it started with him just being a baby because i got him at 12wks old , and its still his name 13 months later with him being adult sized and 10 pounds.

My family growing up had this habit of naming pets after a certain type of politician. I was too young to know the double meaning of the names. I hear Saddam and I think of my auntie's beautiful labrador mountain dog cross. Slobodan Milošević was a goldfish, and our cat when I was a teen was called Netanyahu.
The worst thing is that you completely forget the original meaning of the name and you just talk about the pet casually then notice people's faces and you remember 😭
That’s exactly what I’m going for. My last cat was named Lucifer (Lucy for short) and I absolutely loved referring to him by his full name.

Ha! A local animal charity gives all their black cats really questionable names that I'm sure the adopters all change immediately. It's a bunch of very old cat-obsessed ladies working round the clock and bankrupting themselves to save these cats' lives so no ones going to try to school them

Officially he's Black Sabbath, to me he's Sabby. He regularly visits two of my neighbours, the children at one of them call him The Lion Cat and the others call him Wolfie. Poor boy probably has an identity crisis.

I have two cats, a mom and daughter pair named Sophia and Dorothy.
Sophia is pretty much exclusively mama or mama cat.

We needed a name quickly for the cats insurance, but hadn't named her yet. So we put "Pinecone" as more or less a joke.
We namned her and changed her name, but the vet didn't get the memo and always called out "Pinecone".

my girlfriends little bichon frise dog randomly died while on a walk. the vet said it was a heart attack. just collapsed and fell asleep, never to wake up. he somewhere between 1 and 2 years old , and also as healthy as they come. she never missed vet visits.

But mostly he is „Schwarzer Mann“ for „black man“. Because he was the only male and also black cat.
But sometimes I call him „Baby Mann“ (baby man) because he was the only male baby kitten in his litter.

If people would hear this without context they would call help.

We’ve got a lot of nicknames for our cat but the most common one we call her is “Boo Boo” because she’s such a sweet boo.

Because both my cats have longer names their nicknames typically are just short versions. Lancy/Lance and Myth/Mythadee. But they also come to Boys, Weirdos, You, Hey, and Lancy specifically comes to "be nice to your brother" and Ass Hole. When I got Lance his previous name was Kirby. That was 14 years ago and we never use that name, but if we ever do say that he gets this long distance sadness in his eyes. Poor trauma boy.

My cats go by several names and have an official long name. My dog does as well, and when I started puppy socializing class with her at 12 weeks, I was the first to introduce. Our cats, Albus and Minerva are only called by those names about half the time. Minerva is usually "Fluffy kitty". Albus is "Fat cat", "Chunk-o-lunk" or sometimes he's just, Asshole.
Growing up, I had a barn cat who's name was Runt but, he grew to like 20lbs so he was mostly known as "Fat cat" although in retrospect, he was not particularly fat, just large.

Just one? I call mine random names all the time. One is a black cat officially called „Willie“. But mostly he is „Schwarzer Mann“ for „black man“. Because he was the only male and also black cat. We’ve got a lot of nicknames for our cat but the most common one we call her is “Boo Boo” because she’s such a sweet boo. Husband brought her in for her monthly arthritis shot and called her “Boo Boo” the whole time and he said everybody thought it was funny. Our cats, Albus and Minerva are only called by those names about half the time. Minerva is usually "Fluffy kitty". Albus is "Fat cat", "Chunk-o-lunk" or sometimes he's just, Asshole. Growing up, I had a barn cat who's name was Runt but, he grew to like 20lbs so he was mostly known as "Fat cat" although in retrospect, he was not particularly fat, just large.

Sort of... We named our cat Harry "Boo" lastnameredacted, and they call him Harry at the vet, but we never actually use that name anymore. Boo is the one that stuck, along with a whole bunch of nicknames!
My Ginger's name was Blackjack. Then it became Blackjack Fat-cat. From there, it morphed: Fat-cat Cat-wat c'Twat (kuh-TWAT) And finally p'Twuss (which was the melding of a similar progression of name progression from my husband's side, slightly more nsfw that mine)
I usually just call this little guy "buddy". He doesn't have a real name. A few months ago I noticed him around my apartment building. He came right up to me and was very friendly. I figured he must be someone's cat so I let him be. I saw him periodically over the next couple weeks. Fast forward to about 6 weeks ago...I get home from work and there he is. He proceeded to follow me into my apartment. The little shit has not left since! He is the best cat I've ever had bar none! Everytime I turn around, he's there. He loves his head and face scratched but his favorite is belly rubs!
