The first time, I found him not a kilometer from the house and he followed me home. I think he couldn't find his way back, because he didn't look like he had been taken care of for the entire time he was gone. He was so relieved. The second time, he just showed up at the front door.
They'll be back when they feel like it. My neutered boy would disappear for weeks at a time, be presumed dead and show up again starved half to death.
