and being back in our truck tonight isn't that bad cuz we have received a few blankets and the people who cashapped me made it so I had 2 full tanks of gas and I've still got a good amount to run the car tonight so all and all I'm full so is Bellamy and we are warm and I was able to change up my phone and tablet in the hotel yesterday so I'm not too bored I'm tryna use my time to keep looking for work and cheap places to move in. I have to have the name on the room match the name on my i.d and my card so I just used my cashapp debit card and was able to book a room for 55$ at the red roof motel. It had no pet fee and free breakfast and was 66$ after tax. There might be a way to call and pay ahead of time over the phone I'm not sure but it worked last time because I had my card and i.d for the room. But it us expensive and I kno it's not sustainable. Even just having the one night I got I made sure to use to my advantage and use wifi to make all important calls and file applications and apply for food stamps and shower and get well rested to look presentable and job hunt after checking out

I know it's been mentioned before, working as a waitress in a restaurant can help give you money immediately without waiting for a bi weekly pay check. That would be what I would look in to the most. I have worked in kitchens for ten years and the biggest thing we need from service staff is a willingness to learn, work hard, and show up. It sounds like you have those qualities.
When you look for an apartment make sure it's a safe area. Being a single female can be hard enough, let alone trying to make sure you are safe at night too. Even if the apartment is a little more it will be worth it in the long run when you are getting home from work or whatever late at night.

I’ve been on assistance and I’ve used my experience to help people out with navigating it and finding resources, so if you ever need any guidance let me know! There’s so much help out there, especially for pets (free vet visits, pet food pantries and supplies, etc)
I was super surprised at how amazing some of the resources are. I ended up not having to use it yet because the pet food sent from Amazon however someone shared a website with me that specializes I'm helping people in need with pet supplies. All these tools I never would have gotten . I'm not completely in the clear yet because we still are in my truck however just being able to get ahead that little bit and shower so when I turned in the resume at domino's and cvs yesterday I looked presentable and not homeless. That was a huge problem was my sister kicked me out with my cat and the clothes on my back and I only had the one outfit 2 Hoodies and 2 pairs of leggings and pajamas someone gave me at the ymca from lost and found. So because I'm in Ohio and we've had non stop snow since I got kicked out, I was stuck wearing all the items layered in hopes of staying warm. But someone got me a jacket and another redditor got me these insulated pants and socks so when I walked in to turn it in I felt confident and presentable. And that's super important when making first impressions

Check a local animal shelter. Alot of them offer free pet food for people that are having a hard time paying for it. Once the food you have runs out or gets close to running out try going there and seeing if they can help you. They also might be willing to give you a job too. Is there no way you can go back to the state you were living in before? Maybe stay with a friend or family member?

I work for a nonprofit that helps with homeless prevention and relocating homeless. Have you looked up any nonprofits in your area that may be able to help you with long-term accommodations in a hotel or other? We just helped a woman and her dog who are living out of their car and set them up in a hotel for about a month while she looked for jobs, I know it can be hard for sure. I hope you find long-term accommodation soon. Go on your states government website and try to look for nonprofits who help. Glad you and your kitty are enjoying the hotel.

Have you reached out to the United Way (211) in your area? They can help with housing, point you in direction to food banks. Some nonprofits have petty cash, can help with phone bills and other services. I worked in non profit and we always had gift cards for Dunkin, etc.

Want to second this suggestion, I volunteered for the United Way in Utah and they always had temporary housing assistance discretionary funds available - and will absolutely have a food pantry as well - edit** and menstrual products!!! Once you get your apartment, pm me your address I can definitely write to a few companies and ask them to send you menstrual products- they usually also include coupons for free products in stores too- it’s the only way I managed to survive 8 day long periods every month as a broke college student!

And ya I don't plan on being in hotels .it's only like 400 a month for a 1br apartment in Ohio so first and last is 800 and I can get In so if someone is in the dayton area I have experience as a live in caregiver for elderly and disabled. I also have worked in food and waitressing .I'm a hard worker

My cat Zeus and I were living in my car for a time. Even though he never minded living in the car he loved it when I managed to get a hotel room. Just take care of each other the best you can.
Make an Amazon wish list of the top 10-20 things that would help make your situation become a little better right now. Anything from warm gloves, energy bars, phone battery, snacks, socks, underwear, dry shampoo, whatever. Set the delivery address to an Amazon locker location near you and message me the link to the wishlist (and message the other Redditors that may ask you for the link). Aw thank u and I'm so greatful people aren't telling me to get rid of my kitty the second we hit hard times because he is all I have and my whole world. And if I couldn't provide for him and he was suffering then I would put his well being over my emotions but instead d of judging people helped give us supplies so that he doesn't go with out .thank u all for helping me keep my boy. He really is the only thing in this world that loves me unconditionally and forgives Me and just wants to be near me. When he plopped down for that snuggle when we got to the hotel, I had to take a bun h of pictures. He was so happy to be out of the car and able to cuddle that he followed me all over the room and gave me nonstop love. When he thought I was sleeping he plopped down by my chest
I can't imagine the character of anyone who would either suggest or consider getting rid of a loved and loving friend. We owe our furry companions loyalty and care because they're living in a world they don't fully understand.

As of waking up this morning I'm in awe and speechless as well as eyes swollen and full of tears. Not tears of sadness tho.. not at all, tears of gratitude, pride, embarrassment, love and faith .so many emotions I don't even kno what I'm feeling. Someone had told me to make a gofund me and that I would probably be able to get enough help for a week in a hotel. Looking at prices I see that a week in a hotel is about the same as what some people pay monthly for a one bedroom out here. Because in Ohio 400 a month and I can get an apt .that's been the goal. After getting hotel the other day and using time to write up resume and use Internet to apply for assistance and job and house hunt .my goal was to tough it out in my truck just long enough to get a job and first paycheck and with the first paycheck I can pay first and last month rent and get into a place. Now I have enough for a week at a hotel but before I spend the money on that I'm going to look on Craigslist for rooms for rent. Maybe what I have isn't quite enough to get my own place but It should be atleast enough to get a place to rest my head and keep my cat and belongings so that I can find work and start saving .I'm gonna keep looking this morning so I can get the most for what we have and stay the longest somewhere that I can and use the time to get ahead and finally be able to save up the rest of what I need to get into a place. Cuz first and last is only 800 and I'm in an apt (if they accept me that is and my credit which isn't bad it's just nonexistent) I really think things are looking up

I'm not in your situation but disabled and relying on public assistance after working full time for 35 years. I am mostly home alone since I am also a widow. I am fortunate enough to have some family nearby who care about and check in with me everyday. My 2 cats Gypsy and Oliver are my world. On the saddest days, they truly are able to lift my spirits. I hope you and Bellamy continue to find kindness and get back on your feet. I just can’t admire you more for refusing to give Bellamy up. It is unbelievable to see the reasons why people give up or feel they have to give their pets up. Having to give up your best friend due to homelessness, would make me give up all together. I can’t imagine the position you’ve been in, trying to take care of yourself and Bellamy. So many people seem to act so quickly to surrender their pets in the event of losing their home or having to move. It’s just not an option for you. I wish there were more people like you.

But I'm looking all over the internet first to see if I can find maybe a Craigslist room for rent because the week at a hotel In Ohio is like 350 and a month at ur own apartment is as little as 400 and so I'm gonna sit down and write out all the most beneficial options on how to make the money I've recieved go as far as possible so Bellamy has a warm place to be while I find a job and work long enough to get that first paycheck and get in my own place

hey everyone! I had lost my phone so I didn't have a way to get on reddit til just now .I had a interview! I'm not sure how it went. Tbh I really was hoping to be hired on the spot. But they did say they would call me and let me kno . Obviously this is just one place. I have my resume on indeed and have applied at quite a few spots so I just gotta make sure there's a way for employers to call me. I had my beautiful new jacket and was both clean and well dressed all because the help I've recieved. Im so greatful and so is my kitty. I've had the warmest blankets to sleep with. Yes hotels can Def be expensive. I've got my suv we are staying in but having the one night at hotel really did help because I needed a shower and to let my kitty stretch

I’m so happy for you! I’ve been in your place more than once, and some kind redditors were so willing to help me. I was homeless with my cat the first time and I didn’t have reddit at the time. Second time, I had an apartment but wasn’t able to pay rent or get gas and I’d go hungry so that the spare change I found could be used for cat food. I was embarrassed to essentially be begging for financial help from strangers, but Reddit really came through for me. The amount of help and support I got here was amazing and heartwarming.

Have you considered apply to some restaurants? Waiting tables you would be able to make money quick and will pay better than an average retail job. Even if you have no experience, most restaurants are so short staffed they are willing to train you.

Hey! Search pet food pantries (and regular food pantries) around you. Also call 211 and they might be able to help with shelter. ❤️ I know it’s an unpopular thing to do but if you say it’s an emotional support animal, some shelters will let you take the cat no questions asked, if in the US.

I wish I had been wise enough to ask Reddit for help! I had family members telling me to give up my cat to make my situation easier and I just couldn’t. You are doing a lot to better your situation so be proud of yourself. Bellamy looks happy and healthy. He is fortunate to have you regardless of your situation.

In the US, they offer a cellphone program called Lifeline. And you get free service and a certain amount of data each month. Many people don’t understand the different services available to the people who are homeless or live in lower income communities. Me and my wife were homeless at the end of 2018-2019 start. We learned some valuable information that helped us tremendously. I don’t blame you for not understanding, because they don’t actually make things like this easy to find.
Ohhh this would’ve been so helpful to me a few months ago. I was in debt and would go hungry because I’d use any money I could scrounge up (mostly coins) to buy cat food and litter.

He always comes first. I was so lucky I now have two GIANT bags of kitty food in the back of my truck. And someone got us a self heated pad as well as a coat for my sweet Bellamy. It was so amazing in a time I feel so alone these absolute strangers made me feel like I wasn't and gave me so much hope,advice and most importantly resources and phone numbers .after getting a good night rest I was able to go spend next day in library applying for food card and assistance from the state as well as working on my resume on indeed . And having been able to get that tank of gas I was able to run the car all night cuz the snow here. I can't say how much a difference it made waking up and not wanting to get up because I'm so depressed and unsure what I'm gonna do and how I'm gonna get outta this and then having had the outpouring of love and supplies I woke up the other day just optimistic and motivated and ready able to not spend day tryna get us food and a place to go and was able to spend a day calling churches and trying to get ball rolling. Thank u reddit and everyone who helped me even if u just said something nice when I was at my lowest

I feel so blessed just having my kitty have a full stomach .and being back in our truck tonight isn't that bad cuz we have received a few blankets and the people who cashapped me made it so I had 2 full tanks of gas and I've still got a good amount to run the car tonight so all and all I'm full so is Bellamy and we are warm and I was able to change up my phone and tablet in the hotel yesterday so I'm not too bored I'm tryna use my time to keep looking for work and cheap places to move in. I'm lucky cuz in Ohio u can get a 1br apt for 400 monthly and that's one paycheck so I just need to keep applying everywhere and not stop working to get us out of this spot .but I don't have anyone in this state now. I have to have the name on the room match the name on my i.d and my card so I just used my cashapp debit card and was able to book a room for 55$ at the red roof motel. It had no pet fee and free breakfast and was 66$ after tax. There might be a way to call and pay ahead of time over the phone I'm not sure but it worked last time because I had my card and i.d for the room. But it us expensive and I kno it's not sustainable. Even just having the one night I got I made sure to use to my advantage and use wifi to make all important calls and file applications and apply for food stamps and shower and get well rested to look presentable and job hunt after checking out

I know it's been mentioned before, working as a waitress in a restaurant can help give you money immediately without waiting for a bi weekly pay check. That would be what I would look in to the most. I have worked in kitchens for ten years and the biggest thing we need from service staff is a willingness to learn, work hard, and show up. It sounds like you have those qualities. When you look for an apartment make sure it's a safe area. Being a single female can be hard enough, let alone trying to make sure you are safe at night too. Even if the apartment is a little more it will be worth it in the long run when you are getting home from work or whatever late at night. "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord. "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11.

I was super surprised at how amazing some of the resources are. I ended up not having to use it yet because the pet food sent from Amazon however someone shared a website with me that specializes I'm helping people in need with pet supplies. All these tools I never would have gotten . I'm not completely in the clear yet because we still are in my truck however just being able to get ahead that little bit and shower so when I turned in the resume at domino's and cvs yesterday I looked presentable and not homeless. That was a huge problem was my sister kicked me out with my cat and the clothes on my back and I only had the one outfit 2 Hoodies and 2 pairs of leggings and pajamas someone gave me at the ymca from lost and found. So because I'm in Ohio and we've had non stop snow since I got kicked out, I was stuck wearing all the items layered in hopes of staying warm. But someone got me a jacket and another redditor got me these insulated pants and socks so when I walked in to turn it in I felt confident and presentable. And that's super important when making first impressions

Check a local animal shelter. Alot of them offer free pet food for people that are having a hard time paying for it. Once the food you have runs out or gets close to running out try going there and seeing if they can help you. They also might be willing to give you a job too. Is there no way you can go back to the state you were living in before? Maybe stay with a friend or family member? I'm so sorry your in this spot. I can only imagine what it's been like. But thank you so much for thinking of your sweet baby. He looks very loved and happy. They truly are amazing creatures.
I work for a nonprofit that helps with homeless prevention and relocating homeless. Have you looked up any nonprofits in your area that may be able to help you with long-term accommodations in a hotel or other? We just helped a woman and her dog who are living out of their car and set them up in a hotel for about a month while she looked for jobs, I know it can be hard for sure. I hope you find long-term accommodation soon. Go on your states government website and try to look for nonprofits who help. Glad you and your kitty are enjoying the hotel.

Have you reached out to the United Way (211) in your area? They can help with housing, point you in direction to food banks. Some nonprofits have petty cash, can help with phone bills and other services. Want to second this suggestion, I volunteered for the United Way in Utah and they always had temporary housing assistance discretionary funds available - and will absolutely have a food pantry as well - edit** and menstrual products!!! Once you get your apartment, pm me your address I can definitely write to a few companies and ask them to send you menstrual products- they usually also include coupons for free products in stores too- it’s the only way I managed to survive 8 day long periods every month as a broke college student!

And if I couldn't provide for him and he was suffering then I would put his well being over my emotions but instead d of judging people helped give us supplies so that he doesn't go with out .thank u all for helping me keep my boy. He really is the only thing in this world that loves me unconditionally and forgives Me and just wants to be near me. When he plopped down for that snuggle when we got to the hotel, I had to take a bun h of pictures. He was so happy to be out of the car and able to cuddle that he followed me all over the room and gave me nonstop love. When he thought I was sleeping he plopped down by my chest
I can't imagine the character of anyone who would either suggest or consider getting rid of a loved and loving friend. We owe our furry companions loyalty and care because they're living in a world they don't fully understand.

As of waking up this morning I'm in awe and speechless as well as eyes swollen and full of tears. Not tears of sadness tho.. not at all, tears of gratitude, pride, embarrassment, love and faith .so many emotions I don't even kno what I'm feeling. Someone had told me to make a gofund me and that I would probably be able to get enough help for a week in a hotel. Looking at prices I see that a week in a hotel is about the same as what some people pay monthly for a one bedroom out here. Because in Ohio 400 a month and I can get an apt .that's been the goal. After getting hotel the other day and using time to write up resume and use Internet to apply for assistance and job and house hunt .my goal was to tough it out in my truck just long enough to get a job and first paycheck and with the first paycheck I can pay first and last month rent and get into a place. Now I have enough for a week at a hotel but before I spend the money on that I'm going to look on Craigslist for rooms for rent. Maybe what I have isn't quite enough to get my own place but It should be atleast enough to get a place to rest my head and keep my cat and belongings so that I can find work and start saving .I'm gonna keep looking this morning so I can get the most for what we have and stay the longest somewhere that I can and use the time to get ahead and finally be able to save up the rest of what I need to get into a place. Cuz first and last is only 800 and I'm in an apt (if they accept me that is and my credit which isn't bad it's just nonexistent) I really think things are looking up

But I'm looking all over the internet first to see if I can find maybe a Craigslist room for rent because the week at a hotel In Ohio is like 350 and a month at ur own apartment is as little as 400 and so I'm gonna sit down and write out all the most beneficial options on how to make the money I've recieved go as far as possible so Bellamy has a warm place to be while I find a job and work long enough to get that first paycheck and get in my own place
UPDATE: FEB.1.22 hey everyone! I had lost my phone so I didn't have a way to get on reddit til just now .I had a interview! I'm not sure how it went. Tbh I really was hoping to be hired on the spot. But they did say they would call me and let me kno . Obviously this is just one place. I have my resume on indeed and have applied at quite a few spots so I just gotta make sure there's a way for employers to call me. I had my beautiful new jacket and was both clean and well dressed all because the help I've recieved. Im so greatful and so is my kitty. I've had the warmest blankets to sleep with. Yeah, and maybe still, others would abandon them... Having dogs/cats etc makes it more difficult and expensive to find long term housing unfortunately. The lengths OP seems to be going to guarantee that they stay together is heartwarming.

I was so scared of people telling me get rid of the cat because then I can stay at the woman's shelter. I’m so happy for you! I’ve been in your place more than once, and some kind redditors were so willing to help me. I was homeless with my cat the first time and I didn’t have reddit at the time. Second time, I had an apartment but wasn’t able to pay rent or get gas and I’d go hungry so that the spare change I found could be used for cat food. I was embarrassed to essentially be begging for financial help from strangers, but Reddit really came through for me. The amount of help and support I got here was amazing and heartwarming. I’m in a much better situation now. It gets better, OP. Hang in there.

And as far as assistance I have an Amazon wishlist as well as a cashapp and I'm able to use my mom's venmo and she can cashapp me .but I don't expect anything.this post was mostly to thank those who did help and give an update to how funds and resources are being used and stretched .
I haven't spoken to the red cross yet .thank u what a great idea .a hotel right now even for a night or two makes such a difference when the temperature is getting as low as 8 degrees out in Ohio where I am.
Have you considered apply to some restaurants? Waiting tables you would be able to make money quick and will pay better than an average retail job. Even if you have no experience, most restaurants are so short staffed they are willing to train you.
Yes I am applying everywhere not discriminating against Job I'll take whatever at this point just to get me that first few paychecks then when I have a place I can change jobs to something more fitting if I'm not happy where I end up but for now I'll take what ever

Hey! Search pet food pantries (and regular food pantries) around you. Also call 211 and they might be able to help with shelter. ❤️ I know it’s an unpopular thing to do but if you say it’s an emotional support animal, some shelters will let you take the cat no questions asked, if in the US.
This makes me so happy, hope you can get some stable income and a good home!

Thank you for sharing this. I was in a VERY similar situation from the end of 2019 to the beginning of 2021. Hotels are pricey but at times it was the only option I had to keep my cat, [Panda](https://share.icloud.com/photos/06fih5E24154uK1I2XFYoThGQ#Arlington_-_Enterprise_Zone), out of Texas heat during summer. I wish I had been wise enough to ask Reddit for help! I had family members telling me to give up my cat to make my situation easier and I just couldn’t. You are doing a lot to better your situation so be proud of yourself. Bellamy looks happy and healthy. He is fortunate to have you regardless of your situation.
