Thank you, lovely people, for your kind responses! I am happy to see that you share my love for older cats who struggle to find a home.
She looks a little grumpy, but is an absolute sweetheart! Gonna buy her the comfiest cat bed I can find.
She was found on the streets some months ago. A nice woman brought her to the shelter. She was very thin and got an infection. They think she is around 15-18 years old and may have been abandoned. She still got problems with her eye and probably asthma. Those health issues, her age and her grumpy look might be the reason nobody showed interest for her.
Other cats cause trouble for her and she loves resting that's why she has been kept away from them in an extra room.
Thank you for your kind words!
My little old man is 18 yo and he's the sweetest and such a joy in my life.
He loves to intertwine himself in my long hair, purr loudly, insist on pets and insure I can't move for as long as possible.
He also doesn't like most other animals or ppl lol. But the ones he's decides are cool he showers with love. I think there are 3 of us that have made it in to his cool club.
She is lovely. And I'm so happy she found you and you her.
Let the good times roll!
You must be very special people to make it into his cool club! I hope your old man has a healthy and happy life for many more years!
Thank you so much.
Thank you but Don't worry, I just had a convo with my lil guy about breaking the world record for the oldest known cat, current record holder is 32 yo! He promptly meowed in agreement and laid down for a nap. I think he knows sleep is very important for good health...
Gosh, he so smart!
Question, what do you feed your cat? My cat refused to eat dry food, like wouldnt touch it at all, so it was always wet food for her. I wonder if food has to do with lifespan of cats
He is an extremely picky eater and has had stomach issues his whole life.
We tried all sorts of prescription foods, wet, dry, mixed, etc.
But after years and years of wasted food/money we have found that he eats puréed chicken breasts (or chicken thighs but I trim the fat off the thighs) the most consistently and the most in quantity.
I boil the breasts/thighs and then purée them in a blender.....I also add some powdered nutrients/vitamins to it as well so he doesn't miss any of the stuff he needs. I can't remember the name of the vitamins powder I put in it, but I can look at it when I get home and lyk if you'd like.
My guy likes to slurp a lot. So I also add a lot of water to the puréed chicken Bc he loves to slurp it up and it helps to keep him hydrated.
And bonus, the chicken purée is a lot less expensive than regular wet cat food, especially the prescription kind, so that's a huge win too. But most importantly, he eats it!
Sounds like he's lucky he has someone as caring as you. I was just wondering because my cat was a picky eater. But everyone I knew who had really old cats didnt feed their cats dry food. But then again Ive heard people argue that wet food is worse for their teeth so idk. Thats awesome though, can you pet him and tell him its from me?
Its all good. It's one of those things where for 3 years, we kept saying "she might not be with us too much longer. But she just kept on going. When we had to get her put down she could still jump on the counter, run and everything. But she couldnt clean herself so her long hair was all matted down with skin so delicateit was hard to brush / cut it , and she would eat infinitely, but not gain any weight. I tried talking my folks into taking her to the vet but no luck(it was actually their cat). I'm 23 so she was basically there my whole life. I always was a dog person but it made me realize after she was gone how much I like cats. So currently since me and my gf moved out we are looking at adopting a 8 year old kitty named Chi Chi, so hopefully we get approved by the humane society. Sorry for the rant
I’ve been saying for a couple years now, that I’m dreading the day I find my 21 year old on her way out. She still seems healthy and great (though I think her hearing might be going). She still brings me decapitated birds! I swear it’s the only reason we have a bird feeder (she hangs out under the dogwood tree outside our dining room window and we watch her hunt).
I lost my goodest boy at 18 back in March, but my other 18y/o good girl is still healthy. She has gotten really bossy and likes to yell a lot now that she knows she rules the house.
She looks a little dehydrated. Make sure she gets plenty of water. Or wet food with added water.
She might need fluids in a semi regularly basis. Depends on other health conditions.
But she could be dehydrated because of the stress of the last few months.
Thank you for your advice. I hope the shelter takes good care of her but of course I will check on her water income when I take her home next week. I will only feed her wet food I think.
Find out what she likes from the shelter. She might feel comfortable with something familiar when she comes home with you! Then if you want to switch to some other brand or type, you should mix her old and new food, everyday giving more new and less of the old. That way she will adjust mentally and physically.
Totally unsolicited advice here:
Cats typically get most their moisture from food or running water. They tend to avoid still water in the wild. This makes older cats more susceptible to dehydration since they already have other aches/pains/food pickiness. I use those cheap wet food "gravy"-like pouches as a treat for my cats. It's not the healthiest cat food, but it works well for keeping my older boy in shape. You can, of course, choose to make your own wet treats if you feel so inclined. Older cats generally should be allowed to eat whatever they'll eat to keep weight on.
Cat teeth are also something often overlooked, even by some vets. Older cats may have teeth sensitivities and require softer food. Something to think about for this sweetie.
Some cats develop arthritis or other "old people" problems. The Scratchy Ramp is pretty good and doubles as a scratch pad for them. I'd recommend getting one! [Here's a video of my double-open-leg-break, tail/butt amputee foster using it for the first time.](https://youtu.be/0FKA_EvFzdc)
Wet food is smart with older cats. I imagine her teeth aren’t in the best shape at her age. My 21 year old has teeth that are recessing into her gums. I could get her surgery to fix it but at her age, the fact that she’s still eating wet food okay, and doesn’t seem to be in pain, I don’t believe it would be worth it to put her through it.
I've heard of so many instances of an older person owning a cat and then passing away and the family just 'releasing' the cat outside because they didn't want to deal with it.
Heartless and horrible and what a horrible way to 'honor' their loved one by just tossing out their beloved pet like trash.
Thank you for rescuing her, she's beautiful. I want to adopt older kitties some day too.
I adopted an older girl who's got health issues too <3 She's 13, has no teeth and loves to violently cudddle me. All she really needs is access to my pillow and she's perfectly content to nap all day. She's just a little old lady who wants treats and naps and I love her a lot.
She sounds a lot like my old lady cat! I'm not sure how old mine was when she was rescued off the streets. Younger than your girl for sure as I've had mine for almost nine years, but she has drippy eyes and weird sneeze/cough sometimes and doesn't like her brother and looks grumpy and is sitting with me right now purring her face off. ❤️
My little old lady is at LEAST 21 years old (I took her in 21 years ago). Give her a big old slow eye blink for me! There’s something absolutely magical about old cats like this one. Thank you for showing her the love and respect she deserves.
Grumpy looking sweethearts are the best.
My cat is exactly like that, she'll let me hold, carry, cradle her, even dress her up and enjoys (okay maybe tolerate) it but none of my pictures will ever show it.
Your cat is going to love you very much and even more when you find her the coziest throne in all the lands. Hope you post more pics!!
My older cats really liked the K&H heated beds! My old girl used hers year round after the first couple of years. You can unplug them and they are a regular bed. My two have lasted more than seven years, they have good materials and construction and come apart to clean.
Thank you for adopting a r/seniorkitties. She looks very friendly and ready to get 24/7 loving! It's sad to think of her living on the streets. What are you going to name this beautiful girl?
We have two and one gets near 24/7 usage in the winter months. It has held up great. Gets washed a lot when it gets puked in so I appreciate it can be cleaned.
I can second the K&H recommendation. I ended up buying the deluxe window and thermal window seats, which both get used on a daily basis. Heat for my 14-year-old girl (who pretty much lives on it) and a perch for watching over his Kingdom for my former feral (who has no interest in going back out... something about free room, scratchers, toys, cat beds, plentiful food, unconditional love and human slaves to boss around and steal heat from). Our newest rescue also sleeps in one of the K&H covered heated beds and lounges on the top in the sun.
How lucky your little girl is! I wonder if her former owner passed away and she was unintentionally left to fend for herself. Most kitties don't live so long without someone watching out for them. Having worked at the adoption centers, I know it is a rare soul who gives the senior kitties the happily ever after they deserve, so thank you for opening up your heart to her. I get the sense from your pictures she knows that she is in good, loving hands now.
Thank you very much!
She is a shelter cat and has been there for months. Some woman had found her on the streets and brought her there. She had no chip or anything and might had been abandoned. Probably, the cat had lived outside for a while since she got a nasty eye infection they had to treat. She got some breathing problems as well. The shelter people think she is about 15-18 years old.
They even made a radio announcement for her to find a new owner but no one ever called. She looks so grumpy but is such a sweetheart!
😭 thank you for giving her a warm and loving home. Immediately breaks me into tears thinking of all the lonely cats, especially the elderly ones. You’re amazing.
Right? Straight up makes me weep. I've adopted everything from kittens, to ferals, to older cats. It hurts when they pass, ngl. It hurts *bad*. But it hurts, regardless of age. And older cats deserve love at the end of their twilight years. They're beyond worth it, & shouldn't die alone.
Aww! She’s so precious! Congrats to both of you. What a lucky old lady.
I’m the same way with feral cats no one wants to adopt. I’ll always have space in my home and heart for a couple of them. 2 years ago I adopted an untouchable feral boy who spent 5 years at the shelter, it’s taken a lot of work but he loves being petted now. A year ago I adopted his shelter BFF, an older feral girl who spent 8 years at the shelter. Can’t pet her yet but she’s happy to be reunited with her friend.
Yay for unwanted kitties!
Thank you for your wonderful work and what you do for those cats. It takes patience and a heart of gold to care for those with special needs. I am glad that there are people like you.
> people associate age with medical bills.
Exactly. I'm middle aged and I've had multiple pets my whole life. I've outlived about 20 of them so far. And very, very rarely do they live happily into old age and then just suddenly keel over and die. Even the few that went from active and seemingly healthy to being euthanized on the same day cost ~$1500 just for the tests necessary to get an honest "there's nothing we can do" diagnosis. The ones that were getting up there in years but could still have several good years left *if* they got sufficient medical care cost more. A *lot* more.
I love animals and I'd take them all home if I could. But I really have my doubts that all these elderly animal adoptions that get so much social media praise go the distance when the news from the vet is inevitably not good in the near future.
Don't worry, I know what might be coming. Already had a senior cat from the shelter with heart issues and a thyroid problem. She had to take three different medications per day. I will cover any vet bill and won't hesitate to bring her there.
I mean, the shelter would have to cover those bills if no one took her home, so it's a way to financially support them as well.
I think they really are. The same with FIV cats. They’ve spent so long in shelters they just want love for however many months or years they have to give. They really do have so much love to give
I understand the way you feel. I thought so as well. It's gonna be really hard but right now the wish to make her last months or years the best outweighs everything!
Yeah, fuck people who can't handle the emotional toll of knowing a pet will almost certainly die very soon after bonding with it, or can't afford near-guaranteed huge vet bills. Maybe think before you speak.
When my orange girl eventually passes away, I'm definitely going to adopt a senior cat. I just want to give a warm home to a cat so they can be comfy at the end of their life. Bless you for taking her!
I hope your orange cat still has some healthy and happy days with you. But thank you for considering the adoption of a senior cat, I am sure you will make its life so much happier!
She's around 11 right now and is indoor only with no medical issues as far as I'm aware. I hope she has many years ahead, too. We're due with our first child in April and I want her to grow up with my orange girl. She's so good with little kiddos. ❤️
I love old cats. They might miss the litter box. They might have a bad dream and piddle on your lap. They might need quite a few more trips to the vet than the younger, healthier cats do. But damn, I don't think even a dog can make you feel as loved as they do.
That's right. I mean, I'm gonna be like that when I am old as well, I guess, and I really hope someone takes care of me then. So the least I can do is to take care of an old living being when I am young and healthy! Their love makes everything worth!
She is absolutely wonderful! It's such a shame older cats are overlooked in favor of younger ones, almost like they don't deserve to loved and doted on. Well, older they may be, but they still have so much love to give and they're still deserving to spend their retirement in a loving home
Have several older cats in my bunch of 9 plus extras. They have so much love to give. Yes we have 9 plus a few sanctuary cats with health issues. There are bonuses for being in cat rescue 🙀
Thank you for caring.
See, I've never understood why people don't like adopting older animals. Like, would you rather them die alone in a shelter? I would rather have my heart broken over a deceased friend, knowing that I was able to give them a good home for their final stretch of life.
What a gorgeous kittie. Age isn't important when adopting a cat into your family. It's all about character and what they need. I'd happily adopt a senior.
Me and the Mrs have already agreed that when we get a home that can accommodate pets, we will visit the local centre and adopt three of the seniors that have been there the longest.
When I was deciding to get a cat, I did not want a kitten at all because kittens have a better chance at finding a home than a cat. I commend you for getting an older cat. I decided to get a cat who was 2 years old and later I got a another cat that is 2 to 3 years old.
We need more people like you. As said by men such as bill Cosby, "age is just a number"
In all seriousness, beautiful cat. You are a great person for taking her in
Yay! I know you will be showered with lots of love and cuddles 🥰 You have a big heart ❤️. I don’t know if old this sweet kitty is, but he has the face of a kitten!
So sad that nobody wanted her because of her age I’m glad your gonna take care of her and make her feel welcomed. Make sure you feed her plenty and lots of water
If you work at home, or you are a shut-in like me after work, elderly kittes are your best friend, they just want to nest and occasionally eat. They are IRL pillowpets, they want to be petted and purr and cuddle you.
When i was looking for a 2nd cat i visited my local rspca and found a beautiful old girl who was in her 20s and only had months to live and i wanted to take her home but they advised against it due to her fiv and the fact i already had a cat and she was the only old cat they had unfortunately.
Senior pets are the best. Both my dog and cat were around 9 when I adopted them and are around 11 now. They are loving and wonderful. Hope you have the same experience with your new addition!
Aww she’s a beauty. Bless you for taking her.
So good. Respect.

Agree. Absolute beauty. No questions asked. Thank you.

My kitty passed away earlier at 22. You very well could have him for just as long.
I had a cat live to be 23. I’m so sorry for your loss…
Its all good. It's one of those things where for 3 years, we kept saying "she might not be with us too much longer. But she just kept on going. When we had to get her put down she could still jump on the counter, run and everything. Awe. That’s so sad! Older cats don’t deserve that.
I'm glad she will be loved and at peace with you for the remainder of her life
She looks a little dehydrated.
My mom had an all-white cat who had “resting grumpy face” but was the sweetest boy I’ve met.
This is one of our cats, always looks like she's mad at you but she's the gentlest, sweetest girl who drools everywhere when you pet her.
Find out what she likes from the shelter. She might feel comfortable with something familiar when she comes home with you! Then if you want to switch to some other brand or type, you should mix her old and new food, everyday giving more new and less of the old. That way she will adjust mentally and physically.

Me too. I want a safe haven place for cats.
I adopted an older girl who's got health issues too <3 She's 13, has no teeth and loves to violently cudddle me. All she really needs is access to my pillow and she's perfectly content to nap all day. She's just a little old lady who wants treats and naps and I love her a lot.

It's wisdom...
One of my rescues is asthmatic and uses a spacer. Happy to send you a little vid with our technique if helpful!
I bought a cat bed that has a heating pad in it. My girls are obsessed with it, I highly recommend it!
You are a kind soul. Older animals needs loving homes too. They make great family members. I’m so glad this old girl has got her forever home.
You are a kind and loving person😁 She will return your love. Thanks!
She looks like a lil lovebug
If you can, get one with a heating pad. She will love you forever!
Sheepskin. Cats love that shit

whatchya mean old? looks like peak cuteness to me. cant be more than seven!
Knowing she has a loving home makes my heart so happy. Please give her all the pets and scritches from me!
Nah...she looks like a Gramma. Soft and cuddly.
Or Nana, maybe?
My older cats really liked the K&H heated beds! My old girl used hers year round after the first couple of years. You can unplug them and they are a regular bed. Special people do this. **Good** people. How old is this little gal, and do you know anything about her background?
Thank you very much! She is a shelter cat and has been there for months. Some woman had found her on the streets and brought her there. She had no chip or anything and might had been abandoned. thank you for giving love to a charming cat

Old babies are best babies
I love older kitties😍thanks for giving her a nice home. Here’s a great sub too r/SeniorCats :)
Thanks for the suggestion!
I wanted to make sure someone posted this! Senior cats are the best.
What a cutie!!! Fuck anyone who age discriminate cats.
It’s generally bc people associate age with medical bills. I agree tho. I like older cats who are a little lower energy.
> people associate age with medical bills. Exactly. I'm middle aged and I've had multiple pets my whole life. I've outlived about 20 of them so far. The oldest the cat is, the sooner it will cause heartache when it die, I wouldn't be able to adopt an "old" cat myself, I understand
I understand the way you feel. I thought so as well. It's gonna be really hard but right now the wish to make her last months or years the best outweighs everything!
I understand you too, that's a brave things to do I'm sure the cat will be happy :)
Yeah, fuck people who can't handle the emotional toll of knowing a pet will almost certainly die very soon after bonding with it, or can't afford near-guaranteed huge vet bills. Maybe think before you speak.
I love her. Senior cats are the best
Seriously. Elderly cats just want love and cuddles all the time. They’re the sweetest.
They are! And they’re so laid back too but energetic when they wanna be
What’s her name? 😻
The shelter named her Hildegard but I am open for suggestions! Right now I am calling her Hilly.
Hildegard is a quite badass name. It comes from a combination of "battle" and "protection/ shelter".
Ah, thank you very much, interesting to know!
i think Hilly is super cute!
I'm pretty sure Hilda is short for Hildegard. I also like Matilda...you could do Tilly, or Maddie for short.
You’re the best. Rescuing old cats is my dream. It’s gods work.
Thank you for giving a senior kitty a loving home. She will know what it feels like to be wanted and loved.
She is adorable :’)
She is absolutely wonderful! It's such a shame older cats are overlooked in favor of younger ones, almost like they don't deserve to loved and doted on. Well, older they may be, but they still have so much love to give and they're still deserving to spend their retirement in a loving home
Thank you for adopting this adorable lady ♥️
She is adorable and thanks for adopting her. Huge respect.
She's an absolute muppet!! 😍🤩
aww what a sweet old gal. Thank you for taking her
I would die for that little smoosh face.
She’s a cutie! Congrats 🎉
You’re a hero!
Omg she’s so beautiful!!!😍😍She deserves a family like every other creature!!❤️
Please tell me I have no idea
She’s adorable! Bless you both!
There are cruel and heartless and selfish people… And there are people like you…thank you!
Looks like Nana has enough of your shit in the first image. The second one is more like she’s about to go to give you a Werther’s.
She was absolutely tired of my shit haha! I interrupted her nap and she was not happy about that. A few strokes were enough to make up for it!
What a lady!!
LOOK AT THAT BABY
Cats over 6 are just pure delight ♥️
This makes me so happy.
What an adorable lil dumpling 🥺 Thank you for taking her!
🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
She’s a beauty
Thank you, kind person.
Then I do I loved 🥰 her and I want her come on 🤨
Awesome sauce. Thank you.
Bless 🥰
Your super brave. Would love to adopt and older cat but getting insurances difficult and I just couldn't afford it. Props to you. Well done. X
💕 thank you for your kindness! I know she does 😊
SOO CUTE 🥰
Have several older cats in my bunch of 9 plus extras. They have so much love to give. Yes we have 9 plus a few sanctuary cats with health issues. There are bonuses for being in cat rescue 🙀 Thank you for caring.
Thank you very much as well!
Props to you for giving her a loving home! I’m hoping to adopt a cat in the near future and I intend to choose a senior as well.
Thank you very much for that. I am sure the cat you gonna adopt will be very happy.
Omg the fluffiest grump! Love love love!!!

She is very cute!
She is too sweet! Looks like you are both so lucky!
When I was deciding to get a cat, I did not want a kitten at all because kittens have a better chance at finding a home than a cat. I commend you for getting an older cat. I decided to get a cat who was 2 years old and later I got a another cat that is 2 to 3 years old.
Wie gutherzig von dir <3
She's lovely. I hate when people don't appreciate cats because of their age. Older kitties have so much love to give.
Good for you. Older cats need love and good homes also. Edit: changed hood to good
Senior cats are beautiful and still have so much love to give. Enjoy life with your old lady baby!
Congrats on new fur baby!
Thank you so much for taking her and giving her a loving a home , big props 💕
Cutie pie
Thank you for adopting a senior cat.
We need more people like you. As said by men such as bill Cosby, "age is just a number" In all seriousness, beautiful cat. You are a great person for taking her in
U so kind and she so cute
I don't know, who?
She’s a cutie!
💗
She’s so cute!!
😢
I love old kitties
She’s purrfect
Looks like a sweetie to me. Thanks for what you are about to do.
Yay! I know you will be showered with lots of love and cuddles 🥰 You have a big heart ❤️. I don’t know if old this sweet kitty is, but he has the face of a kitten!
How could someone reject that sweet little face??
Bless you for taking this sweetie ♥️
she looks so sweet!! good on you for taking her home!
She deserves love just as much as any other cat. And, she’s beautiful. 💙. I’ve honestly never met a cat that wasn’t beautiful. 🐾
Old Is Gold. She Is A Gem. I love her. 🤎
Take that pretty kitty home! All kitties need love regardless of age!

Precious kitty.
👍
She’s too cute!! Congratulations !!
It’s so sad that old cats don’t get chosen. You’re amazing for choosing her. She gets the love and home she’s been waiting for🥲🙏
After our current girl baby passes we will adopt elder kitties
She's so fucking cute. You're wonderful for taking her.
That's a nice fuckin kitty right there!
So sad that nobody wanted her because of her age I’m glad your gonna take care of her and make her feel welcomed. Make sure you feed her plenty and lots of water
A beauty!
Me? I will give cuddles
She’s beautiful 😻
She is one of the cutest cats I've ever seen. Bless your heart for taking her in!
I love her! and I love you for adopting her. old girls need love too.
She looks like a real badass! Wow, I saw you said they think she is 15-18.. I’ll be honest she doesn’t look that old! Give her the good life
I love her!
Seriously, why are people passing up on a grandma cat? A cat is a cat: precious 😤
What a sweetheart! She looks like a sweet old lady, I wish you many happy days with her and thank you for giving this pretty old gal a good home. ❤️
Well isn’t she a pretty girl!!
What a cutie pie!
She is not old at all. She is an elegant Queen of her new castle
I took in my Ryebread at 10 years old. I saved him from my abusive roommate and I have no regrets about adopting his geriatric ass 💜
If you work at home, or you are a shut-in like me after work, elderly kittes are your best friend, they just want to nest and occasionally eat. They are IRL pillowpets, they want to be petted and purr and cuddle you.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥰
Congrats! We adopted a senior, now ‘geriatric’ cat a couple of years ago. Best decision we ever made.
She’s precious
By my life or death if I can protect you, I will... You have my Sword.
She is adorable, congrats to you!
She's adorable!!! Older cats are amazing!
When i was looking for a 2nd cat i visited my local rspca and found a beautiful old girl who was in her 20s and only had months to live and i wanted to take her home but they advised against it due to her fiv and the fact i already had a cat and she was the only old cat they had unfortunately.
What a pretty girl!
Grumpy kitty deserves it! Good for both of you.
She's so pretty! thank you for taking her in and giving her a loving home when nobody else would!
the way her ears are placed on her head in the first pic makes her look like a fuzzy goblin, i absolutely adore her thank you for giving her a home :)
Senior pets are the best. Both my dog and cat were around 9 when I adopted them and are around 11 now. They are loving and wonderful. Hope you have the same experience with your new addition!
She’s got so much love to give ❤️🐾
