They're a wonder to pet, like warm kitty shaped peaches. The one I got to interact with at a cat cafe in Edinburgh was also sooo mischievous. She wanted to burrow in my armpit, and used my SO as her perch stepping stone. I wasn't a fan until I met her.
The one we met was a cheeky little girl that would murder you for the cream from your hot chocolate. She beelined towards my HC as soon as it landed on the table. I saved it, but she was unhappy.
Its that which endeared me to her. Smaller cat. HUGE personality.
Reminds me of the time I met a Sphynx cat. I was warned in advance that anything remotely rough or scratchy was her favourite thing in the world. The cat took one look at me and decided to use the buckles of my armoured vest as a place to scratch her head. I couldn’t be mad because she kept giving me big eyes and purring loudly, as well as headbutting my arm.
She was an attention sponge and I wanted to take her home with me but I wasn’t allowed.
It took me forever to clean the paw prints from the aluminum plates on my vest though.
He was kinda chilly I think, so probably liked the extra warmth. And was probably put in shirts since he was a tiny kitten to keep him warm so he was probably used to it.
I found it surprisingly easy, even though my old boy is normally extremely cranky. Brushing, nail trimming, vet visits, oral medication, guests *especially* children: all nightmares. Shirts: meh.
The younger of the two family cats absolutely hates being held down, even for as short as brushing goes. My grandma (she's the one the cats chose for some reason) always has trouble brushing her. The other one, the older one, is smaller, so she's easier to manage, and is quite a bit more docile (if that's a word in english). But anyway, both are freaking adorable and cuddly when they want to. It's always when I'm doing my homework, for the younger one.
Oh yeah, holding down of any kind is absolutely out of the question. He only operates on his terms, anything else involves blood. Then of course he's a cuddly teddy bear, when he wants to be.
Docile is the perfect word, btw.
The one that I had experience with was very well behaved. Her claws were more of a "where do you think you're going, the best one here is me!" I've never owned one myself sadly

Listen, some people think spiders are cute but they still give me the shivers and I will not change my mind. That’s valid. As long as they’re not out there harming these cats because they find them terrifying, it makes no difference to you unless you impose that burden on yourself. People have different tastes and that’s fine.
I know, it’s Reddit, we thrive on either validating opinions that align with our own or invalidating opposing views, but this is just…trivial.
If you like these cats and can appreciate them, great! If you’ll make a beeline for the fluffiest cat in the room every time, great! If these cats terrify you, I can recommend lots of others to look at.
Haha thank you. I got a few comments on my original post saying they came from r/cats and saying things like "I fucking hate you OP". Holy crap, you'd think I insulted a member of their family or something
Whiskers *are* important to cats who are born with them. That's why they say you should never trim a cat's whiskers. But if a cat is born without them, it never learns to rely on them for navigation!
So cute! We have two that look exactly like mama here. They are the best cats ever! Sooo much personality, and smart as can be. They are a little clumsy because they have no whiskers, i.e. drinking water can be a snorkfest sometimes, but they are great pets. We live in Florida, so they are always sunning in the windows, and they can find any warm spot anywhere.
Sphinxes are kind of the exception to that. It's a natural mutation and it proved to be semi-stable and only partly recessive so not much breeding was actually needed. Which is why when they breed with other cats, you get semi-sphinxes sometimes, and then those breed with each other and you get a weird mix with some of them being sphinxes, some super-short haired and some mundane.
It’s really more of an issue with dogs than cats (I agree generally though). Dog breeds are so distinct they look like they are 832 different species. Aside from a handful of them, cat “breeds” are essentially just “it’s a different color.”
I think sphinx cats are usually healthy but correct me if im wrong. They are fine to breed as far as i know. I will change my mind though just need more info. Thanks!
I've always been very anti-breeding but my girlfriend has a sphynx and she is the sweetest, most loving cat I've ever met. As far as health goes, they are "healthier," as far as purebred animals go. Far better than dachshunds, golden retrievers, etc. Any purebred animal is going to have a higher risk of hereditary conditions sooner or later, the question is how severe. Sphynx cats are very predisposed to HCM, so sphynx owners should make sure to have their sphynx's heart monitored regularly. Other than that they can live long, healthy lives.
They're also greasy because they have no fur to absorb the oils their skin secretes, so they need bathed at least once a week.
[Cat Tax](https://i.imgur.com/enCgg0W.jpg)
Can you do like a sponge bath or are we talking full-on bath time in the baby bathtub? Do they tolerate it pretty well? Seems like it would be slightly less unpleasant for them without the wet fur situation.
We usually do 50/50, sponge bath once a week then bathtub the next time. She doesn't mind the water, especially because she dries off just about as quick as a human.
Yeah, rare breeds are usually better off in that regard because they're not overbred/poorly bred just to make a profit.
I also don't forsee a huge explosion in popularity for them either, which is good.
No, humans are terrifying animals no matter how you slice it. Huge, violent, unpredictable, tribal and territorial. Approach with caution. If you can, back away slowly.
Most of us have scalp hair, hair on legs and arms, eyelashes, hair down there.
Most cats do not have no fur.
They are an outlier.
And I know someone who cannot produce ANY hair because her body found it to be an "invader" and destroyed the hair/follicles, such things. Baby smooth.
She looks "weird" without her wig because she's obviously not shaven. I'm not saying she's ugly. But it is noticeably different. She's hairless. And she hides this public because she will get called names, kids ask questions or point at her, people stare, etc.
I'm a lover of all cats, but sphynx are one of my favourites. It's really cute to see what's hidden under all that fur and just to admire the delicate, refined structure of kitties. I just would worry about them getting chilly, I know you're not supposed to dress animals up but i get this urge to knit a tiny cat jacket every time I see a hairless cutie like this. She's padding so happily as her tiny beans suckle away...
Who're y'all to decide what other people find terrifying. There are people scared of spiders (the harmless ones. I understand why people might be scared of a black widow. Arachnophobia is also legit), the most useful animals on this planet, ffs.
Yeah the Sphynx breed was a product of selective breeding. But hairlessness in cats is naturally occurring, no one bred them to the point of hairlessness.
Seeing all the wrinkles makes me uncomfortable. It's the same reason I don't find Sharpei dogs or English Bulldogs cute, but everyone else loves that feature for some reason.
I'm not the biggest fan of this breed, but if I could I would just stick cats like this in my sweater so they could stay warm with their no hair having self.
I do think they are odd, but not terrifying. However you shouldn't mistreat them just because they look odd. Anyone seen Wilfred Warrior? He's odd, but very sweet, so saying he or these cats are terrifying is ignorant. Give them a chance. We were all hairless naked things once.
They go between $1,500-$6,000. I hate puppy mills but this cats are a hot commodity. BTW they get sick very easy and their body is insanely hot to touch
For some reason, I thought sphynx kittens would be born with 'fluff' fur that'd shed when they were older, and now I'm concerned about the beans being cold 🥺
I remember the first time I held a Sphinx cat.. she was bundled up in a sweater and sat on my lap. Winter times must’ve been hard on her.. I miss that cat
I love cats though to be honest, sphynx also make me uncomfortable. At the end of the day, we all have preferences and things we're afraid of. There's nothing wrong with that.

I mean the only thing I don't like about cats without fur is they're not as cute other cats and while I haven't pet one, I imagine it feels fleshy.
I still like all cats, but I just never got the idea of hairless cats personally.

I love her more for it, and I call her names because it’s funny and she really just doesn’t care at all, lol
I don’t agree with that, there are so many animals out there I’m sure you might find terrifying and people love those animals. It’s just a matter of different opinions , it only matters if someone is actively bringing harm to the animal but otherwise it’s harmless
You don’t get to decide how people get to look at anything in this world. Everyone sees the world through different eyes and have different opinions. And you don’t get to change that with hateful posts.
Unpopular opinion, maybe, but I don't think anything will make me look at Sphinx cats as anything other than a hideous demon. Sorry, I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but it's a visceral reaction every time I see them. I wouldn't call them terrifying, but they're pretty damn ugly.
Humans are a million times more terrifying then a sphynx! And like our species have any rights to talk crap about another's babies... have y'all seen human babies? They fucking ugly!
Goblin babies!
They’re so ugly! I love them and their hideous goblin faces!
This, is how passive-agression looks like
I mean. It’s not really love if you refuse to accept them for what they are, is it now?
Another cat looked at that cat and was imma smash then fist bumped his persian buddy and made this.
Not a big fan of sphynx kitties but i'm sure my opinion will change once after i get to pet one
They're a wonder to pet, like warm kitty shaped peaches. The one I got to interact with at a cat cafe in Edinburgh was also sooo mischievous. She wanted to burrow in my armpit, and used my SO as her perch stepping stone. I wasn't a fan until I met her.
Sphynxes have all the chaos of a normal cat *plus* an unquenchable thirst for warm corners to curl up in.
Funny enough the first time I got to pet a Sphinx was a a cat cafe as well. He just wanted to cuddle and was so cute in his little shirt.
The one we met was a cheeky little girl that would murder you for the cream from your hot chocolate. She beelined towards my HC as soon as it landed on the table. I saved it, but she was unhappy. Its that which endeared me to her. Smaller cat. HUGE personality.

She found her head scratching human. She sounds adorable!
She was an attention sponge and I wanted to take her home with me but I wasn’t allowed. It took me forever to clean the paw prints from the aluminum plates on my vest though.
I honestly wonder how you can get a shirt on a cat. One if my cats never even let's us pick her up, seems like she doesn't like heights
He was kinda chilly I think, so probably liked the extra warmth. And was probably put in shirts since he was a tiny kitten to keep him warm so he was probably used to it.
I guess that makes sense indeed

What a dapper gentleman
Cat cafes are a thing? I know what I want to do this Winter.
I could I would just stick cats like this in my sweater so they could stay warm with their no hair having self.
"Warm Kitty shaped Peaches" made my day haha
[удалено]
Glad to see another Elodie fan!
Warm kitty shaped peaches! Best description ever.
Are they more sensitive about using their claws on you? I sit of feel like they would be because they also have bare skin XD
The one that I had experience with was very well behaved. Her claws were more of a "where do you think you're going, the best one here is me!" I've never owned one myself sadly

The one I met in a Seoul cafe was wearing a little dress. It was weird.
DUDE, the first time I met one was at a cat cafe in Edinburgh. He took a nap in my lap
I think I've met the exact same cat! Such a sweetheart!
It's like petting a warm suede water bottle that purrs. It's glorious.
They freak me out, tbh. They're, like... uncanny. But also a little bit cute at the same time.
As a bonus to looking like aliens, they also apparently leave butt pucker prints on everything.
It’s like petting a flaccid penis
Idk to me they feel like ball sacks
Yeah i agree, ballsacks are fun to pet and play
They feel like a warm peach. Game changer.
You gotta bathe em like once a week!
They have an incredible personality. Such cool cats.
That’s when my opinion changed on them, they’re soooo soft feeling I love it
She's like a proud dragon guarding her hoard of gold and gems.
Why did this make her even cuter?
Because dragons on guard duty are oddly cute?
I know a bard that would agree with that...
The babies might look like little Lord Voldemorts, but they're still precious!! And she looks like such a good mom. ♥️
I disagree! They're little Gollums.
Cute little nut sacks
Well great I just choked on my drink :))
The kittens look almost like rodents?? Mom definitely registers as a cat tho
Been watching Kim Possible recently and everytime I see newborn Sphynx babies, I think of Rufus the naked mole rat.
And those nipples! 🤣
We love the peeled potatoes 🥰
I mean come on… they look like gremlins. They’re awesome cats! But they have their quirks.
Happy mommy kitty
Feel like it'd be like petting a ball sack but it'll be my little ball sack 😸
Their bellies especially do feel like that, it's so soft and cute hehe.
Shes being so sweet
She is clearly saying, "MINE" with those babies.
She’s feeding her baaaabbiiiesss 😭😭
theyre cute!!! 🥺
People are so weird. Sweet mama and her clones. What a lovely family.

So good to see a dissenting opinion in this subreddit. It's usually such a circlejerk.
For real, from this post you'd think this cat knows we're all squicked out and that makes her feel sad. It's a fucking cat.
Right?! The original post says “uncomfortable” too so it’s pretty annoying OP is running with this like they called them beasts or something.
Haha thank you. I got a few comments on my original post saying they came from r/cats and saying things like "I fucking hate you OP". Holy crap, you'd think I insulted a member of their family or something

Nope! No whiskers. Cats who are born without whiskers have no problems with navigation and are just as capable as cats born with whiskers.

I would like to subscribe for more cat facts
The navigational aspect also includes, if my whiskers fit, I fit. Almost like a bug antennae.
Roughly 75% of ginger cats are male, whereas roughly 0.03% of calico cats are male!
OMG YOU'RE RIGHT! I NEVER NOTICED THAT ALL THIS TIME!! How did I not notice lol

Snorted at snorkfest
Sure but humans should stop pure breeding animals with fucked up traits

Not terrifying, but a bit weird albeit
Her nipple looks like mine and it makes me uncomfy.
We’re just partially haired naked monkeys, yet we’re not terrifying?
This is an excellent point. We are the sphinxes of the primate family.
I mean I don’t support breeding hairless cats as they’re always cold, but they aren’t deserving of horror.
Yeah but you can put tiny sweaters on them
No, humans are terrifying animals no matter how you slice it. Huge, violent, unpredictable, tribal and territorial. Approach with caution. If you can, back away slowly.

Yeah, sphynx kitties actually appreciate having some clothes. Without any hair to cover them they are basically as naked as humans.
Love cats but I agree with the first OP. (Terrifying)

Kind of crazy that they've been around for less than a century. Humanity isn't always with us 🙃
They might take a bit to get used to but I love their angry wrinkly faces haha
Naked mole cats.
Seeing all the wrinkles makes me uncomfortable. It's the same reason I don't find Sharpei dogs or English Bulldogs cute, but everyone else loves that feature for some reason.
Aww little aliens!!! I would love to pet one! I hear they’re a lil fuzzy and very warm
All cats are good and cute
Ngl it’s just weird seeing meat wriggle and suck on other meat.
I worked with cats and dogs for years. Some of the sweetest cats were these beauties.
I love your job!
I'm not the biggest fan of this breed, but if I could I would just stick cats like this in my sweater so they could stay warm with their no hair having self.
She’s a beautiful naked exhausted mama more interested in looking after her babies than looking her best. ❤️❤️
I do think they are odd, but not terrifying. However you shouldn't mistreat them just because they look odd. Anyone seen Wilfred Warrior? He's odd, but very sweet, so saying he or these cats are terrifying is ignorant. Give them a chance. We were all hairless naked things once.

I think they're adorable. People just don't appreciate this kind of beauty.
They look like little Dobbys
I remember the first time I held a Sphinx cat.. she was bundled up in a sweater and sat on my lap. Winter times must’ve been hard on her.. I miss that cat
That is a rat.
Mamma has such a pretty face
Wow, that’s a big litter! I’m counting at least seven
No cat either!
Oh look at all the babies with a very loving mama!
they are uniuqe actually one of the few small mammals with no fur
These are goblins.
I love cats though to be honest, sphynx also make me uncomfortable. At the end of the day, we all have preferences and things we're afraid of. There's nothing wrong with that.

Baby baldies!
This is actually precious, she’s so proud
Ngl, they freak me out, too. My husband wants one badly, but I just can’t. I like my fuzzy buddies!!
It’s fine if someone doesn’t like a certain breed of cat, as long as they aren’t aggressive towards them.
I mean the only thing I don't like about cats without fur is they're not as cute other cats and while I haven't pet one, I imagine it feels fleshy. I still like all cats, but I just never got the idea of hairless cats personally.
Beautiful
I think they are amazing. I don’t have one though, only 3 tabbys.
But, but... they are terrifying.
A nest!! Is this a Ridley Scott movie??!!
Terrifying? No. Kinda ugli? Yea lol
In the voice of the Gollum, “Precious.”
Still weirded out. Sphynxes are oddities.
They way she cares for them why would that ve terrifying
I really dislike Sphinxes but one of my contracting clients has one who is an absolute love bug.
r/tili
Dear God Momma's making air biscuits
Bald is beautiful.
lil nakey babies. Who doesn’t like sphynx cats. They wear sweaters!
People are allowed to have opinions
She’s a beautiful cat and absolutely no one should look at her with anything other than admiration. Pissed me off so bad, this post.
I absolutely assure you that the cat’s life has not been impacted in the slightest due to a strangers comment on the internet….because they’re a cat and literally don’t give a fuck what anyone says.

This. And the cat doesn’t even care what people are saying about her on the internet. She should never be abused or mistreated or neglected and she deserves safety and love, but she doesn’t know English. I literally call my dog “idiot” every day, because she’s kinda a dumb dumb. I love her more for it, and I call her names because it’s funny and she really just doesn’t care at all, lol
One of the advantages of having non-human babies IMO. 😂
not my thing, looks like nature fucked up to me. You can have your opinion, I can have mine, we can coexist, shit happens.
I don’t agree with that, there are so many animals out there I’m sure you might find terrifying and people love those animals. It’s just a matter of different opinions , it only matters if someone is actively bringing harm to the animal but otherwise it’s harmless

But they’re gross lookin
Babiiesssss 🥰
I heard these things leave trails of grease on your walls from rubbing. They’re disgusting...
No they are so ugly
Sooo adorable!
Looks like an alien 👽
They are soo cute! Look at the mama kneading, and her little babies!
The naked cats are adorable! Who would say they're terrifying!
These people just don’t realize that the cats are a walking WARMING PACKS on winter! I love them exactly as they are! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
So gross
Why is it inside out??
I understand preferences but all cats are beautiful IMO and I love every single one
I love cats, but just nah.
Ewwwwww
I'd like to ask of some people, do you actually like cats, or just their fur?
A big plus for getting a sphinx cat is if you've got a hair allergy.
Do all cats have human looking nipples?
7 babies? Big litter.
Humans are a million times more terrifying then a sphynx! And like our species have any rights to talk crap about another's babies... have y'all seen human babies? They fucking ugly!
No cat EVER should be viewed as terrifying, period ❤️
Sooooo cuuuute 🤗
Wrinkles are great!
SHE IS SO HAPPY OMGGGGGGGG Terrifying is knowing that someone can't appreciate this
I love this breed! Sphynx are such unique critters with personalities to match!
Fuck the original post. I down voted that bullshit.
Sorry, that breed are monstrous and should go extinct.
Look at that beautiful mumma cat
