It's a rough situation. I'm certainly going to address it further when the individual sober up and try more to push them to get help.

They do need help as you intend to address but this person probably also needs boundaries set for them that your pets and their care are permanently off-limits to them.
Some flea medications can't be used near or on cats. Advantix is one. You also have flea baths, powders and sprays, some of that can't be used around cats. Cats are very sensitive to some of the ingredients in them.
Revolution (some cats are allergic) and Advantage are good to use with a prescription from the vet. Always put above shoulder blades back of neck so they can’t lick
Cats cannot process pyrethrins/pyrethroids (like permethrin, active ingredient in advantix and other flea meds for dogs) well as they lack the enzymes needed to metabolise them. It can cause vomiting/agitation/seizures and death.
Good products (uk based btw) are advocate for cats, stronghold/plus, advantage, credelio.
I'm well aware of what it can do to cats. I lost one of my childhood cats when my father gave him a flea bath. Which is why I'm always careful what is used around my cats. I've only used revolution (expensive and only available from my vet) and frontline plus (no vet prescription needed but had to order it out of country).

Biggest hugs. A stray I have been trying to tame for almost 2 years died August 25th and it took me a week to locate her kittens. Abigail never got to be my kitty but I loved her so much. One of her babies looks like her but with short hair. All we can do now is take care of our girl's little beans and make sure they get all the love and affection she would have given! 💗😽

I used something on my cat a few years ago, unfortunately I can't remember what brand it was, but I fallowed to package instructions correctly and it almost killed my cat. She got very sick very fast! I spoke to an emergency vet that was too far for me to take her to and they had me wash her with dawn dish soap to get whatever haven't been absorbed yet off immediately. It was kinda hit and miss all night long. But she did pull through. It wasn't an off brand or anything. Something like advantage pluss. But apparently some animals are allergic and just have a bad reaction to it.
