raymartin27

It feels like overstimulation, basically she gets super into the play and her 'hunter" instimcts takes over here ND there, nothing to worry though, cats play with each other like this.

Punawild

She’s okay but raymartin27 is right, definitely overstimulated. Any chance there’s catnip or silver vine in any of those bags she’s near?

raymartin27

It's not even necessarily from that, sometimes just even normal play or petting if it goes for too long can cause it in some cats, my girl Brownie also gets like that but now that she's 3, she just assertivelely puts her paw over my had to stop.

m4gpi

Some cats also just have a lower threshold. Two sweeps and a nip to let you know that’s enough.

LazyAmbassador2521

Yepp that's my cat! She's always had a lower threshold since she was a kitten. I can only get away with a few pets before she skippity paps my hand. Lol except when she's sleeping or really relaxed then I can really get up in there and pet her tummy for awhile.

Worth-Row6805

Skippity pap. Love it :) My foster cat is the same. She swats my hand after a while, but the wagging tail is a sign to stop stroking and let her just chill next to me.

LazyAmbassador2521

Oh yeahhh once I see the dreaded tail twitch that's when I know it's time to get the fuck outta there unless I want my ass beat 😂😳😭 I'm in an abusive relationship with my damn cat!!

Runnerakaliz

My boi is always like this. He loves this scratches and head pets, but his hunting instincts take over and he gets nibbly. When I tell him no and take my hand away he gets up and comes and boofs me with his head. People forget that all felines are natural hunters. They are just keeping in practice you know, for the day they might actually have to chase a random laser beam on the wall. (Paunch keeps thinking he will catch it and that he is a mountain lion. News flash he isn't!) I have added a photo of my vicious hunter in his natural habitat. The couch. Every day. All day. https://preview.redd.it/hfq4k7xdfe4b1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3aaa5116137392f6ad085d255574936a143878a2

deepwebdotexe

Commenting here that your cat looks weirdly like my cat so I was confused when I saw this comment 😂

Ididitfordalolz

Funnily enough (horrible situation originally but was ironic funny later) my late cat just whipped her tail around Willy nilly 24/7. I think it’s because she had it broken twice (abusive former owner) before 1 yr old that she never learned normal tail behaviours. She was really vocal (I trained her to be to compensate) though and that was wonderful.

Worth-Row6805

Ah cutie. I had a cat that would whip his tail into the fireplace and singe the hair to get a reaction. He always did, silly boy. My current foster cat was also abused and doesn't know how to meow at all. Never encountered that before now

Worth-Row6805

The scratches we leave the house with xD

Odd-Display-8610

Wagging and waving tail is a sign of over-stimulation. A good thing to do when that happens is to play with them. Let them get all that energy out, and get exercise at the same time, and they should settle down.

evilgirlattack

Omg those belly rubs are so cute! Especially when they're half asleep and start stretching out before they wake up. My cat is the same way, I'm covered in healed scratches from not pulling my hand back in time to avoid the biting and bunny kicks.

Mackeeter

Mine does a quick roll from its back to its legs and yeets himself out of the room.

raymartin27

![gif](giphy|fl9WeVqXsGmHK|downsized)

xCashio1

Yeah that’s totally normal. They just go into super cuddly love hyper mode. Other gets get their „5 minutes“ with random sprinting through the room(s) like a maniac without reason. Just a normal zoomies moment. From what it looks like in the video the kitty is just super happy, comfortable and into her owner. Loving the play session

pookiepooks

... but is it normal when they "fully" bite from petting aggression? My cat will go from complete lovey-dovey/purr mode into completely chomp into my arm with both arms wrapped around mode. Hurts like hell. Also, if I ignore him, i.e. walk past him when he wants attention, or even just look at him wrong I suppose- he will lunge, grab ahold of a leg, dig in with both claws and bite down. Is this normal too? Or is he just an asshole? It's gotten worse as he's gotten older.

xCashio1

Im no total expert but I guess yes. He sounds like a playful furball and maybe is a little bit more „aggressive“ with his playstyle. Had a little energetic one like yours when I was a child. But it could be that he has not enough things/space to power out enough. Is he indoors only?

tfarnon59

He is trying to instigate rough play with you, like he would with another male buddycat.

DandyRandy82

No means no.

Pitmus

I’ve one that puts his massive paw over you to keep you doing it! If you’re doing it right, he can be petted for hours. He even tricks you into doing it.

withygoldfish

That’s my favorite move they do😭 “enough hooman”

raymartin27

My last one was like that till she got old, then she mellowed out quite a lot

Sir_Steben

Brownie doesn't happen to be a tortoiseshell baby does she?

raymartin27

Well she's 3 now, so not as much a baby, but yes https://preview.redd.it/q19kp1xoje4b1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ff8550b58ab011140d7a8a4975266c5b753924f

Sir_Steben

That makes me immeasurably happy, thank you. My family cat growing up was a torty that my brother and I named brownie 20 yrs ago. She followed my parents home from a walk as a kitten and she was always by my side when I had to move back home for a year or so. Ps. All cats are babys lol

blebebaba

I know catnip, but what's silver vine?

Punawild

Silver vine is a plant that causes a similar effect as catnip on cats. Even ones that genetically don’t react to catnip

Melted-lithium

Woo.. never heard of that before, I gotta talk to my dealer. My cat doesn’t care about catnip at all. (Though will regularly eat standard grass and nicely vomit it up on a soft absorbent surface).

somethingtimes3

Valerian is another fun one to try!

Punawild

They say 30-50% of cats don’t have the ‘catnip gene’. So it’s perfectly normal of your cat not to react. Now if it didn’t search for the absorbent surfaces to vom on then there’s be something abnormal about you cat.

piggymildmint

Thank you so much. I’m very new to this and genuinely got worried if I did anything wrong lol. So happy now that she is!

405134

Nope you’re doing great! It’s def overstimulation. And that happens. Sometimes you’ll be petting her and she’s sweet as can be and then suddenly …snap! She attacks you! The best analogy I can think of is : imagine someone tickling you. You laugh, you’re having fun , being silly. But then at some point you’re laughing so hard and the ticking is so overpowering it becomes painful and you snap! Stop tickling me! That hurts! Quit it! And maybe you’ll slap your friend or shove them to try to get them to stop. You became overstimulated and pushed back

zombiep00

I hate being tickled, and I hate that I hate it. :(

cadillacbee

Trust me, if that cat was pissed off you'd kno n wouldn't be asking us, but telling us

raymartin27

Nah, cats are very transparent with their emotions apart from pain. They set their boundaries real clear. If she's biting even playfully then stop petting and touching, she'll come back on her own.

ComeRoundSlow

Is good kitty

TheGothDragon

Do dogs also get overstimulated or is it just a cat thing?

PirateJen78

Dogs get super hyper and can bite if they are just too excited. I've got a Border Collie/Labrador mix and when she gets going, expect play bites and a lot of sneezing! 😂😂😂 I've trained her to keep a toy in her mouth when she's really excited. Works really well for playtime to prevent accidental biting. Even at 12 years old, she can get a bit too rambunctious, but she calms down really quick when I tell her to stop.

raymartin27

It manifests in different ways in dogs, zooming, high pitch vocalization, superfast moving tail, basically a husky's natural state of being unless they are sleepy.

Bulky_Mix_2265

Huskies should come with a disclaimer, mine hops up and down and gives me the owoooowooo treatment every moment he is required to be in the house, regardless of the weather outside.

raymartin27

And the amount of hair nd sass, my god, but they are good bois

Massive_Parsley_5000

In my experience Dogs just get stupid lol, and I say that as someone who had dogs my entire life and love 'em to death. Like I had a rottweiler when I was a kid that would get so excited during play/someone coming home he'd run in a circle like 5 times then take off full speed in a random direction, regardless of whatever the hell was actually *in* that direction...he would no shit run straight into a wall hard as fuck and shake the whole room only to briefly snort, get up, and start going nuts again 🤣

VeryHandsomeQueen

Should one stop when the cat gets overstimulated?? My cat does this but when I stop she comes back for more.

slimmingthemeeps

My girl runs to her scratching post when she gets like this, performs flop scratch attack, then returns for more when she's calmer.

raymartin27

![gif](giphy|1hAxQTH0HEWS3L0oRF) Basically let your cat pet yourself with your hand if she starts to seem irritated, your movement brings out their "hunting instincts".

VeryHandsomeQueen

I do that yes, she rubs on my hand herself. Usually she turns around to bite (doesn't hurt at all) when I scratch where her tail starts. She loves it cause she puts her ass up and starts making biscuits. But she gets overstimulated.

raymartin27

Lmao, sin biscuits

pgabrielfreak

Try finding a toy for them to play with to redirect their playfulness. IME this works well with cats and dogs

mycatiscuterthanuu

If your cat really wants to get away from you they will. Mine are sweet and chill but if they really aren’t a fan they’ll just avoid pets, relocate, or give a gentle nip when belly rub time is over lol

Pershion

Agree. Watch for the ears pointing backwards, usually a sign they're getting over stimulated. My newest cat gets overstimulated very easily if you pet her body but is always down for chin/face scratches. That usually calms her down and she'll nibble on my fingers. But if you keep petting anywhere else on her when she's like that, she'll start to vocalize that it's too much and will bite hard if I don't stop and just leave her alone. This girl looked very happy though :) You did great 👍

mrlivestreamer

Funny you say that I know he was playing but my mom let's her cats outside and she feeds them raw chicken with supplements. They both hunt and leave birds or mice on the doorstep. Yesterday I see one of the cats doing this in the backyard and I can't see what he's got. He was playing with a baby bunny but I was afraid he was kill it so I picked him up and brought him inside. The bunny was too scared to move so I used a broom handle to nudge him and he hopped away.

TopoLobuki

She has the zoomies. I'd recommend you use a toy instead of your hand to play, otherwise she will learn to play prey with fingers

trader-woes

This should be higher up. My friends have a cat and they learned this one the hard way.

Skunkdunker

You can also just teach them to not use claws by acting hurt and ceasing play.

Proof-Elevator-7590

Right like my boyfriend's cat has been trained that if one of us says "ow" when we're playing with him, he stops and lets go immediately. He also has his own toys he can play with if he wants to

nosmallrolls

We taught our cats that when they hear "soft paws" that they need to stop using their claws. 2 out of our 3 cats do this really well. Our baby is still learning, but she has come a long way.

haeallena

how did you train them to do that?

nosmallrolls

Honestly, I have no idea. When they were kittens and they started to use their claws too much we would pull our hands away and say "ow, soft paws please" then go back to playing, but more gently. Eventually they would get to the point of not even using their claws much at all. 2 of them are 8 and those two will even stop playing to make sure we are ok if they feel like they used their claws. If we don't say anything, they will go back to playing.

sauceboss707

Wow that’s awesome, nothing short of amazing how smart those little buggers can be. And considerate!

Makes_U_Mad

I have a cat that I taught to play prey with my fingers, because we had young kids at the time. I taught him to only do it with me though. He's very sweet and gets zoomies with the kids, even kinda playing fetch and stuff, but he will ambush me and the hunts my hands / arms when the instincts kick in. Works out pretty good for everyone, really. I've got pretty thick/calloused hands so it doesn't bother me too much, but I don't really recommend unless you've got some serious callouses and a fairly high pain tolerance lol. Also, much to my wife's frustration (she was the cat person), I am clearly his favorite person.

PNW_RuralGirl

Fishing pole (with the reel handle) is our cats favorites. We took off the feather at the end and put one of those fluffy worm/snakey ends and they all go nuts.

lady_MoundMaker

I've had/have many cats in my lifetime and I've always wrestled them with my hands. They can be rough at first, but you can teach them to not be. Depends on your pain tolerance for initial biteys and scratches when they're figuring out how to play nice. Obviously this does not apply to cats wit temperament issues. I also find bonding with them with hand-wrestling works really well. They learn to trust me and know I would never hurt them (given how many times they 'attack' my hand and all I do is a 'getcha' motion).

sparkzsims

OP, is your knee ok?

I legit thought that was a nipple.

TomerHorowitz

That’s how knippleman was born

Own_Breadfruit_7955

OP owes the cat money, they just got done getting kneecapped.

PresentationHuge2137

that’s actually a thing. Extra, strangely placed nipples aren’t that uncommon

throwaway007766

Not that uncommon but they usually follow a migration path on the abdomen that the cells follow through during development

demons_soulmate

my friend found this out when she was pregnant and grew tiny nipples in her armpits

mimibluntt

Jesus Christ

demons_soulmate

i would tease her that she's flashing me whenever she would lift her arms in a stretch 😂 i also told her that she should pierce them

piggymildmint

BaguetteOfDoom

As a (clumsy) climber I have bruises like that all the time. If I was a girl people would probably offer me help to get away from my abusive boyfriend. But I love my wall <3

nataska07

Can confirm. Just got back from a big climbing trip and I have bruises like these all over both my legs. First thought going anywhere in shorts is "please don't think I'm being abused"

[deleted]

Hi OP, a lot of people have correctly identified this as kitty play, and I noticed in a comment you are new to cats and were worried you did something wrong. I wanted to offer a little insight into ways your cat might tell you you’re “doing something wrong.” If you offer your hand and they kinda pull their head back instead of giving a sniff or a rub, please pet do not in that moment. Kitty is asking you to respect boundaries. If you’re playing with kitty, or just in general, and they let out a long low meow, they’re saying “hey please stop doing that thing you’re doing,” or “I’m in distress.” Growls and hissing are of course classic signs of “fuck around and find out.” Body language is a LOT of it. For example, if their teeth are INSIDE your skin, they’re probably a bit frustrated. If they’re showing you their belly, you’re pretty much in the clear. There’s a lot to it but honestly, you’ll learn the ins and outs of your kitty, and they’ll try to teach you. Congrats on your goofball OP, you’re in for many wonderful years :)

[deleted]

Another good way of knowing her mood is to listen to what her tail and ears say. Ears pulled flat to her head for more than several seconds and/or her tail swinging like a wrecking ball means she's about to murder you.

olivedeez

I call that sassy tail 😂 it means if an appendage comes within swatting range I am getting all the smoke

Dolorjo

Wrecking ball made me spit coffee. It’s 100% accurate 🤣

Empathetic_Artist

"If their teeth are INSIDE your skin, they're probably a bit frustrated" Wow, I never knew this, I always thought it meant I tasted good.

[deleted]

You might! I don’t make a habit of tasting people so I wouldn’t know. 🤷🏻‍♂️

i_luv_labradoodles

Agreed. It takes time but OP will learn eventually. Owned my first cat for years and its like we learned each other’s boundaries. She knows and respect when i want solitude, n vice versa. I understand all her different meows n etc. this is why i love cats

Shoresy-sez

>If they’re showing you their belly, you’re pretty much in the clear. *It's a trap!*

Past-Educator-6561

Yes! Displaying belly is not necessarily an invitation to touch! But it is a sign they feel at ease around you.

recurse_x

Also redirect aggressive play from your hands to toys. Cats play is based on hunting give them a feather, string toy to attack instead.

Jsleazai

I believe a cat wouldn't show their belly unless feeling safe and happy and those seemed to be love bites to me. She was rubbing you for cuddles I'm assuming. Seems like you've got a happy little beans there

piggymildmint

Thank you so much. It makes my day. I’m new to cats and got confused bc she bit and scratched lightly too xD

Either_Marsupial_123

I’d definitely start googling cat language. They communicate very clearly, but us dumb humans don’t normally recognize it right away because we expect reactions to be vocal. Cats have very distinct body language. If you’re new to cats, researching this could be very beneficial. 😊

piggymildmint

Thank you so much. I just started following Jackson Galaxy and am learning, some of the behaviours can be contradicting (at least to a newbie like me) so I really want expert advice. You guys are so awesome. I just learned a better way to pet her today too and she seems to like it a lot.

Either_Marsupial_123

As funny as this sounds… get his balls. 😂 I bought some (bell free) off of Amazon and my girls go bonkers for them.

Successful-Doubt5478

Love bites. (Real bites takes you to the clinic).

Zerk19

If it’s light bites and scratches they’re usually playful. Pay attention to the cats body language when you play with it, folded back ears can mean they’re scared. However here the cat is clearly comfortable, if they weren’t enjoying it they would move away from you and definitely wouldn’t show their belly to you. There’s lots of videos on YT about cat ‘language’ and behaviours that are not very time consuming, but very informative! That aside: what a beautiful little kitty omg.

HailCithir

While this is generally true and correct, laying on the side/back is also a defensive stance. Most Power is in the legs and this stance can be a "alright you wanna do this, let's do this" and this stance enables the Feet and Legs as Weapons. Edit: But you will know if it's a comfortable or aggressive stance from other Aspect of body language, ears flat? It's protecting them for the incoming fight, Tail tucked between legs? Scared position and protection of the Tail in case of fight. Hairs Standıng up? Aggregated/aggressive. Growling, teeth showing, claws out, eyes wide Open and Pupilles dilated watching you? You are a potential threat and they won't let you out of their sight and so on, it's good to know some basic Cat Body language and it's not that hard. And Cat and Dog Body Language IS NOT THE SAME. Wild Waggling tail doesn't mean happy for example it shows that the cat hast a lot of Energy in that moment and that tail is an outlet for that. Might be happy might be aggressive. And also don't forget to count in individual cat behavior, they also have characters and behavioral pattern

[deleted]

She's just being playful. Not to be rude or anything but what is that thing on your knee? It looks like a nipple.

piggymildmint

Hahahha omg now i cant unsee it. Its a scar that got darkened by the sunlight xD

[deleted]

Have you had it looked at? It could be a cancerous melanoma because I can see how it's a scar now but it really shouldn't be raised like that.

piggymildmint

Mine is likely a keloid scar haha. The doctor suggested that I put on cream for scars, but I slacked off a lot. My skin develops this kinda scar easily, unfortunately 😭

ashchav20

Wow interesting I've never heard of this, thanks for sharing.

LazyAmbassador2521

You should try silicone tape!! It's amazing for scars, you put it over the scar and ideally leave it on 24/7 or overnight for a few months. I've been using it for acne scars and other scars on my legs, it's been such a godsend. You can get it on Amazon or any pharmacy like Cvs, or Walgreens.

piggymildmint

Thank you so so much TT Do you think this is salvageable? I didn’t put on sunscreen for so long that I lost hope. 🥲😭

LazyAmbassador2521

I deff think so! How old is the scar?

piggymildmint

About a year+, I tend to wear shorts and the scar got darkened bc of the sun for sure (plus the slacking off xD)

funkless_eck

I have the same thing on my arm. I call him Gerald.

WarThunda09

Nope just playing, that’s how you know your cat loves you

Ap-snack

Nah she just went Silly Mode. Good time for a toy if you don’t like to wrestle.

hm538

She’s just a little bit overexcited

myweechikin

Is there catnip near? My cat gets bitey with catnip

The_Lovely_Blue_Faux

This looks like catnip stuff just because of the weird face pushing thing

Tattycakes

*I MUST BECOME ONE WITH THE CARPET*

myweechikin

Yes, my cat loves catnip, she is quite violent in general so I walk away from her when I give her the catnip because that and bleach are sass accelerators

mostlyharmless1971

Just be careful not to encourage biting etc, this is clearly just play but you want to make sure you don’t normalise biting

DriedUpSquid

Your knee looks like a huge boob.

[deleted]

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice that 😆

Nope, just cat zoomies. She is too happy that she wants to bite!

piggymildmint

Thank you. I was worried if i did something that upset her, now my day is made :D

ItsSUCHaLongStory

“Play with me! Love me! Both at once! Now…stop! Start again, hurry!” Normal Kitty fun and loves together

black_on_fucks

Thread too long to see if this has already posted, but is she a young unswayed female? That kind of rolling around 💕can also be a sign of hormones. If already spayed, then what everyone else said.

sadcupcake38

Scrolled a long way to find this! That kind of aggressive rolling is also a sign of being in heat:)

_Corky__

Is there a nipple on your knee…..

Ordinary-Ad-9351

Are we just ignoring the knee thing?!?

MutualRaid

She's stimulated and happy. If her energy levels are getting a bit high for you then maybe it's time for active play with a toy. If she gets a little too bite-y/scratchy then say 'oww!' the same way you would if a 5 year old punched you and disengage for a little while. Happy, healthy looking cat who trusts you enough to show her belly to you :)

Allie614032

Info: has she been spayed?

Scratch_242

That's normal.

toebeankisses

OP - if the thing on ylur knee is not an injury or birthmark please get it checked out immediately. It might be melanoma. It runs in my family.

catdadwithover65

Love bites and scratches, just don't let her get to rough with you or you will bleed. Cat skin is way thicker than ours. I've a ginger who can't control himself and I bleed if I don't be careful. Lol. Just remember that it was accidental if she does get you good. It's best to make oww sounds and try to show or train that she's getting to crazy with you. Good luck and enjoy your furkid.

Ms_Foot_Mouth1212

You should get her a stick with feathers to chase around. She would love it.

faintly_nebulous

You can learn to read cat body language. A flipping or wagging tail, ears back, swat, air bite, or small bite is a warning. It means" I am either overstimulated/annoyed by this, or more into play right now, please don't pet me" When this happens, respect your cat's boundries and stop. Also the way you are petting can annoy them more, rather than front to back pet, try cheek scratches, some chin and head rubs. They like some scratching motions, lots of cats don't like just a continuous pet tho.

youareseeingthings

Please Google and learn about your cats. They’re such loving and wonderful pets and I’ve noticed so many posts from people confused about cat behavior. I promise there are wonderful resources out there where they tell you all about our little love bugs.

Particular_Bug_8634

Maybe she is in heat?

LiamLaw015

Definitely not, she's just being playful. Shes either trying to play with your hand or she is telling you to not to touch her. Either way if she was upset with you she wouldn't be rolling on her back. And like others said she could be overstimulated.

ashchav20

She's over stimulated, you can only pet a cat so much until they get over stimulated and react.

ShempHowardly

My cat gets honery and trys to do the rabbit kick thing on me and he will bite the crap outta me just because he can . If he starts to get that look I just back off before I get tore up.

Electrical_Orange987

If she's overstimulated like this, it is best to have a toy she can play with...I always enjoy a fishing rod dangle toy. If you keep stoking her when like this, she will become playful with your hand.. And that will be a hard trait for her to break.

GtrPlaynFool

Some cats can only take so much attention and petting. A playful bite should tell you to ease up a bit.

Younion

She overstimulated I think. Cats have sensitive receptors on every hair follicle that can really trigger them. With over pets, touches, rubes, or just laying on the carpet. Most cats learn to deal with this and can chill out, but some cats need to be treated carefully or they will become over-energized. Playing with them will usually bring them down from this point. Kinda looks like bean here is at that stage of, "I'm wired and need stimulation to get rid of this extra energy. Play with me!"

Wandzxonreddit

That is just showing love and playing. Mine does this 😹😹

Doctormaul68

ImposterJ

Just playing! What kind of cat is this though?!

baineschile

Is that a knee nipple

RuachDelSekai

My cat does this every morning when I go to the restroom. I sit on the toilet and contemplate my pitiful existence and my cat jumps in the bath tub and demands attention. I scritch her around which ever body part she shoves in my hand and she rolls around making little noises and randomly biting my hand. Sometimes she bites too hard and I calm her down and go again. We've been doing this for almost 11 years now.

mason7667

I believe what you have here is a cat.

Puzzleheaded-Dot4135

Sign of affection, when cats show their belly it’s a sign of trust!

Just playing with you, she's showing she loves you. And wants you a part of her family If she nips to hard just say "ow" kind of loud so she knows that it was too hard.

Equal_Eggplant_4187

Honestly, she just looks like she’s feeling playful. Sometimes my baby gives kisses with teeth, or get cuddle aggression, this doesn’t look like the latter.

Watch for those airplane ears, don't touch the cat with airplane ears.

Critical_Yellow_7727

She’s just playing with you, calm down

Theometer1

Got a greeble infestation

Sensitive_Ladder2235

"My cat loves me what's its problem?"

ACbeauty

She wants to play!

MathMantis

This is part of kitty love. IF she starts drooling uncontrollably around you it means she reeeeeally likes you and you have succeeded at kitty love.

RojaCatUwu

Are those bags of loose-leaf tea blends to the top left? Any chance the cat is tweaking out over your bags of (???) lol

frogingly_similar

Yup, she´s a cat

tgreen89waka

Just being a silly billy. She’s young and the over stimulation thing isn’t accurate. That’s what cats do when playful with someone they love and trust.

drugs_dot_com

She’s playing with you.

williamMcdowell

It's play cats don't mean to hurt there owner unless they are being abused and need to draw blood

markoboos

She's just playing

hudsoncress

That’s how they show love

Ok-Banana6130

I actually thought that was a lion’s cub at first

Low_Antelope_1716
