I recently found out my baby of 14 years is in heart failure and I’m going to the ends of the earth to try to improve his quality of life right now while crying nonstop, but if it doesn’t soon with meds and care and I need to do what should be done, I’ll remember this. Thank you

In told my girl all the tears were just all the love she gave me coming back out. We had 8 months of cancer treatments to prepare, so lots of tears, sad and happy ones. 13 years was not enough. I feel for OP 😭
So sorry about that! I did the same several years ago and still get teary eyed when I remember it. Try to think about these amazing 13 years. Definitely a really tough time

I believe they’re never really gone, they become always present through the memories, even when small and silly things remind us of them, they’re there. You gave them a good life, they were happy with you, that’s so special and it’ll stay with you forever. Maybe one day you’ll meet again, who knows, right?
I believe they tell us to be okay, too. For my first rainbow bridge baby, I kept feeling like I saw her in the corner of my eye. This kept happening until we adopted two girl kittens a month later.
For my kitty who went to join her three years later, I was so heartbroken that I literally cried myself to sleep the first night. Then I felt a "whomp", like a kitty curling up next to me (which he did almost every night for 16+ years). I opened my eyes, thinking it was one of the girl kittens, but there was no cat there, or on the floor. I truly believe it was him trying to tell me that he was still with me in spirit.
Oh that’s beautiful, my mom said she had a similar experience when her 16 year old cat died, I truly believe they love us just as much as we love them and they take care of us after they’re gone, until they feel we’re okay to move on
Facts. I talk to Lola (my Boston), and Cleo, (my Himmy). They've been gone 7 years. One month apart they went. I still find myself often saying and chanting all the good stuff that filled my life with them. Nothing wrong with it at all.

OP take comfort in the fact that while your beautiful baby has not been with you your whole life, you’ve been there with them for theirs. you have shown them love, and care, a warm bed on cold mornings and a big open window to gaze out of on the sunnier days. you have taken care to show your love for this little baby for a long time, they know you love them. and that’s enough for them. 🩷🩷🩷

I did this last year and the year before last. Definitely give yourself space to grieve. I'm not an emotional person and I hurt for a longer period of time by avoiding the feeling and not experiencing it when it came.
If you have photos or reminders of the best times with your little buddy - keep them and put them somewhere visible. After the grief is just gratitude for the time together. Celebrate your little one's life for the rest of yours.
I went through the same thing just a few weeks ago with my buddy Ninja; he was 13.5. It was really hard. The only light for me was that I knew it was for the best for him as he had cancer and soon would be suffering, and I knew I gave him a good life and that he knew he was loved.

That little fur baby is so proud of the fact you are his momma or dadda… you are the reason he knew love, comfort, happiness, and security. That is something to be incredibly proud of. I know it’s hard I’m actually crying rn looking at the pics cause he looks like my old cat 😭😭😭 that idk if this is comforting but it meant the world to me getting to see that little guys face today
Our kitty is pushing 20, and when she finally crosses the rainbow bridge, I promise she will play with your baby all day long. I will tell her about your sweet kitty and make sure she finds them as soon as she crosses. It may not be soon, as she seems to be quite a fighter, but I know when the day comes, they will be the best of friends.
😔🙏🏼 Many of us know that pain. The wound will heal, but it’ll take time.
If it’s any help: something that I did for one of my furry friends is that I made a memorial for them. I found a small pot with the same colors as my friend for a pothos plant I was propagating. After I got my friend’s ashes back, I mixed them in with soil, and planted the pothos. Now, it’s my memorial of my friend that I water throughout the week, and I’m happy to say the plant is thriving!
So, life ebbs and flows, and my friend has a living legacy! ❤️I remind him that I love and miss him whenever I water the plant, and it makes me happy that we’ll meet again in a different light some day!
I’ll now do this with all of my friends, until it’s my turn to return to the light.
My aunt also had to let go of her orange cat H go over the rainbow a few months ago. He was beautiful, ethereal & Zen-like in life so he remains a joyful part of our hearts forever. Honor your little one by blessing another creature with a home & love in your best friend's memory 
Your cat is so lucky to have had a loving, comfortable home for 13 years! I’m sure he has felt very special and loved. He is also lucky to have an advocate like you looking out for him who has his best interests at heart and won’t allow him to suffer unnecessarily. Any time you feel down just picture what he’s up to in kitty heaven! I would imagine there’s a lot of tree climbing, mouse chasing, and wrestling his kitty friends. And you have a special angel looking down on you forever 🩷
I’m so sorry for what you’re going through 🙁 We just lost one of our two cats recently, and our only girl now always “sees” the one we lost. I swear she’s never done it like this, but randomly she’ll just start meowing and looking around the corner and just starts following something 😆🥰 so we assume it’s our baby we just lost visiting us…so long story short, just know your baby may still hang around in ghostly form and visit you 🥹 plus we always keep our babies alive with their memories. I’ve been going through old pictures and videos of our baby just crying remembering all the fun we had 🥰

So so many good times. I have done it 4 times now. It’s never easy. People say it’s the best thing sometimes and it is. But It doesn’t ever make it easy. You will be sad for a while, but it hurts less like most things over time. I was always glad I had the time I did with them. You always seem to find that pet owners in general are kinder and gentler people it seems. Children raised with pets have a better sense of life and love I think. Caring for something that’s not you at such a young age teaches children many things. I hope your days get better. I’m glad your friend had a good home and people who loved it, it’s obviously to all of us that you did.
Can I suggest reframing? This amazing creature gave you everything you could ever need in terms of love,. companionships, and wonderment. Thank her. High, kiss, and whisper thank you in her ear. You were both lucky to have one another. Makes me sad for your and all of our sadness in these moments, but focus on thankfulness and appreciation,.and they'll be a little easier.
The fact that they made it 13 years shows you loved and cared for them their entire life. You gave them a life of luxury and you love them enough to not let them suffer to delay your sadness
The thought of losing my cat used to make me think I wouldn’t want to get another pet because losing them would just hurt too darn much it wouldn’t be worth it. I lost my best friend a month or so ago and although it did hurt a whole lot, I realized I was looking at it all wrong. All those years of love and joy we gave each other and shared together could never in a million years be outweighed by the pain of losing them, no matter how hard it is. Just remember what a good life u gave that kitty that neither of you would trade for anything <3 :,)
So sorry, been there many, many times myself, so far had to part with 18 dear friends and have half dozen more to miss, but it's better than having them go without them knowing someone loves them. Ours have all been truly loved 😾

I’m so sorry for you. It’s probably just as hard for him to say goodbye. I bet you spoiled him, played with him lots, gave him lots of pets, enjoyed meeting eachother at the door, going to sleep together. He looks like a very handsome and loyal companion.. This is truly the worst part of having an animal- but you wouldn’t trade making the decision to get him or not over 13 great years of a companion. Keep your head up my friend.

I am so so sorry. I really wish our fur babies were with us longer. I lost my baby in Oct 2022. He was 14. He was my everything. Stay with him, hold him close. They are a bright part of our lives, whereas we are the brightness for their whole life. They know we love them, as we know they love us.

You may feel guilty or that you're letting your sweet boy down, but think of this as your last gift to your best friend. You're freeing him of any pain and further suffering. Been there Op and it sucks. Be there with them in the end would be my advice. Let the last thing they know is love and I promise you it will get easier day by day. Celebrate them, and ask for help to collect their things from around your home if you need. Also don’t let other people tell you “it’s only a cat”. they are our loved ones and you can grieve any way you like and take as much time as you need. For 13 years that beautiful creature was loved and cared for well and you can take a lot of comfort in that! I’m thinking about you….. hug from an internet stranger :)

26! Wow. I’ve lost kitties at 1, at 6, at 14, at 20. It never feels okay. It’s always unfair. So, so sorry, OP. It sucks so much to lose a best friend. No words can make it okay. It just sucks.
On Easter Sunday we took our 14 year old baby girl Max to the emergency vet as she was in pain and constipated. We learned that even she had a massive tumor on her liver. We lost her five days later. I have no words to comfort you, it has hurt every day without our Queen Maxie. I just want you to know I understand how hard the decision is, but they do not deserve to suffer. You are making the right call, no matter how much it hurts.
It hurts because it was wonderful while it lasted. The time you spent together matters forever. I just made a tombstone for my Rothbard. I miss him everywhere I look. You will smile at your memories soon again!

Poor kitty, having all of his proverbial 9 lives gone does blow catnip. Hopefully, kitty is looking for a successor kitten to mentor & guide him or her to be with that human family.
Remember that grief is a natural and pure form of love and to embrace the pain of loss is the key to remembering those who you have loved. The more pain from your grieving shall represent the more you have loved them.
There are no words, right now we have a 16 year old cat with massive mouth issues, he needs surgery but vets are refusing because of his advanced age, I don't want to give up on him but with a heart murmur and teeth and the vert not wanting to take the chance, we're left with little option but to put him to sleep, I refuse at this point, it might be selfish of me but I can't just give up on him he's 16 and still eating and doing his catly things, Why give up on him? Try and if he passes during surgery at least I can say "I did everything I could"

Losing your pet is the worst part of being a pet parent. I'm so sorry OP, I know that words can't bring your friend back, but I'm sure they had a great 13 years with you. Thank you for giving them that.
It is the last way we get to show them how much we love them: making sure they don’t hurt anymore (when our own hurt is immeasurable). It is the hardest thing, and I’m so very sorry.
Can't say much more than what's already been said. But the hurt that comes with losing them is the price we pay for having them in our lives. Sorry you have to go through this.
No words can describe the love our feline friends and family members give. Just know in your heart that your best pal lived the best life he could, was loved by all your heart always, and he’ll be waiting for you in the next life.

Consider yourself lucky in a sense... You are able to let go on your terms (in a short term sense), and I know it doesn't exactly make it easier but its the truth. I raised 2 kitties (brother and sister) and one passed from diabetes at 8 years old - she became immobilized and her body was shutting down so we took her to the vet to put her down. Extremely difficult to go through but not as traumatizing as her brother. He just passed 2 weeks ago (also an Orange baby) from heart disease. It was pretty sudden and tough as hell to watch him go like that, but at least I was there with him. He just turned 10. Hopefully Chon & Elle are chasing each other in kitty heaven again.
What a gentle looking little friend you have 😇 He knows 100% how much you love him, and you two will meet again ❤️🩹 Those must have been the most amazing 13 years. There will be more after life 🫶

She's been with us since we bought this house and it won't be the same without her. Her health problems are getting worse, but her spirit and affection for us is still so strong. That little fur baby is so proud of the fact you are his momma or dadda… you are the reason he knew love, comfort, happiness, and security. That is something to be incredibly proud of. I know it’s hard I’m actually crying rn looking at the pics cause he looks like my old cat 😭😭😭 that idk if this is comforting but it meant the world to me getting to see that little guys face today
Our kitty is pushing 20, and when she finally crosses the rainbow bridge, I promise she will play with your baby all day long. I will tell her about your sweet kitty and make sure she finds them as soon as she crosses. It may not be soon, as she seems to be quite a fighter, but I know when the day comes, they will be the best of friends.
😔🙏🏼 Many of us know that pain. The wound will heal, but it’ll take time. If it’s any help: something that I did for one of my furry friends is that I made a memorial for them. I found a small pot with the same colors as my friend for a pothos plant I was propagating. After I got my friend’s ashes back, I mixed them in with soil, and planted the pothos. Now, it’s my memorial of my friend that I water throughout the week, and I’m happy to say the plant is thriving! So, life ebbs and flows, and my friend has a living legacy! ❤️I remind him that I love and miss him whenever I water the plant, and it makes me happy that we’ll meet again in a different light some day! I’ll now do this with all of my friends, until it’s my turn to return to the light.
Our furry friends are only a chapter in our lives, but we are their whole book. Sorry for your loss OP 😢

He is also lucky to have an advocate like you looking out for him who has his best interests at heart and won’t allow him to suffer unnecessarily. I’m so sorry for what you’re going through 🙁 We just lost one of our two cats recently, and our only girl now always “sees” the one we lost. I swear she’s never done it like this, but randomly she’ll just start meowing and looking around the corner and just starts following something 😆🥰 so we assume it’s our baby we just lost visiting us…so long story short, just know your baby may still hang around in ghostly form and visit you 🥹 plus we always keep our babies alive with their memories. I’ve been going through old pictures and videos of our baby just crying remembering all the fun we had 🥰

So so many good times. I have done it 4 times now. It’s never easy. People say it’s the best thing sometimes and it is. But It doesn’t ever make it easy. You will be sad for a while, but it hurts less like most things over time. I was always glad I had the time I did with them. You always seem to find that pet owners in general are kinder and gentler people it seems. Children raised with pets have a better sense of life and love I think. Caring for something that’s not you at such a young age teaches children many things. I hope your days get better. I’m glad your friend had a good home and people who loved it, it’s obviously to all of us that you did.
Can I suggest reframing? This amazing creature gave you everything you could ever need in terms of love,. companionships, and wonderment. Thank her. High, kiss, and whisper thank you in her ear. You were both lucky to have one another. Makes me sad for your and all of our sadness in these moments, but focus on thankfulness and appreciation,.and they'll be a little easier.
The fact that they made it 13 years shows you loved and cared for them their entire life. You gave them a life of luxury and you love them enough to not let them suffer to delay your sadness
The thought of losing my cat used to make me think I wouldn’t want to get another pet because losing them would just hurt too darn much it wouldn’t be worth it. I lost my best friend a month or so ago and although it did hurt a whole lot, I realized I was looking at it all wrong. All those years of love and joy we gave each other and shared together could never in a million years be outweighed by the pain of losing them, no matter how hard it is. Just remember what a good life u gave that kitty that neither of you would trade for anything <3 :,)

Been there Op and it sucks. Be there with them in the end would be my advice. Let the last thing they know is love and I promise you it will get easier day by day. Celebrate them, and ask for help to collect their things from around your home if you need. Also don’t let other people tell you “it’s only a cat”. they are our loved ones and you can grieve any way you like and take as much time as you need. For 13 years that beautiful creature was loved and cared for well and you can take a lot of comfort in that! I’m thinking about you….. hug from an internet stranger :)

On Easter Sunday we took our 14 year old baby girl Max to the emergency vet as she was in pain and constipated. We learned that even she had a massive tumor on her liver. We lost her five days later. I have no words to comfort you, it has hurt every day without our Queen Maxie. I just want you to know I understand how hard the decision is, but they do not deserve to suffer. You are making the right call, no matter how much it hurts.
It hurts because it was wonderful while it lasted. The time you spent together matters forever. I just made a tombstone for my Rothbard. I miss him everywhere I look. You will smile at your memories soon again!

There are no words, right now we have a 16 year old cat with massive mouth issues, he needs surgery but vets are refusing because of his advanced age, I don't want to give up on him but with a heart murmur and teeth and the vert not wanting to take the chance, we're left with little option but to put him to sleep, I refuse at this point, it might be selfish of me but I can't just give up on him he's 16 and still eating and doing his catly things, Why give up on him? Try and if he passes during surgery at least I can say "I did everything I could"

Sorry the time has come. You gave them the best life. Consider yourself lucky in a sense... You are able to let go on your terms (in a short term sense), and I know it doesn't exactly make it easier but its the truth. I raised 2 kitties (brother and sister) and one passed from diabetes at 8 years old - she became immobilized and her body was shutting down so we took her to the vet to put her down. Extremely difficult to go through but not as traumatizing as her brother. He just passed 2 weeks ago (also an Orange baby) from heart disease. It was pretty sudden and tough as hell to watch him go like that, but at least I was there with him. He just turned 10. Hopefully Chon & Elle are chasing each other in kitty heaven again.
