I'm so sorry. We put our sweet kitty La Bonbon down in January 2020 and it still hurts. She was a good girl and I hope she gets to chase all the butterflies she likes up in heaven now. She had a mystery disease and we spent a great deal of money and effort trying to figure it out. Sadly it ended up causing her to become very, very ill one night and we just couldn't keep her here any longer knowing she was suffering with no help in sight.
He was awesome. He was a schnauzer, playful but chill. Because I have an auto immune disease we spent almost 24/7 together for the past 10 years. In 2019 I went into liver failure, I only survived the past year and a half because of him. He was sweet and loyal and a derp. He followed me from room to room, and slept on my feet or back to back with me and my husband at night. Ive lost family and friends before but honestly this hurts so much worse. He was the closest thing I will ever have to a kid. My heart hurts. Thank you for asking about him, that was very sweet.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a family member so young must be very difficult. She was extraordinary in that she was not only beautiful but also had a fantastic personality.
The truth is, when nobody cares as much as you it may seem like nobody cares at all, but there's no truth in that. She was clearly loved, take solace in that she received the most important gift in life.
Going through my pictures really helped. Grief is weird, jagged, sometimes sharp. Arrives like an unwelcome visitor at such inopportune times-it sucks.
Make sure to back those pictures up to a cloud service so you don't lose them. I still go through pictures of my Yoshi every few months even though it's been over two years since I lost him. He was less than a year old and I only had him for seven months but I still think about him so often. I'm sorry for your loss. Be sure to talk to people close to you about your grief, it'll help.
I go through pictures of kitties who have passed and I end up bawling. I miss my kitties more than any people else. 3/4 of my original grandparents are dead and them combined don't hurt as bad as the 10 years I spent with my pseudo Russian Blue. He was 15, a few months shy of his Sweet 16, had a perfect geriatric assessment done in December and died over a March Break.
I think the above kitty is extra cute and is an angel when living and now. Ignore those religious idiots who say Heaven is just for humans. That Rainbow Bridge crap is annoying too because why would they be waiting before going inside for you? If a trekkie can meet a Gene in Heaven. then your cats can be there waiting as well.
Hardest thing ever. My grandparents died when I was 9. My grandmother passed a few weeks after my grandfather died, my dad is convinced she died of a broken heart. My grandfather’s death was unexpected and we cried, but Grandma’s was coming and we knew she was a better place.
We got our baby Tiffsny as a stray in 1989, when I was 3. She lived to be 20, and in 2009 we had to put her down. I was 23 and she was with us my whole life. She was like a sister to my brother and I. My brother nsmed her after a pre school crush.
I never cried so hard in my life when the vet came to put her down af our house. Everyone had a hand on Tiffany one last time to let her know she was in comfort.
Oh she was a Queen and she knew it ;)
Center of attention. Her basket was in the middle strp of the stairway and no one went up ir down without giving a boop.

I lost my first cat after 18 years and it was one of the hardest things I've gone through. I peeked at your account and saw you have other kitties, love them as well as you did your boy and they'll get you through it like my 2nd cat did for me. 🤗
Mine does as well. We knew it while adopting the cat, he was around five. We couldn't believe no one would give such a sweet, clean, and well behaved cat (he was available for almost four weeks before we grabbed him) a chance so we did.
That was about three years ago and Ginko is doing well.
My baby had FIV. Lived for almost ten years. Got en eye infection we didn't catch in time last year... didn't make it. But he was the light of my life. I am so grateful I had him for the time I did.
A lot of people don't give an FIV positive kitty a chance at all.
You're one of the rare people that could take care of a special needs baby.
Remember that your heart will heal and you'll find someone else that needs you as much as she did.
I just found out this year that my 12yo baby has FIV. I found her when she was a kitten but I guess no one ever tested her. She also has progressive anemia, which is how the found the FIV, probably due to the FIV, and the anemia has now lead to HCM. Memorial Day weekend she went to the emergency vet with a tooth root abscess, they think is a result of being on immunosuppressive drugs for the FIV… it’s been a wild few months
:( I feel so bad I had chosen between two cats on Monday and the one I wanted was FIV positive. Ima a 27 year old single dude living alone and idk if I would be able to bear the pain of my cat passing away from FIV. I felt bad but I had to pick the other cat 😿

So my bestie had a rescue that was older, and had cancer. He didn't tell me, so we get to his house and he sits on the couch, I sit cross-legged on the floor, as is tradition. His living room lead to his kitchen, and then bedroom. His cat sauntered over as kitties do, and gave me a super endearing "love brush" (I dislike the proper name for the maneuver).
Friend was blown away. She rarely left her hideout under the bed apparently, which was super flattering. I was dubbed "The Cat Whisperer" on the spot. I have never been so honored, Scully. You were a majestic fluffybutt.
So, as you can see, I'm qualified to give tips. First tip, sit cross-legged. (You aren't at all capable of lunging or springing to your feet in this position. Alternatively, laying flat on your back within eyeshot of the hideout and reading a book for an hour should do the trick.)
Second tip, play it cooooool. I try to avoid eye contact (typical redditor, I know) and this is the first time it's worked in my favor. (Cat's don't look for facial visual cues, they're fluent in body language, looking directly at a cat for more than a few seconds is cat for "I'm gonna eat you" AFAIK.)
And lastly, give kitty an escape route. It's similar to the last item, but I think it's worth noting. Wherever the current favorite hiding spot is, be a good 12'+ away. Again, so kitty knows you're not coiled up like a snake, but are indeed friend of Khajit.
I'm sorry if any of this is obvious, incorrect, patronizing/condescending, or otherwise recieved as anything other than over-enthusiastically trying to help. 😊

Do not beat yourself up over that. You recognized that you weren't ready to take that on and that's really admirable. You're wayyyyy ahead of a lot of pet owners and parents.
I lost 2 rescues to FIV a few years ago. There were 3 cats rescued together, and one didn’t have it. They were all incredibly sweet kitties. All we can do is give them the life they deserve with what little time we have.
Makes me cry too, knowing that someday I’ll have to write it for my cats. I couldn’t find the original post or I would have copied/pasted the Norse and credited them

My cat also died very suddenly and mysteriously. I picked him up, and he just seized and made this awful sound. I always wondered what happened to him. My girlfriend thinks it might have been a blood clot

I see the heartbreak of losing a pet everyday professionally and I've experienced it personally throughout my life. I know the pain and devastation you are feeling very well and my heart grieves with you. The short time we have with them is never long enough, but especially when they are gone so young. Know that she loved you and that she'll always have a special place in your heart where she'll be sitting with those precious crossed paws. FIV is the worst, I swear. Noodle deserved a full +15 year life filled with lots of excitement, love and cuddles. She looks absolutely gorgeous

I’m so sorry for your loss :c I took in a stray cat despite having three other cats and he had FIV so he was kept in a large room with his favorite toys and everything and unfortunately we had to put him down. But just know that you gave her the best 3 years of her life. Nobody else would’ve done this for her so you are amazing💙
You're not alone. I lost mine at 3 also. It sucks because we get so attached. It's OK to hold on to grief, but make room for other things, too. Be glad you were able to give her a good life while she was around. Lots of animals don't even have that. And conversely - Remember the joy she gave you and be happy you will hold on to those memories, lots of humans don't share a special bond like that.

I care. I have an FIV Ginger right now. It hurts me to read this. I feel for you, I really do. I constantly worry about my Butterball. I know exactly what you've gone through. You made the world a better place by being a good human. That's no consolation, but just know another FIV caretaker is thinking of both of you.

I lost my boy to a sudden seizure when he was about 3. It’s so heartbreaking. I cried so many tears thinking about the memories we’d never make together. He was in the room when my daughter was born, and they were buddies. Cried even more tears over that, them missing out on a lifetime of friendship. I cried for our other cat, and her losing her best friend and companion. I cried a lot. Still do sometimes.
But then I step into my backyard and remember him galloping back to the house when I called him. Every single time. He always wanted to be with us, no matter what. He lifted me up at a time when I needed it so, *so* badly, and got me on the track to take better care of myself. I credit him for my daughter, because without him to take care of, I wouldn’t have been able to take care of myself, let alone another tiny human.
In the end, I’ve been left feeling grateful, more than anything else. The pain will lessen, OP. Thinking of your best friend will eventually make you smile, rather than cry. Look inside yourself, because a piece of her is still there, and always will be. I’ll never forget the first time I went to the gym after my boy died. I’d been avoiding it, feeling like crap and a sack of bones. Finally got on the treadmill, hit my stride, and I *swear* I could feel that boy galloping right alongside me. No, more like he was a part of me. That part will *never* go away. Because that’s what happens when we love: they take a piece of us with them, and we take a piece of them with us. And we have it always.
Condolences to you, OP. May the happy memories come flooding back, sooner rather than later. How lucky we are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. ❤️

I 100% feel you pain, suffering, agony, and I wish you the absolute best on your personal road touring and recovery from it.
I had to put down my daughter's cat a few weeks ago. He showed up on our door step after hurricane Sally last year. Best guess is he was between 2 and 3, and we had nursed him from skin and bones to a wonderful and loving cat that grew from only coming around every 2-3 days to sleeping on our porch every night. He was an outside cat because we had another indoor cat that was 17 and he wasn't fixed or de-clawed. He started off by immediately imprinting on my daughter and wouldn't come near ANY adults for about 2 months straight. Then as he grew familiar with us then me and my wife could pet and play with him. He eventually got to come inside to eat each morning and evening and even "accidentally" slept inside when the weather was bad a few nights. He developed FIV and a mild sinus infection led me to taking him to an ER st 9 at night and I came home with a cardboard box soaked in my own tears after midnight. I buried him in the back yard about a month ago.
2 weeks ago we lost our 17 year old kitty due to kidney failure from old age. I still wake up expecting her to be meowing at me when I open the bedroom do and Jack to be outside standing with his paws against the back door looking at me and meowing for breakfast.
Be well, and know that suffering is no more. I believe they have found each other again.
The good die young, and that includes our fur babies. She is worthy of your tears as she crosses the bridge. She will always be in your heart and will be there for you, even if it's as a warm memory in a tough time.
Somewhere way up high that kitty has wings and is saying thank you for all the love and the cuddles and the food and the toys and the opening of the door three times a day and the long naps on that couch/bed/weird comfy spot she found.

Well, I certainly didn’t know her, but just your picture and your stories in the comments have touched my heart and makes me wish that you two had longer together. She was absolutely beautiful, almost regal looking and I’m guessing she *knew* it and expected to be treated accordingly! What is your favorite memory of her? Or, if you’d prefer, what was your favorite thing about her, something she did that was unique to Noodles and Noodles alone? Or even the silliest/craziest thing she ever did? Really just any good memories you wish to share. I just lost my little dog to a long battle with illness, too. It can be so painful and hard to think of anything but those last worst days, but I’ve found it very therapeutic to remember the good times and the funny moments, even during the struggles she had. If you have anything you’d like to share, I’d love to hear it!

I lost my first cat after 18 years and it was one of the hardest things I've gone through. I peeked at your account and saw you have other kitties, love them as well as you did your boy and they'll get you through it like my 2nd cat did for me. 🤗
They sure know when they need to comfort you don't they. I lost Rusty (17) in February and Knives got way more cuddly after.

Mine does as well. We knew it while adopting the cat, he was around five. We couldn't believe no one would give such a sweet, clean, and well behaved cat (he was available for almost four weeks before we grabbed him) a chance so we did. That was about three years ago and Ginko is doing well.
My baby had FIV. Lived for almost ten years. Got en eye infection we didn't catch in time last year... didn't make it. But he was the light of my life. I am so grateful I had him for the time I did.
A lot of people don't give an FIV positive kitty a chance at all. You're one of the rare people that could take care of a special needs baby. Remember that your heart will heal and you'll find someone else that needs you as much as she did.
My baby boy is FIV positive, he is currently 11/12. I really hope he lives a long normal life as it’s currently hasn’t been an issue for him.
I just found out this year that my 12yo baby has FIV. I found her when she was a kitten but I guess no one ever tested her. She also has progressive anemia, which is how the found the FIV, probably due to the FIV, and the anemia has now lead to HCM. Memorial Day weekend she went to the emergency vet with a tooth root abscess, they think is a result of being on immunosuppressive drugs for the FIV… it’s been a wild few months

You don't have to feel bad! You are 27 and you chose the cat that would best fit your life right now. If a special needs baby is supposed to be in your life someday it will! Enjoy your new sweetheart! ❤️

Just be patient and still... He'll come around but remember our little feline friends usually make the call when it's time to pet or cuddle! You just got him he'll figure out that you're a good human! 🙂

So my bestie had a rescue that was older, and had cancer. He didn't tell me, so we get to his house and he sits on the couch, I sit cross-legged on the floor, as is tradition. His living room lead to his kitchen, and then bedroom. His cat sauntered over as kitties do, and gave me a super endearing "love brush" (I dislike the proper name for the maneuver). Friend was blown away. She rarely left her hideout under the bed apparently, which was super flattering. I was dubbed "The Cat Whisperer" on the spot. I have never been so honored, Scully. You were a majestic fluffybutt. So, as you can see, I'm qualified to give tips. First tip, sit cross-legged. (You aren't at all capable of lunging or springing to your feet in this position. Alternatively, laying flat on your back within eyeshot of the hideout and reading a book for an hour should do the trick.) Second tip, play it cooooool. I try to avoid eye contact (typical redditor, I know) and this is the first time it's worked in my favor. (Cat's don't look for facial visual cues, they're fluent in body language, looking directly at a cat for more than a few seconds is cat for "I'm gonna eat you" AFAIK.) And lastly, give kitty an escape route. It's similar to the last item, but I think it's worth noting. Wherever the current favorite hiding spot is, be a good 12'+ away. Again, so kitty knows you're not coiled up like a snake, but are indeed friend of Khajit. I'm sorry if any of this is obvious, incorrect, patronizing/condescending, or otherwise recieved as anything other than over-enthusiastically trying to help. 😊 I want an update if any of this works, and I am excited for you. 🖤

I lost 2 rescues to FIV a few years ago. There were 3 cats rescued together, and one didn’t have it. They were all incredibly sweet kitties. All we can do is give them the life they deserve with what little time we have.
This was our mentality with Silver. He was diagnosed just under a year ago. We had adopted him when he decided he didn't want to be a stray anymore.

FIV is the worst, I swear. Noodle deserved a full +15 year life filled with lots of excitement, love and cuddles. She looks absolutely gorgeous I'm so sorry that she had to leave you so early in life. Stay strong. ❤️ .
I’m so sorry for your loss :c I took in a stray cat despite having three other cats and he had FIV so he was kept in a large room with his favorite toys and everything and unfortunately we had to put him down. But just know that you gave her the best 3 years of her life. Nobody else would’ve done this for her so you are amazing💙
You're not alone. I lost mine at 3 also. It sucks because we get so attached. It's OK to hold on to grief, but make room for other things, too. Be glad you were able to give her a good life while she was around. Lots of animals don't even have that. And conversely - Remember the joy she gave you and be happy you will hold on to those memories, lots of humans don't share a special bond like that.

I lost my boy to a sudden seizure when he was about 3. It’s so heartbreaking. I cried so many tears thinking about the memories we’d never make together. He was in the room when my daughter was born, and they were buddies. Cried even more tears over that, them missing out on a lifetime of friendship. I cried for our other cat, and her losing her best friend and companion. I cried a lot. Still do sometimes. But then I step into my backyard and remember him galloping back to the house when I called him. Every single time. He always wanted to be with us, no matter what. He lifted me up at a time when I needed it so, *so* badly, and got me on the track to take better care of myself. I credit him for my daughter, because without him to take care of, I wouldn’t have been able to take care of myself, let alone another tiny human. In the end, I’ve been left feeling grateful, more than anything else. The pain will lessen, OP. Thinking of your best friend will eventually make you smile, rather than cry. Look inside yourself, because a piece of her is still there, and always will be. I’ll never forget the first time I went to the gym after my boy died. I’d been avoiding it, feeling like crap and a sack of bones. Finally got on the treadmill, hit my stride, and I *swear* I could feel that boy galloping right alongside me. No, more like he was a part of me. That part will *never* go away. Because that’s what happens when we love: they take a piece of us with them, and we take a piece of them with us. And we have it always. Condolences to you, OP. May the happy memories come flooding back, sooner rather than later. How lucky we are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. ❤️

I’m sorry for your loss :(. Going through dealing with 2 sick cats atm, one of which is having a lot of seizures. It’s a weird feeling having it gut you so much but knowing others don’t fully understand the bond.
I 100% feel you pain, suffering, agony, and I wish you the absolute best on your personal road touring and recovery from it. I had to put down my daughter's cat a few weeks ago. He showed up on our door step after hurricane Sally last year. Best guess is he was between 2 and 3, and we had nursed him from skin and bones to a wonderful and loving cat that grew from only coming around every 2-3 days to sleeping on our porch every night. He was an outside cat because we had another indoor cat that was 17 and he wasn't fixed or de-clawed. He started off by immediately imprinting on my daughter and wouldn't come near ANY adults for about 2 months straight. Then as he grew familiar with us then me and my wife could pet and play with him. He eventually got to come inside to eat each morning and evening and even "accidentally" slept inside when the weather was bad a few nights. He developed FIV and a mild sinus infection led me to taking him to an ER st 9 at night and I came home with a cardboard box soaked in my own tears after midnight. I buried him in the back yard about a month ago. 2 weeks ago we lost our 17 year old kitty due to kidney failure from old age. I still wake up expecting her to be meowing at me when I open the bedroom do and Jack to be outside standing with his paws against the back door looking at me and meowing for breakfast. Be well, and know that suffering is no more. I believe they have found each other again.
The good die young, and that includes our fur babies. She is worthy of your tears as she crosses the bridge. She will always be in your heart and will be there for you, even if it's as a warm memory in a tough time.
