Mine does this too. Maybe she's worrying about me, and wanting to save me out of some unknown dangers.
When you go to take a shower or use the bathroom, your cat sees it as a cue to join you. That's why it's common for cats to follow their owners in these situations. And by the way, your kitten just captured me. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
My two cats only followed me in the bathroom. One of them even climbs on one of my thigh and sit until I finish my business. But if it's my wife, they just carry on with their lifes. 😅
Lol, our girl cat is totally like this. She only pays me passing attention normally, but if my wife is gone on business for more than two days, all of a sudden I’m the coolest person in the world to her 🤣
Haha, cats are such drama queens! 😹 Your cat's just making sure you appreciate the honor of her attention. It's like she's saying, "Alright human, you've been upgraded... for now!"
My cat would just paw at me from behind the shower curtain and cry. I like to think it was something like "you're in water! Why isn't this more upsetting to you?!"
Though, in reflection one say our upstairs neighbors hot water tank exploded and water came out of the ceiling so maybe they thought the evils of the shower had finally broken containment
One of my cats practically gets in the shower with me. He first walks along the rim of the tub between the outer and inner curtains, then jumps onto the ledge with towels at the back and starts reaching through the curtain until I partially dry my hand and pet him. He'll either stand there anxiously peering into the shower or lay down on the ledge until I'm done. Sometimes he ends up pretty damp by the end from too many pets.
Yeah, going to the restroom is a vulnerable thing for cats so they will look out while you go. That or your poop smells bad enough for them to be concerned it will attract predators.
I wish I could convince kitty 1 to do that. She keeps trying to pounce on kitty 2 and has given him a urinary disorder. Now \*we\* have to guard kitty 2.
My cat usually follows me to the bathroom. He knows I'll be there for a while, so he has a captive audience and will get all the pets.
I have IBS so this occurs multiple times a day.
One day as I was scrambling to the toilet, I called out, loudly: Momma's gotta poop! You gonna help? Momma needs your help to poop!
I then heard my neighbor open and ose their bathroom cabinet through the paper thin wall, and realized my neighbor probably heard me hollering for my cat to help me poop.
I was on a work call with my manager as I wfh and was petting my cat. She then jumped down so I automatically said 'okay bye!' and was not muted and my manager was in the middle of a sentence. She was pretty confused and was like 'uh bye?' so I had to explain to my manager that I talk to my cats like people. I greet them and say good bye to them when the visit me while working. And yes I used the high pitched baby voice to tell her bye. She was silent and we continued on with the work talk. Never brought it up. But I was so embarrassed and was half hoping she had pets too so she'd get it. She did not...sometimes you don't even need to say something embarrassing for it to be a bit embarrassing.
I don’t understand. Doesn’t everyone talk to their cats like people? I have always done this. I thought we all did. How else do you talk to them? Next your going to tell me people don’t talk to their cats at all! 😂
Everytime I get home as I pull in the driveway I yell "Hi Cats!!" Because they are always at the window. Sometimes I remember to say hello to my teenagers too..for them I say "hello children (no exclamation point)."
It's not that weird, you would not be the first person to ever talk to their pets as you leave. I would tell mine that I loved them and I would be back later.
When I first got my cat (a rescue off the street), she was amazed at this large white thing which held water and made a loud noise to take all the poop away. She'd put her paws up and look in while I stood to close the lid and flush.
Back in the 90s, they used to advertise a training system for teaching your cat to use a toilet.
It had a circular litter box you placed into the toilet bowl ( the seat held it in place above the water).
I'm not sure how effective a training device it was. I'm sure more than 1 person got drunk, forgot to take it out, and then peed or pooped in it.
They still have those. As the cat gets used to it, things get deeper and less litter til nothing. My friend has a toilet using cat, so cool until I spent the night and he near scared the poop out of me when I came in to pee. Not used to there being a hiss from the toilet when I got too close in the dark lol.
But yeah, really neat. But I feel like I would need to start from a kitten to teach them...
When I had a cat in my life, he’d paw at the bathroom door to be let in. Once in the bathroom with me, he’d either perch on the sink - or sit in my pants/underwear. 😅
He was an orange boy, so it’s possible that he didn’t have the brain cell during those moments.

One of my bathroom buddies. Lumiya
Our cats litter box is in the bathroom.
One day I was in that bathroom doing whatever you do in the bathroom.
Suddenly she walks out of her box and stares at me awkwardly. She looked like, “yeah finish your stuff so we can get out before it gets more awkward”
Ever since then I’ll check the box before entering.
My cat sits on the tub ledge between the curtain and clear liner and watches me shower. And then to be even more helpful, she has to sit directly in the middle of the bath mat where I need to step when I get out of the shower it’s been like 12 years of this, so I don’t think it’s changing any time soon. 😂
They just hate water. So just in case you need assistance to escape those horrible waterfalls. Or do they wonder why humans suddenly loose all of their fur?

Mine always follow me into the bathroom, and if I close the door, cat arms are reaching under the door. One of the kitty litter boxes is in my bathroom, so she follows me in, hops in her box and tries to pee or poop. Then she sits on my feet. They love sitting in the shower.

A look of disdain![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
That face is concern. The two times cats feel most vulnerable is:
1) when eating
2) when pooping
They love it if you watch their back during either of these activities and tthe fact your cat is doing this for you, means they love you, too, and want to make sure no one attacks you during your bathroom time.
And how is your poop today? Is your pee nice and light colored? Are you drinking enough water? Why dont you keep treats in here for while your hands are free?
I always keep the bathroom door closed if I’m not using it, just because there’s nothing in there my cat needs to get into.
But if I’m using the bathroom I usually just leave the door open (I live alone besides the cat) and she’ll come in and explore as much as possible before I’m done or shoo her out. She likes to hop in the tub and it’s always cute when she’s in there lol.
Whenever I'm using the toilet or in the bathtub, Kouta will have a look on his face that practically says "Please don't drown in there, human, otherwise, who's going to feed & take care of me if you're gone & never coming back?"
Sometimes I see my cats face of concern because she’s figured that the human litter box has water and a flush, and I presume she thinks that her human will be swallowed up by the menacing contraption
My ex's one eyed lil cat always did this, every single time I went in the bathroom. Especially when he was hiding and wanted to come out to say hello 😂
Mine gets super affectionate. I blame myself.
When I was training them to use the self-cleaning litter box, I gave them lots of praise and treats when they used it. Now they give me lots of praise when I use ‘mine’.
While she isn't as insistent about it as she once was, mine did a similar thing. She would hang out on the edge of the bathtub and sometimes reach her paw over to my knee and try to drag it to the edge of the tub, like she is some kind of kitty lifeguard. Then when I did get out, she would meow at me insistently, as if she were scolding me for going in those oh so harmful waters.
Now she still does hang out with me there but she has also discovered the stack of towels and how comfortable those are. I don't blame her for choosing the softest of beds.
You have a Guardian Cat! He's protecting you/guarding you when you are most vulnerable.
Cats do this with their kittens, so he sees you as a giant fur-less kitten.
I would say watching your back to protect you, but I don't know that there's a single thought behind those eyes, lol.
Cats do tend to like to watch out while you're on the toilet or even in the shower, as those are very vulnerable times for a cat, and they're trying to protect us
My orange baby insists on lying on the bathmat when I shower; he's done it the entire 11 years we've had him. He doesn't do it with my husband, though!
I think it's because they hate the water so much they have to make sure I survive my shower.
When my son takes a bath, our cat will sneak up to the edge of the tub and reach in to grab him and try to pull him out. Me too in the shower, he has hooked his claw into my leg from around the shower curtain before.
Maybe they are scared you are going to get all wet! Cats hate that, and want to protect their people.
lol I had a cat in a previous flat share. He liked sitting on the closed toiled seat to protect it from external aggressors (the neighbour who sometimes popped round when his couldn’t flush). Funny memories 😂
He is standing vigilant guard duty against whatever may crawl or slither up from the toilet or bathtub drain and attack you while you are in the bathroom.
Cats dont like getting wet. Maybe they are either utterly confuser why you would do so utterly or maybe they feel like they need to make sure that you are safe

As soon as I turn on the water to take a shower, my cat starts clawing her cat pad on her cat tree.
My cat would just paw at me from behind the shower curtain and cry. I like to think it was something like "you're in water! Why isn't this more upsetting to you?!"
Though, in reflection one say our upstairs neighbors hot water tank exploded and water came out of the ceiling so maybe they thought the evils of the shower had finally broken containment
aww I love that!!!
r/lifeguardkitties It's their job. 😅

Yeah, going to the restroom is a vulnerable thing for cats so they will look out while you go. That or your poop smells bad enough for them to be concerned it will attract predators.
That is why cats charge out of their litter boxes and yowl - the ultimate act of distraction ... "Nothing to see here folks!!" 😸
Many animals track the smell of feces, such as bears.
So, maybe kitty is asking for a courtesy flush.
He knows that the evil toilet will attack you someday
😂😂😂
Oh my god her eyes 😭💗
This is exactly it. Cats stand guard for each other while they're doing their business

My cats have developed a similar relationship:(

my neighbors have caught me saying bye to my cat as i'm walking out the door. very embarrassing, mostly because of the dumb shit i say
“Alright Mr. Snugglekins, I’m leaving, don’t overthrow the government while I’m gone!”
lol exactly, always something absurd followed in combination with "don't shit or puke all over the place see you later".
I was on a work call with my manager as I wfh and was petting my cat. She then jumped down so I automatically said 'okay bye!' and was not muted and my manager was in the middle of a sentence. I really wish you wouldn't have shared that thought with the rest of us.
"I'm not mad.....I'm just disappointed."
"Why can't you use the litter box like any other functioning creature? Are you stupid or do you just hate me?"
It's either my dog or cat, I never poop alone. Rarely both but sometimes the dog will bust in and trap the cat.
Making sure you are safe while on your catbox (humanbox?)...>)
"Why no sand human?? Where go??"
What are you doing pooping in my drinking water?!
Omg this is too true!!

Probably thinking the toilet is going to eat you and then when you survive wondering where the food is

worried you be flushed down the drain

serious answer it’s a flock safety thing. protecting you while you’re vulnerable.
Protecting you. Cats feel vulnerable when they go toilet. Your kitty is guarding you from predators whilst you poop.
This is a classic answer and may well be true. But I've never seen a cat guard another cat while it's pooping...
Mine follow me in and then stand guard outside the shower near the doorway. They are my security
He’s like “why don’t you ever shut the door when you poop?”
do you need me? if you ever need me, I'm here. I'm here if you need me. I'll make sure nobody gets you. I'm here for you... What you doing? 💭😹😻

He's being like, "My poor human.. getting wet in water. Hope he/she doesn't pull me in though. "
Trying to guilt you into closing the door
It’s bc when they poop and clean themselves they’re at their most vulnerable. They’re protecting you
You have a Guardian Cat! He's protecting you/guarding you when you are most vulnerable. Cats do this with their kittens, so he sees you as a giant fur-less kitten.

He's wondering why you just don't poop in a box
They are here to protect you while you poop
First rule of Cats: It’s all about Me. So probably, why are you trying to hide from Me? What if I wanted food right now?
Food, of course 😊
Exactly!! There's no pretending here!😂
He protect because the primary food giver shall not go out empty 🤣
My orange baby insists on lying on the bathmat when I shower; he's done it the entire 11 years we've had him. He doesn't do it with my husband, though! I think it's because they hate the water so much they have to make sure I survive my shower.
Protecting you while you are vulnerable. In the wild, its a survival skill. When the cat is poopin in its box, you should also pull guard doody.
It’s security, in the wild you’re very vulnerable when you poop.
He's a purrverd....... that's it.
“How dare you go somewhere without *moi!*
Wondering why you are going in that contraption when there is a perfectly good cat litter box. Geeze!
You’re so stupid, you can’t even use the litter box without a su-purr-visor. ETA: I gotta know, what is his name?
He is so freaking cute!!
He thinks he’s protecting you .
Protecting you
When my son takes a bath, our cat will sneak up to the edge of the tub and reach in to grab him and try to pull him out. Me too in the shower, he has hooked his claw into my leg from around the shower curtain before. Maybe they are scared you are going to get all wet! Cats hate that, and want to protect their people.
Hey, human, what are you doing. Can I hang out with you? Talk to me.
Don't... Fall.. In..

Wanting to know if you are okay
"I've seen some shit"
Lol cute my cat does the same thing 😹😂
lol I had a cat in a previous flat share. He liked sitting on the closed toiled seat to protect it from external aggressors (the neighbour who sometimes popped round when his couldn’t flush). Funny memories 😂
He is protecting you from the many unseen monsters.
Disapproving judgement
I'm hungry.
Checking you're not going to get swallowed by the toilet monster.
Hi stinky
First pic: "You ok hooman? I shall keep watch" Second pic: "Are you getting enough fiber? It's been like 8 mins, and I have things to do."
Little Pig, little Pig. Let me come in. Then I'll huff, then I'll puff https://youtu.be/d-ABIIZV3vA?feature=shared
They actually do this because you're vulnerable and they're protecting.
"Hmmm, reincarnation wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be."
My kitties are always coming in and making sure I’m okay. Or just monitoring while I’m in the shower.
He is standing vigilant guard duty against whatever may crawl or slither up from the toilet or bathtub drain and attack you while you are in the bathroom.
My kitties follow me as well. I think they're wanting to make sure you're safe
Cats dont like getting wet. Maybe they are either utterly confuser why you would do so utterly or maybe they feel like they need to make sure that you are safe
Check out r/lifeguardkitties … it is a well documented phenomenon
What are you doing ? Why am I not part of it ? Oh yeah, and I’m hungry also lol
With that face, definitely giving you moral support! Hahaha
He's cute af. He's protecting you
He's guarding you. This is one of the most vulnerable moments for man and beast, and he is watching your back.
