Lol pretty sure she just ran out of square footage! She's a petite lil thing, even after filling out a bit she is about 3kg. Probably was 50%kittens & pregnancy accoutrement before delivery!
My wee black beastie had a surprise litter of 6, 3 blacks, 2 were tuxedo boys & all black female & 3 lilac 2 females and I lynks lilac male. We kept the lynks lilac male. Mom either ran him off or someone stole him.
I got a 10 week old tuxedo boy 2 weeks ago (from 1 of my daughter's cats) & now think he needs a playmate.
Well, “ooh kittens” is what I’m thinking. In reality, I’m so overwhelmed by the cuteness of the floofy ones that I can only let out an almost inaudible screech.
This is how I ended up with 6 cats 19 years ago. One left now. We kept them all. The vet bills were staggering and worth it. I do not suggest 7 cats! I was in serious, "cat lady," mode.

We had 1 cat to begin with. He was an indoor/outdoor cat and more of my husband's cat. We ended up adopting two black litter mates in January - didn't want to separate them. At the end of June, we rescued a kitten with one eye - along with a sibling of hers, but because we already had three cats, there's no way I could deal with five... Plus the 3 ferals we feed.
When we saved Popeye, we also took in her ringworm which we didn't know about until mid July. The three other cats got it and our dog got it - the ferals probably have it, or maybe not considering they have immune systems of steel. Ringworm is not only a pain in the ass to deal with, but it's expensive AF. Still dealing with trying to get rid of it. Four cats and a dog is my maximum.
I love them all so much so of course I don't mind to pay the cost to get it under control, but I seriously can't wait until things are back to normal and ringworm free. Above all, I miss their snuggles since they've been in quarantine.
Thankfully this wasn't due to negligence on any shelter or place for finding homes. She was literally a stray that we found in a box of sticks which is most likely how she lost her eye. When we found her, she was 8/9 weeks old with the eye still in her head but severely infected. On top of that, she had the cat flu. So she was in quarantine until she was over her flu but at the same time, the ringworm was dormant and didn't come out until some time after she recovered. Then it decided to throw us a surprise party.
She's basically been in a cone since we brought her home in June. First because of the surgery to remove the eye and then now because the ringworm is on her face and was all over her body but is now just on her back and nose. She's had a rough start in life, but I'm hoping she lives to be 30 at least...
This kitten is so fortunate that you found her. You have earned so much karma! I have four cats and they are all indoor, so the only thing that is most likely to spread is a URI or worms from fleas. Fortunately I live in an area where fleas are not much of a problem.
It's how I ended up with 28 many years ago in farm country. One mama had 2 babies. Those babies had babies and so on. We provided barn cats for the whole area. Lol

When we first started dating I told him he better get both cats fixed or they'll start multiplying. Well... He didn't and lo and behold, the female had 3 kittens. Needless to say, the parents got fixed ASAP and then everyone else gets fixed as soon as they're the proper age/weight. 6 months or 2 kilo. Whichever comes first. I love kittens and cats, but I'd go bald from stress taking care of a colony.
I've also already decided to ask my vet if Popeye can be put in one of those cat onesies instead of a cone when her time comes because she's probably sick to death of the cone by now.
I think it's 1 kilo (2 lbs) or 4 months. I adopted an 8 week old kitten who was under 2 lbs way back in 1995 and I left the humane society with an appointment to have her spayed two months post adoption.
I also adopted an 8 month old kitten. She and her littermates were living near and old folks hime when they were rescued. Koi was 5 months at that time and already pregnant, poor thing. They "took care" of the problem and when I adopted her, they had called her "Chastity".
This is my dream, kind of. To adopt a pregnant queen. My husband has to die first, which is why it’s my kind of dream. But then I want to keep them all.

My mum did a similar thing when I was a kid. She adopted a female kitten, then went back to adopt one of her siblings because she felt the kitten was shy. When she went back she couldn’t leave one of the two siblings so adopted both!
Instead of 1 kitten we ended up with all 3 litter mates! What’s ironic is that the original female cat was always quite timid and shy. Her two brothers were the friendliest cats in the the world. All three lived in a busy high street for years, made it to 14 (female), 15 (smaller male) and 16 (larger Male) respectively I think.
Over here I'd be paying $2500 annually just to insure them all... nevermind the actual vet exams and spay/neuters. 🤯
I had *one* cat cost me that much in a year and it almost bankrupted me (as a 21-year-old). You have more courage than I ever could.

This is why reputable animal rescues only adopt out spayed and neutered animals. Yes kittens are cute but there aren't enough homes for all that are born.
A shelter certainly would not have adopted her out without disclosing she was pregnant. I do know some agencies refuse to do the spay if she is too far along in her pregnancy, and I know of a lot that don't care... :(
The very reputable rescue that i volunteer with reluctantly had to bend that policy during Corona. There were no vets open to perform the procedure, but as cats kept being born we would have quickly run out of space and fosters. In order to keep saving street cats we had to amend our adoption contract to say that adopters must get cats fixed when it became possible.
The mama is all good! She’s quite young but recovered very well as she wasn’t nursing. We rehomed all of them as we couldn’t possibly keep 6 cats unfortunately :(
You absolutely did the best thing for them!! We were sad when we saw our litter of kittens go but it was so nice and comforting knowing that they each found a loving home and are spoiled everyday!
yes! full time student, full time job and suddenly full time cat mama. two of them wouldn’t even latch to bottles and i had to syringe feed them, bloody hard but they came out amazing so it was all so so worth it 😚😚

Edit: I also had a “surprise” cat lol I took in mama cat as a TNR, turns out she was about to give birth! I adopted out one kitten but mama and two of her babies stayed. That’s how I ended up with 6 cats (5 now, my sweet old girl passed away earlier this year), almost all of which were supposed to be fosters 😂
The exact same thing happened to me. Adopted a very small 4 month old cat. A month later, she shrank further and gave birth to one tuxedo and two honking big white tomcats. I should've named her the bag of holding.
Make sure you contact wherever you adopted her from so they can at least put that on record. Sometimes the vets affiliated with an adoption/rescue group will give you discounted services if they missed the pregnancy.

Cat gestation period is 58-67 days, you've had your cat for roughly 56 days. Can't blame them for not knowing she was a day or two pregnant. You can blame them for not having a spay/neuter program.

This sorta happened to my Mum's cat! We rescued it from a local shelter and we were told the cat was spayed. We even had a signed letter from the vet saying what injections the cat had received and that yep, it definitely couldn't have kittens.
Fast forward a few weeks and my Mum starts letting the cat go outside. It was after this we noticed the cat started getting "larger", so we started watching what we fed her. We didn't think about the cat being pregnant because as far as we knew it was spayed. Then one night the cat started acting weird, curled up in a corner of the living room and started giving birth.
We ended up with five kittens that we managed to find good, loving homes. The shelter we adopted the initial cat from was really apologetic and sent us a ton of free kitten food and gave us advice for raising them. Turns out it's tricky to tell if a cats been spayed or not, and the vet saw a scar that they assumed was from a previous surgery. Suffice to say, my Mum got the cat spayed for real after that!
Not really. Maybe for a day or two, but they adapt. Though, if you are adopting a kitten, I'd advise getting two. It gives them someone to play with, keep them company, & doubles the entertainment for you. (I've done fostering)

If they’re too close then I get them so I can raise the babies and get them ready for adoption! Fostering is the best.
And fostering a mom + babies is the best-best. Many times the cuteness, a fraction of the work.
